End Of Days: Tornado Shuts Down St. Louis Airport

Another local weather emergency makes national headlines. The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado struck the airport, and it was conducting a survey of other possible tornadoes, forecaster Scott Truett told CNN. The region was receiving more rainfall Saturday. A tornado warning for the airport was issued at 7:36 p.m. Friday, about 35 minutes before the twister struck. Truett said “one parent thunderstorm” formed near Jefferson City, Missouri, on Friday and moved east toward St. Louis. The tornado that struck the airport may first have touched down in New Melle, about 30 miles to the west. About 30,000 homes in the county remained without power, and five shelters had been established. Major highways were open, but officials advised people to stay home. Searchers were going door to door in several communities. “We’re looking for the family that may be missing,” Earls told CNN. Inspections of buildings will take several days and hauling off debris will take longer. “We are doing a second door-to-door search right now,” said Bridgeton Police Chief Don Hood. So far, everyone has been accounted for and there were no reported injuries, he said. Many homes in the town were heavily damaged. Most of the city was without power and some roads were not passable, Hood told CNN. Airport officials were relieved that the severe storm Friday evening injured only a relative few passengers. Five people were taken to hospitals for minor injuries and about a dozen others were treated at the airport for cuts and scrapes after the storm struck around 8:15 p.m. Friday, said airport spokesman Jeff Lea. “It’s amazing given the number of people and the amount of damage,” he said. Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge said one terminal was in good shape and the other also will be able to provide service Sunday. A few hundred passengers were stranded, but most stayed at hotels, she said. Concourse C in the main terminal, however, will take a while to repair and carriers will have to use other locations in the airport, she said. Concourse C is used by American Airlines, Frontier, AirTran and Cape Air. A van was left hanging precariously off the edge of a terminal parking garage. A video posted on YouTube showed strong winds pushing a Southwest Airlines plane away from a walkway and passengers moving quickly away from tall windows, dark clouds moving in. Passengers were hit with flying glass and debris as winds ripped off part of the roof in the airport’s C concourse, CNN affiliate KSDK said. “All the windows were busted. … The airport looks like a war zone,” Elizabeth Rastberger, 32, told CNN’s iReport. All this stuff can’t be coincidental, man. Source

‘Scream 4’ Stars Pick Their Favorite Death Scenes

‘What freaks me out the most with all the deaths is the sound effects,’ Emma Roberts tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Courteney Cox in “Scream 4” Photo: Gemma La Mana/ Dimension Films For those of you who didn’t make it to the theater over the weekend to see “Scream 4,” stop reading now — we don’t want to spoil anything! For everyone else, MTV News thought it would be fun to find out the cast’s favorite death scenes in the new slasher pic, along with some technical insight from director Wes Craven. And because there are so many gruesome offings from which to choose, the results of our little poll are all over the map, despite some persuasive campaigning by Anthony Anderson. “I think the one that freaked me out the most, her name is Marielle in real life — Marielle’s death,” Emma Roberts said, choosing the bloody demise of Marielle Jaffe’s character, Olivia Morris. “It’s one of the first, and she’s the popular girl, but she gets massacred. Totally just done. “That, to me, was the freakiest, because she’s running around her room, and they keep stabbing her and stabbing her,” she added. “I guess what freaks me out the most with all the deaths is the sound effects. When you’re doing it, it’s like a retractable knife and there’s fake blood squirting out, but when you have that sound effect, it totally adds another level of horror to the scene.” Adam Brody’s favorite death involved the special cameos from Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin. “I thought that was one of the more surprising ones,” he said, before pointing to his co-star Anthony Anderson. “And then he’s got a fantastic, dragged-out [scene].” “Yeah, I’m going to say the black guy’s death in this movie is great,” Anderson joked. “I’m not going to say who it is, though, but the black guy’s death in this movie. NAACP Image Award contention. We’re going to go beyond Oscar and Emmy and Golden Globe; we’re going to go straight to the Image Awards.” When asked how many takes it took to get that one just right, Brody and Anderson joked that there was a lot of work to it. “I think they really worked that scene,” Anderson said. “They shot that from all kinds of angles.” “[There were] 30 cameras,” Brody added. “Yeah, 30 cameras,” Anderson agreed, continuing the joke. “And some of it was the super slo-mo stuff, so yeah, the black guy.” Interestingly enough, when we mentioned Anderson’s epic death scene to Craven, he revealed that the drawn-out aspect wasn’t originally in the script but inspired by a real-life medical emergency. “That wasn’t in the script,” Craven said. “I did it without announcing it to the studio. I was hoping that they didn’t fire me the next day,” he recalled with a chuckle. “It was written that the killer just comes in and pins him to the seat,” Craven explained. “I had seen this thing on television, this documentary about somebody being stabbed right through the head and they actually showed the X-ray … and the guy walked into the emergency room, so I thought it would be extraordinary if somebody was stabbed in the head and still be alive for a while.” The fact that Anderson was campaigning for his death scene to be named the best won over co-star David Arquette. “I do love a good Anthony Anderson death scene,” he laughed. “He was a little zombie-like. There was a moment of ‘Night of the Living Dead’ [in there].” Check out everything we’ve got on “Scream 4.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . The beef between Russell Simmons and Bill Cosby continues. The two were attendees at the recent Jackie Robinson Annual Awards dinner. Simmons wrote a post on GlobalGrind.com about their confrontation at the awards dinner that has since been deleted.  In the post, Simmons claims that Cosby refused to talk to him. “I wanted to find him to apologize,” Simmons wrote, “to tell him I was sorry about my statements and to tell him that I loved him.”  Simmons was met with animosity from the Cos who reportedly told Uncle Russ to “get the f*ck out of my face.” Spotted @ HipHopWired.com RELATED: GALLERY: Russell Simmons Goes Back To Black! Serena Williams Hits Up The Today Show… Will She Be Able To Return To Tennis?!?!

For the past eight months, Serena Williams has been fighting to get her body back on the right track. She spoke with the Today Show via satellite to give an update on what exactly she has been dealing with and also speaks on her return to tennis: She recalled that on Feb. 18, “I had a lot of swelling in my leg, which really is a tell-tale sign of an embolism, and I could not breathe.” She just thought she “wasn’t fit,” but went to the emergency room. Doctors at first, couldn’t find anything, she said. But then one ordered a CAT scan of her lungs. “That’s when they found several blood clots. They told me they had to check me in immediately or it wasn’t going to be a good result.” A week later, she walked the red carpets at Oscar parties. “I had been through so much. I really was kind of low on energy,” she said, but wanted to “do something to get my spirits up. I wasn’t doing so well mentally. … I was feeling terrible.” So she went out. And wound up in the hospital the next day, Feb. 28, because of a large hematoma in her stomach. A hematoma is a gathering of blood underneath the skin, Lauer explained. “I’m on blood thinner injections. I inject myself twice a day,” she said. “I apparently must have hit something, … so what started out as a golf ball ended up being the size of a grapefruit.” At the hospital she was told it couldn’t be drained; it had to be surgically removed. Did this all stem from her initial foot problem after stepping on glass last year? She said, “Yes, and not moving and doing as much as I normally do and flying back and forth a lot.” What are doctors telling her now? “I’m just taking it one day at a time. My lungs are fairly healthy and I’m on the road to recovering.” She said she’s still hoping to return to tennis this summer. “I want to come back and be able to do well.” A speedy but mostly a healthy recovery is what we wish for Serena Williams.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Gives Her ‘Mass Appeal,’ Experts Say

Radio programming directors say new song is getting ‘mad love’ already. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images Given the months of anticipation, it’s hard to believe that Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” would live up to expectations when it premiered. The towering, club-remix-ready anthem in support of outliers, outcasts and proud freaks of all stripes debuted on radio early Friday morning (February 11), and as with just about all things Gaga, the response was immediate. After hearing it very early Friday morning, Julie Pilat, the assistant program director and music director at Los Angeles’ KIIS FM dubbed the song a “one-listen record.” In an e-mail sent soon after the song debuted on her station (hours before the scheduled 6 a.m. ET debut on the East Coast), Pilat wrote that the song, “sounds incredible on KIIS.

Kush Chronic-les: Does The Ganja Lead To Early Schizophrenia???

These scientists nowadays will try to convince you that everything you eat, smell, and drink is going to do something crazy to you. Many studies have linked marijuana use with early onset of psychosis. The question is, does smoking marijuana cause earlier psychosis? A new review of 83 studies involving more than 22,000 participants seeks an answer. The meta-analysis found that people who smoked marijuana developed psychotic disorders an average 2.7 years earlier than people who did not use cannabis. But the review also found that people who used any illegal drug suffered psychosis two years earlier than non-users, not a large difference. While alcohol use was not associated with early onset, the studies reviewed could not rule out the influence of cigarette smoking, which is a common habit of people with psychotic disorders and those who smoke marijuana. In many of the countries from which the data was gathered, in fact, cannabis is typically smoked mixed with tobacco. The researchers argue that cigarette smoking—unlike marijuana— does not worsen hallucinations or paranoia in patients with schizophrenia, so they believe that tobacco does not account for earlier onset. Led by Mathew Large of the University of New South Wales in Australia, the authors of the new research review also focused on other factors that may have contributed to the association between pot smoking and early psychosis in previous studies. For instance, it’s known that men are both more likely to take drugs and to develop psychosis at an earlier age than women, and the preponderance of men in past studies might have contributed to the connections found. It’s also known that young people, including those who have schizophrenia, are more likely to smoke pot than older folks, so previous studies that put upper age limits on their participants could have overstated the marijuana-psychosis link. But based on the meta-analysis, researchers found that the link persisted independently of these factors. In the paper, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, they conclude that their results “provide evidence for a relationship between cannabis use and earlier onset of psychotic illness and they support the hypothesis that cannabis use plays a causal role in the development of psychosis in some patients.” We’re not sure that the kush makes you crazy, but we definitely know some folks that are crazy for the kush ! A “Lil Prostitute Positivity”: Former Madam Opens A Resthaven For Hoes

Hoes need love and shelter too… Who better to help hard-luck hookers than the Manhattan Madam herself? Kristin Davis — the onetime gubernatorial candidate and escort-service operator who calls herself the “Manhattan Madam” — tells us she plans to use her notoriety to help victims of sex trafficking. She’s starting a nonprofit called Hope House to provide shelter and social services for women in need. Before serving a four-month prison term for prostitution, Davis claims to have run the highest-grossing escort service in U.S. history, supplying call girls to the likes of Eliot Spitzer. She ran for governor last year on a platform of legalizing prostitution, pot and gambling. Because of her prominence, she says that “hundreds” of women who have suffered in the sex industry have come to her to tell their stories and seek help. To her dismay, she found there were few places to direct them. She recounts the story of a group of Ukrainian women who, she says, were lured to the U.S. as dancers through false information online, then held captive and forced into prostitution. A sympathetic client helped them escape, and they reached out to Davis. Hope House will offer women food, shelter, security and medical care, ranging from HIV testing to drug treatment and psychiatric counseling, Davis says. Her plan is to open the full-scale shelter by 2013. She says a 24-hour emergency help line, similar to suicide hotlines, should be up within the next few months. Excuse me ma’am, but you’re telling us that you’re going to open a non-profit whore “Hope” House with taxpayer money? “Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit” -Clay Davis Source
