Help Movieline Caption The First-Look Still From Robert Pattinson’s Bel-Ami

If you’re an actor who’s contractually obligated to stay pale ‘n pasty for at least two more sparkly vampire flicks, your options for outside work are limited. You could play the most handsome World of Warcraft dork ever or you could play a turn of the century high class grifter, making his way through the cream of Parisian society. Guess which one Robert Pattinson chose?

Virulent Infection Ravages The Cast Of Glee

A malevolent virus stalks the halls of McKinley High and has already felled many of even the most hale members of the Glee club. And while it would be cool to imagine it’s some weird zombie virus (Rachel Berry was born to stalk the earth for delicious brains!), it’s actually just a nasty case of tonsillitis. Filming of their post-Super Bowl special was halted to give the poor sickies the weekend off, but will resume on Monday. For once, young Hollywood types are actually suffering from exhaustion rather than just too much blow and whiskey. It’s a Christmas miracle! [ EW ]

Jack Black, Jason Segel Rock Out To ‘Peace On Earth/ Little Drummer Boy’

‘This old chestnut was dying to be rockified,’ Black says of Bing Crosby/ David Bowie classic, now set to an animated video. By Gil Kaufman Jack Black and Jason Segel Photo: David Livingston/ Jordan Strauss/ WireImage It’s a match made in cartoon heaven. “Gulliver’s Travels” co-stars Jack Black and Jason Segel have just dropped a welcome addition to the canon of holiday staples with an animated video for their covers of “Peace on Earth” and “Little Drummer Boy.” The two-pronged holiday classic is an homage to the 1977 hookup of David Bowie and Bing Crosby, and all proceeds from sales will go to benefit Blue Star Families, a nonprofit organization that aids military families. “Peace on Earth/ Little Drummer Boy 2010” was made available exclusively on iTunes beginning Tuesday (December 7), and the 2-D animated video can be seen on CollegeHumor.com . “This old chestnut was dying to be rockified … enjoy,” Black said in a statement about why he and Segel took on the holiday staple. And he’s not kidding. Segel, who never misses a chance to show off his musical abilities in movies such as “I Love You, Man” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” hooks up with equally riff-crazy Tenacious D founder Black for a spirited take on the songs. In the old-school animated video, a glum-looking Segel comes over to visit Black at his house and laments that he’s run out of ginger for the holiday gingerbread cookies he’s baking. “Well, you’ve come to the right place,” Black chuckles. “I’ve got a ginger bushel out back … take a whole sprig!” Segel then spots a piano made out of pine logs in the corner of the living room that Black proudly proclaims to be a 100-year-old family heirloom built by his grandpa. After Segel asks if he can play, Black warns, “Tickle away … that piano’s been sprinkled with magic winter dust by Santa Claus himself. When one plays it during this joyous season, things can get pretty freakin’ awesome.” The song starts out innocently enough, with Segel gently playing the haunting melody and both men singing in harmony as the music builds to include a funky drum track and melodic countermelodies. Soon enough, though, rocking bass and guitar parts join the arrangement along with an angelic chorus, and the whole thing veers into Trans-Siberian Orchestra territory as White rips off on one of his patented metal wails. What do you think of Segel and Black’s cover of the Christmas songs? Let us know in the comments!

The Vanishing Of The Bees

Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries and a hundred other fruits and vegetables. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables. Vanishing of the Bees follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S. The film explores the struggles they face as the two friends plead their case on Capital Hill and travel across the Pacific Ocean in the quest to protect their honeybees. Filming across the US, in Europe, Australia and Asia, this documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between mankind and mother earth. As scientists puzzle over the cause, organic beekeepers indicate alternative reasons for this tragic loss. Conflicting options abound and after years of research, a definitive answer has not been found to this harrowing mystery. added by: JanforGore

M.I.A. To Drop Vicky Leekx Mixtape On New Year’s Eve

‘Layin’ bad minds to rest 2010!’ songstress tweets of upcoming project. By Mawuse Ziegbe M.I.A. Photo: Jim Dyson/ Getty Images With 2010 coming to a close, M.I.A. has already announced her plans for the new year: Flood the Web with some new music. On Friday (December 3), the electro-dance superstar tweeted that she’s going to drop a mixtape on December 31. “Vicky leekx mixtape coming new years eve!” she wrote . The indie-music luminary didn’t elaborate on the sound of the project but added that she plans to churn out a suite of tracks that will make an impact. “Layin bad minds to rest 2010!” The “Born Free” artist has been trekking across Europe on tour and is slated to be on the road until December 12, according to her MySpace page. But it appears she was able to squeeze in some studio time while ripping stages overseas. And although her politically charged lyricism and genre-smashing beats have captivated her fans, the story behind the production of her music often rivals the British star’s singular vibe. M.I.A.’s 2007 pastiche of reggae-inflected, worldly electro, Kala, reflected the global sensibility of recording pretty much everywhere on Earth other than her homebase at the time, Brooklyn, while stuck in immigration limbo. For 2010’s ///Y/ she pretty much stayed put, but still banged out the album in dramatic fashion: hunkering down in a custom-built studio beneath her home. “I built a room under the house that was kind of like a cave; you had to go down into it,” she told MTV News in July. “And then I just sort of made it as creative as possible for me — I was just sort of making the furniture and making the pictures, covered all the walls with stuff that I made, so it feels like every step of the way, I was working on the layers of this sort of environment.” Are you looking forward to M.I.A.’s mixtape? The Young Money MC already has four nominations for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards under his belt, and the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences just announced he’ll be hosting the 2011 Juno Awards. “I am beyond honored to be hosting this monumental Juno Awards in the greatest city on Earth,” Drizzy said in a statement. “I want to bring a youthful energy to the show and encourage people to be excited about what Canadian music has to offer. See you all at the show.” “Drake has made incredible strides on the national and international music scene in the past year and exemplifies the next generation of Canadian artists. We’re thrilled to have him host the 2011 Juno Awards in his hometown of Toronto,” added Melanie Berry, president and CEO of CARAS and the Juno Awards. “People are still buzzing over his performance last year on the Juno Awards, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store this time around!” The Toronto native is no stranger to the Junos, having scored four nominations and two trophies. The Thank Me Later lyricist also hit the stage alongside fellow Canadian pop export Justin Bieber at last year’s awards. However, Drizzy won’t know if he’ll have to pull double duty as both a host and award contender until February 1, when the 2011 nominations are announced. The show, which will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the awards, will air live on CTV on Sunday, March 27. News of the hosting gig comes around the same time as the announcement of Drizzy’s four Grammy nods. The singer/MC is up for Best New Artist, Best Rap Album for Thank Me Later, Best Rap Solo Performance for “Over” and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Fancy” with T.I. and Swizz Beatz.
