Warren Jeffs Is this what this sick fizzuck, Warren Jeffs , deserves?? Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs has been hospitalized after not eating or drinking enough since his recent conviction on child sexual assault charges, a prison official said Monday. ABC News is reporting that Jeffs is in a coma, according to a source close to him. However, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice would not confirm the report. “I’ve seen that report but we have not received that information or released it,” said Michelle Lyons, spokesman for the department. The 55-year-old Jeffs, serving a 130-year sentence for sexually assaulting two underage girls, had been refusing to eat properly and is being treated for weakness and related conditions, said Jason Clark, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman. Jeffs was reportedly fasting, but not on a hunger strike, Clark said. According to ABC News, Jeffs became so weak that doctors induced a coma. “Warren Jeffs was transported last night to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler,” Clark said Monday. “He is listed in critical but stable condition. Jeffs had not been eating and drinking as much as we would like. “He had been eating and taking fluids in, but because he became dehydrated, his vital signs began showing problems.” Jeffs is the self-named “prophet” of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints, a polygamist Mormon breakaway sect that has a ranch in west Texas. Earlier this week, Casey Anthony temporarily avoided a hearing regarding the terms of her probation stemming from a Florida check fraud conviction. Judge Belvin Perry said he’d need more time to consider the facts before ruling on whether Casey must return home to serve probation in that case. “I’ll be the first to admit this is not a very clear cut issue … you’ve given me a lot to think about,” Perry said, calling it “a legal maze” and “a mess”. Anthony who was acquitted last month in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, is believed to be in Ohio and didn’t attend the hearing. Her attorneys argue that she should not be required to return because of safety concerns, and because she served the probation behind bars. It’s as confusing as it sounds, if not more so. On January 25, 2010, Anthony was given probation by Judge Stan Strickland after she’d pleaded guilty to charges she stole checks from a friend. The confusion set in as Florida’s Department of Corrections thought Anthony could serve the probation while in custody awaiting her murder trial. Strickland said last week he wanted Anthony to serve the probation after the sentence, not during. Last week, Perry said he’d wanted the same. However, Department of Corrections probation supervisor Susan Finigan testified that proper procedures were practiced in Anthony’s case. Finigan added that while it’s not the usual arrangement to have someone in custody serving their probation, “It does happen on occasion.” The Department of Corrections therefore deemed that Anthony’s probation was concluded on January 24, long before her murder acquittal . Anthony’s legal team claimed their client’s life would be in grave danger if the state forces her to serve a year’s probation for check fraud. “This thing is over and done,” her Florida-based lawyer, Jose Baez, said. “And for some reason things seem to keep coming up again.” Judge Perry did not say when he would announce his ruling.
UPDATE: Health insurance companies will now be required to provide women free birth control, in keeping with the new Obama administration guidelines. The new guidelines, which the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) labeled “historic,” will require new health insurance plans to include women’s preventive services including FDA approved contraceptives, breast feeding support, and well-women visits — all without charging a co-payment, co-insurance or a deductible — beginning August 1, 2012. Ladies, keep in mind you still have to protect yourself against sexually transmitted diseases. Michelle Obama: First Female Public Figure To Appear On Better Homes & Garden Another birth control revolution may be on the horizon. Fifty years after the pill was introduced, free contraception for women in the U.S., may be in effect thanks to the new health care law by the Obama administration. According to the LA Times , the Obama administration, is recommending that all U.S.-approved birth control methods — including the “morning after pill,” taken shortly after intercourse to forestall pregnancy — be added to the federal government’s list of preventive health services. The IOM noted that women with unplanned pregnancies were more likely to put off or neglect prenatal care and to smoke, drink or experience depression. The recommendation to add birth control is a big gain for organizations like the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Planned Parenthood, but is likely to stoke opposition from conservative and religious groups. Other services recommended by IOM include screening for gestational diabetes, testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) in women over 30, counseling for HIV and sexually transmitted infections, lactation counseling, screening for domestic violence and yearly wellness visits. This would be a groundbreaking moment for women in the U.S. President Meets Circle Of Protection To Talk About Poverty
