Report: Carey Mulligan Locked for Dragon Tattoo

After nearly choking with excitement at the prospect of starring in David Fincher’s English-language remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo , it looks like Carey Mulligan will get her wish: A report in the Times says she’s received Fincher’s blessing for the thriller’s punky female lead. Moreover, Fincher is said to want Brad Pitt for the film as well — which could theoretically scuttle the star’s other, lower-paying Sony effort Moneyball depending on scheduling. If this doesn’t affirm the surging Moneyball curse , then nothing will. [ The Times via TOH ]

Also debuting: The Losers , which, duh. For commentary, check the title. Oh, and for the thirty-seven of you who still care: Kick-Ass saw a Friday-to-Friday drop of 63 percent and landed in fifth place. Cue the wails of “You’re expectations were too high!” The top-five after the jump.

Friday Box Office: Good Night

Score one for the traditionalists! Maybe. If Date Night (a better than expected $9.5 million on Friday) can hold off Clash of the Titans ($7.8 million) for the remainder of the weekend it will become only the fourth non-3D film released this year to lead the box office. And they said two dimensions were dead. Elsewhere: don’t look now, but the assumed disappointment that was How to Train Your Dragon experienced a scant 19% drop from Friday-to-Friday and has slowly become one of the biggest hits in 2010. Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg is writing that “Suck it, Pixar!” e-mail right about now. The top-five after the jump.

Dragon Age’s Gay Elf Sex Scene

A hidden gay elf sex scene in “Dragon Age: Origins” is freaking the culture warriors out a bit right now. Should awkward gay elf soldiers be allowed to have surprisingly tender lovemaking sessions with each other in role-playing games? Or is that a bad thing that hurts America?
