Although Emily Blunt came close to being cast in two different Marvel superhero movies, it’s not until later this year that she gets her first action-type role in Rian Johnson’s time travel thriller Looper . But her turn as a gun-toting farm girl is just the beginning for Blunt: She’s currently in intense training to play a lethal soldier in Doug Liman ’s futuristic sci-fi All You Need Is Kill , opposite Tom Cruise . Set against the backdrop of an alien war, All You Need Is Kill (based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka and Yoshitoshi Abe’s Japanese graphic novel) revolves around a soldier who dies in battle only to wake up to re-live the same day over and over again – think Groundhog Day with aliens and Tom Cruise. Blunt will play Valkryie One, a highly-decorated special forces fighter who Cruise encounters while trapped in his time loop. Blunt is currently training stateside before going to London to learn fight choreography for a month ahead of an October filming date. Speaking with Movieline over the weekend at Comic-Con, where she, Johnson, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt presented footage from Looper , Blunt described her regimen for what she describes as “the most ass-kicking role I’ll probably do.” “I basically do ten workouts a week,” she said. “Two a day, five days a week – it’s hell! And I’ve cut out drinking wine, which is really sad! That’s the thing I miss most.” “But I’m going to build these guns out,” she added, flexing her biceps. “They’re coming, right? I’m like that in the mirror. I’m just flexing over and over, and John [Krasinski]’s like, ‘Holy shit!’” Why action, and why now? “Really, it’s about timing and about the right part, the right moment and the right crew of people. It’s never been that I’ve turned my nose up at doing that. This really felt like the right time to do it, and you can’t ask for a better team than Tom and Doug – Doug is such a visionary and Tom is the most accomplished action guy you can find. We sat down a few times, we had a table read and character development talks, and he’s really fantastic in the room with that stuff; he’s very collaborative and very, very professional. And he’s fun.” Audiences who are used to seeing Blunt in films like The Devil Wears Prada and The Young Victoria might not expect to see her tear through battlefields and mow down aliens alongside Cruise – and that might make the shift all the more impressive. “Doug Liman said to me, ‘I wanted to cast you because I don’t think people expect it, and there’s something a bit more lethal about that,’” Blunt recalled. Will we get to see Blunt use her newfound lethal skills Cruise at least once or twice during their time looped adventure? “I can’t say! Maybe there’s a little bit of that… maybe,” she hinted with a smile. “I’m learning martial arts now, so hopefully I have a few scenes where I can take him out.” Read more from Comic-Con 2012 and stay tuned for our Looper chat with Blunt. Florida Man Arrested For Going Crazy In McDonald’s Drive-Thru This guy just looks fawkin’ crazy: A man who apparently lost his cool at a McDonald’s drive-thru is in jail Friday for aggravated assault. Sarasota Sheriff’s deputies say John Widmann III got upset about how a man pulled into the drive-thru lane and went on a tirade pointing a gun at the man, a McDonald’s employee and a group of kids nearby. During his fit, witnesses say Widmann, 56, also threatened to kill the driver of the car during the heated exchange before driving off in a white Mercedes sedan. Deputies pulled Widmann over near Beneva Road and Guld Gate Drive and arrested him without incident. Deputies found a .38 caliber revolver and ammunition on the passenger seat. The state had issued Widmann a concealed weapons permit back in February. Francis Misantone, co-owner of The Bullet Hole firearms store, says, “I tell all my students if you take a gun out of your holster, it’s only in a grave situation, that you intend to use it. Never take it out to threaten with it.” Misantone says this road rage incident went too far and the gun owner overreacted. “If there was a show of aggressiveness, of force, if he had a bat in his hand… but there was nothing. I think the guy with the gun was too early to produce that.” He adds, “If the guy is just cursing at you, not going to hurt you, only as a last resort do you get the gun out.” Deputies charged Widmann with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improperly exhibiting a firearm. A Sarasota County judge set a $25,000 bond for the first charge and $500 for the second charge. According to the incident report, Widmann tells the deputy he was “only defending himself and that his rights were being violated, because he believed he had the right to protect himself.” Witness Merle Miller says he and a McDonald’s employee felt threatened when Widmann pulled out his gun and he says several kids were also nearby. Miller says, “Just because you have a concealed weapons permit, doesn’t mean you can put it out anytime you want.” As of Friday afternoon, Widmann was still in jail. The deputy who wrote Widmann’s incident report recommends that the state review Widmann’ s conceal weapon permit and consider pulling it after Thursday’s arrest. Source

‘I don’t really be having those controversies like that, man. It’s just that the more hotter you get, they start talkin’,’ MC tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Meek Mill on “RapFix Live” Photo: More money, more problems; that’s the only conclusion that Meek Mill can come to when pondering why he has been the subject of so many rumors lately. After news broke of the June 14 New York City brawl between Drake’s and Chris Brown’s entourages, Meek’s name swirled in reports. From the start, the Maybach Music MC insisted that he had nothing to do with the incident that left a number of people injured. When he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday (June 27), Meek continued to steer clear of the controversy. “I don’t really be having those controversies like that, man. It’s just that the more hotter you get, they start talkin’,” Mill said. Meek seemed to be taken aback by the amount of negative press he’s been receiving. In the weeks leading up to the infamous melee, many blog sites reported that Chris Brown, Drake and the Philadelphia MC were sending subliminal tweets to one another in a beef over Brown’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna. When all three ended up in the same club on June 14, a brawl definitely broke out, but the cause still remains unknown. It is widely speculated that the fight began over Rihanna, whom Drake and Meek had both been romantically linked to. The brawl has made headlines all over the world and the “I’ma Boss” spitter has noticed his name being dropped in media outlets that normally wouldn’t cover him. “People fight in the club every week, I just be there. The name’s gettin’ a little bigger, I guess they startin’ to mention me now,” he said, distancing himself from any of the drama. “I’ve never been mentioned on none of those blogs or none of those shows or whatever, but things must be goin’ well over there.” As far as his rumored Twitter beef with Brown, Meek warns fans not to believe everything they read. “Twitter don’t count in real life, I tweet anything,” he said. “I try not disrespect nobody on Twitter, no artists or anybody, period.” In an interview with XXL, Meek said that he didn’t see Chris or Drake throw a bottle, but he did tell “RapFix Live” that he reached out to both of the stars following the fracas. “I hollered at Chris Brown immediately, I talked to Drake immediately,” he said. “I don’t be on no negative vibes, man. … We blessed, we get money, we rich and leave it at that.” Related Videos ‘RapFix’ Gets ‘Made’ With Rick Ross And MMG Related Artists Meek Mill Chris Brown Drake
‘It’s sort of like, ‘Screw you … deal with it. Come with us on this journey or bye,’ ‘ Adam Levine says of the album’s pop leanings. By James Montgomery Maroon 5’s James Valentine and Adam Levine Photo: The first thing you’ll probably notice about Maroon 5’s Overexposed album is the lengthy list of collaborators attached to it: a Murderer’s Row of pop hitmakers like Ryan Tedder, Shellback and Benny Blanco, with Max Martin helming it all as executive producer. The second thing you’ll probably notice is that it’s called Overexposed. Because, reinvigorated by the worldwide success of their hit “Moves Like Jagger” — which marked the first time the band had written with outside sources (in this case Blanco and Shellback) — M5 make no bones about the fact that, this time out, they’re aiming to become the most popular, inescapable and, yes, overexposed band on the planet. “The title is kind of pre-emptively saying, ‘Hey, we’re overexposed. Deal with it,’ ” frontman Adam Levine told MTV News during the premiere of M5’s new “One More Night” video . “Bands like to do this thing where they’re like, ‘Oh, man, we just didn’t know. Oh my God, it’s so crazy, we just wrote this song,’ and that’s true, but we like that. We want to have that experience, we want to have hits, we want to have songs that, internationally, people are going to know. “It’s exciting when you go to a country you’ve never been to, when you go to Jakarta, and they’re singing the lyrics to ‘Payphone,’ it’s so cool, ” he continued. “And that’s something that we not only love, but we pursue, unabashedly. Our sense of purpose was very dialed in. … We knew what we wanted, we knew in our minds how to achieve it on an album … and I think we found it.” And, in a lot of ways, it’s fitting that Overexposed (in stores now) comes exactly 10 years after the release of Maroon 5’s debut disc, Songs About Jane. Because ever since that album, they’ve been hearing complaints from fans who want them to return to their roots. The difference now is that they no longer listen to those complaints. Backed by the biggest names in the pop business, Maroon 5 are going for greatness these days, and like it or not, they’re not going to change course anytime soon. ” Songs About Jane was alienating a certain amount of our fanbase back then, and if we’re not alienating a small percentage of our fanbase every time we make a record, we’re doing something wrong,” Levine said. “And usually, I find that people who complain about wanting that original sound would be the same people where, if you had a record that sounded like the first one, they would say, ‘Why don’t you guys branch out and change a little bit?’ So it’s sort of like, ‘Screw you … deal with it. Come with us on this journey or bye!’ “When you’ve been in a band for a decade, even longer, you start thinking, ‘OK, well maybe now we should explore this or change things up,’ because you don’t want to have it sound formulaic or too much like what you’ve always done,” he continued. “So we’re totally cool with kind of being born again. … At the heart of it, it still sounds like us, but we embrace this side of our band, and now that we’ve fully captured it on this record, we’re going to see what happens, and I think it’s going to be really positive.” Stick with MTV News for more from our exclusive interview with Maroon 5!
