Mad Men Confirmed for More Seasons with Matt Weiner

AMC and Lion’s Gate reached a deal that guarantees three more seasons of Mad Men with Creator Matt Weiner as show runner. AMC mostly backed down on the budget cuts and product placement they were initially demanding (Yay!). However while Weiner will produce 47-minute episodes for the first and last episodes of the show, he will deliver shorter 45-minute cuts for episodes 2-12 when they run on AMC to make more room for advertisements (Boo.). They will be restored to 47-minutes for VOD, DVD and other digital platforms (Yay!). The fifth season will premiere in March 2012, and Weiner says these will likely be the last three seasons. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (DVD/Blu-ray Combo)

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (DVD/Blu-ray Combo) Justin Bieber (Actor) , John Chu (Director)   |   Format: Blu-ray 864% Sales Rank in Movies & TV: 68 (was 656 yesterday) (8) Buy new: $27.99 (Visit the Movers & Shakers in Movies & TV list for authoritative information on this product’s current rank.) Review & Description Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is the inspiring, entertaining and intimate look at the life and meteoric rise of pop phenomenon Justin Bieber. From small town boy to global super-star, Never Say Never follows Justin Bieber’s journey from his early years, to his rise from break-out internet sensation to global super-star, culminating with a sold-out show at the famed Madison Square Garden. More than just a concert, Never Say Never is a captivating, cinematic event featuring all-star musical talent including, Usher, Jaden Smith, Ludacris, and more! Never underestimate the power of perseverance, social media, good hair, and a winning smile. Small town boy Justin Bieber is a young musician (16 years old at the time of this film’s release) who started out goofing around on the drums at home as a young child and posting videos on You Tube as a preteen. With the help of producer Scooter Braun, he has rocketed to the status of pop phenomenon, performing for a sold-out house at the coveted Madison Square Garden in less than two years. Part documentary, part concert video, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never combines archival home videos with live concert footage; interviews with everyone from Justin’s young single mother and his grandparents to his vocal coach “Mama Jan” Smith, pop icon and actor Usher, and producer Braun; and way too much footage of squealing, overwrought preteen female fans (the latter will likely cause one’s eyes to spontaneously roll back in one’s head and trigger a gag reflex unless one happens to be a 10- to 12-year-old girl). Showcased are Bieber’s early visits to every radio station imaginable; his life backstage, on the road, and during a rare visit with his friends back home; the determination of those around him to keep his life as normal as possible; and lots of up-close footage of his concerts. Throughout the 10 days preceding his Garden debut, guest artists like Miley Cyrus, Usher, Jaden Smith, and Boyz II Men join Bieber onstage for collaborative performances of songs including “Overboard,” “Somebody to Love,” “Never Say Never,” and “U Smile.” Bieber also deals with the stress and pain of a throat infection that causes him to cancel his first show ever and threatens to prevent him from honoring his performance date at the Garden. Finally, the day of the Madison Square Garden performance arrives and viewers are treated to a great sampling of Bieber’s powerful performance. The film does a good job of chronicling Bieber’s rise to stardom, but let’s face it, his career has spanned less than two years as of this film, so there’s not really all that much to say in a movie that lasts almost two hours. But even if you’re not a rabid Justin Bieber fan, you have to admit the kid has talent and you’ve got to respect his incredible journey. Petey Pablo Pleads Guilty To Gun Charges, Faces Up To 10 Years In Jail

Rapper was arrested in September for trying to board a plane with a firearm. By MTV News staff Petey Pablo Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage North Carolina rapper Petey Pablo faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to gun charges from trying to board a plane with a firearm on September 11, 2010, according to The Associated Press. According to original reports, Pablo (born Moses Barrett III) was arrested when security at Raleigh-Durham International Airport found a Smith & Wesson 639 in his carry-on luggage. According to reports, the rapper was on his way to Los Angeles to attend the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Pablo claimed he didn’t know the gun was in the bag but was still charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and attempting to take a gun onto an aircraft. On Wednesday, the rapper — who is best known for his singles “Raise Up” and “Freek-a-Leek” — reached an agreement and pleaded guilty to the possession of a stolen firearm charge. The remaining two charges were dropped and the rapper faces sentencing in June. Prior to making his rap debut, Pablo served six years of a 14-year jail bid for armed robbery. In 2001, he released his debut album, Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry, and saw the LP’s single “Raise Up” peak at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Three years later in 2004, he once again rose to prominence thanks to his hit single “Freek-a-Leek” (#7 on the Hot 100) from his sophomore album Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry. That same year, Pablo appeared on R&B singer Ciara’s breakout single “Goodies.” He reappeared with a meager hit in “Show Me the Money,” a song from the soundtrack to the 2006 film “Step Up,” but Pablo has made little to no musical noise since.

Omar Broadway Talks Shooting HBO Documentary From His Prison Cell

Filmmaker and brother of Lil Wayne videographer DJ Scoob Doo tells Mixtape Daily he wanted to show what’s really ‘going on inside.’ By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Omar Broadway has managed to make the cable series “Lockup Raw” and “Locked Up Abroad” look like sitcoms. While serving out a 10-year sentence at Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey, the filmmaker and former inmate shot the deplorable and chaotic conditions he was living in. No easy task considering what he was doing was illegal. “My relationship with several officers allowed a camera to fall into my lap and record how we were living back there, how life was in a gang unit,” Omar told Mixtape Daily. “We just managed not to get caught with the camera.” Using a Panasonic PV-GS12, Omar secretly documented his life behind bars over a 14-month span. Originally, he planned to use the footage as a bargaining tool for an early release but instead he worked the material into “An Omar Broadway Film,” which was picked up by HBO Documentaries and screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. The documentary is a raw and uncut look at prison life without any sanitization for television audiences or prison officials. “I feel the world really needs to see what’s going on inside of the country’s many prisons because people see what they see through the [National Geographics] and the Discovery Channels,” Omar said. “But they’re authorized productions with people coming in, a lot of stuff is contrived and it’s not a natural look at what’s going on with everybody knowing that a camera is there and you not being able to act out in certain ways. Because it’s an authorized production, the officer isn’t going to say and do certain things off the top.” Omar also revealed that the DVD of “An Omar Broadway Film” is coming soon, as well as a sequel. The Jersey native is actually the biological brother of DJ Scoob Doo, Lil Wayne’s videographer and director of the “Nino Brown” DVD series. After a recent trip to Africa, Scoob was back taping the rapper on the I Am Still Music Tour this week. And Omar shares his sibling’s enthusiasm for hip-hop music. “Lyrically, a lot of artists are stepping it up all around the board,” he said. “A lot of artists: Wayne, Drake, Em, Jay, Kanye. The South is where it’s at, really.” Now a free man, and with his brother by his side, Omar said, “If someone can make a film from the confines of a cell, regardless of a recession, you have no excuse when you live in the land of milk and honey.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .

Nicki Minaj Wants To Get Audience ‘Riled Up’ On Lil Wayne Tour

‘At the end of the day, it’s hip-hop. Let’s not get that misconstrued or anything,’ Pink Friday star says. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj performs during the I Am Music 2011 tour opener in Providence, Rhode Island Wednesday Photo: Getty Images Don’t get it twisted: Nicki Minaj is an MC first and foremost, she says. Forget the theatrics, ’cause when she gets onstage, she wants to pump energy into the crowd. And to do that, she goes back to her roots. “You always want to start the show and get everybody riled up,” she told MTV News during the kickoff to Lil Wayne’s I Am Music II Tour . “At the end of the day, it’s hip-hop. Let’s not get that misconstrued or anything. People see the way I’m dressed and forget what I’m really doing. Why I’m really here is ’cause I write my raps. Why I’m really here is because I’m an MC. Why I’m really here is because I can go toe-to-toe with dudes. So we want to start the show off saying, Yep, this is Nicki Minaj and this is what I do.” And the Pink Friday star certainly does do those things. She arrived onstage Wednesday night with a booming introduction courtesy of the film “Gladiator.” From there, she launched into a spirited rendition of her Lil’ Kim dis track, “Roman’s Revenge.” Later on, she moved on to her pop fare, including “Your Love” and “Right Thru Me.” But the Queens rapper said she wanted to start the proceedings off by reminding everyone of the artist she was when Lil Wayne first discovered her rapping on a DVD. When we spoke to Wayne about signing Minaj, he told us how she developed into an artist who can hold her own. “I can’t front, I just thought she was going to be the new female MC that none of these other female MCs can touch,” Wayne told MTV News about Nicki . “But now, she’s blossomed into a megastar with this new attitude and this style. Now when I talk to her, I just tell her, ‘Do what you do, baby.’ I used to be able to go into the studio and say, ‘Nah, don’t say that, don’t say that.’ You know, ‘That was better.’ Now, do what you do, baby. I don’t have a clue about what you’re doing right now, but it’s working, do it.” Related Videos Watch Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj And Birdman On This Week’s ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists Nicki Minaj Lil Wayne
