Rihanna Snubbed By MTV Again With Europe Music Award Nominations?

Go here to read the rest:

When Rihanna was snubbed by MTV for a VMA nomination this year, we thought it was a one-time fluke. But now that the network’ss Europe Music Awards are set to air, and her name has again been left off some serious categories, we’re wondering if they’ve got it out for her. Despite going on tour and releasing a record-breaking six songs from a single album (with music videos to match), the VMA’s didn’t recognize Rihanna for her solo work, only for her collabo with Eminem. Now, it seems the EMAs don’t find her worthy of a “Best Female Artist” win either. Somehow, they see Jennifer Lopez more fitting of the title! Here’s a partial list of the nominees: BEST FEMALE Adele Beyoncé Jennifer Lopez Katy Perry Lady Gaga BEST POP Britney Spears Justin Bieber Katy Perry Lady Gaga Rihanna BEST SONG Adele – “Rolling In The Deep” Bruno Mars – “Grenade” Jennifer Lopez ft Pitbull – “On The Floor” Katy Perry – “Firework” Lady Gaga – “Born This Way” BEST VIDEO Adele – “Rolling In The Deep” Beastie Boys – “Make Some Noise” Beyoncé – “Run The World (Girls)” Justice – “Civilization” Lady Gaga – “Born This Way” Do you think MTV is ignoring Rihanna’s success? 2011 Urbanworld Film Festival Recap [PHOTOS]

Black Hollywood came out in full force at the 15th annual Urbanworld Film Festival .  The opening film Brooklyn Boheme , which documents the rise of  black artistic talent during the 90′s in Fort Greene, was the brainchild of director Diane Paragas and author Nelson George , who witnessed (and was a part of) this late 20th century urban renaissance.  ”It was this amazing community that so many artists came out of, who ended up affecting the world.” Director Spike Lee, comedian Chris Rock, and actor John Boyega ( Attack The Block ) , were in attendance to show support for the film.  Boyega, who was recently cast as  the lead in the the highly anticipated HBO drama “Da Brick” (loosely based on Mike Tyson’s early years), had just spent most of his day undergoing a grueling workout session, in order to prepare for his role as a boxer.  When asked about the media dubbing him the ‘British Denzel Washington’ Boyega replied “I still have a lot of growing to do before I can be a Denzel, but he’s very inspirational.”  Spike Lee, who is directing the pilot episode of “Da Brick”,  immediately cast Boyega after seeing his breakout performance in Attack The Block , called him a “great young actor.” Chris Rock, who also co-stars in Brooklyn Boheme recalled some of his favorite memories of living in Fort Greene.  “I remember a lot of artists living there like Spike, Halle Berry, Wesley Snipes Mos Def, Erykah Badu—just an interesting time.  It was kind of like living in Detroit during the Motown years.” The star wattage continued to shine brightly Friday night as director Mario Van Peebles , 50 Cent and Lynn Whitfield were on hand to promote their film “All Things Fall Apart.”  50 hit the red carpet with his own entourage of eye candy, posing for pics with the cast.  Van Peebles originally intended to play the lead role, but after meeting 50 “a bright, affable young brother,” he opted to take up directing reins for the project instead. Reality star Tami Roman pulled double duty promoting two projects—as an actress in Noel Calloway’s Life, Love, Soul and as a producer in Jerry LaMothe’s film short,  The Tombs which follows a young man’s experiences in the New York City central booking jail system. Spoken word legend Sonia Sanchez was also in attendance to promote her documentary Shake Loose Memories . At the Q&A which took place after, Sanchez gave a call of action to the youth of today, by reminding them of the sacrifices of the generation before.  ”We didn’t live our lives just so you could be pretty.” The HBO dramedy,  “How To Make It In America” screened their second season premiere, followed by a Q&A with author/culture critic Toure and the cast, which included Victor Rasuk and Luiz Guzman . The film festival closed out Saturday evening with the premieres of Life, Love Soul, Kinyarwanda and Yelling To The Sky. Radio host Egypt Sherrod, who makes her acting debut in Life, Love, Soul confessed she was a bundle of nerves the first day on set.  Luckily her co-star Jamie Hector  calmed her down her with some very simple advice, “Just breathe.” Victoria Mahoney , director of the coming-of-age feature,  Yelling To The Sky was in high spirits, as her project was recently picked up for distribution by MPI Media Group.  Asked how she was able to round up some of the best and brightest young talent ( Zoe Kravitz ,  Gabourey Sidibe , Yolonda Ross , Shareeka Epps ) Mahoney replied “with a lot of begging…and persistence!”  As for her advice to up and coming female directors, Mahoney had this to say “Never take no for an answer. If they close the door on you, go through the side window.” On Sunday, the awards luncheon was hosted by model/actress Liris Crosse and Vibe Magazine’s Datwon Thomas in downtown Tribeca.  There was a true sense of community amongst the directors, actors/actresses, and screenwriters, as past Urbanworld alumnae like Qasim B. ( Mooz-lum ) and Ava DuVernay ( I Will Follow ) mingling freely with this year’s new crop of talent.  Jamil Walker Smith, actor and director of “Make A Movie Like Spike” (featured in this year’s festival) eloquently expressed his wish for aspiring black filmmakers: “Hopefully the more personal we make our films, the more universal our stories become.” The list of winners is as follows: Best Narrative Feature MAMITAS Written and Directed by Nicholas Ozeki; Produced by Adam Renehan, Andrew Daniel Wells Honorable Mention: Make a Movie Like Spike (Written and Directed by Jamil Walker Smith) Restless City (for Cinematography – Bradford Young; Directed by Andrew Dosunmu) Best Narrative Short WAKE Written and Directed by Bree Newsome; Produced by Valerie Champagne, Bree Newsome Honorable Mention: Counterfeit (Written and Directed by Geoff Bailey) The Man in the Glass Case (Written and Directed by Maxwell Addae) Best Documentary Feature ZERO PERCENT Written and Directed by Tom Skousen; Produced by Robert Fernandez, Tom Skousen Best Documentary Short LOVE LOCKDOWN Directed by Nadia Hallgren; Produced by Jamie-James Medina Honorable Mention: Common Ground (for cinematography – Eduard Jakaj, Stephen Dwight; Directed by Hollie Fifer) Best Screenplay AFTER THE STORM Written by Cole Wiley Honorable Mention: Blackbird (Written by David Polk) The Divide (Written by Rashmi Singh) Best Teleplay WHITEHALL Written by Dawn M. Sarah Michelle Gellar Speaks on Return to Television

To the excitement of millions of TV fans, Sarah Michelle Gellar makes her return to the small screen this summer. Years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off the air, the actress will anchor Ringer on The CW, a drama that has her portraying the dual roles of twins Bridget and Siobhan. What attracted Gellar to the project? “ Ringer is the perfect balance of what audiences want to see me do. It’s Cruel Intentions meets Buffy ,” Sarah says in this week’s EW . Gellar has a very good excuse for remaining away for such a long period of time. A very cute excuse, we should say: daughter Charlotte. “I got to see the first step, hear the first word. Most people – and certainly many working moms – are not lucky enough to get that. I wanted to appreciate the fact that I had worked so hard all my life to be able to have those moments. I don’t regret anything about making that choice.” It was a noble decision, for sure. But allow us to say this to Charlotte: Thanks for letting your mother back into our lives!

Pitbull on Lindsay Lohan Slam: Just Tryin’ to Help!

Pitbull feels Lindsay Lohan should be thanking him, rather than suing him, for taking a shot at her with a memorable line in his hit song, “Give Me Everything.” On his official fansite, he said , “I was very surprised when I found out about the lawsuit … at first I read it and I thought, ‘This has got to be a joke.'” Last week LiLo sued Pitbull for wrongfully using her name for commercial gain by using the lyric, “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan” in the song. The rapper says it was all a joke and that he supports Lindsay’s career, adding that, “In no way shape or form would I wanna bring that on anyone.” “I didn’t look to defamate [sic], degrade or hurt someone’s career.” “For me mentioning it … on the number one record in the world … I thought it would be helping someone’s career and keeping them relevant.” Not an unreasonable point, considering Pitbull is collaborating on what seems like every other song on the radio today. Think about it, Lindsay. He concluded his discussion of the issue by inviting her to be his guest at the upcoming MTV VMAs. So far, no word if she’s taken him up on it. [Photos: WENN.com]

Eminem Is Not To Be Messed With, Game Says

‘He’ll end your career,’ Game says of Em on ‘RapFix Live,’ following the release of his dis track ‘Uncle Otis.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Game Photo: MTV News The Game made headlines last month when he dropped “Uncle Otis,” a lyrical call-out session on which the Cali rapper poked fun at everyone from Jay-Z to Big Sean to Kreayshawn and 50 Cent . When it comes to hip-hop disses, Game isn’t gun-shy, but there is one MC he would never throw shots at. “One thing that stuck with me is that Eminem is not to be f—ed with ever in hip-hop, ever,” he told Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” Though the pair once collaborated on “We Ain’t,” a track off of Game’s 2005 debut The Documentary, the Compton rapper’s famous feud with Eminem cohort 50 Cent has affected his and Slim Shady’s relationship. Though Game and Marshall no longer speak, Game holds a great amount of respect for the Detroit wordsmith. “If you notice out of everybody I take a shot at, that’s the only person that’s untouched. He’s in a bubble and you don’t even say nothing to Eminem. To anybody that ever does, God bless you,” Game said. “He’ll end your career.” Game, who is signed to Dr. Dre ‘s Aftermath records, got his start in 50’s G-Unit group, appearing on their mixtapes and collaborating with Fif himself. In 2005, a rift grew between the Game and 50 , and subsequent shots were fired as the two rappers’ camps butted heads outside of New York City’s Hot 97 radio station. The two tried to patch things up during a press conference in New York City a few months later, but the truce didn’t last. Game even told MTV News that Michael Jackson once tried to bring the two warring rappers together, but things didn’t pan out. The feud between Game and 50 affected both of their relationships with Dr. Dre, who has overseen both careers, and affected Game’s relationship with Eminem. “It just had to happen, man, and I was put into a situation where I had to defend myself lyrically and I did,” Game said of the many dis records he threw G-Unit’s way. “It wasn’t personal to anybody; I told that to Dre, I’ve told that to Paul Rosenberg, who manages Em, and the only the person I hadn’t spoke to about it was Em and 50.” “Sometimes stuff happens and I wish it had longevity,” he said of the Dre/50/Eminem relationship. “But it didn’t, so no regrets on my behalf.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Game, Diddy And Machine Gun Kelly Related Artists The Game Eminem Dr. Dre

A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg and Jarobi On the Beats, Rhymes & Life Beef and Rap Today

When Michael Rapaport ‘s documentary lens captured the behind-the-scenes drama between members of iconic rap group A Tribe Called Quest , his subjects took to the media to voice their discontent. Q-Tip Remembers Making “One Love” For Nas

See more here:

In the next installment of Vibe’s “Full Clip” series MC/producer Q-tip discusses his entire catalog of hip-hop hits for A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, Nas , Biggie and more. The Queens, NY native has been making headlines for his dispute with actor/director Michael Rappaport over his group’s documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life . With a focus on the group’s internal strife Tip told the mag that he hopes the next hip-hop documentary “focuses on the culture.” Nevertheless, Tip seemed to have genuine fun reminiscing about the methods and occasional madness behind his music. In one portion he describes making “One Love” for a teenaged Nasir Jones: “I specifically produced ‘One Love’ for Nas . I knew he was special even before Illmatic. He was the MC who could capture the picture of everything he was rhyming about. His approach was incredible…he had the perfect cadence. You related to Nas because you felt he was from around the way. And people forget that Nas was a prodigy…he was younger than all of us at that time. So I told him, ‘Yo, I’m going to give you some spooky sounding shit for your album.’ And Nas was like, ‘Yeah, I need that to capture the feel of what I’m saying. I need that crazy, mysterious shit.’ So that was the vibe of ‘One Love.’ I knew that it was going to be a classic track. I just knew it. It’s one of those special songs that when you work on it you know what it’s going to be.” READ THE FULL CLIP AT VIBE MAGAZINE RELATED POSTS: FACT OF THE DAY: Rah Digga Was Originally Q-Tip’s Artist Consequence On Kanye West Beef: “I Wasn’t Trying To Air Anybody Out” [EXLCUSIVE VIDEO] Q-Tip & Phife Talk Sophomore Jinx In Clip From New Documentary [VIDEO]
