For Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian And More Celebs, ‘Digital Death’ Continues

Artists haven’t reached $1 million mark to resurrect their online profiles. By Gil Kaufman Alicia Keys’ coffin image symbolizing her digital death Photo: Markus Klinko/ Indrani/ GK Reid The original plan was for artists such as Usher, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson and Ryan Seacrest to stage their “digital deaths” until $1 million was raised for Alicia Keys’ BuyLife.org charity effort. The campaign kicked off in coordination with Wednesday’s World AIDS Day and included the social-media-savvy stars staging a Digital Life Sacrifice by signing off their Facebook, Twitter and other online communication sites until the fund-raising goal was reached. According to a ticker on the BuyLife.org site, as of Friday (December 3) at noon, more than $183,493 had been raised in the effort to buy back the stars’ online presence. Kardashian was among the participants who posed for posters bringing attention to the effort. In hers, she lies in a casket while wearing a cocktail dress and clutching her cell phone. Celebrities such as mega-tweeter Seacrest agreed to sign off all social networks on Tuesday, and as of Friday, he was staying true to his pledge. The top tweet on Seacrest’s site read, “Ryan Seacrest would love to chat but he’s dead. Buy back his life & fight HIV/AIDS.” A spokesperson for the campaign could not be reached at press time to give an update on what the plan is should the $1 million goal not be reached. With the target figure still on the distant horizon, it appeared that it could take some time to rack up the $1 million and it’s unclear how long the stars — many of whom use social media daily to communicate with fans and break news — are committed to staying digitally deceased. But even before he digitally died, Seacrest was already sweating his ability to unplug. “One hour until I sign off Twitter,” he wrote Tuesday night. “I’m not gonna like not being connected with u guys! Argh … how do I manage Twitter withdrawals??” At press time, Gaga’s Twitter page was also stalled out with multiple pleas posted Wednesday to donate to the charity. The beneficiary of the campaign, Keys’ Keep a Child Alive, helps provide money for medical care and support services for children and families impacted by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India. Kim Kardashian Plays Dead for Good Cause

Kim Kardashian is finally putting her inexplicable popularity to good use. The large-breasted sex tape star is one of a number of big names participating in the Digital Life Sacrifice event , a charitable effort spearheaded by Alicia Keys that asks celebrities to stay off all social networking sites until $1 million is raised in honor of World AIDS Day on December 1. In a poster to promote the cause, Kim does the same thing that made her famous in the first place: lie down in front of a camera with her eyes closed… ” Kim Kardashian Is Dead,” reads this ad, detailing how she has sacrificed her digital life “to give real life to millions of others affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. Visit BuyLife.org or text ‘KIM’ to ‘90999’ to buy her life now.” We’re all for any celebrity using his/her fame to raise funds. But wouldn’t this be a more effective campaign if the population could donate money to keep Kim off Twitter and Facebook?

‘Glee’ Guest Star Darren Criss Finally Meets Katy Perry

‘She’s very sweet,’ Criss said of ‘Teenage Dream’ songstress By Amy Wilkinson, additional reporting by James Montgomery Darren Criss Photo: MTV News Ever since “Glee” guest star Darren Criss warbled Katy Perry’s track “Teenage Dream” on the series’ Nov. 9 episode “Never Been Kissed,” he and Perry have been directing enthusiastic accolades at one another through the press. The pair finally had the first in-person meeting of their “mutual admiration society” at Sunday’s American Music Awards, and Criss left singing Perry’s praises once again. “[I met Perry] very, very quickly,” Criss told MTV News while walking the red carpet at Rolling Stone ‘s post-AMA party. “It was cool. She’s very sweet.” Following Criss’ debut on the Fox musical series earlier this month, Perry shared her compliments via Twitter, writing, “Oh…My…Gosh… this just brought a sweet tear to my eye! Teenage Dream on GLEE makes my heart go WEEEEE!” She later told “Access Hollywood” , “He’s amazing! I love when any of my songs are remixed or interpreted differently. I just love that. I really welcome a creative mind to anything.” Criss was flattered by Perry’s praise, telling MTV News last week the feelings were indeed mutual. “Katy makes my heart ‘go weeeee,’ ” he said. Criss has been quick to credit Perry and the track’s other writers and producers — Dr. Luke, Ben Levin, Bonnie McKee and Max Martin — with the single’s success (it reached #1 on the digital downloads chart last week, a first for a “Glee” single). “I’m forever in [Katy’s] debt, basically,” Criss said. “She’s been very supportive about the whole thing. She’s a cool chick, and I’m a big fan.” What did you think of Criss’ performance of “Teenage Dream” on “Glee?” Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Katy Perry

Christine O’Donnell: SNL’s first target of the season –> Bullseye

Click here to see Video http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/26/christine-odonnell-snl_n_739503.html Last night on the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” the cold opening mocked none other than Republican senate nominee Christine O'Donnell. Her anti-masturbation stance, former fascination with witchcraft, and conspiracy theory about mice with human brains provided more than enough material for 'SNL' to work with. ——————————————————————————— In case you missed it , here is a VERY FUNNY portrayal of O'Donnell made right here on current without staff writers & proffesional comedians. http://current.com/entertainment/comedy/92685813_how-christine-odonnell-decided-… added by: Stoneyroad

Congressman Compares Florida Christians To Taliban

Alan Grayson, the Democratic firebrand from Florida's 8th District, made himself a nationwide household name — and angered conservatives — last year with his declaration that the Republican plan for health care amounts to hoping sick people “die quickly.” Now his latest move could prove equally infuriating to his political opponents. In a new election campaign ad, Grayson compares Florida's Christian politicians to the Islamist fundamentalists of the Middle East. “Religious fanatics are trying to take away our freedom in Afghanistan, in Iraq and right here in central Florida,” declares a female voice-over. The ad focuses on Daniel Webster, Grayson's Republican opponent in this year's mid-term election and a former state legislator. “Daniel Webster wants to impose his radical fundamentalism on us,” the ad asserts. “Webster tried to deny battered women medical care and the right to divorce their abusers. He wants to force raped women to bear the child. Taliban Dan Webster. Hands off our bodies, and our laws.” http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/09/grayson-ad-taliban-dan/ added by: ibrake4rappers13

Pentagon Destroys Thousands of Copies of Army Officer’s Memoirs

Washington (CNN) — The Department of Defense recently purchased and destroyed thousands of copies of an Army Reserve officer's memoir in an effort to safeguard state secrets, a spokeswoman said Saturday. “DoD decided to purchase copies of the first printing because they contained information which could cause damage to national security,” Pentagon spokeswoman Lt. Col. April Cunningham said. In a statement to CNN, Cunningham said defense officials observed the September 20 destruction of about 9,500 copies of Army Reserve Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer's new memoir “Operation Dark Heart.” Shaffer says he was notified Friday about the Pentagon's purchase. “The whole premise smacks of retaliation,” Shaffer told CNN on Saturday. “Someone buying 10,000 books to suppress a story in this digital age is ludicrous.” Shaffer's publisher, St. Martin's Press, released a second printing of the book that it said had incorporated some changes the government had sought “while redacting other text he (Shaffer) was told was classified.” From single words and names to entire paragraphs, blacked out lines appear throughout the book's 299 pages. more at link… Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer was a member of “Able Danger” a group on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden years before 9/11. Problem is, they found him numerous times and were told to stand down. Unlike Pat Tillman, they weren't able to kill him before blowing the whistle, just censoring his book. Definitely listen to some interviews of his; I'll post one in the comments below. added by: rodstradamus
