Justin Bieber, Far East Movement Drop Fist-Pumping ‘Live My Life’

The RedOne-produced party anthem is the lead single off FEM’s Dirty Bass. By Jocelyn Vena Far East Movement and Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Justin Bieber ‘s track with Far East Movement dropped Friday (February 24), a few days earlier than expected. “Live My Life,” which officially hits iTunes on Tuesday, is the lead single off FEM’s new album, Dirty Bass. It feels like Bieber is taking a page from the Usher playbook by hooking up with the dance party-minded production team. The club thumper pays homage to tracks that Usher has made with David Guetta and will.i.am, for instance. The feel-good song is grinding and a little dirty. For Bieber’s part, he sings the hook, proclaiming, “I’m gonna live my life/ No matter what/ We party tonight/ I’m gonna live, live, live my life/ I know that we gonna be all right.” He then throws in the good-old dance floor chant “woo woo woo” for good measure. “We’re thrilled to have Justin be a part of Dirty Bass, ” rapper Kev Nish told RollingStone.com about the club-busting collaboration. “Far East Movement has always focused on unexpected collaborations and mashing up musical genres, which keeps making music exciting. ‘Live My Life’ is a song we think both Far East Movement and Bieber fans will enjoy together.” The team also worked with LMFAO’s RedFoo on a remix of the swirling party track. And, in case you’re wondering how the guys in FEM know Bieber, well, apparently Snoop Dogg introduced them at an awards show last year. The track’s producer, RedOne, described the song as “a smash,” before he spoke a bit more about the song and hitting the studio with the boys. He added, “And Justin sang the chorus. It’s a really good song, and I think people are gonna dance like crazy to it.” What do you think of “Live My Life”? Leave your comment below! Very Much Alive Eddie Murphy Dies on Twitter (Again)

The current Twitter trend ” RIP Eddie Murphy ” has gripped the unwashed microblogging masses with equal parts earnest apoplexy (“Idiots on twitter, why would anyone want to trend something like that”) and predictable cheap-shottery (“Hey Eddie: ‘RIP Eddie Murphy’ is God trying to tell you something about your career.”) — not that unlike the last time Murphy “died” on Twitter . The most we can take away from this experience? Pop Culture Moment #1: Chappelle’s Show Premieres

Read more here:

On January 22, 2003 Black television changed forever. Comedian Dave Chappelle premiered his late night sketch comedy show on Comedy Central filling a void in late night television that had been vacated by the likes of “The Aresenio Hall Show” and  “In Living Color.” But Dave’s irreverent humor was in a class all its own. Fact: The Clayton Bigsby character was based on Dave’s own grandfather The D.C native’s affinity for hip-hop and fearless approach to sensitive topics made him an instant hit. Whether it was “The Racial Draft” where Tiger Woods became Black or the classic Charlie Murphy’s Truth Hollywood Stories with the late Rick James Chappelle took made sketch comedy feel like oral history. In fact, mere phrases from the show (“I’m Rick James, bitch!” ) have become ubiquitous, embedding themselves into the American lexicon. Add performances from some of hip-hops best like Kanye West, Erykah Badu and Snoop and Chappelle’s Show was must-see TV. Sales of season 1 and 2 on DVD made it one of the most successful of all time, beating out The Simpsons in 2005. Unfortunately, Chappelle would take his talents back to Ohio and Season 3 never officially materialized. Fans still pine away for the return of Chappelle to TV and Chris Rock recently hinted that the two may tour together.  In any respect we need him back. “He was the new generation Eddie Murphy,” says DJ Rob Flow , who walked away with a jar or Pomade and a pack of Newports after winning the “I Know Black People” contest on Chappelle. “Every generation has a black comedian that expresses a particular type of angle on the culture. In ’70s we had Richard Pryor. ’80s we had Eddie Murphy. He was definitely a part of hip-hop culture and he loved conscious artists. He was important to the culture for that.  He ended up really pushing the racial lines and that’s what freaked everybody out. It got really popular and he realized white people aren’t laughing with us.  That’s my theory. I think that’s why he left. But he needs to come back and finish the thought. Get white people to laugh with us, not at us.” Chappelles Show True Hollywood Stories – Rick James Pt. 1 www.comedycentral.com Buy Chappelle’s Show DVDs Black Comedy True Hollywood Story Throughout the month of February TheUrbanDaily.com will be celebrating 25 of the biggest  moments in pop culture, sponsored by Gillette .

Ricky Gervais’ Five Best Golden Globes Jokes

He might have been a bit tamer than last year’s hosting gig, but he still had quite a few zingers. By Ryan J. Downey Ricky Gervais at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: Getty Images In several interviews, Ricky Gervais made it clear that he felt a responsibility to skewer the rich and famous assembled at the Golden Globes this year. It’s not about the people in the room; it’s about the people watching at home. We are in a deep economic crisis, after all. Let’s get this in perspective: They’re the wealthiest, most privileged people in the world,” he told Esquire in a recent interview. Many of the promotional spots leading up to his return as host took this angle, as well. This year, the co-creator and co-star of the often fame-and-fortune skewering “Life’s Too Short,” “The Ricky Gervais Show,” “An Idiot Abroad,” “Extras” and both the U.K. and U.S. version of “The Office” saved most of his acerbic venom for several folks who weren’t in attendance: Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy. And a few of the jokes directed at larger targets seemed to have compliments thinly hidden in their premises: Clooney is handsome, Firth is well-loved, Portman puts family first. Hardly biting. But in fairness, Gervais promising to up the ante from his stellar performance last year is a bit like Paul McCartney promising to outdo The White Album. Some things in art and life come down to time, place, circumstance and the right convergence of events (Ricky would probably be upset if we suggested divine intervention). And while another comedic actor may have had the edgiest joke of the night (“Hello, I’m Seth Rogen, and I am currently trying to conceal a massive erection,” said while standing about a foot away from Kate Beckinsale), Gervais certainly still generated several laughs. “It’s so good having a job where you can get drunk and say what you want. And they pay you,” he said at one point during the telecast. In case you missed ’em, here are the five funniest things the massively talented Englishman had to say: 5. “Tonight you get Britain’s biggest comedian, hosting the world’s second biggest awards show on America’s third biggest network. Sorry, is it? Fourth. It’s fourth. For any of you who don’t know, the Golden Globes are just like the Oscars, but without all that esteem. The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton. A bit louder, a bit trashier, a bit drunker and more easily bought. Allegedly. Nothing’s been proved.” 4. “What’s with all the divorces? What’s going on? Arnold and Maria, J.Lo and Marc Anthony, Ashton and Demi. Kim Kardashian and some guy no one will remember. He wasn’t around long. Seventy-two days. A marriage that lasted 72 days. I’ve sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches.” 3. “Who needs the Oscars? Not me. And not Eddie Murphy. He walked out on them, and good for him. But when the man who said yes to ‘Norbit’ says no to you, you know you’re in trouble. I love Eddie Murphy. He loves dressing up, doesn’t he? Versatile. He’s versatile. No, he is. Bit of trivia for you: Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler between them played all the parts in the movie ‘The Help.’ Isn’t that brilliant. They were brilliant. I can’t believe they’re not here. Or maybe they are. They’re masters of disguise.” 2. “Justin Bieber nearly had to take a paternity test. What a waste of a test that would have been. No, he’s not the father. The only way that he could impregnate a girl was if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart’s old turkey basters.” 1. To Johnny Depp: “I want to ask you a question. And be honest. Are you on recreational drugs? I’m joking, that’s not the question. And we all know the answer. Have you seen ‘The Tourist’ yet?” Stick with MTV News for the 2012 Golden Globes winners , and don’t miss all the fashion from the Golden Globes red carpet ! Evanescence’s ‘My Heart Is Broken’: Behind The Video

Second clip from band’s self-titled album is ‘very surreal,’ frontwoman Amy Lee tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Evanescence’s Amy Lee on the set of their “My Heart Is Broken” video Photo: Matt Elias/MTV News Earlier this summer, Evanescence took over a very cramped warehouse in Brooklyn to shoot the back-to-basics video for “What You Want,” the first single from their self-titled (and subsequently chart-topping ) comeback album. For several sweaty hours, Amy Lee and company rocked and roared, performing the song in front of a jam-packed crowd of superfans, most of whom had spent the day queuing up outside, in the heat, just to be part of the production. In the end, all that perspiration was worth it: The ” What You Want ” video was definitely one of the most visceral the band has ever made, capturing both the throttling energy of their live sets and the genuine joy Ev (and their fans) were feeling after four years apart. It was a reunion — a super-charged, super-sweaty one. But now, with their return clicking on all cylinders, Evanescence are prepping the video for “My Heart Is Broken,” the second single from their album. And when MTV News caught up with Lee on the set in Los Angeles, she explained that this time, they’re not going for visceral; they’re going for ethereal. And a lot less sweltering too. “We have an air conditioner this time,” she laughed. “This is going to look a lot different. Actually, I kind of wanted it to be the opposite. The first video, for ‘What You Want,’ was very real, and this is very surreal. ” To help get that surreal feel, Lee explained that she drew inspiration from a decidedly below-the-radar source: the 1988 British fantasy/horror film “Paperhouse,” which stuck with her since she first saw it as a teen. “[It’s about] this girl, and everything that she would draw would come to life in her dreams, and she was creating this dream world for herself. And at first, it was cool, but then it’s like this nightmare,” she explained. “So I sort of thought it would apply, and be cool, to have it be this dream that you’re trapped in. So you’re in a place that, at first, is a magical world, but at the same time, you’re isolated and trapped there, and that’s the reason you want to come back to reality after a time. “We’re playing with fiber optics, and so it’s basically like I’m drawing the world around me from nothingness, and when I draw things with my hands, it’s like they actually come to life,” she continued. “So it’s a lot of fun with creating this surreal dream world, and the guys’ performance is sort of like the dream within the dream, in an abyss of darkness; it’s very cool.” Even though the “Broken” clip delves deep into fantasy, the song itself was actually inspired by a very real (and very awful) situation: sex trafficking. Which is why, Lee said, the idea of being trapped in a nightmare applies so well. A friend of the band’s had started , an organization in New York that helps rescue victims of sex trafficking. “We were having conversations with her, and I was writing at the same time,” Lee said. “And a lot of times when I write, I just sort of make up words, and something will stick, and I’ll be like, ‘Oh, that’s from my subconscious. That’s what I need to write the song about.’ And that sort of happened halfway through. I was like, ‘I think I’m writing about this thing, it’s on my heart,’ just imagining being in such a trapped place and how that might feel, so the song was actually inspired by that idea.” What are you expecting from Evanescence’s new video?
