These are dark times, friends, and there's no denying that. But while these are dark times – maybe even the darkest, who knows? – we also have quite a few rays of light to carry us through. One of those rays is Saturday Night Live and the brilliant work they've been doing with mocking and belittling the complete and utter mess that is the U.S. government these days. And last night, they really went for it. For the opening, we were treated to a hilarious reprisal of Melissa McCarthy's impression of Sean Spicer , Donald Trump's press secretary. She was loud, unnecessarily aggressive, obnoxious – just like the real Sean Spicer! – in a skit that may have even topped last week's Another highlight of the skit was Kate McKinnon's simply incredible impression of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Sessions' brief interlude during Spicer's news conference sadly didn't last too long before he started getting racist, so he had to leave. The whole thing is even more delightful when you remember that last week, we heard a report that Trump didn't appreciate Melissa's version of Spicer because “Trump doesn't like his people to look weak.” And he looked weak, naturally, because he was played by a woman. So with Melissa coming back as Spicer, plus Kate's debut as Sessions, the White House crew must not be too happy right now. McKinnon also played Elizabeth Warren and, in a controversial turn, a deranged Kellyanne Conway in a Fatal Attraction-esque skit last night. All that was missing was her classic portrayal of Hillary Clinton as a workaholic cyborg, but Kate has been on fire these days. Keep up the good fight, Saturday Night Live . Watch the hilarious video below:
Joy Villa made quite a fashion statement on the red carpet of the 2017 Grammy Awards. By showing a lot of skin? By going with a bold color? By choosing an unusual hairstyle? Nope, nope and nope. The singer/songwriter did so by wearing a red, white and blue dress that has “Make America Great Again” written on the front and “TRUMP” written along the back. As you might expect, the outfit earned Villa a great deal of derision on social media, with one Twitter user noting: “Someone who calls herself a feminist in her Twitter bio is wearing a Make America Great Again dress to the Grammys.” Judge the ensemble for yourself via the following photo gallery: 1. MAGA FTW! Joy Villa made quite the impression at the 2017 Grammy. She wants to Make America Great Again, apparently. 2. Sending a Message Joy Villa is a Donald Trump supporter. What other conclusion can we draw from this dress? 3. A Bold Statement Do you need us to finish the rest of this dress? There’s a “P” blocked from this photo. The back reads “Trump.” 4. A Fashion Winner or Loser? Make America Great Again. It’s a slogan that singer Joy Villa can evidently get behind. 5. I Just Want to Make Headlines! Joy Villa turned heads at the 2017 Grammy Awards. That’s what happens when you wear a Make America Great Again dress. 6. Did Trump Pay Her for This? That’s what some Twitter users are wondering. View Slideshow
You guys know I’ve had a serious thing for hot Russians lately (I’m just trying to get on Donald Trump’s good side). And I thought I’d found my new Russian crush in Oksana Rykova . But turns out the Insta-hottie’s actually from Montreal. Hmm. Do they still do mail-order brides from Canada? I bet I wouldn’t have to pay as much for shipping and handling, at least. get it @j.crvz A video posted by Oksana (@oksana_rykova) on Apr 26, 2016 at 1:40pm PDT » view all 12 photos
Donald Trump has been president for 18 days now, and the impact of his haphazard style of governance and willingness to flout the central tenets of the Constitution can be seen everywhere. But hey, on the bright side … at least the situation has helped Lena Dunham shed some pounds? Yes, the living embodiment of the phrase “born on third, thinks she hit a triple” stopped by the Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show on Monday morning Asked about her recent weight loss, Dunham credited the regime of Commander Baby Fists with inadvertently helping her drop the extra pounds: “Donald Trump became president and I stopped being able to eat food,” she told Stern. “Everyone’s been asking like, ‘What have you been doing?’ And I’m like, ‘Try soul-crushing pain and devastation and hopelessness and you, too, will lose weight.’” Yes, Lena says she became so distraught since Trump was elected back in November that she basically stopped eating. Tens of millions of Americans have taken issue with Trump’s Muslim ban and other controversial measures, but Dunham’s dislike for the president is both political and personal: “He said I was a B-list actor with no mojo,” she griped to Stern. B-list? Pretty tame by Trump trash talk standards, but it doesn’t take much to wound Lena. This is far from the first time that Dunham has criticized Trump, and she’s been admirably scathing in her assessment of his first weeks in office during her current press tour to promote the sixth and final season of Girls. “All he does is talk about women like they’re objects,” she said at TimesTalks: A Final Farewell to the Cast of Girls. “It doesn’t reclaim our power to talk about him like he’s an object. It doesn’t reclaim our power to insult his physicality.” Obviously, this story has us deeply conflicted. Dunham is right to be so critical of Trump, but at the same time, she’s Lena Dunham. The same Lena Dunham who tried to reach out to women who have had abortions by stating that she wishes she’d had an abortion . The same Lena Dunham who takes to social media to complain about culturally insensitive sushi and guns in Jason Bourne movies . At first, agreeing with Lena on an issue made us feel ill at ease, but then we had an epiphany: Maybe she’s fostering unity by offering us something the whole nation can agree on: No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, everyone can agree that the only appropriate response when Dunham starts talking about the importance of her cellulite is looooong sigh punctuated by an exaggerated eye roll. See? We can still agree on some issues, America. Let’s all thank Lena Dunham for helping us see the light and then go right back to trying to ignore her. Good news! You now have one more abomination to throw in the face of your idiot friend who keeps insisting you need to give the Trump administration a chance. Unfortunately, it comes at the expense of a generation of a schoolchildren. Moments ago, Betsy DeVos – Trump’s pick as U.S. Secretary of Education – was confirmed for the position in a vote so close that a tie had to be broken by Vice President Mike Pence. The 51-50 vote officially makes DeVos one of the controversial cabinet members in American history. And why are so many unhappy about the appointment? Well, there’s the fact that DeVos will be in charge of our nation’s public schools, despite the fact that she never attended one, worked in one, or sent her children to one. And the fact that she favors privatizing public schools, despite the fact that such systems promote racial segregation and fail to benefit others besides wealthy CEOs like herself and Trump. Or how about the fact that openly bought her post through millions in campaign contributions to Trump and many of the Republican senators who voted today. Here’s a helpful look at how her cash was distributed. Little Marco must be tough to buy off! Two Republican senators did vote against the appointment, proving that there is some opposition to Trump’s billionaires first agenda. Just not enough to make any real difference. This is far from the only controversial cabinet appointment made by Trump, and the president seems intent on privatizing or eliminating any of federal programs and services. There were cries of outrage when Rex Tillerson was appointed Secretary of State because the Exxon-Mobil CEO seems to have been chosen for no other reason than that he’s a close business ally to Vladimir Putin. Then there’s Scott Pruitt, tapped by Trump to head the Environmental Protection Agency – which he spent his entire career as Oklahoma’s Attorney General at odds with, and often suing. And yet the DeVos nomination somehow seems even worse. Almost like the people of this country care about their children’s future. Did Trump overplay his hand with this one? Probably not, but we can dare to dream. View Slideshow: Badlands National Park Goes Rogue on Trump, Starts Tweeting Climate Facts
