Lady Gaga To Preview New Song At Paris Fashion Show

Gaga tweets that she’ll give a sneak peek of song Wednesday’s Thierry Mugler show. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Lady Gaga has found the perfect forum to unleash some of her new music. The singer who has made outrageous fashion a huge part of her identity tweeted on Monday that she plans to preview some material from her upcoming Born This Way album on Wednesday at a Paris fashion show by Thierry Mugler. “I’m the musical director for the MUGLER fashion show,” she told her little monsters. () “I’m remixing/previewing a record on Born This Way , tailored for the show + garments.” She did not specify which song she would be previewing. The news is the latest tease of information about the eagerly awaited album, which is due out on May 23. According to identity Women’s Wear Daily, Gaga got the gig because Mugler’s new creative director is Nicola Formichetti, the designer who came up with Gaga’s infamous “meat dress” for the MTV VMAs last year. Formichetti told WWD that Gaga will serve as musical director for one of the most anticipated debuts of Men’s Fashion Week, which runs through January 23. This isn’t the first time she’s used a Paris runway to launch new music: Gaga premiered “Bad Romance” at Alexander McQueen’s show in 2009. Gaga also tweeted photos of her two 2010 Grammys, which she said were just delivered to her house by her dad. The awards for Best Electronic/Dance Album ( The Fame ) and Best Dance Recording (“Poker Face”), immediately took up residence in an important space in the singer’s home. “Look what just arrived from last year!” she wrote. “My dad put them on the piano I studied on for 14yrs.” The 24-year-old singer is up for six Grammys at next month’s awards show, which will air on February 13, the same day she is set to release the first single from her new album. She is also performing on the program, along with Eminem, Cee Lo Green, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire and Miranda Lambert. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Slaughterhouse’s Joe Budden Explains Delay In Signing With Eminem’s Shady Records

‘Very early on, the four of us agreed that Shady would be the best place for the group to be,’ Budden says. By Paul Cantor Joe Budden Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage On the heels of the announcement on Wednesday that Eminem has signed Slaughterhouse to his Shady Records imprint, members of the group are beginning to speak out about the deal. Crooked I has already alluded to Shady giving the group a “bigger stage,” and Royce Da 5’9 summed up their collective feelings in two words: “We’re excited.” And now, in a video interview with rap website Real Talk NY on Thursday, group member Joe Budden weighed in. “This group was put together for a reason, and we had a lot of things in common,” said the Jersey City-bred MC, poised in front of a mixing console in an undisclosed recording studio. “And we were passionate about a lot of things that it just so happened that Eminem [was] just as passionate about.” According to Budden, the deal with Shady Records took “a little over a year.” Typically, recording contracts don’t take nearly that long to hammer out. He attributed the length of the process to members of Slaughterhouse already being industry veterans with separate careers, and the fact that their 2009 self-titled LP sold well, perhaps giving the group leverage in negotiating their contract. “We didn’t send a demo in,” he said. “We was four pretty much established artists that have been around for a little bit so … we put out an album that did well, that sold 85 percent of what we shipped.” Despite how long the deal took, Budden said Shady was the label Slaughterhouse wanted to align itself with ever since the group was consummated in 2008. “Very early on, the four of us agreed that Shady would be the best place for the group to be,” he said, “before our first album was finished.” In very unspecific terms, Budden mentioned Royce Da 5’9’s past relationship with Eminem being a factor in the deal getting done. The Detroit natives collaborated often in their early careers, but had a falling out in the early aughts. Royce famously warred with Eminem’s D12 crew on countless tracks over the years, until finally reconciling with Slim Shady in 2008. “It was way too much sh– that went into it,” Joe said of the Shady signing. “It was very deep.” On camera, visibly weary of talking about what may have slowed the deal down, Budden instead tried to focus on the positive. “Just the fact that Em is so passionate about the project,” he said. “It’s one thing to get a record deal, and it’s one thing to get a record deal with someone who gets it. And he gets it. So it’s something we’re all excited about and we can’t wait to get in.” Related Photos Eminem And The New Shady Records Family Related Artists Joe Budden Slaughterhouse Eminem

Taylor Swift Breaks A Heart In Her ‘Back To December’ Video

Swift ends relationship with hunky lead in the Yoann Lemoine-directed clip. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift in the “Back to December” music video Photo: Big Machine Records What happens when you break the heart of a hunky-looking dude who resembles a “Twilight” character and you regret it? Well, if you’re Taylor Swift, it snows in your straight-out-of-an-Anthropologie-catalog bedroom as you write a breakup letter for your ex-beau. That’s the basic plot for Taylor Swift’s just-released “Back to December” video . In Swift’s clip for “Mine,” her lead single off her massive album Speak Now , the singer proved that she was no longer that girl who sang about proms and cheerleaders. Instead, she sang about finding love, getting married and having a family. Here, in her darker, more somber clip (despite all the early morning sun) for “Back to December,” Swift is breaking up with someone, an image we don’t usually associate with the singer. Looking almost sultry in bedhead hair, cozy sweater and a boyfriend T-shirt, Swift looks morose as she contemplates breaking it off with her good-looking boyfriend. Shots of the singer sitting in a bathtub clothed, sitting on her kitchen counter (perhaps a nod to the “Mine” video fight scene) and sitting on her bed singing the song are intercut with those of the actor who plays Swift’s love interest driving in his car, presumably away from Swift’s suburban mansion, and sitting alone on a football field, perhaps regretting letting Swift get away so easily. The video was directed by Yoann Lemoine, who did Katy Perry’s equally dreamy, equally girly clip for “Teenage Dream.” The video ends with Swift in her snowy home while the ex-boyfriend finds her breakup letter in his coat pocket as he sits alone in the bleachers. The song is rumored to be about the demise of Swift’s relationship with “Twilight” heartthrob Taylor Lautner . It’s to be noted that the video was released on January 13 — as Swift fans know, 13 is the singer’s lucky number. Snow has also been the theme in Swift’s live performances of this song, a natural fit given that the song is about December. What do you think of Taylor Swift’s new video for “Back to December”? Lady Gaga, Cee Lo, Katy Perry To Perform At Grammys

Eminem and Arcade Fire previously announced as performers on February 13 show. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images The first slate of performers for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards were revealed Thursday morning (January 13), and the roster reads like a pop-music all-star lineup. MTV already broke the news on Wednesday that Eminem will cement one of the best professional years of his career by taking the stage on February 13 at the Staples Center, where he’s also up for 10 awards. And he’ll have plenty of chart-smashing company. Among the other nominees on the list to perform are Lady Gaga , Katy Perry, Cee Lo Green, Arcade Fire and Miranda Lambert. It will be the first Grammy performance ever for Lambert and Arcade Fire, while Cee Lo, Eminem, Gaga and Perry are making return engagements. For Eminem, the performance is the latest in a line of accomplishments tied to his career-renaissance album, Recovery, which is nominated for Album of the Year. The Detroit lyricist scored a pair of #1 singles from the album with “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna. With the most nominations for the night, he’s also likely to go home with a few more awards than he did at the 2009 Grammys, when his tepidly received Relapse snagged Best Rap Album. Eminem has already been featured in the show’s promotional campaign. A touching 30-second spot showcases Em’s musical legacy , from the loss of his friend Proof to his struggles through drug dependency and his rise back to the top of the hip-hop game. Joining him in the Grammy promo campaign on Wednesday were indie upstarts Arcade Fire, who are up for three awards for their album The Suburbs . Their “Music Is Life Is Music” ad was revealed on Wednesday, showing singer Win Butler singing passionately amid a collage of images that include a casket, a barn, roses, wedding rings and dripping chocolate bars. While 11-time Grammy winner Eminem leads the pack in nominations this year, Gaga is not far behind with six nods for The Fame Monster , while Perry and Green are each up for four, and Arcade Fire and Lambert are vying for three awards. Additional performers and presenters will be announced soon. Which Grammy performance are you most looking forward to? Talk about it in the comments! Exclusive: Eminem To Perform At The Grammys

Other performers for February 13 show will be announced Thursday. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/EM/WireImage Consider Eminem ‘s comeback complete. The superstar MC will take the stage at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards next month in Los Angeles, MTV News has learned exclusively. The Recording Academy will officially announce Em and other performers on Thursday; Pitchfork reported Wednesday (January 12) that Arcade Fire will also be performing at the awards show. The performance is the latest in a line of accomplishments for Eminem since he released Recovery, which is up for Album of the Year. The Detroit lyricist scored a pair of #1 singles from the album with “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna. Those songs helped Em earn 10 Grammy nominations . It’s quite a turnaround from his last project, Relapse. That album debuted at #1 but received mixed reviews, despite winning Best Rap Album at the 2009 Grammys. With Recovery, however, Em has returned to form. Now, he’s set to take center stage at the prestigious event. Twelve months ago, he joined Drake for the then-upstart’s “Forever” performance. But for this year’s telecast, the multiple Grammy winner will take top billing. He’s already been featured in the show’s promotional campaign . A touching 30-second spot showcases Em’s musical legacy , from the loss of his friend, fellow MC Proof, to his struggles through drug dependency and his rise back to the top of the hip-hop game. There’s no question the veteran MC will be the star of the festivities. In December, when nominations were revealed, the rapper led the pack, besting Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, who received seven and six nominations, respectively. The Grammys air Sunday, February 13, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. What song are you hoping Eminem performs at the Grammys? Let us know in the comments! ‘American Idol’ TCA Panel: Our Top Five Season 10 Discoveries

Ryan Seacrest and the newbie judges talk ‘Idol’ at Television Critics Association event, and we got the dish. By Kara Warner Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson at the 2011 TCA Tour Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images It’s hard to believe we’re just one week from the season 10 premiere of “American Idol.” Seems like just yesterday Lee DeWyze was crowned champion, Simon Cowell bid viewers a tearful goodbye and Fox took to cleaning house on the judges panel. Ellen DeGeneres left, Kara DioGuardi headed for the exit and Randy stayed. And after headline-making debate as to who would replace the newly departed judges, we learned that pop icons Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez would join Jackson. And a new era of “Idol” was born. With a nod to that new era, the “Idol” team — host Ryan Seacrest, Jackson, Lopez, Tyler and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe — appeared at the Television Critics Association’s biannual event on Tuesday to talk about the 10th season. While much of the 45-minute TCA press conference was spent discussing things we already knew (changes to the show’s format, the newbie judges’ style), we did get some scoops and narrowed them into a list of our top five favorites. J.Lo’s Glam-tastic Wardrobe Although Lopez said she won’t wear anything particularly fancy or have clothing made specifically for the show, the singer’s wardrobe will certainly be a conversation topic this season. Did you see the unique jumper she sported back in September during the official judges’ announcement? It’s a shame her footwear will be concealed behind that panel table. Steven Tyler Is the New Paula Steven Tyler will fill the wackiness void left by Paula Abdul. Yes, the Aerosmith frontman has said that he wanted to be on “Idol” because of a viewing of Lopez’s rom-com “The Backup Plan” (he savored the chance to sit next to Lopez). But Tyler’s best moment was in response to a question about whether “Idol” producers would put him on a five-second delay as a precaution for any swear-word slippage. Tyler’s answer? “F— no!” You Can Count on Randy, Dawg! In a season rife with change, we can count on veteran Randy to be the reliable, enthusiastic judge we know and love. Although he claimed he’ll bring more heat in season 10 — “A little less yo’s, a little more ‘no’s. You’ll see more hair on the Dawg.” — we’ll have to see it to believe it. ‘Idol’ Songwriters? The potential train wreck (or genius) that could ensue in allowing contestants to pen original songs will be must-see TV. Executive producer Ken Warwick was quoted saying that everyone was “pleasantly surprised” by two contestants’ efforts in that area thus far. Simon Says We will miss Simon Cowell. It’s not that we aren’t already rooting for the new panel, but no one cuts to the chase or brings delusional contestants to their knees quite like Cowell. On the fluffiest, most extravagant talent show in history, his acerbic voice of reason was sometimes the only one worth listening to. “American Idol” premieres Wednesday, January 19, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Eminem Signs Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf To Shady Records

Cashis and D-12 remain on the roster as Shady enters ‘new generation.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Eminem, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf on the March 2010 cover of XXL magazine Photo: Kai Regan/ Harris Publications Eminem is back in more ways than one. The Detroit lyricist is reviving his Shady Records company, and Wednesday (January 12) he announced the signing of two new acts: underground supergroup Slaughterhouse and upstart rapper Yelawolf . Cashis and D-12 remain on the roster, but Em made no secret of wanting to bring new life to his company. “Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse, it’s kinda phase two of Shady,” Eminem explained in a statement. “It’s the new generation of Shady Records, and as we’re trying to rebuild our label, it’s exciting for hip-hop, and with all of these forces coming together and with what everybody’s capable of on the mic, it’s gonna be fun.” The four-man Slaughterhouse collective — Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5’9″ — was in talks with Shady Records for longer than a year working on the deal. “I been answering that question for a year and change, ever since that Drake ‘Forever’ music video,” Budden told MTV News during an appearance on “RapFix Live,” citing a scene where the group stands behind Em during his verse. “It’s like, Eminem is a whole nother entity. The guy is nominated for 10 Grammys.” Southern rhyme slinger Yelawolf is backed by music industry veteran Kawan “KP” Prather, who inked an upstart T.I. to his first deal and helped Usher on the superstar’s Confessions album. “Considering where I’m from and the sh– I’ve been through, it’s hard to put into words what partnering with Shady means to me, my team at Ghet-O-Vision and my state of Alabama,” Yela said in prepared remarks. “I can tell you that when you’re willing to give your life up to see a dream through, the reward is great,” he continued. “And now that I’ve become an apprentice to one of the greatest artists in the world, my potential reaches beyond anything I ever imagined. Let’s kill this sh–.” Both acts are expected to deliver projects in the coming months. What other artists would you like to see on Shady Records? Share your ideas in the comments below! Eminem’s Grammy Ad Is About Capturing A ‘Journey’

‘We thought we [could] map these artists’ journeys,’ Recording Academy exec tells MTV News of unveiling series of promotional spots. By Hillary Crosley An image from Eminem’s ad for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards Photo: NARAS Eminem is looking back on his life in a new commercial presented by the Grammys, and MTV News was the first to premiere the clip , which chronicles the MC’s career, on Wednesday. The ad is part of the Recording Academy’s Music is Life is Music social-networking and promotional campaign leading up to the awards show next month. “The Grammys is about the celebration of music on many levels, so we thought we [could] map these artists’ journeys with all of them culminating on the Grammy stage on February 13,” said Evan Greene, chief marketing officer of the Recording Academy. “But artists aren’t the only ones with journeys: You remember your first concert, your first kiss, you remember all of these moments in your life and it’s tied to music.” Eminem’s piece debuted on all media platforms on Thursday (January 6), and the print portion of the Grammy campaign begins in two weeks. The Midwest rapper earned 10 Grammy nods , including Song and Record of the Year (for “Love the Way You Lie”) and Album of the Year (for Recovery, which is also up for Rap Album of the Year). He also scored noms for Best Rap Solo Performance (for “Not Afraid”), Pop Collaboration With Vocals (for his turn on B.o.B’s “Airplanes, Part II”) and Best Rap Song (for “Lie”). With all of those nominations under his belt, fans are hoping Slim Shady will actually perform one of his chart-topping 2010 hits during the festivities. When asked in a RapFix.MTV.com poll if they’d like to see Eminem take the Grammy stage, 93 percent of our blog readers voted yes. “He should perform ‘Going Through Changes’ with Elton John again. … It’s going to be epic!’ Emperor commented. Unfortunately, those at the Recording Academy aren’t giving any hints. “All of those conversations are going on in real time, and the show is literally being put together as we speak,” Greene told MTV News. “Very few artists have been 100 percent confirmed.” The Grammy Awards air Sunday, February 13 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
