Behind the Scenes with the Springbreakers of the Day

Vice met up with Harmony Korine, because Vice is New York cool…especially in the time when Harmony Korine was coming up in New York and really at his peak… so it is only fitting that they would sit down with him and go through some of his behind the scenes shit….cuz they have access and they are all friends…doing cool shit together…..and it’s a pretty interesting take from the perspective of the Director…talking about how Selena Gomez doesn’t like getting hump danced up against….and other shit you can watch on mute if you’re more interested in the bikini footage….the lots of bikini footage, and as a fan of Harmony Korine and his earlier smut…I can assume this will be the good or at least his biggest mainstream success that I will see….

What Is Wrong With This Picture: Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine Cover Depicts Blacks & Latinos As Big-Lipped, Money Hungry Hoodrats

Bloomberg Businessweek Under Fire For Depiction Of Minorities Bloomberg Businessweek magazine has just taken things a little too far with their caricature depictions of minorities on the cover of their latest issue. In addition to the insulting illustration of minorities on the cover, even more shady is the fact that they used only blacks and Latinos as the face of a story on sub-prime borrowing and predatory lending, which clearly implies that minorities were primarily responsible for taking out loans that they could not afford to pay off……which eventually began the 2007 housing crisis that sparked the recent U.S. recession. via NBC News Bloomberg Businessweek has sparked a torrent of criticism after its cover depicted exaggerated cartoon versions of Latinos and blacks greedily grabbing for money for a story about a housing rebound across the country. “Oh wow, oh wow, that is very offensive,” said Aracely Panemeno, the director of Latino affairs for the Center for Responsible Lending, as she first opened up a photo of the cover on her computer. “It is highly offensive and inaccurate with an intent to promote and perpetuate the myth that communities of color were undeserving of the credit and housing they received and are to blame for the housing crisis, when in reality the opposite is true. They were targeted with predatory loans.” Representatvies for the magazine later apologized for the over, but the damage is obviously already done. Bloomberg Businessweek tells NBC Latino it regrets the cover, dated February 25. “Our cover illustration last week got strong reactions, which we regret,” said editor, Josh Tyrangiel in a statement. “Our intention was not to incite or offend. If we had to do it over again we’d do it differently.” SMH. You would think publications like this one would know better……but of course, they don’t.

Gunplay: Off the Hook in Armed Robbery Case

Rapper Gunplay is off the hook for robbing his accountant at gunpoint – despite video showing the whole damn thing – after the victim refused to cooperate. Makes you think. Gunplay Robbery: Rapper Pulls Gun The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office told TMZ earlier : “Video alone is not enough to convict an individual of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt.” “Although the armed robbery is captured on , the victim, Turron Woodside, is uncooperative of the prosecution of this defendant Richard Morales [Gunplay].” Officials needed Woodside to authenticate the surveillance video to use it as evidence against Gunplay, who was accused of pulling a gun on him. He’s accused of stealing a cell phone and gold chain during the incident last fall; Gunplay was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. The State Attorney’s Office says the judge subpoenaed Woodside to appear in the case but prosecutors were unable to find him in order to serve him. Officials say Woodside’s family and co-workers have told the court “he’s out of town and/or coping with a family death” along with other excuses. The judge made it clear … without Woodside’s testimony, prosecutors couldn’t make their case, and they were forced to drop charges against Gunplay. Now that it’s over in any case, Gunplay says he’s gonna roll a fat ass J … oh, and spend time with his “loved ones.” He tells the celeb gossip site: “Today I am grateful and blessed that the case was dismissed,” he says. “I plan on picking up where I left off with my music and making hits with my upcoming debut album … The first thing I am going to do today is smoke a joint.” “Relax, play video games, and just be with my loved ones.” God speed, Gunplay. God speed.

Kim Kardashian to Cosmo: No Rush to Marry!

Kim Kardashian admits in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan: she was once a hypocrite. Because she claimed to be proud of her curves and then sold out for an unsafe dietary supplement ? No. Because she admits that she once judged Kourtney Kardashian for getting knocked up without being married. “I was like, ‘You’re not married! How could you do this?’ I was really firm and strict,” Kim said of her initial reaction to her sister’s pregnancy. “But she was like, ‘Marriage isn’t what I want.’ And later, I realized she had a better family life than I did.” So does this mean Kim and Kanye West won’t be exchanging vows any time soon? Marriage is “something I know that we both want in our future,” Kardashian said. “But I don’t have this sense of urgency about it.” Yet don’t get Kim wrong. She insists that Kanye is the long-term man for her: “I have this best friend who understands me and helps me through all my tough experiences, and vice versa, you know? It just feels like this is it for me.” So she has the man. But is she ready for the child? “I’ve always said that I wanted kids, but I don’t think I ever would have been ready until now. Sometimes you’re just not ready. A person could have it all, and you’re not ready for it all. But this is where I probably always should have been.” She’ll find out for certain in July.

Ben Affleck Oscar Speech: Emotional, Moving, Slightly Uncomfortable

Ben Affleck’s acceptance speech after winning Best Picture for Argo at the 2013 Academy Awards Sunday night was an awesomely emotional mess. The actor, whose movie won top honors despite his personal snub in the Best Director category, was clearly choked up and caught up in the moment. Ben Affleck Oscars Speech Affleck, 40, recalled how he was “just a kid” when he last triumphed for Good Will Hunting , and how he’d been “knocked down” so many times since. The only important thing, he said through tears, is that “you gotta get up.” Then it got slightly awkward with his nod to spouse Jennifer Garner. “I want to thank my wife … for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases,” he said, stumbling over words as he addressed the mother of his three children. As if he were calling out his own marital problems, he added, “It’s good … it IS work, but it’s the best kind of work … and there’s no one I’d rather work with.” It was wonderful as a raw and honest moment, that’s for sure. Still, one wonders how the comment was received back at home at the end of the night. Was Jen surprised? Moved? Pissed? We will likely never know. Regardless, congratulations to Ben and his whole family!

Elsewhere In The World: Black Teens In South Africa Opting To Get Plastic Surgery To Create “Smaller Breasts And Smaller Butts”

While folks are having strange addictions to black market silicone butt injections in America , folks in South Africa are doing the complete opposite… According to IOL News: When it comes to plastic surgery it appears that for young black South Africans, less is more. Nip-and-tuck procedures, breast reductions and even lip reductions are on the increase among young, affluent black South Africans. Dr Leon Dumas said the procedures being done on young black people were contrary to the perceptions about what patients wanted. “Normally there is a perception that everyone wants breast implants, but what we are seeing with our young, black patients is that reduction is the major trend. It’s no longer seen as acceptable to have big breasts or a big body.” Dumas said a lot of black people now had access to a disposable income and no longer saw cosmetic surgery as taboo. “As young black people become more affluent, they are more open-minded about plastic surgery. And what we are noticing is that the surgeries are mostly cosmetic and voluntary. So people do them not because their health depends on them, but because they often see them as a lifestyle enhancement.” According to independent research carried out by the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa, the local market is in line with global trends because over the past 10 years it has seen an increase of 780 percent in non-invasive procedures such as botox injections and a 128 percent increase in breast procedures. Association spokesman Dr Chris Snijman said a growing number of people had been able to have cosmetic surgery because of cheap pricing. “Cosmetic surgery in South Africa is among the most affordable in the world,” he said. According to First Health Insurance (FHI, a company that finances plastic surgery), it received applications to the value of R100 million last year alone. Jason Sive, the director of surgical finance at FHI, said that now, more than ever, South Africans who could not finance their procedures were willing to put up valuable items as collateral for surgery-related loans. “A lot of the people we deal with are people who are not able to afford the cost of procedures, or have only a fraction of the money to cover the cost. “Now they are willing to invest more in getting it done and are putting up the necessary collateral and going through credit checks to get these loans. “It’s important when people take out loans for cosmetic surgery that they take it for a long-term surgery, not for something they may want to change even before they have repaid the costs. We have had lots of people who do that and it’s not worth it.” Due to the affordability of plastic surgery in South Africa, an increasing number of international tourists have been coming to South Africa for cosmetic procedures. Hundreds of these so-called medical tourists flock to South Africa every year and often do so without fully disclosing the medical reasons for their visits. Interesting….

Hilton Botha, Oscar Pistorius Case Detective, Charged With Attempted Murder

The Oscar Pistorius case took a strange twist after it was revealed that Hilton Botha, the lead investigator, was charged with seven counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors said they didn’t know Botha faces seven charges of attempted murder in connection with the October 2011 shooting of a minibus in South Africa. Hilton Botha, a 24-year police veteran with 16 years as a detective, is slated to appear in court this May along with two other police officers in the incident. The bus shooting charges were initially dropped in the wake of the incident, but officials said the Director of Public Prosecutions had reinstated the charges. The country’s National Prosecuting Authority said the detective should be taken off the Oscar Pistorius case, but it’s a decision only police can make. The revelation came one day after Botha testified that authorities recovered two boxes of testosterone, along with needles, from Pistorius’ bedroom. This raised speculation that Pistorius was on steroids when he fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last week at his home in Pretoria, South Africa. In the bail hearing, Botha testified that contrary to Pistorius’ claims, he knew Steenkamp “was in the bathroom, and he shot four shots through the door.” Pistorius has claimed that he thought she was an intruder when he fired and the whole thing was a tragic accident; police and prosecutors say otherwise. Botha and Pistorius actually crossed paths before in 2009, when the detective investigated accusations of assault against the Olympic track superstar. Pistorius won global acclaim as the first-ever double-amputee runner in Olympic competition last year, holding his own against able-bodied athletes.

Ashley Benson And Her Girls Do Paris

After those boring pictures of the Spring Breakers girls at the airport yesterday, this is much more like it. The movie premiered in Paris last night and Selena Gomez , Vanessa Hudgens , Ashley Benson , and Rachel Korine all brought their A-game. But I’m most impressed by Ashley, for obvious cleavage-tastic reasons. It must be tough to stand out when two of your co-stars are crazy famous and the other’s married to the director. But the move worked, because for today at least, Ashley and her girls are my clear favorite. » view all 34 photos Photos: WENN.com
