Nicki Minaj Wants To Get Audience ‘Riled Up’ On Lil Wayne Tour

‘At the end of the day, it’s hip-hop. Let’s not get that misconstrued or anything,’ Pink Friday star says. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj performs during the I Am Music 2011 tour opener in Providence, Rhode Island Wednesday Photo: Getty Images Don’t get it twisted: Nicki Minaj is an MC first and foremost, she says. Forget the theatrics, ’cause when she gets onstage, she wants to pump energy into the crowd. And to do that, she goes back to her roots. “You always want to start the show and get everybody riled up,” she told MTV News during the kickoff to Lil Wayne’s I Am Music II Tour . “At the end of the day, it’s hip-hop. Let’s not get that misconstrued or anything. People see the way I’m dressed and forget what I’m really doing. Why I’m really here is ’cause I write my raps. Why I’m really here is because I’m an MC. Why I’m really here is because I can go toe-to-toe with dudes. So we want to start the show off saying, Yep, this is Nicki Minaj and this is what I do.” And the Pink Friday star certainly does do those things. She arrived onstage Wednesday night with a booming introduction courtesy of the film “Gladiator.” From there, she launched into a spirited rendition of her Lil’ Kim dis track, “Roman’s Revenge.” Later on, she moved on to her pop fare, including “Your Love” and “Right Thru Me.” But the Queens rapper said she wanted to start the proceedings off by reminding everyone of the artist she was when Lil Wayne first discovered her rapping on a DVD. When we spoke to Wayne about signing Minaj, he told us how she developed into an artist who can hold her own. “I can’t front, I just thought she was going to be the new female MC that none of these other female MCs can touch,” Wayne told MTV News about Nicki . “But now, she’s blossomed into a megastar with this new attitude and this style. Now when I talk to her, I just tell her, ‘Do what you do, baby.’ I used to be able to go into the studio and say, ‘Nah, don’t say that, don’t say that.’ You know, ‘That was better.’ Now, do what you do, baby. I don’t have a clue about what you’re doing right now, but it’s working, do it.” Related Videos Watch Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj And Birdman On This Week’s ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists Nicki Minaj Lil Wayne

DVD: The Humor (and Angst) of Peanuts Lives On in Its First Two Films

Charles Schulz’s landmark comic strip Peanuts has occupied a unique niche in American pop culture. It’s part of a medium often aimed at children, and its cast is a group of kids under the age of 10, doing normal child-like activities like playing baseball, going to school, and ice skating. But these kids also talk about Beethoven, theology, and The Brothers Karamazov . They throw around words like “depressed” and “neurotic,” and one of them puts up a “Psychiatric Help” stand instead of selling lemonade. The strip balances hilarity with the fragility of life and the pain of existence, and that balance surfaces in Peanuts’ first two big-screen adventures, A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy, Come Home (both available this week as a two-disc DVD from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment).

Hilary Duff Shows Off Her Stuff

I don’t know what these are from, obviously some movie or TV show or something, but they’re shots of Hilary Duff in a killer tight dress bending over and showing off her boobs and booty so I don’t really give a crap. It doesn’t take much for me to post pictures of this girl at the best of times so put her in an outfit like this and I’m all over it. I need to find out what crappy movie this is from so I can watch this action in slow motion. It has to already be out on DVD by now. I’m speechless.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never Justin Bieber (Actor) , Miley Cyrus (Actor) , John Chu (Director)   |   Format: DVD 4,394% Sales Rank in Movies & TV: 178 (was 8,001 yesterday) Buy new: $20.99 (Visit the Movers & Shakers in Movies & TV list for authoritative information on this product’s current rank.) Review & Description Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is the inspiring, entertaining and intimate look at the life and meteoric rise of pop phenomenon Justin Bieber. From small town boy to global super-star, Never Say Never follows Justin Bieber’s journey from his early years, to his rise from break-out internet sensation to global super-star, culminating with a sold-out show at the famed Madison Square Garden. More than just a concert, Never Say Never is a captivating, cinematic event featuring all-star musical talent including, Usher, Jaden Smith, Ludacris, and more! Never underestimate the power of perseverance, social media, good hair, and a winning smile. Small town boy Justin Bieber is a young musician (16 years old at the time of this film’s release) who started out goofing around on the drums at home as a young child and posting videos on You Tube as a preteen. With the help of producer Scooter Braun, he has rocketed to the status of pop phenomenon, performing for a sold-out house at the coveted Madison Square Garden in less than two years. Part documentary, part concert video, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never combines archival home videos with live concert footage; interviews with everyone from Justin’s young single mother and his grandparents to his vocal coach “Mama Jan” Smith, pop icon and actor Usher, and producer Braun; and way too much footage of squealing, overwrought preteen female fans (the latter will likely cause one’s eyes to spontaneously roll back in one’s head and trigger a gag reflex unless one happens to be a 10- to 12-year-old girl). Showcased are Bieber’s early visits to every radio station imaginable; his life backstage, on the road, and during a rare visit with his friends back home; the determination of those around him to keep his life as normal as possible; and lots of up-close footage of his concerts. Throughout the 10 days preceding his Garden debut, guest artists like Miley Cyrus, Usher, Jaden Smith, and Boyz II Men join Bieber onstage for collaborative performances of songs including “Overboard,” “Somebody to Love,” “Never Say Never,” and “U Smile.” Bieber also deals with the stress and pain of a throat infection that causes him to cancel his first show ever and threatens to prevent him from honoring his performance date at the Garden. Finally, the day of the Madison Square Garden performance arrives and viewers are treated to a great sampling of Bieber’s powerful performance. The film does a good job of chronicling Bieber’s rise to stardom, but let’s face it, his career has spanned less than two years as of this film, so there’s not really all that much to say in a movie that lasts almost two hours. But even if you’re not a rabid Justin Bieber fan, you have to admit the kid has talent and you’ve got to respect his incredible journey. Adele Makes It Two In A Row Atop Billboard 200

Former Floetry member Marsha Ambrosius lands at #2 with solo debut. By Gil Kaufman Adele’s 21 Photo: Columbia Records Cracking the American market has always been a challenge for British acts, but U.K. soul singer Adele is making it look easy. After her second album, 21, topped the Billboard 200 chart last week, she will do it again next week, holding onto the top spot with sales just shy of 168,000. According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, sales were down 52 percent, but that was still enough to beat out the #2 album, the solo debut by former Floetry member Marsha Ambrosius , Late Nights & Early Mornings, which had a good showing thanks to 96,000 units moved. The only other newcomers in the top 10 are the latest from Irish rockers Dropkick Murphys , Going Out in Style, which comes in at #6 (43,000), and Staind singer Aaron Lewis ‘ solo effort, Town Line, which is just behind at #7 (38,000). The rest of the top 10: Mumford & Sons , Sigh No More (#3, 54,000), Justin Bieber , Never Say Never – The Remixes (#4, 53,000), NOW 37 (#5, 44,000), Bieber’s My World 2.0 (#8, 33,000), Bruno Mars , Doo-Wops & Hooligans (#9, 32,000) and Pink , Greatest Hits So Far!!! (#10, 31,000). The latest sales totals for Mumford make them the first English band since 2009 (Coldplay, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends ) to sell 1 million copies of an album in both the U.K. and U.S. One of the most notable chart climbs belongs to the left-for-dead soundtrack to the Christina Aguilera/ Cher big-screen flop “Burlesque,” which rockets up 122 spots in the wake of Aguilera’s arrest for public intoxication , the movie’s release on DVD and the announcement that Aguilera will join the judging panel of “The Voice.” Also getting a boost following its Oscar win is the soundtrack to “The Social Network” by Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross , which climbs 66 slots to #59 (9,000). Further down the line, Different Gear, Still Speeding, the debut from former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher’s new band, Beady Eye , lands at #31 on modest sales of 13,000, and Swedish singer Lykke Li ‘s second album, Wounded Rhymes, debuts at #36 (12,000). Lady Gaga still rules the singles chart on iTunes, topping the list with “Born This Way,” followed by “American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez ‘s smash dance hit “On the Floor,” Cee Lo Green ‘s “Forget You,” Rihanna ‘s “S&M,” Ke$ha ‘s “Blow” and Dr. Dre ‘s “I Need a Doctor.” The tally is rounded out with #7 hit “F—in’ Perfect” by Pink , Katy Perry ‘s “E.T.,” Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Britney Spears ‘ “Till the World Ends.” Adele continued her winning ways on the iTunes albums chart, holding down the #1 spot, followed by Ambrosius, Mumford, Luke Bryan ‘s Spring Break 3 … It’s a Shore Thing, the Murphys, Lewis, Pink, Bieber’s 2.0, Beady Eye and pre-orders for Foo Fighters ‘ Wasting Light. Look for chart debuts next week from Lupe Fiasco , Avril Lavigne , R.E.M. , Raekwon and the latest “Glee” soundtrack. Related Artists Adele

Lil’ Kim Says Says No Chance Of Junior M.A.F.I.A. Reunion

Read the original:

Lil’ Kim nixes any possibility of reuniting with her old crew. When MTV’s Sway Calloway asked if there was a chance of a reunion, Kim simply replied, “No. Next question.” In particular, Kim and fellow group member Lil Cease had a falling-out, culminating in a $6 million suit in 2005 over a Junior M.A.F.I.A. DVD, with Kim suing Cease. But what about reuniting simply on a personal level? “At this point I would say never,” stated Kim. “Only God directs my life so I can’t say if I would ever speak to him in the future. But at this point, no. I have not seen a single change and then I’ve seen a bunch of talk and a bunch of contradictions, so no.” Watch footage of the interview below:
