D.A. on Dr. Conrad Murray Defense: Still Homicide!

To say the prosecutors in the Michael Jackson manslaughter case are unmoved by Dr. Conrad Murray’s defense theory would be an understatement. They don’t seem particularly worried about it, either. At the preliminary hearing, a doctor for the L.A. County Coroner’s Office testified that even if Michael Jackson injected himself with a fatal dose of Propofol, as Dr. Murray’s defense team claims, he is still guilty of homicide. Dr. Christopher Rogers believes Dr. Murray had no business administering Propofol outside a hospital setting and without appropriate equipment. Rogers said that given Michael Jackson’s dependence on Propofol – Murray calims Jackson begged for the drug – the fact that Murray left MJ by himself (which he admitted) with access to the powerful anesthetic constitutes a homicide. Well, talk about turning the tables on that theory. To make matters worse, a doctor for the L.A. County Coroner’s Office testified he doesn’t believe Dr. Murray only gave Michael Jackson 25 mg of Propofol. Without saying Murray lied to cops in his interview two days after MJ died, Rogers said Jackson would have awakened after 3-5 minutes after that dose. Rogers also testified he doesn’t think Jackson swallowed Propofol, another angle to a defense that Murray’s attorneys laid the groundwork for this week. Very small amounts of the drug were found in Jackson’s stomach, he said in the latest round of testimony to see if Murray will be tried for manslaughter . Rogers said he believes it’s inappropriate to use Propofol for insomnia and that Murray’s care was “substandard” any way you slice it. Your move, doc. Dr. Murray …

Dr. Conrad Murray’s Defense Plays its Hand, Insinuates Michael Jackson Did Himself In

After remaining mostly silent thus far, Dr. Conrad Murray’s lawyers laid some of the groundwork for their defense at his preliminary hearing today. He’s charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death. Murray’s lawyer, J. Michael Flanagan, asked a Coroner investigator two questions: Was the IV bag of Propofol fingerprinted? Was it possible for Jackson to reach the syringes from the bed? The defense will argue that Jackson killed himself by accident as he grew frustrated when he couldn’t sleep and gave himself the fatal dosage. Propofol, a powerful anesthetic, is what killed Jackson. An investigator for the L.A. County Coroner’s Office said 12 bottles were found in his home. A pharmacist Dr. Murray used to order Propofol testified that the doctor ordered box after box of the drug in the two months before Jackson died. In all, Murray, the sole defendant in the Michael Jackson case , ordered 255 vials of Propofol in the two months leading up to the singer’s demise. It’s still very early, but this just makes Murray look …

Phone Records, Paramedics, Michael Jackson Aide Paint Unflattering Picture of Dr. Conrad Murray

Dr. Conrad Murray didn’t exactly rush to call 911 after he found Michael Jackson lifeless, according to paramedics … and the doctor’s phone records. Murray may try to argue Michael Jackson killed himself with a lethal dose of Propofol in a brief window during which the doc went to the bathroom. When he came back, the defense theory goes, Murray called 911 right away. But phone company employees told a different story in court today . The phone company says that in the hours surrounding the revelation that Michael was lifeless in bed, Murray was texting and calling lots of people. Not on his list? 911. Records show Dr. Murray was sending and receiving multiple texts. Two texts were sent by Murray to someone in Texas at 12:03 and 12:04 p.m. It’s unclear if the texts pertained to the women in Murray’s office who went to a storage facility to retrieve boxes, but you have to wonder. The death timeline dispute has permeated for months, with some law enforcement sources believing MJ was injected as early as 10:50 a.m. Murray also sent data at 12:15, 12:18 and 12:53 p.m. on June 25, 2009, when the King of Pop passed away of acute Propofol intoxication. The singer’s personal physician also called a number of people, including his girlfriend, Nicole Alvarez, but the only record shows 1:08 p.m. This is inconsistent with earlier claims that he talked with Alvarez around noon and when he realized MJ was in distress, dropped the phone. Meanwhile, a paramedic testified today that Dr. Conrad Murray denied giving Michael Jackson drugs as the singer lay lifeless in his bedroom. Martin Blount said when he walked into MJ’s room Murray was sweating profusely. Murray told EMTs he waited only one minute to call 911. Another paramedic testified that he believed Murray waited between 20 minutes to an hour to call 911. The call was placed at 12:21 p.m. Then there’s this. Alberto Alvarez (no relation to Nicole), a bodyguard who says he was MJ’s Director of Logistics, said Murray removed bottles from MJ’s room. Along with an IV bag with a milky-white substance, believed to be Propofol, Murray told Alvarez to remove certain bottles before calling 911. Alvarez says he walked into MJ’s bedroom at 12:17 p.m. he saw Michael laying motionless. Murray told him Michael had “an allergic reaction.” He ordered him to collect a bag of bottles and put them in a bag. Alvarez says Murray “instructed me to remove the IV bag from the IV stand.” Alvarez says there was a second IV bag – which contained saline. Murray told him to leave it. He also said that Michael’s kids watched him die . Stay tuned for more as this develops .

Kenny Ortega to Testify About Dr. Conrad Murray Drugging Michael Jackson at Hearing

Kenny Ortega, director and producer of Michael Jackson’s “This Is It,” will be a star witness in prosecutors’ bid to convict Dr. Conrad Murray of manslaughter. Ortega’s testimony is crucial, because – to make a long story short – he will help the prosecution argue that MJ was fine before Murray began drugging him . A week before MJ died, he was too weak to perform , so rehearsals for This Is It (later made into a film, which you can see the trailer for below) were canceled. The next day (June 20, 2009), an emergency meeting was held at Michael’s home with Jackson, Ortega, Murray, officials from AEG and Dr. Murray present. The meeting was “intense, loud and argumentative,” with Kenny reading Michael the riot act, imploring him to take care of himself with the tour imminent.

Michael Jackson Lawyer on Dr. Conrad Murray Defense Theory: Come On!

Thomas Mesereau, Michael Jackson’s former attorney, has come out swinging at Dr. Conrad Murray’s defense team and the theory they will reportedly use. Of reports that Murray will claim Michael Jackson killed himself , Mesereau scoffs and blames MJ’s death squarely on Murray, as the star was “not suicidal.” “The defense lawyers have to do something. What they’re gonna try and do is deflect attention from their guilty client onto Michael Jackson,” he said. Thomas Mesereau Slams Conrad Murray Mesereau successfully defended Michael in his 2005 molestation trial. “The reality is Michael Jackson was not suicidal or self-destructive in the way they’re trying to say,” he added. “Hopefully their defense will not succeed.” While he’s spot on as far as the defense trying some misdirection and putting MJ on trial instead of Murray, the “suicidal” comment is a bit off base. The defense will say that a frustrated Michael MAY have killed himself by accident after trying to self-administer Propofol with Murray out of the room. They may also argue he was too weak to perform , after years of being treated poorly by other doctors and by himself, to absolve Murray of blame.

Dr. Conrad Murray Preliminary Hearing Set For Next Week; Prosecutors to Outline Case

Dr. Conrad Murray’s preliminary hearing begins Tuesday. He faces a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of Michael Jackson. When it does, don’t expect him to raise many objections to the prosecution’s case against him. Instead, he’ll just sit back and see what they’ve got. As the prosecution lays out its case, Murray’s lawyer Ed Chernoff will be looking for holes and inconsistencies, but won’t present his side. Why? OBSERVE AND REPORT : Murray will do little else . The judge will surely order Murray to stand trial. Judges rarely dismiss cases after a preliminary hearing, so there’s no point in defending him now. Proving Murray’s guilt is a serious, more complicated task, but proving he should merely stand trial in the eyes of a judge? It’s all but a done deal . Murray reportedly plans to argue that Michael Jackson killed himself with the lethal dose of Propofol, but you won’t hear that next week at all. Instead, he’ll watch the state play its hand and plan his strategy for the manslaughter trial that will almost certainly follow later in the year. The prosecution will call around 30 witnesses, including experts and LAPD members, to establish Murray acted recklessly in drugging MJ. Another potential Murray defense angle when the time comes? That so many others over-medicated MJ , it’s impossible to single him out.

Stripper: Conrad Murray Brought Me to MJ’s House

A Los Angeles stripper claims the embattled Dr. Conrad Murray brought her home from Sam’s Hof Brau strip club weeks before Michael Jackson died last June. Whether that’s true, or what bearing it had on Murray’s treatment of Jackson that fateful morning is completely unclear, but Joe Jackson sees a connection. Michael’s father and his lawyer, Brian Oxman, will interview a stripper who not only claims Dr. Murray was at the strip club hours before Michael Jackson died, but that she was at Michael Jackson’s house after being invited by the doctor. The stripper, who claims she was working at Sam’s Hof Brau on June 24, 2009, says that Dr. Conrad Murray was at the club drinking just before midnight. Oxman, who is repping Joe in his wrongful death lawsuit against Murray, who faces involuntary manslaughter charges, has spoken with the stripper’s “rep.” The stripper claims weeks before Jackson died, Dr. Murray invited her to Jackson’s home in Holmby Hills. She claims she went late one night, after the club closed, and the King of Pop was there, however he was in a deep sleep. In Oxman’s letter of intent to sue Dr. Murray for the wrongful death of Jackson, he accused the doctor of drinking at Sam’s Hof Brau before treating MJ. Dr. Murray’s reps have strongly denied he was at the club on June 24, and even more adamantly, have said that the doctor does not drink … period. The death of Michael Jackson took place June 25, 2009.

New Couple Alert: Paris Hilton and Cy Waits

For the second straight weekend, ho-tel heiress Paris Hilton flew 4,000 miles from overseas to visit … Las Vegas. Which is just a few hours from her L.A. home. The reason? Cy Waits. She’s dating the businessman and nightclub entrepreneur based in Sin City – and going to great lengths to keep the new romance hot! A week ago, Paris Hilton came in via a flight from Egypt, and over this past weekend, on a flight straight from Brazil. Says a source close to Cy Waits … “It sure looks as if the new matchup is picking up steam on their fourth weekend of togetherness. They are inseparable while here in Las Vegas.” He and Paris Hilton went to Pure, where sister Nicky was hosting and celebrating beau David Katzenberg’s new MTV series The Hard Times of R.J. Berger . Cy Waits and Paris Hilton are really hitting it off . Later, Paris, Cy, Nicky and David went to hotspot LAX in the Luxor, where Shayne Lamas and Nik Richie , her husband and TheDirty.com founder were hosting. “They’re taking it slow and sensibly,” one of Paris’ friends told me. “She’s happy, and that’s the most important thing. It’s not super-serious dating yet.” “Nobody knows where this might lead. I don’t even think they do. Paris is so busy with her launch of her new Tease fragrance inspired by [Marilyn Monroe].” “They’re seeing each other and getting to know each other better. She thinks he is very sweet, considerate and caring and loves the fact that he’s self-made.” That’s a great little dig at former boyfriend Doug Reinhardt, heir to his family’s frozen burrito fortune, but pretty much useless on his own merit.
