Robert Pattinson Calls His Elephant Co-Star A ‘Full-On Method Actor’

‘She’s an incredible creature,’ RPattz tells MTV News of ‘Water for Elephants’ focal point Tai. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News Robert Pattinson has certainly had some very nice things to say about his “Water for Elephants” leading lady Reese Witherspoon, recently telling MTV News that she has a “nice energy about her.” But it’s obvious that RPattz holds a special place in his heart for another female co-star: Tai the Elephant. “She’s an incredible creature,” the 24-year-old actor said of his famous pachyderm co-star. In fact, he and Tai (Pattinson previously joked that she has “done way more movies than I have”) got incredibly close at one point. Pattinson revealed to MTV News that he actually got in Tai’s mouth, describing the moment as “the most incredible thing in the world. You’re being lifted up by her gums. … She puts just the right amount of pressure on so she isn’t hurting you. It’s so strange.” But it wasn’t just the closeness he and Tai shared on the “Water for Elephants” set that made him appreciate working with a wild animal. “The best thing is that it takes away from the mundane [parts] of the day. If you’re doing 20 takes or something, and there’s a character who’s going to be doing something totally different every time, it’s always exciting. It’s like working with a full-on method actor who’s just improvising,” Pattinson said of the experience. Still, it’s not always a day in the park working with animals, as Pattinson and Witherspoon quickly came to find out. As he recalled during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” one day on the set, his beloved Tai let loose the “most incredible fart into Reese’s face … like a hurricane. Thunderous.” Even Pattinson had his moments where Tai’s presence was a distraction. “If there’s, like, an actual moment you have to get across [emotion], and suddenly there’s, like, a trunk in your face,” Pattinson said with a laugh. Still, the actor seemed to find that the positives outweighed the negatives when it came to working with Tai and all the other “Water for Elephants” animals. “It’s incredible,” he said. “It just makes everything more interesting.” “Water for Elephants” arrives in theaters April 20. Robert Pattinson To Present At Academy Of Country Music Awards

RPattz will appear with ‘Water for Elephants’ co-star Reese Witherspoon at April 3 show. By Gil Kaufman Robert Pattinson Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Robert Pattinson isn’t following in the footsteps of fellow thespian Gwyneth Paltrow and going country. Though the “Twilight” star has dabbled in music, he’s only expected to hand out the hardware, not pick up a guitar, at the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards show in Las Vegas on April 3. According to People magazine, Pattinson will appear with his “Water for Elephants” co-star Reese Witherspoon as a presenter at the show, which will air on CBS. The onscreen couple will appear alongside hosts Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton, along with other presenters Nancy O’Dell and Ryan Seacrest. Among the performers on the broadcast will be Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown Band with James Taylor, Alabama, Ronnie Dunn, Sara Evans, Martina McBride and the Entertainer of the Year nominees: Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley and Keith Urban. Pattinson is used to sharing the stage with his “Twilight” co-star Kristen Stewart, but he seems perfectly comfortable with Nashville native Witherspoon as well. “It felt like it was kind of magical in many ways, because we were out in the desert shooting,” he said of the shoot for “Elephants” with Witherspoon . “There was nothing from the modern world around. It was a different experience for me. It wasn’t in a studio or anything.” He might also press her for tips on appealing to the country crowd, something Reese knows plenty about thanks to her Academy Award win for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line.” How do you think RPattz will do in the country-music world? Robert Pattinson Dishes On Awkward Love Scenes

‘Reese [Witherspoon] had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig,’ RPattz says of scene in ‘Water for Elephants.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News We’ve heard Robert Pattinson talk about his love scenes before. “Lot of my crack in it!” he once laughed to us about what we can expect in the upcoming drama ” Bel Ami .” And we’ve even seen photographic evidence of his honeymoon boom-boom with Kristen Stewart in December’s first installment of ” Breaking Dawn .” But when it comes to Pattinson’s amorous encounters onscreen, his fans can never get enough. It’s no surprise then that one Twitter user submitted a question during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” asking if the actor felt awkward doing love scenes with “Water for Elephants” co-star Reese Witherspoon. Awkward, no. Sick? Well, yes. “The love scene in this, I was doing it when I had a really bad cold,” Pattinson explained. “I’m not generally that awkward doing stuff apart from when I’ve got my belly coming out. But my nose is running all over the place and it was in one of the additional photography scenes, and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig.” “We were doing this really passionate love scene,” he added with a giggle. “It was really stupid. I guess I’m not that awkward anymore.” The key with any love scene, Pattinson went on to make clear, is that it has to make sense within the context of the story. You can’t just get freaky in front of the camera because someone thinks it’ll boost ticket sales. “It always depends. You’ve got to really know what you’re doing. If it’s just a sort of arbitrary love scene, it’d be quite difficult,” he said. And what of his scene with Stewart in “Breaking Dawn,” the one we got an early, feather-filled glimpse of in January? Rob hesitated before saying simply, “The one on ‘Breaking Dawn’ is pretty funny.” Check out everything we’ve got on ” Water for Elephants .” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Water For Elephants’ Clip: Robert Pattinson Plans His Getaway

In MTV-premiered sneak peek, RPattz asks Reese Witherspoon to run away with him. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson in “Water For Elephants Photo: 20th Century Fox What would you do if Robert Pattinson asked you to run away with him? That’s the question Reese Witherspoon is compelled to answer in a brand-new exclusive clip from “Water for Elephants” that we debuted during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” a 30-minute live chat with the actor on Friday (March 18). The clip comes at a point in the movie when Jacob (Pattinson) and Marlena (Witherspoon) are considering fleeing the circus in which they both work. The pair have fallen for each other, though Marlena is married to an unstable animal trainer named August (Christoph Waltz). His life at risk, Jacob is planning to jump from the circus’ train. “If we don’t get too far, there’s a hotel in Salem,” Marlena tells him. “But don’t stay longer than the night.” “Just come with me,” he says to her considerable vexation. “You think there’s nothing out there for you, but there is. You just can’t see it.” “Jacob, you don’t understand. I can’t. He’ll find me,” she tells him, referring to her husband. “Marlena, there’s a better kind of life that’s meant for you,” he answers. “Whether that life is with me or not, whether you love me or not, it doesn’t matter. But it’s got to be now.” Jacob then reaches out for her hand, offering up a smoldering look that would make Edward Cullen proud. After a few seconds of hesitation, Marlena takes his hand in hers. Wouldn’t you? What happens after that? You’ll just have to find out when the movie hits theaters April 22. Robert Pattinson Marvels At ‘Twilight’ Merchandise In His #2 MTV Moment

RPattz will debut exclusive ‘Water for Elephants’ clip and answer fan questions live Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News What else can we say about Robert Pattinson’s #2 MTV moment other than “glitter lube”? All week, we’ve been ticking off our favorite RPattz moments as we count down the hours until “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” a 30-minute conversation in which the 24-year-old actor will be answering your Twitter questions, goes live Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET. We’ve touched on our initial visit to talk to him on set in 2008 and his first trip to the Oscars the next year. Momentous occasions, all. And now, here we are: glitter lube. Allow us to explain: As “Twilight” shape-shifted from a wildly popular book series into a global box-office juggernaut, the franchise has branched out into all sorts of ancillary gear: clothing and jewelry lines, board games, bed sets, Halloween costumes, makeup, posters, dolls, lunch boxes and, well, the list goes on. And on. As in: Pillows? Really?! So when we caught up with Pattinson in the spring of 2010, while he was promoting “Eclipse,” we wanted to know if there was a piece of merchandise that truly perplexed and entertained him. “I like the glitter lube stuff. I thought that was really funny,” he said, laughing. “I was just like, ‘I did not sign that! Where is the paper?’ I think, yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s glitter — I think it’s lube.” Ever the goofball, Rob didn’t leave it there. “I’ve got a dispenser,” he joked. “I just have it on my hands. ‘Yeah, it’s nice to meet you!’ and it’s like, ‘Wow! It works!’ ” Don’t miss “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. Tune in to see RPattz introduce a new “Water for Elephants” clip, followed by a live 30-minute interview on MTV.com. Tweet questions using the hashtag #askrob to get in the conversation!
