Krauthammer on Obama’s Televised Tax Announcement: He Was Addressing Daily Kos, NYT and MoveOn

Charles Krauthammer on Monday said that when Barack Obama spoke to the nation hours ago to announce a tax extension compromise just reached with Republicans, “It was actually a speech addressed at Daily Kos, the New York Times, and MoveOn.” In Krauthammer's view expressed on Fox's “Special Report,” “This was a speech aimed at appeasing the Left which is extremely angry over this” (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Should the US be more focused on projects to improve technology and infrastructure?

Last week the Australian Parliament passed a bill to build a high-speed national broadband network. Should the US be giving serious consideration to similar plans? Are investments in technology and infastructure a worthwhile idea to boost the economy while offering benefits for citizens? added by: sgwhites

AP Reporters Try to Breathe Life Into Moribund UN Cancun Climate Conference

I do hope that Associated Press reporters Arthur Max and Charles J. Hanley are finding some recreational time while they are reporting from Cancun about what's happening at the ” United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.” The pair's bosses ought to be asking them how much real attention they are paying to the festivities since they began. For example, as far as I can tell from two reports by Mr. Max ( here and here ), he seems to have missed the opening prayer to the pagan goddess Ixchel; Ken Shepherd at NewsBusters took note of it from thousands of miles away.

Tom Friedman: Tea Party is Wrong – Americans Want Higher Taxes and More Spending

There are times when one has to think the Manhattan building that is the home of the New York Times doesn't have any windows, doesn't have any television sets, and doesn't have any doors that allow employees to venture out and actually see what's happening in America beyond the walls of 620 Eighth Avenue. Consider that after the impact the Tea Party has had on our nation's politics the past 20 months, and the historic elections that just took place on November 2, Times columnist Tom Friedman actually thinks Americans aren't interested in reducing the federal deficit but are instead yearning for higher taxes and greater government spending: read more

Ed Schultz Accuses Fox Biz Analyst of Recommending Cannibalism for Unemployed People

Ed Schultz on Tuesday falsely accused Fox Business Network contributor Charles Payne of recommending people on unemployment lines eat each other to survive. Such ironically occurred on the “Psycho Talk” segment of the “Ed Show” (videos follow with partial transcripts and commentary): read more

Robert Reich: Palin ‘Realistic Candidate’ for President, Not Clear GM Bailout Was Necessary

Former Clinton labor secretary Robert Reich made a couple of rather startling comments on ABC's “This Week” Sunday. During the Roundtable segment, the devout liberal not only defended former governor Sarah Palin as a “realistic candidate” for president, but also questioned whether or not the government bailout of GM was necessary (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Name That Party: In Iowa, With Lame Duck Raise-Granting Dem Gov, Drudge Does, Des Moines Register Doesn’t

The seemingly endless variety of “name that party” stunts has yet another wrinkle. In this case, Matt Drudge is currently linking to a Des Moines Register story (“Culver OKs state pay raises”; also saved here at host for future reference) about how outgoing Iowa Governor Chet Culver has decided to rush through union contracts granting thousands of state employees 3% raises (before considering “step” raises that occur with seniority) in each of the next two years before Republican Governor Terry Bransted takes over in January. The headline for Drudge's link is “Lame duck Dem governor in Iowa OKs $100 million in raises for state workers.” Actually, it's $100 million a year for the next two years. But the linked Register article by Jason Clayworth never identifies Culver's Democratic Party affiliation, even though he tags the governor's opposition as Republican twice in the first two paragraphs. In other words, not that it was difficult to show that Culver is a Dem , but Drudge had to figure it out and tell his readers — and we thank him for that. Here are excerpts from Clayworth's clunker: read more

Gosh, what's a bigger story — that to the extent it was ever happening at all the housing recovery “seems to have been aborted,” or that according to the government there was very little inflation in October? read more

Dear Hollywood: 5 Films in Development We Actually Want to See

Sometimes reading news about Hollywood’s development slate is almost as depressing as the front-page stories about the economy. Between a Ouija Board movie , McG’s 300 -style Christopher Columbus film and last week’s news ambush about a Flip-cam movie and a Rubiks Cube movie, it’s sometimes tempting to just stay inside and pray that The Walking Dead , 30 Rock and Boardwalk Empire keep up their quality. But don’t despair! Movieline has found five projects in development that sound potentially interesting if not downright fantastic. Check them out after the jump, and chime in with your own ideas for movies in development that Hollywood should get into theaters sooner rather than later.
