Jesus Take The Wheel: Day 5 Of The Wildin’ Out, Chaos In Cairo Continues

Good brother Malcolm said “By any means necessary” and clearly the Egyptian people LIVE by that sh*t… Tanks guarded key government building around Cairo and the central square Saturday as protesters returned to the streets a day after massive and violent confrontations emboldened the movement demanding the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak. The Cabinet resigned in the midst of rampant looting across the sprawling city and the death toll since protests began rose to 45. Dozens of military armored personnel carriers and tanks as well as soldiers on foot deployed around a number of key government buildings in the capital, including state television and the Foreign Ministry after thousands of protesters besieged the two offices in Friday’s riots. The military was protecting important tourist and archaeological sites such as the Egyptian Museum, home to some of the country’s most treasured antiquities, as well as the Cabinet building. The pyramids on the outskirts of Cairo — Egypt’s premiere tourist site — were closed by the military to tourists. Even President Obama and Sen. John Kerry are speaking up and trying to assist President Hosni Mubarak to placate the situation as best possible. Stepping up the pressure, President Barack Obama told a news conference he called Mubarak immediately after his TV address and urged the Egyptian leader to take “concrete steps” to expand rights and refrain from violence against protesters. “The United States will continue to stand up for the rights of the Egyptian people and work with their government in pursuit of a future that is more just, more free and more hopeful,” Obama said. Sen. John Kerry, a Democrat and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland, said Saturday he believes Mubarak must address the issues that matter to the people of Egypt. “Dismissing the government doesn’t speak to some of those challenges,” he said. “I think he’s got to speak more to the real issues that people feel,” he said. “Dismissing the government doesn’t speak to some of those challenges.” Wow, wonder if people in America are ready to take it there if we don’t get our country back in shape? Egyptian Shark Attack: Jews Not Jaws?

Some conspiracy theories are so laughable that it is obvious to the intelligent reader why they should be immediately dismissed. Unfortunately, when it comes to those involving Israel, such conspiracy theories seem to take on a life of their own, driven by anti-Semitism and hatred. Conspiracy theories about Israel and the Jews are common fare in the Middle East and disseminated widely in the Arab media. From accusations that the Jews were responsible for the 9/11 terror attacks to classic anti-Semitic blood libels, the Western mainstream media have failed to report on this as an issue of Arab incitement. The latest outlandish charge to be hurled at Israel is Mossad involvement in a spate of shark attacks in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh. Israeli officials have said that the claims are too ludicrous to respond to. The Independent at least described it as a “more bizarre theory”, while Sky News' Dominic Waghorn certainly got it, saying that “Egyptian officials have plumbed new depths of pottiness with their latest Zionist conspiracy theory.” Even the BBC made sure to note that “Conspiracy theories are always popular in the Middle East, with unlikely suggestions often made that troubles in Arab countries could be caused by Mossad agents.” The Scotsman, however, threw all journalistic credibility and professionalism out of the window with a sensationalist headline and story without even suggesting that the accusation is yet another product of a febrile imagination and a society raised on anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, the story states: '' Some said sharks had been drawn to shallow waters after cattle being shipped in for last month's Islamic feast of Eid al-Adha had died and were thrown overboard. Others suggested it could have been part of a secret plot by Israel's Mossad intelligence agency. “What is being said about the Mossad throwing the deadly shark (in the sea] to hit tourism in Egypt is not out of the question, but it needs time to confirm,” South Sinai governor Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha said.'' But it gets worse from a journalistic perspective. For The Scotsman had butchered an original piece from Reuters, deliberately changing the headline and cherry-picking the contents to turn it into a story about the Mossad rather than the shark attack itself. The Reuters piece, which is not centred around the Mossad charge, and headlined “Egypt puzzled after string of Red Sea shark attacks,” mentions more realistic theories to do with the shark's behaviour and includes the paragraph: Egyptians often blame neighbouring Israel for a variety of problems such as drug and weapon smuggling, or say it supports media that seek to portray Egypt in a bad light. While it is possible to criticise Reuters for not making it more abundantly clear as to the ridiculous nature of the Mossad charge, The Scotsman's editors have revealed something far more sinister behind the direction of their version of this story. Based on previous experience, The Scotsman is likely to claim that space issues prevented republishing the full Reuters piece. The reality is, however, that the shark attacks are a major international news story that has been widely covered in the mainstream media. What The Scotsman has done is inexcusable – turning a story about a spate of shark attacks into a sensationalised story of a ludicrous Israeli plot and then giving the conspiracy theory unwarranted credibility. added by: crystalman

‘Breaking Dawn’ Casts Rami Malek As Benjamin

‘I’m thrilled,’ the ‘Pacific’ actor says of joining high-profile series. By Kara Warner Rami Malek Photo: Mark Sullivan/ WireImage Just when it seemed like things were all quiet on the “Twilight” front — save for a few updates from actress Nikki Reed and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg — “Entertainment Tonight” reports that “Pacific” star Rami Malek will be joining the “Breaking Dawn” cast as Egyptian vampire Benjamin. “I think it’s going to be great,” he told “ET.” “It’s going to be super exciting, and I’m thrilled.” In addition to “The Pacific,” Malek has appeared in various films and TV shows, most recently in the “Night at the Museum” movies as Ahkmenrah. He is also in Tom Hanks’ upcoming film “Larry Crowne.” So who is Benjamin? Fans of the books will remember him as a member of the Egyptian coven who, upon receiving word from Carlisle, comes to help Bella and the Cullens battle the Volturi. Benjamin is a young vamp blessed with the special ability of controlling the elements (

Kanye West Drops By King Tut Exhibition In Times Square

‘He said it was something he really wanted to see,’ an exhibition rep tells MTV News of ‘Ye’s visit. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kanye West (file) Photo: Dominique Charriau/WireImage With his next album on the way, Kanye West sightings have increased in recent months. Fresh off of a performance at the 2010 BET Awards, Yeezy braved legions of screaming kids and befuddled tourists in New York City’s Times Square to view the King Tut exhibition at the Discovery Times Square Exposition. “He said it was something he really wanted to see,” exhibition rep Alison Buchbinder told MTV News about West’s visit. ‘Ye was snapped checking out artifacts like the gilded coffins of Egyptian pharaohs. Buchbinder said West dropped by on June 29, which would have been two days after the Chicago MC spit his latest single “Power” atop a mountain at the BET Awards. West showed up to the museum rocking a mammoth gold chain — the same bling he sported during his awards show performance — that features a sculptural representation of the Egyptian god Horus. But it appears ‘Ye’s interest in the pharaohs exhibition might have something to do with his upcoming work. A day before his King Tut visit, the star posted several pictures of his Horus chain and pyramid ring on his KanyeWest.com website. A caption accompanying the images reads: “Horus is one of the oldest and most significant deities in the Ancient Egyptian religion, who was worshipped from at least the late Predynastic period through to Greco-Roman times. Horus served many functions in the Egyptian pantheon, most notably being the god of the Sky, god of War and god of Protection.” And West has been toying with other images of royalty in his recent work. The illustrated cover art for West’s single “Power” features the severed head of a monarch with a gilded crown impaled by a sword. Have you checked out the King Tut exhibit? Can you see why Kanye might be inspired by it? Share your thoughts in the comments! Related Artists Kanye West

Is King Tut’s Penis Missing?

Did someone sabotage the Egyptian king's mummy to hide his less-than endowed genitalia? A new report from The New Scientist presents the possibility of a anatomical conspiracy. Earlier this year, scientists speculated the cause of famed King Tutankhamen's death to be due to a bone disorder and a bad case of malaria, but just last week a group of German researchers overruled that diagnosis. Instead, they say the 19-year-old pharaoh suffered from sickle-cell anemia, a genetic abnormality in red blood cells that ultimately causes organ failure. While researching the new prognosis for The New Scientist, journalist Jo Marchant uncovered another proposed ailment of Tut's. A letter published in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that Tut could also have suffered from Antley-Bixler syndrome, a genetic mutation that yields strange physical effects, such as elongated skulls and even under-developed genitalia. (Some researchers support the theory and use artistic depictions of Tut and his relatives, often show with elongated faces, as proof.) Egypt's chief archaeologist Zahi Hawass dismisses the theory, claiming that Tut was, in fact, well-developed. However, as Marchant points out, Tut's penis is no longer attached to the body. After some digging, Marchant was able to confirm that the king's genitalia was attached to the mummy during its first unwrapping in 1922, meaning the postmortem castration likely occurred in modern times. Interestingly, Tut's penis was declared missing in 1968 until a CT scan discovered it hidden in the sand that surrounded the mummy. This evidence has lead some, including Marchant to believe that Tut's penis was swapped sometime after his body was embalmed, suggesting a conspiracy existed to save him from embarrassment of the locker room variety, even in the afterlife. added by: TimALoftis

Angelina Jolie Could Play Cleopatra In New Biopic

Producer Scott Rudin has optioned new book and is developing role for Jolie. By Adam Rosenberg Angelina Jolie Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Would you buy Angelina Jolie as the last Egyptian pharaoh? Well, you may have a chance to soon. Stacy Schiff’s book “Cleopatra: A Life” has been optioned for a film adaptation, with the mega-star in talks for the title role. Details are sparse at this point: USA Today reports that Schiff and Little, Brown publisher Michael Pietsch revealed earlier this week that producer Scott Rudin had purchased the rights to the biography, with Jolie in mind for the starring role. A follow-up call to Rudin’s office confirmed that the movie “is being developed for and with Jolie.” Cleopatra (who was of Macedonian, not Egyptian, descent) has long been a subject for film treatments, extending all the way back to the early silent era. In 1899, Georges M

A Seven Ton, 26 Foot Tall Concrete Sculpture Of An Egyptian God Installed At Denver International Airport

What is with all of the giant pagan idols that are suddenly popping up all over the United States? The latest example of this is a seven ton, 26 foot tall concrete sculpture of an Egyptian god that is being installed at Denver International Airport. The giant statue being constructed at the south end of the DIA terminal is of Anubis – the Egyptian god of death and the afterlife. So why is this being done? Well, it is apparently being put there to advertise the Denver Art Museum's King Tut exhibit that is about to open up. That exhibit will go from June 29th through January 9th, 2011. The plan is for “Anubis” to remain in place at Denver International Airport the entire duration of the exhibit. added by: Revelation1217

Egypt Pumps Poison Gas Into Gaza Tunnels, Kills 4 People

By RIZEK ABDEL JAWAD , Associated Press GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Egyptian forces pumped gas into a cross-border tunnel used to smuggle goods into the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing four Palestinians, Hamas officials said. Egypt has been under pressure to seal off the hundreds of tunnels that are a key economic lifeline for the blockaded Palestinian territory but which are also used to bring in weapons for the Islamic militant group. Israel and Egypt have kept Gaza’s official border crossings closed since Hamas seized control of the coastal strip in 2007 from forces loyal to Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who now only governs in the West Bank. A Hamas security official in charge of the tunnel area along the border said the Egyptians filled the passage with some type of crowd dispersal gas. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to give his name. The Hamas Interior Ministry later said in a statement the gas used to try to clear the tunnel was poisonous. Besides those killed, six people were injured, it said. “The Interior Ministry confirms that the citizens’ cause of death was the Egyptian security forces spraying poison gasses into one of the tunnels,” the statement said without elaborating. A doctor at a hospital in the Gaza border town of Rafah, Hamdan Abu Latifa, said the dead smugglers suffocated. An Egyptian border security official refused to comment Wednesday. Egyptian security forces have sprayed gas into tunnels before, according to Hamas officials and tunnel operators. But Wednesday’s incident was the first time people have died as a result, they said. A Hamas official demanded an explanation. “This is a terrible crime committed by Egyptian security against simple Palestinian workers who were trying to earn their daily bread,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum to The Associated Press. “It was a killing in cold blood. Hamas and all the Palestinian people condemn it strongly.” http://www.gpexaminer.com/?p=107 added by: gpexaminer
