Sister Wives: Meri Brown Breaks Down Over Her Gay Daughter

Just in case you missed it, Sister Wives gave us a pretty juicy story last week. Was it juicier than Meri Brown and her catfish ? Maybe not. But still, it was mighty scandalous for the fundamentalist Mormon family: Mariah Brown, the only child of Meri and Kody, announced to her parents that she's gay . They took it well, considering that their church has some seriously sinister views on homosexuality, though the Browns have always disagreed with their church on the matter. Meri, Kody, and the rest of the sister wives all readily accepted Mariah, and they offered her so much support and love. It was wonderful to see, but judging by this sneak peek from the upcoming episode, it may not have been entirely genuine. In this clip, Meri talks to Robyn and Kody about Mariah's announcement, and she's obviously taking it pretty hard. She explains that she'd always envisioned Mariah bringing home a man, getting married to him and having kids, and since she was never able to have any children after Mariah, her future husband would have been like a son to her. Robyn so sweetly — like, so sweetly it might make you tear up — points out that all that can still happen, that Mariah can still get married and have children. But Meri is struggling. And she is struggling hard. Check out the sad but oddly touching clip below:

Escaping Polygamy: Reading Books Is Sinful! So Is Country Music!

Your heart breaks for the people featured on A&E's Escaping Polygamy .  One woman, Lizzy hasn't seen her daughter in three years because the young girl is pure and Lizzy is not. That is, according to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Us Weekly featured a clip from the August 14th episode , in which Lizzy explained that her daughter, Julie was selected to be part of the United Order, a special group made up of only the church's purest members. Because of this, Lizzy is prohibited from seeing Julie, who is now 13. “My oldest daughter, Julie, is the good girl — she's very beautiful, inside and out,” Lizzy said quietly during an interview. “She's always been my right-hand girl — she's a hard worker, she's sweet,” Lizzy continued as photos of her beautiful daughter flashed across the screen. “Of course, I haven't seen her for three years, so she's perfect.” What's that, now? It turns out that Lizzy has a whole list of sins for which she must repent, so until she is perfect, she is not allowed to see Julie. Lizzy is not part of the United Order “because I'm not perfect — there's things in my life that I need to repent of.” Like…? “Like, I have a hard time waking up by 5 a.m., but I'm working on it.” Oh girl. Lizzy talked about losing her mother at 13, something that still stings to this day, and how she knows that Julie needs her very badly. But, Lizzy admits, she has a lot of work to do in order to become perfect.  “My mother used to read a lot, and I inherited that weakness,” Lizzy admitted. “Sometimes, I'll find a novel, read it — I've been trying to overcome that.” 🙁 “And my boy sometimes listens to country music,” she added. Watch Escaping Polygamy every Sunday at 10 p.m. on A&E.

Kody Brown: Accused of FAKING Sister Wives Drama For Ratings!

Krysten Decker, the aunt of Sister Wives star Christine Brown, has been speaking to the press all week, and it seems Kody Brown and company are not happy about it. Yesterday, Decker claimed that  Christine Brown is “miserable”  in her polygamous lifestyle and is in no way in love with Kody. Now, in an interview that could be even more damaging to the family and its reputation, Decker has claimed that the show is a sham. That’s right. According to her, most if not all of the drama fans of the show have enjoyed for the past six seasons is almost entirely fake. The series’ central storylines often focus on the dubious legality of their lifestyle and their efforts to stay one step ahead of the authorities. Speaking with Radar Online, Decker says that’s all nonsense , and the Browns have never been forced to move in order to escape the law. “They talked about moving to Las Vegas [to escape Utah’s anti-polygamy laws] long before they did,” she claims. “That was their plan and they used the State [of Utah supposedly, legally] coming after them for ratings.” “That’s my strong opinion.” Decker says she’s been ostracized by Christine Brown and the rest of her Church of Latter-Day Saints community due to her controversial decision to leave her husband and abandon the fundamentalist lifestyle. She did so because she feels it subjugates and oppresses women. “My leaving definitely had to do with [my husband’s behavior], but it was all the harms I saw around me,” she says. “I left polygamy before I left my husband.” Decker says her appearance on the show was edited to turn her into a sort of antagonist for the famous TLC family. As a result, she wishes she had never become involved with Kody and his decision to take part in a reality series: “I really regret being on the show…[After] I was devastated, I cried,” she lamented to the celebrity news website. “Christine tried to make me out to be a mean person who didn’t believe in choice, either traditional or religious.” “You can’t actually have a choice if you live under polygamy. If you chose not to do it, there is a penalty.” Decker says Christine has cut off all her contact with her, and she often wonders if she’ll ever again have a chance to speak with her niece. Nasty Polygamist Leader Who Was Chopping Down And Marrying Multiple Teenage Girls In Coma, Will Probably Kick The Bucket Soon

Warren Jeffs Is this what this sick fizzuck, Warren Jeffs , deserves?? Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs has been hospitalized after not eating or drinking enough since his recent conviction on child sexual assault charges, a prison official said Monday. ABC News is reporting that Jeffs is in a coma, according to a source close to him. However, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice would not confirm the report. “I’ve seen that report but we have not received that information or released it,” said Michelle Lyons, spokesman for the department. The 55-year-old Jeffs, serving a 130-year sentence for sexually assaulting two underage girls, had been refusing to eat properly and is being treated for weakness and related conditions, said Jason Clark, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman. Jeffs was reportedly fasting, but not on a hunger strike, Clark said. According to ABC News, Jeffs became so weak that doctors induced a coma. “Warren Jeffs was transported last night to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler,” Clark said Monday. “He is listed in critical but stable condition. Jeffs had not been eating and drinking as much as we would like. “He had been eating and taking fluids in, but because he became dehydrated, his vital signs began showing problems.” Jeffs is the self-named “prophet” of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints, a polygamist Mormon breakaway sect that has a ranch in west Texas. Westboro Church Protests Head To Supreme Court

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court is getting involved in the legal fight over the anti-gay protesters who show up at military funerals with inflammatory messages like “Thank God for dead soldiers.” The court agreed Monday to consider whether the protesters' message, no matter how provocative and upsetting, is protected by the First Amendment. Members of a Kansas-based church have picketed military funerals to spread their belief that U.S. deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq are punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality. The justices will hear an appeal from the father of a Marine killed in Iraq to reinstate a $5 million verdict against the protesters, after they picketed outside his son's funeral in Maryland. A jury in Baltimore awarded Albert Snyder damages for emotional distress and invasion of privacy, but a federal appeals court threw out the verdict. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the signs contained “imaginative and hyperbolic rhetoric” protected by the First Amendment. The funeral for Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder in Westminster, Md., was among many that have been picketed by members of the fundamentalist Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas. Westboro pastor Fred Phelps and other members have used the funeral protests to spread their belief that U.S. deaths in the Iraq war are punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality. One of the signs at Snyder's funeral combined the U.S. Marine Corps motto with a slur against gay men. Other signs carred by members of the Topeka, Kan.-based church said, “America is Doomed,” “God Hates the USA/Thank God for 9/11,” “Priests Rape Boys” and “Thank God for IEDs,” a reference to the roadside bombs that have killed many U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The case will be argued in the fall. The case is Snyder v. Phelps, 09-751. added by: emarston

In Praise of Television’s Bad Mothers

While we weren’t loving last night’s uneven season finale of Weeds , we were loving Nancy Botwin’s parenting skills—or lack thereof. Who wants to be raised by a boring stroller-pusher when you can have someone to bring the crazy? Bad mothers are like unhappy families, no two are alike, but they are all a whole lot of fun to watch
