The announcement comes on the heels of news Lee Daniels’ other FOX production Star has also been cancelled. “We are turning the final season into a large TV event — we are trying to go out guns a-blazing,” Charlie Collier, FOX executive, said about Empire ‘s last season, Deadline reports. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.” The final season won’t feature Jussie Smollett. “There’s an option to have Jussie in the series but we have no plans for that,” he said. Ratings for the hit show have been in a steady decline since the debut season. Viewership in season 4 was down to 7.45 million. Producers called the decision “difficult.” Taraji P. Henson and terrence Howard have yet to respond to the news. Each episode, Keyaira and Tarawoner tackle raw and candid discussions about traditionally taboo mom/daughter topics including sex, love, self-worth, spirituality, healing and trauma. Each episode is driven by a question, with an invitation for listeners to go out and challenge themselves to dive deep with their mamas too. “In the last couple of years, I have become aware of the privilege it is to have a mom who sees me not just as her child, but as a woman with her own hopes, fears and dreams,” Keyaira said of the project. “My goal is that these episodes will inspire other moms and their kids to get to know each other on a deeper level. I really feel where there is vulnerability, there is healing.” While Keyaira fills the discussions with modern millennial wisdom, Tarawoner serves as both an inspiration to mothers about how to be more transparent with their kids, and also as a surrogate mom for adult listeners who may find it impossible to have real talk with a mother figure. “Just be open and honest about what you’ve been through,” Tarawoner advises moms. “Talk To Your Mom” to me is about intergenerational relationship. It’s a way to communicate revelation knowledge to your offspring about your life lessons so that future generations will be able to give the perfect gift of openness to their kids,” she explains. “Being able to speak more candidly to my daughters without judgement is priceless to me. Saint Paul Public Schools Superintendent Joe Gothard promised to take aggressive action after footage was posted online of teacher Wendy Brilowski using the N-word toward her Highland Park Middle School students. Brilowski can be heard saying ” f—— n——” in the video, which the district verified as being authentic to NBC News . Another staff member tried to excuse the behavior, saying, “she’s repeating what you’re saying” after the slur was used, but the short video clip does not show any students speaking prior to the teacher’s comments. The district did not provide more detail on the context of what happened before or after the video was taken, but did confirm the incident occurred during school hours. Gothard also apologized in a video to parents, adding that foul and racist language has no place in the district. Deadline reports that the “groundbreaking, cultural phenomenon” is getting the axe once season 6 concludes, months after Jussie Smollett ‘s public ouster from the show and more. The show was created by Lee Daniels . “We are turning the final season into a large TV event, we are trying to go out guns a blazing,” Charlie Collier, head of Fox Entertainment said on the call of Empire ‘s 20-episode last round “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve,” the CEO added. The news follows the cancellation of Daniels’ other Fox led hip-hop drama, Star which was canceled after three seasons. The cancellation of Empire seems shocking as a little less than three seasons ago, it was a ratings and cultural juggernaut that established the careers of Smollett, Bryshere Gray and elevated Taraji P. Henson into even more of a household name. Due to sagging ratings and Smollett’s criminal case in Chicago over an alleged hate crime, people have soured on the show.

Partnering with VH1 and the United Negro College Fund, T.I. announced the Precious Chapman Scholarship Fund during the annual Dear Mama: A Love Letter To Mama ceremony. “My sister Precious was a single mother, who worked to make life better for her children and everyone she encountered,” he said, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution . “In the spirit of that, we are awarding a deserving student a scholarship in my sister’s name.” The site reports that this year’s $25,000 prize went to Tierani Scott, who is a single mother and junior at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas.
