By Steven Roberts, with reporting by Matt Elias Childish Gambino Photo: Childish Gambino Childish Gambino ‘s most recent offering “Bonfire” serves as the first single from his first physical album, Camp. The action-packed, fast-paced, metaphor-filled song not only fits Gambino’s camp theme, but it seems like a metaphor itself, signaling his arrival as a fully formed MC. MTV News caught up with Gambino (a.k.a. “Community” star Donald Glover) in full makeup on the set of his video for “Bonfire,” and he said the album was a real labor of love. “The biggest compliment I can give it is that I like it more than everything else I’ve done,” he said. “I think it’s a cohesive piece, and I wanted to tell a whole story with it. Hopefully, the whole album is like a book or a novel where [there’s] a through line.” Gambino said his favorite albums are the ones that tell stories that transport you somewhere else. On Camp, he hopes to emulate Biggie’s storytelling prowess on the 1997 classic Life After Death. Gambino’s upcoming debut album holds a special place in his heart for two reasons. For one, it will be the first time his fans can hold a physical copy of his music — thanks to his deal with Glassnote Records. Secondly, it was the culmination of everything he’s worked on. “There were songs that we made, and I was like, ‘This can’t be on the album.’ I felt like that was a thing of growth. There [would be] other times when I was like, ‘Oh, this song is dope. We’ll just throw it on there too.’ But this one was like, ‘No. We have to stick to the theme and the idea of what I’m trying to say.’ ” What are you expecting from Childish Gambino’s debut? ‘iCarly’ star postpones tour dates after breaking her ankle early Thursday morning. By Jocelyn Vena Miranda Cosgrove Photo: Getty Images “iCarly” star Miranda Cosgrove was injured in a bus accident early on Thursday (August 11), her rep confirmed to MTV News. The 18-year-old actress/singer, who is currently on her summer tour, was not seriously injured but did suffer a broken ankle. “Miranda Cosgrove’s tour bus was involved in an accident early this morning in Illinois on I-70, just outside of Vandalia,” her rep said in a statement. Cosgrove had been traveling from a Wednesday night show in Ohio to Kansas for her Friday stop on the Dancing Crazy Tour. “There were five passengers on the bus, and Miranda suffered a broken ankle. At this time, we are told everyone will be fine. “Because of this, her tour is postponed until further notice,” the statement concludes. “Miranda thanks everyone for their understanding and support.” The tour had dates slated through October, when it was going to wrap up in Arizona. She was about halfway through the jaunt, which kicked off in Ohio last month. ‘Wow, you haven’t seen the side of Jennifer [Lopez] that I’ve seen,’ Tyler reveals to MTV News. By Kara Warner Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson Photo: MTV News Anyone who’s been watching the bright and shiny new season of “American Idol” would likely agree that the addition of new judge Steven Tyler has added a wacky and even more unpredictable element to the show. MTV News caught up with the man in question, as well as fellow judge Randy Jackson, at the “American Idol” event at the PaleyFest, an annual event that celebrates TV’s biggest and brightest names both in front of and behind the camera. While there, we asked them which judge they thought was the wackiest. Not surprisingly, the duo veered on- and off-topic, which made for an entertaining, if random chat. “Ryan is the weirdest,” Jackson said. “And he has a little bit of a B.O. going on, but oh, we shouldn’t talk about that. What do you think of the judges, Steven?” “Wow, I mean, you haven’t seen the side of Jennifer [Lopez] that I’ve seen,” Tyler said. “I knew it existed when I watched ‘The Back-Up Plan’ and I said I would only do it if she did, because I’d already met [Randy],” Tyler explained of seeing Lopez’s romantic comedy. “And when I met him at lunch, after five minutes, I thought all the cameras in the world could be rolling so I knew I’d jump into this. But Jennifer, oh my God — look out.” Tyler went on to say that the upcoming slew of live shows don’t make him nervous or worried in any way. “I’m all right with it. I’m having a blast!” he said. “Don’t forget I’m addicted to adrenaline: anything that scares me, I love it. I love it.
