The ex-Gov’s got a new gig! Scandal-scorched ex-Gov. David Paterson will get to turn the spotlight on others with his own afternoon drivetime radio show on WOR-AM, the Daily News has learned. “The David Paterson Show” will be announced formally Thursday at a Manhattan news conference, sources close to Paterson said. The engaging former governor has been filling in regularly for WOR morning host John Gambling since leaving office last year. An avid Mets fan, Paterson has also guest-hosted programs on WFAN sports radio. A Paterson spokesman could not be reached for comment, while WOR had no comment. The affable Paterson had a scandal-plagued tenure as New York’s first black governor and first blind governor, enduring ethical and legal investigations after taking over abruptly for the hooker-happy Eliot Spitzer. Slow starts don’t necessarily make for last place finishes. Six days and a slow start later, Usain Bolt finally won gold at the world championships, running the fourth-fastest 200 meters in history to back up his showmanship with a stunning performance. After he was disqualified for a false start the 100 final last Sunday, Bolt was slowest out of the blocks before driving through the bend and powering to the line in 19.40 seconds, just .21 seconds of the world record he set to win his first world title two years ago. Knowing he had something to prove, there was no braggadocio during the race. Instead, he gritted his teeth in utter effort over the last 20 meters before dipping across the line for the fastest time in two years. “I am still the best,” Bolt told an elated crowd of about 45,000 at Daegu Stadium before starting a barefoot dance to a deafening beat. “It was beautiful.” Walter Dix of the United States won his second sprint silver in 19.70 and Christophe Lemaitre earned bronze with a French record of 19.80. Chris Brown thought his $22,000 diamond encrusted Rolex was gone forever, when he accidentally tossed it into the crowd at the MTV VMAs but lucky for him, he was wrong. Brown’s watch, a gold Rolex with a white oyster face and diamond-encrusted bezel came loose at the beginning of his performance, he took it off and tried to toss it to a safe place. But Brown missed his target and the watch ended up in the crowd. After the performance, Brown’s bodyguard went into the audience and asked if anyone had found the watch, not expecting anyone to come forward. To his surprise, the watch was in the possession of an honest person, who returned it Brown. A rep for Brown confirms, “Although Chris did not get to meet the fan, he is very appreciative of the fan’s actions.” This is one stupid muthaf@#$a very forthright individual. Some of y’all @$$es would have been burnin’ rubber down to the pawn shop! Surprise, surprise a Republican has proven to be a hypocrite… Republicans who support gay rights have seen their brief hopes for Rick Perry’s candidacy dashed as old quotes surface, new pledges are signed and news of his forthcoming campaign events and associations emerges. The Texas governor and leading presidential candidate briefly gave hope to the increasingly influential group of Republican LGBT advocates when he expressed his support for the rights of states to pass their own legislation governing marriage. Since then, however, he has said he would back a constitutional amendment banning the practice, while quotes from an old book surfaced in which he compared homosexuality to alcoholism. On Friday, meanwhile, Perry signed the National Organization for Marriage’s pledge that would, among other things, commit him to support sending a federal marriage amendment to states upon becoming president. But the icing on the cake could come this weekend, when Perry is set to mingle with one of the most virulently anti-gay activists and prominent social conservative donors in his home state. The event, officially labeled a “call to action,” will feature a retreat at a Texas Hill Country ranch. Among the event’s hosts will be David Barton, an evangelical leader and founder of the organization WallBuilders. Barton is most commonly known for holding revisionist historical views, specifically regarding the history of civil rights. But his incendiary stance on LGBT issues has made him an object of intense concern for both progressives who monitor right-wing figures and for Republicans who support gay rights. Most recently, when the state of New York legalized same-sex marriage, Barton argued that anti-gay groups should proverbially “scalp” the four Republican state senators who had backed the bill. He added some choice words for Ken Mehlman, the former RNC Chairman turned LGBT activist, as well. Perry’s fellow Republican comrades are less than pleased with his decision to say the least. “It is unfortunate Governor Perry decided to turn to a big government, anti-conservative position by signing the National Organization for Marriage’s pledge,” said R. Clarke Cooper, Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans. “This pledge is out of step with America and the general electorate the GOP needs to win the White House.” Translation: “This mickiefickie is gonna F up our chances of winning this election by pissing off all the voting fa-, er…homosexuals.” SMH Source
