Lindsay Lohan to Be Grilled on Drug Use

Lindsay Lohan may be ordered to testify about whether she used drugs the night of the wild, Pacific Coast Highway joyride that landed her in jail back in 2007. In addition to the DUI conviction and subsequent probation battle she’s currently waging as a result, Linds also faces lawsuit brought by the people in the car. At her much-anticipated July 6 probation violation hearing, the actress may have to face the music, or at least a battery of questions surrounding her conduct. Lohan’s attorney argued that his client shouldn’t be forced to answer the questions based on her Fifth Amendment rights, but the judge didn’t see it that way. Lindsay is free on bail pending the July 6 hearing. TROUBLED : Linds’ woes keep piling up. [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] The deposition to take place at her attorney’s office, to avoid a media onslaught , and will have a time limit of two hours, LiLo’s lawyer Edwin McPherson said. He told the court, “This lawsuit is about a two minute chase that ruined her (passenger Tracie Rice)… did this ruin her life? That will be up to the jury decide.” Rice’s lawyer, Paul Hoffman, fired back, “Lindsay Lohan behaved in an outrageous way that night, and it will be up to a jury to decide what the damages are.” McPherson also went on to say that a settlement offer had been presented by the plaintiff’s but it was “rejected.” He emphasized, “We will be going to trial.” It’s unclear how much the plaintiffs are suing Lindsay Lohan for, but the trial in this case would be scheduled for late July if it isn’t called off before that time.

Big Apple? More Like Big Brother

Citing the specter of terrorism, an appeals court overturned a decision that would have forced New York City to turn over documents detailing the surveillance of demonstrators, street performers and other ne’er-do-wells who may have threatened the 2004 Republican convention … and our national security, of course. New York Times: More than 1,800 people were arrested and fingerprinted during the convention, but lawyers for the civil liberties group, representing some of those arrested, were seeking the documents to see how and why arrests were made and what information the police may have had before they made the arrests. Whistleblower: BP Risks More Massive Catastrophes in Gulf

A former contractor who worked for BP claims the oil conglomerate broke federal laws and violated its own internal procedures by failing to maintain crucial safety and engineering documents related to one of the firms other deepwater production projects in the Gulf of Mexico, according to internal emails and other documents obtained by Truthout. The whistleblower, whose name has been withheld at the person's request because the whistleblower still works in the oil industry and fears retaliation, first raised concerns about safety issues related to BP Atlantis, the world's largest and deepest semi-submersible oil and natural gas platform, located about 200 miles south of New Orleans, in November 2008. Atlantis, which began production in October 2007, has the capacity to produce about 8.4 million gallons of oil and 180 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. (more at link) added by: Vierotchka
