Daryl Easton, Card Trick Extraordinaire, Commits Suicide in Magic Castle

Daryl Easton, a magician best known for his awe-inspiring card tricks, was found dead inside Hollywood’s famed Magic Castle on Friday, according to various news outlets. He was 61 years old. The body of the entertainer was found in a closet of the popular private club, which offers upscale a dining experience and magic shows to attendees. It has been in business since 1963. A Hollywood police spokesman told the The New York Daily News that employees discovered Easton’s corpse inside a closet, wearing only his underwear. He had a bag over his head and appeared to have hanged himself. Cops have ruled the death a suicide. The Magic Castle has acknowledged Easton’s passing and paid tribute to the late magician on Facebook. “The magic community mourns the loss of one of our most beloved and talented performers and the AMA’s deepest regrets and heart-felt sympathy go out to Daryl’s family,” reads the social media statement. Continues the Facebook message, which you can rest in its entirety below: Daryl was a World Champion, first-place FISM Gold medal winning, close-up magician with over 40 years of experience in both performing and selling the finest magic in the world. Daryl performed as a headline act at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for seven years fine tuning his already encyclopedic knowledge of magic. Daryl has performed literally thousands of shows for audiences as diverse as the Witch Doctors on the South Pacific island of Vanuatu to the movers and shakers of the political world at the Presidential Ball in Washington, D.C. In what can now be confirmed sadly as his final Facebook post, Easton sent his wishes to those affected by the deadly storm that affected southern California last week. “Thinking of all our SoCal friends,” he wrote on February 18. “Stay safe in this storm! I’ll be heading down that way myself tomorrow for a week at The Magic Castle.” “Sending lots of love to the magic community tonight!” wrote magician Joel Ward on Twitter in response to this sad news. Added Jonathan Steigman: “In the magic world, Daryl was world famous, one of the top creators, teachers and performers. He also won a boatload of awards. #RIP.” Known as “The Magician’s Magician” among those in his industry, Easton invented a number of famous card tricks, such as the “Hot Shot Cut” and the “Ultimate Ambition.” View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam May he rest in peace.

When The Easton’s In The House… Are KimYe Giving Their Baby Boy “Some Direction” In His Name After All?

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Have Settled On A Baby Name Since the news first broke of KimYe expecting their second child there has been a lot of speculation over what the baby would be named. And it looks like Kim and Kanye did a good job of misleading the public by telling us North would be unique in her directional name . According to a Daily Mail exclusive : Kim Kardashian West has gone on record at least twice to deny rumors that she’ll be heading in yet another direction for baby No. 2. But Daily Mail Online exclusively can reveal that the West couple will be, indeed, naming their baby boy a direction. Sort of. ‘Easton is the chosen name. It’s confirmed that the baby boy will be called Easton,’ a close family friend said, spilling the beans. Easton West will join North West in about five months. The only location left is South, and Kim’s wasn’t big on that choice. The reality star told NPR: ‘I don’t like South West, though, because that’s like, you know, North will always, you know, be better and be more…she has a better direction.’ She went on to affirm to Shaquille O’Neal on his podcast: ‘Why just add another direction? North is the best. I don’t want to try to duplicate that with a lower direction, you know?’ Yet, in a form, she will. The family friend confirmed to Daily Mail Online that last week, the celebrity pair locked in the name ‘Easton’ so that his nursery and wardrobe can begin to be made, monograms and all. ‘Kourtney told a few girls at a Hidden Hills pool party last weekend that Kayne’s favorite name by far is ‘Easton’, a name Kim wasn’t hot on at first because Kanye liked simply ‘East’ ‘But Kim came up with Easton and, for them, history was made. ‘No doubt monogrammed baby bibs are being hand-sewn as we speak,’ the friend added. ‘Mason is already calling his auntie’s tummy Easton.’ What do you think of the name Easton? Think they’ll call him Eazy for short? Then we’ll have a Yeezy, a Norweezy and an Eazy. AKM-GSI

Bret Easton Ellis on Less Than Zero, Its Adaptation, and Its Sequel Imperial Bedrooms

Bret Easton Ellis has written six books, and all six have been optioned by Hollywood. Of those six, four were made into movies, and they run the gamut from iconic to underseen, acclaimed to lambasted. Each day this week, Ellis will tackle a different adaptation of his books for Movieline, giving his take on what worked, what didn’t, and what went on behind the scenes. As a property, Less Than Zero heralded the arrival of two major talents: Bret Easton Ellis, the young author who had written the novel while in college, and Robert Downey Jr., who co-starred in the 1987 film adaptation as the wily junkie Julian. Still, while the Marek Kanievska-directed movie had style to burn and gorgeous production design (by Barbara Ling) and cinematography (by Ed Lachman), it softened and moralized Ellis’s sex-drugs-and-violence tale by considerable amounts.
