THG Exclusive: Nicky Holender Speaks on Kendra DVD, Chris Harrison’s Strength and More

Chances are, you haven’t heard of Nicky Holender. But you’re very familiar with his client base. This personal trainer is responsible for the physiques of Kendra Wilkinson, Melanie Brown, Chris Harrison and other celebrities so famous they’ve made him sign confidentiality agreements that keep their names a secret. How does he motivate these stars? And what’s the deal behind his upcoming Kendra DVD (No, not that one !)? We spoke with the former professional soccer player today and asked him about society’s weight loss craze, among other topics… THG : What do tabloid covers hyping various celebrity’s weight loss achievements sell so well? Holender : Weight loss is a goal a lot of people strive for. The general public struggles with weight for lots of reasons, such as bad eating and inactivity. They want to know: Is it possible to get in shape? How is it possible? These stories help with that. THG : What’s your approach when meeting a new client? Holender : I give then a nutritional plan and I determine their energy expenditure. I always ask myself: How can I get their bodies in balance? For the most part, one’s body wants to remain as it is. My job is to push it someplace it doesn’t naturally want to go. THG : Is it difficult to motivate celebrities that aren’t used to being bossed around? Holender : It’s easier. Easier to motivate celebrities. Motivational factor in everyone. Most of these people have gotten to where they are in life through hard work. They know that’s expected of them with me, too, and don’t shy away from it. THG : Tell us about your upcoming Kendra workout DVD. Holender : It comes out in July and focuses on people, such as new mothers, that have been away from training for awhile. We try to make working out fun by incorporating five sports into the routines. It’s a 48-minute cardio workout that keeps the heart rate elevated at all times and burns calories. THG : Do you have any other projects in the works? Holender : Mel B. and I are coming out with an exercise product. Patent is pending, so I can’t reveal a lot about it. But it will target women’s booties. There will eventually be an accompanying DVD. THG : So, no Chris Harrison DVD then? Holender [laughs]: Funny you say that. He’s known as the host of The Bachelor and all that, but Chris is taping a talk show pilot soon and I’ll be hit fitness expert on it. He’s also a really good soccer player and one of the strongest people I train. We’d like to thank Holender for his time. You can visit nickyholender.com to find out more about this trainer. Now, go hit the gym, people!

‘Prince Of Persia’ Cast Recall Old Hollywood At Red Carpet Premiere

‘ It’s time to have a little fun,’ Jake Gyllenhaal says of being in a blockbuster epic. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Ryan Downey Jake Gyllenhaal Photo: MTV News Warm and wet conditions greeted the cast of the desert epic “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” at the red-carpet premiere of their big-budget action flick in Los Angeles. But after shooting the movie in the brain-melting heat of summertime Morocco, a little rain outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Monday night didn’t seem like a big deal to Jake Gyllenhaal and his co-stars. It wasn’t just the weather that marked a welcome change of pace for Gyllenhaal. After a series of movies geared more toward the art-house set than the blockbuster hungry masses (“Brokeback Mountain,” “Rendition,” “Brothers,” to name just a few), the 29-year-old jumped at the chance to let loose in front of the camera. “I’ve seen a lot of my peers starting to not take themselves so seriously and make really fun, big films, and I was itching to try my hand at it,” he told MTV News on the carpet. “I think maybe as I’ve gotten a little bit older, I feel like I don’t want to take myself so seriously anymore. I think before, as much as those movies mean to me, and they continue to mean to me, it’s time to have a little fun too.” Thus, Gyllenhaal became Prince Dastan , a guy who isn’t as interested in hanging out at the palace as he is getting his hands dirty out in the world. “I thought he was the perfect guy for the role for all sorts of reasons,” director Mike Newell said of his star. “I thought he had a fabulous sense of humor and he was a real anarchist under the skin. And you wanted that. The guy is not a royal prince, he’s a real worker prince. He’s a bad boy.” Filling out the cast are Gemma Arterton as Gyllenhaal’s love interest and Sir Ben Kinsley as the villain Nizam. Arterton, who just starred in “Clash of the Titans,” returns for another swords-and-sandals epic, one that she says has more in common with classic silver-screen flicks than with her earlier work. “I always loved those old Hollywood, swashbuckling movies from the ’40s — ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ — and Elizabeth Taylor is one of my icons, and I can so see her playing this role if it were 60 years ago,” the actress said. “I just love those theatrical, romantic movies.” Kinsley, a four-time Oscar-nominated legend who has dabbled in every conceivable cinematic genre, said he signed on to “Prince of Persia” for one simple reason: a quest for the unknown. “If a role surprises me, if I think, ‘Ooh, fancy thinking of me for that part,’ then I get a little buzz of excitement and it gives me the energy to learn my lines and get on the set,” he explained. Check out everything we’ve got on “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Lil Jon Says He Got Fit, Spent Time In The Clubs During Hiatus

‘I got a chance to really let my batteries recharge,’ he tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Jon in an MTV News interview on 5.3.10 Photo: MTV News Lil Jon’s long-delayed album Crunk Rock was in the works for so many years that the project evolved from a rock-leaning effort to a “lifestyle” collection featuring electro sounds, R&B and Bali funk. It’s been six years since the producer released his last album, Crunk Juice. put out in 2004 on TVT Records. Jon feuded with the label for a time but finally reached a resolution in 2008, when the company filed for bankruptcy. So what’s Lil Jon been up to all this time? “I actually am glad [the album’s] just now coming out, ’cause I got a chance to really let my batteries recharge,” Jon told MTV News. ” ‘Cause I was doing a lot of stuff, making a lot of records, doing a lot of albums and getting pulled in different directions. And you get burned out and need time to recharge and rejuvenate and come back. “So it gave me time to go out and also get in the club and just DJ again. To feel the pulse of music and people all over the world, ’cause I went all the way to Australia and to Japan and all over America, from Vegas to New York to Miami; I’m DJing every week, basically. All of that helped me to have an eye and be a little bit ahead of everyone else. ‘Cause the pulse of music is in the club. If you don’t go to the club, you can’t know where to go next or what’s gong on. I think everything helped give me time to open my eyes again.” To help kick-start his career while also maintaining his momentum on the DJ circuit, Lil Jon decided to incorporate a new emphasis on physical fitness into his routine. The rowdy personality recently hired a trainer and lost 25 pounds as a result. He’s even pushing a new sugar-free version of his Crunk Energy Drink — just don’t expect him to give up adult beverages anytime soon. “We getting older, man, so I started thinking and realizing you got to get in shape and get healthy,” he explained. ” ‘Cause we want to live longer lives. People are living longer lives, but only if you’re eating healthy and living healthy. I do a lot of drinking [still], so I was like, ‘I need to get my body right!’ ” Are you looking forward to hearing new Lil Jon music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Lil Jon

Jessica Simpson Addicted To Nicorette

Jessica Simpson has revealed she’s addicted to nicotine chewing gum – but has never smoked a cigarette. The 29-year-old star told Jay Leno the gum gives her the energy of three cans of Red Bull. “I am addicted to Nicorette gum, I actually spat it out and put it on my water bottle before I came out. Never in my life have I smoked.” The busty Dukes of Hazzard beauty said she started chewing the nicotine gum by accident. “The first time I ever chewed a piece of Nicorette gum one of my close friends’ mother gave it to me. I think she thought she was giving me a piece of regular gum. I was chewing it and it was like a party in my mouth. It was like fireworks and ‘Oh my god, I’m talking a million miles per hour and I love this gum and what kind of gum is this? I have to have this gum’. “It’s Nicorette and it gives me energy – it’s like drinking three Red Bulls.” We. Are. Speechless.

Sandra Bullock to Divorce Jesse James, Adopts Baby Boy!

Sandra Bullock says she has filed for divorce from Jesse James – and she has adopted a little boy from New Orleans, who she plans to raise as a single parent! The Oscar winner tells People that “I’m sad and I am scared” about divorcing her husband, although she does not reveal where the divorce petition was filed. She says she had no idea about his infidelity, exposed by Michelle “Bombshell” McGee (and Melissa Smith, and Brigittie Daguerre, and Merilee Gerth) in March. Bullock adopted a three-month old boy named Louis Bardo Bullock, who she brought home in January to raise with Jesse James, but now plans to raise solo. Of the baby, who was born in New Orleans and named after Louis Armstrong, Bullock says “He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him any other way.” “It’s like he’s always been a part of our lives.” CLOSING THE DOOR : Sandra Bullock and Jesse James are getting divorced, but when one door closes, another opens – and she’s focusing her energy on her new son! Of James, she says: “I really don’t know how our paths will intersect in the future, but the father I have known Jesse to be … is one that I hope Louis can experience one day, no matter how Jesse and I go on with our lives.” Jesse’s response: “I know in my heart I can be the best father possible to my children, and realize that this is an incredible mountain to climb. But believe the steps I have taken in the last 30 days are the foundation to making this happen.” Rehab or not, it looks like Sandra’s divorce plan is in full effect. She and Jesse, who has three children from two previous wives, have been married almost five years. Follow the jump for more on Sandra’s divorce and baby … As for her newly adopted African-American baby, Bullock told the celebrity magazine she arranged for the child to have a bris – the Jewish circumcision ceremony. She says they planned to keep the Louis adoption news to themselves until after the Oscars, and James’ children were essential in keeping the adoption a secret. Then other things came up, of course. Sandra claims she was absolutely dumbfounded when she first saw the Jesse James Nazi photo , of her soon-to-be-ex husband giving the Nazi salute, claiming: “This is not the man I married.” We should hope not! Sandra Bullock and her adorable little baby Louis . Asked if she were aware of any interest Jesse had in white supremacy or Nazism, she called the pic stupid, and said “racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, anything Nazi and a boatload of other things have no place in my life.” Bullock added, “And the man I married felt the same.”

‘American Idol’ Shania Twain Week: What Should The Top Six Sing?

We pore through Shania’s country/pop catalog to find suggestions for the finalists. By Eric Ditzian “American Idol” top 6 with Shania Twain Photo: FOX Season nine’s “American Idol” theme weeks have veered from the Rolling Stones to John Lennon and Paul McCartney to Elvis Presley to … Shania Twain ? Yes, Tuesday’s (April 27) show has poured its annual country-music week through the funnel of Twain’s songbook. Is this the weirdest theme in this history of the show? That’s a question we’re asking in a poll over on MTV’s Newsroom blog . At this point, what we can say for sure is that, for better or worse, Crystal Bowersox and her band of merry “Idol”-ers are stuck with Twain’s catalog. How familiar were they with her discography? How familiar is anyone with her discography? We confess we had to go back into the vaults to catch up with Twain’s career since her 1993 self-titled debut album. What we found was a mix of familiar hits and oodles of ’90s country tracks that have not exactly stood the test of time. The task for the top six will be to contemporize these tunes and hope Simon Cowell doesn’t slap them with his dreaded “old-fashioned” or “karaoke” labels. The pitfalls are many. And we must remember that country week is typically thought of as the show’s great equalizer, with front-runners stumbling and back-of-the-packers soaring. Last year, Adam Lambert misfired during Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” (“Absolute indulgent rubbish,” Cowell said), while Anoop Desai’s “Always on My Mind” had the Brit judge declaring, “Zero to hero!” Who will be this season’s countrified hero and zero? Here are our picks to keep the “Idol” kids going strong. Crystal Bowersox MamaSox scored a live-show home run back in March with Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee,” a cover that began softly and built to an almost country/rock denouement. She should hearken back to that performance with a slowed-down take on “No One Needs to Know,” ditching the original’s adult-contempo rockabilly heart and concentrating on a simple, acoustic intro that gives way to a soul-infused, full-band jam. As with so many songs on Tuesday, it’s going to be all about the arrangement. Lee Dewyze With his passionate take on “The Boxer,” the 24-year-old is coming off his strongest performance of the season. What was the key? Tempo. Dewyze would be wise to once again keep things … sloooow. Twain’s “(If You’re Not in It for Love) I’m Outta Here!” has got some inherent swinging energy, and if the guitar-toting Dewyze opts for a stripped-down arrangement that makes ample way for his growly vocals, he could have another winner on his hands. Siobhan Magnus Out of all the “Idol” hopefuls, we fear Siobhan might have the most trouble with a country-driven theme. Because while we’ve seen her try on many different personas this season, country crooner is one that just doesn’t seem to fit. What has worked well for Siobhan in the past is keeping things slow — see the first section of her “Paint It Black” — and cascading her energy through a dark, teen-angst filter. She should take “Forever and for Always” and its vaguely ’80s-pop feel for a leisurely stroll on the “Idol” stage. Casey James James has struggled recently when trying to go the straight-up rock route. Last week, during Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop,” he sounded like a poor man’s Huey Lewis. Listen to what we — and Kara DioGuardi — have been telling you for weeks and go acoustic, just like you did during John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” or Bryan Adams’ “Heaven.” And you know what? Take a risk at the same time. We suggest a super stripped-down (and smoldering!) cover of “You’re Still the One.” Seriously. Michael Lynche This is the week we’re hoping Big Mike decides he’s an R&B artist and not a soft indie rocker. In a weird way, we can totally see the hulking guy doing a solid R&B reworking of “From This Moment On.” Close your eyes and just listen to Twain’s version and you’ll see what we’re talking about. Aaron Kelly Oh, the many hazards for 16-year-old Kelly on this Week o’ Shania! Our gut instinct is to enumerate all the songs the kid simply must avoid on Tuesday night. But jeez, we’re not sure it matters. As many brushes with the bottom three as he’s had this season, Kelly manages to stick around the competition. Is this the week his luck runs out? And will the song he sings have any bearing whatsoever on his fate? Somehow, we doubt it. In that case, let’s have some fun. Twain’s bizarre 2007 brush with club music would be … amazing! Everybody say it together: “Ka-Ching!” What do you want the top six to sing for Shania Twain Week? Let us know in the comments! Jake Pavelka: Vote For Me on Dancing with the Stars!

Long hours. Intense pressure. No pants. Jake Pavelka can endure that. Handling the “popularity contest” that is Dancing with the Stars? He’s got issues there. “I think dancing-wise, I’ve been doing OK,” The Bachelor star said. “The thing I wasn’t really prepared for was this is a little bit of a popularity contest!” “I’ve been focusing 150 percent of my energy on learning dancing and neglecting the 25 million people who don’t know they have to vote to keep you on.” Only 150 percent, Jake? Might wanna kick it up to 175, dog. “Look at the competition,” he says , “and [Chad] Ochocinco has 800,000 people on his twitter! I have 16,000. By the way, my twitter is @JakePavelka1.” Yeah . Solid plug, J. He does raise a valid point, though many fans do vote for who they like (hence, Kate Gosselin lasted five weeks). Still, Jake feels he’s up against it. “It seems like everyone else is established in Hollywood, or they’ve walked on the moon, or run touchdowns for the Bengals. Everybody has a huge personality.” Well, the show is Dancing with the Stars , man. It’s not Dancing with Peeps From Other Reality Shows and Celebrity Gossip Tabloids So We Can Boost Ratings .
