Diddy-Dirty Money Get AMA Crowd Swaying With ‘Coming Home’

Typically flashy rapper slows it down at the American Music Awards — but he still brings the fireworks. By Jayson Rodriguez Diddy performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images/DCP Diddy knows a thing or two about showstopping performances, but during the 2010 American Music Awards, the hip-hop mogul had a more measured set as Dirty Money’s Dawn Richard and Kalenna flanked him through a reflective rendition of his latest, “Coming Home.” “What am I supposed to do when the club lights come on?” Diddy rapped, sporting all-black attire and a half-moon hair part. “It’s easy to be Puff, but it’s harder to be Sean/ What if my twins ask why I ain’t marry their mom?/ Damn, how do I respond?/ What if my son stares with a face like my own?/ And says he wants to be like me when he’s grown?/ Sh–, but I ain’t finish growing.” The rest of his Dirty Money crew wore white and followed Diddy’s lead in the elegant performance. The rapper arrived in a whirl of smoke while his orchestra played up the triumphant track, which will appear on Diddy-Dirty Money’s forthcoming Last Train to Paris. As he reached the stirring lyrics about his offspring, the camera panned to his youngest son, Christian Combs, who had a smile as bright as his father’s jewelry. Fireworks dotted the superstar’s performance, and the audience swayed their arms in unison throughout. “Let the rain wash away/ All the pain of yesterday,” Richard and Kalenna sang on the chorus. “I know my kingdom awaits/ And they’ve forgiven my mistakes/ I’m coming home, coming home/ Tell the world I’m coming home.” What did you think of Diddy’s AMA performance? By Jayson Rodriguez Ol’ Dirty Bastard in 1992 Photo: Chi Modu/ diverseimages/ Getty Images The Wu-Tang Clan ‘s Raekwon is set to release a video for “Ason Jones,” his tribute number to fallen group member Ol’ Dirty Bastard . The track is from Rae’s critically acclaimed Only Built for Cuban Linx … Pt. II album, released last year. On Thursday, Rae released a trailer for the forthcoming video on YouTube . “Yo, let’s toast to the fallen, lost, forgotten,” Raekwon raps in the clip, over views of New York and images of ODB. “If n—-s can hear me, then roll up some broccoli/ Ason, the heart of a lion, a purified mind/ The way he did it with a mic and some wine/ I would never forget the day we used to sit back/ Days I be all up in the crib, listening, holding, align him/ And yo, I just miss this n—a.” Earlier this month, Raekwon spoke to MTV News about ODB and what it would be like performing the Wu’s seminal debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) without the animated and talented MC. “Dirty had given us the energy booster that we need to believe that we are the best,” Rae explained. “I still think about him. … I think as I’m getting a little older, I’m getting a little more sensitive in certain places when it comes to my brother being gone. “It’s gonna be fun to get out here and represent and talk about him and see all them fans go crazy because they love Dirty,” he added. “They love Dirty so much, I know for a fact that when them records come on, they’re gonna go crazy.” There’s no scheduled date for the video premiere as of press time. Raekwon Remembers ODB Before Rock The Bells Tour Launch

Wu-Tang’s Chef expects crowd to fill in late MC’s verses as they perform 36 Chambers. By Shaheem Reid Wu-Tang Clan Photo: LOUD For fans of the architects of hip-hop, the countdown is almost over, and the annual fest that mixes hot newcomers with rap trailblazers is almost upon us. Guerilla Union’s annual Rock the Bells Tour starts Saturday at L.A.’s NOS Center with a historic lineup that includes Snoop Dogg, Slick Rick, the Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One and Rakim. Each of the headliners will perform a classic album from their catalog, and special guest Lauryn Hill will be igniting the stage with a bevy of her hits as well. Wu-Tang has chosen Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) as the LP for their set . The Clan’s Raekwon calls Rock the Bells the “royal rumble of hip-hop.” And while the Chef said he’s excited about revisiting the Clan’s breathtaking debut, he’ll definitely miss the show-stealing presence of late comrade Ol’ Dirty Bastard. “Dirty had given us the energy booster that we need to believe that we are the best,” Rae told MTV News recently in New York. “I still think about him. … I think as I’m getting a little older, I’m getting a little more sensitive in certain places when it comes to my brother being gone. “It’s gonna be fun to get out here and represent and talk about him and see all them fans go crazy because they love Dirty,” he continued. “They love Dirty so much, I know for a fact that when them records come on, they’re gonna go crazy.” Rae expects the crowd to fill in verses for their beloved brother during records such as “Shame on a N—a,” “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’ ” and, of course, “Protect Ya Neck.” “That’s a beautiful thing,” Rae said about crowd participation. “When I think about my brother not being here, it still keeps me wanting to keep that Wu-Tang flag as high as it can be. He was the one that really gave us all the spirit.” Will you be checking Wu-Tang out at Rock the Bells? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Ol’ Dirty Bastard Raekwon
