Florence And The Machine ‘Unplugged’ To Premiere Sunday On MTV

Band’s stripped-back set will also be available as a live album available digitally at midnight on April 9. By James Montgomery Florence and the Machine Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Back in December, Florence and the Machine stripped things down for a taping of MTV’s venerable “Unplugged” series. Not surprisingly, this presented a rather unique set of difficulties for the usually raucous band, though not the kind you’d expect. “It’s such a huge thing, and it was so intimate, and I really enjoy doing things stripped back and having the strings and the choir. It was really wonderful,” Florence Welch told MTV News. “But what to say in between? I got so bashful. I was so grateful to be there, and I was trying to express that, and it just went into this weird, stilted speech. It ended up with me trying to talk but not saying any words…. Singing is fine. Talking, not so much. ” Then again, we suspect Welch is just being modest. On Sunday, April 8, Florence and the Machine fans will get to witness every intimate moment of the band’s “Unplugged” performance and decide for themselves, beginning with the premiere at 11 p.m. ET on MTV and Unplugged.MTV.com . (Machine-heads in Europe, Latin America and Asia can watch at FlorenceandtheMachine.MTV.com .) Then, at midnight on April 9, the Florence and the Machine: MTV Unplugged album will be released via iTunes. The album hits physical retailers on Tuesday, April 10. “I genuinely hope they don’t include my talking,” Welch laughed. Sorry, Flo, but there’s going to be a bit of your between-song banter. Of course, there’s also going to be no shortage of amazing performances in the 10-song set, including stirring takes on her hits “Dog Days Are Over,” “Shake It Out” and “Cosmic Love,” plus a pair of covers: “Try a Little Tenderness” and “Jackson” (with guest vocals by Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme). Judging from that list of songs, you’d think the “Unplugged” taping was a well-rehearsed affair. But as Welch explained, nothing could be further from the truth. “We kind of winged it. I felt really comfortable; I’m kind of in my element in that environment, when you’re able to really play, ” she said. “The thing I don’t enjoy about TV performances is that I have to sing live to a backing track, because most times they can’t afford to mic up the whole band, so you have to sing to something that’s just going to keep going, with or without you. And performing in a stripped-back sense, with a band that’s playing around you? It’s so organic and there’s so much freedom to it.” Welch’s “Unplugged” performance has already earned rave reviews from one very prominent guest: Kanye West, who was front-and-center for the taping and made his approval known from the very get-go. “He was dancing and really going for it in the front row — it was amazing,” Welch said. “At awards shows you can’t really see anyone, because there’s lights and they’re kind of far away, but for this, it was just like Kanye was just there. I covered ‘Try a Little Tenderness,’ and he’d just sampled that for the Watch the Throne album, so I was like, ‘Um, hi … you kind of got there before me, but I’m going to do this now, and it’s kind of for you.’ He was smiling the whole way through, and I think he’s a total genius, so to have him there was really incredible.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Florence And The Machine Related Artists Florence + the Machine

Katy Perry and Baptiste Giabiconi: Twitpic Love!

Katy Perry and rumored rebound beau Baptiste Giabiconi have been playing it coy as far as the romance rumors go … but here they are in a cute Twitpic! The hunk personally Tweeted a picture of the duo cuddling up this past weekend. “@katyperry hey my #littlekats u look So amazing in this pics!:)” he wrote. Aww. The duo has become inseparable as Perry makes her way around Europe this week, with Baptiste Giabiconi, a model and aspiring singer, fielding equal measures of abuse and encouragement over his rumored dalliance with Katy. No official confirmation about their relationship status, of course. She’s not one for the celebrity gossip . Good ol’ Bapts did actually clarify one matter, however. “Sorry i m not gay!” he wrote in response to a follower asking if he was. Yeah. And that’s probably the closest thing to a response we can expect from either.

Carice van Houten Titties in Intruders of the Day

This movie was released in Spain in October….but it’s only hitting America on March 30th, so here are some pre-theater titties in a movie… Carie van Houten is some 35 year old Dutch actor…who chose not to live in Hollywood but stay in Europe because she, like me love the Dutch…from legal drugs, to legal prostitution….to a country that doesn’t occupy kitchen garbage like the Kardashians….the Netherlands is the way to go…… More importantly, you haven’t lived until you’ve had a dutch speaking chick whisper “stick it in my ass you worthless, poor, piece of shit my husband would hate knowing I’ve let inside me, but that I did anyway cuz I was drunk and he’s an asshole, and you happened to be in the right place and the right time”….while fucking her unprotected. It’s a life changing exprience you may like so much you want to tattoo it on your face like it is tattooed on your brain.

Gareth Evans on Remaking The Raid — and The Raid 2’s 4-On-1 Car Fight

This week at SXSW Movieline caught up with director Gareth Evans, whose Indonesian martial arts actioner The Raid: Redemption is set to knock your socks off later this month courtesy of Sony Classics. (Haven’t heard of the martial arts form silat? You will, come March 23.) With his film steadily collecting kudos left and right, Evans is already thinking ahead to his Raid sequel (working title: Berandal ), and an insane, dangerous-sounding four-on-one car fight he plans on working into the mix. First up, though, is the U.S. remake currently in the works at Screen Gems. The original film worked with the unique (and relatively new to most audiences) martial arts form silat , employed dynamically in a fairly basic setup: A SWAT team trapped inside a tenement building locked down by a vicious gangster must fight their way out. The American remake will build on the elements of The Raid , with Evans on hand as executive producer and Raid stars/fight choreographers Iko Uwais (who plays hero Rama) and Yayan Ruhian (who steals scenes as the sadistic Mad Dog) working on the remake’s fight choreography. “There will be elements of silat in there, which is kind of cool because there’s a respect for the original,” Evans said. “And I’m curious because the thing is yes, silat is an Indonesian martial art, but it’s practiced all over the world. There are schools of silat in London, there are schools of silat in America, there are schools of silat in France, and they have international championships as well. So there are a lot of people that know silat around the world, so it’s not a far-fetched idea that someone in America could know silat, the same way that it’s not far-fetched for a guy in America to know kung fu or muy thai.” While screenwriter Brad Inglesby has been recruited to script the remake, a director has yet to be found. Whoever it is, Evans isn’t worried about passing the reins to another filmmaker’s vision. “For me it’s like this: the storyline and the central concept is streamlined,” he explained. “It’s a very straightforward action film. So there’s room for improvement, and I think that director, whoever it is, has to be given the kind of creative freedom to push it in whatever direction he wants to push it and not have somebody standing over his shoulder saying, ‘You can’t do this, or you can’t do that.’ I think it should be that person’s decision.” After his Raid promotional tour is done, Evans will turn to pre-production on the sequel, with plans to begin filming next January. But how do you follow a film that’s already packed with non-stop, relentless, wall-to-wall, inventive action? “By going in a slightly different direction,” he teased. “If I try to replicate and copy it’ll fall on its ass, so I want to do something kind of different. We’re going to take the story out now and go onto the streets. So everything that was scary about that building and about that boss is small fry compared to the gangs we meet in the sequel — now we meet the people who let him have that building. And we expand the world out, we explore certain characters that were kind of hinted at in this but not expanded upon, and we ramp up some of the set pieces as well.” Evans’s Raid films will always retain their focus on silat, only showcased within different environments. Like, for example, the limited confines of a moving automobile. “We’ll have one fight scene,” Evans said, “a four-on-one fight inside of a car, and Iko’s going to be kicking people out through the windows, and it’s going to be nuts. What we’re doing now is we have to figure out how to shoot that without killing anyone. “Once we get that sorted,” he continued with a laugh, “then we’ll start shooting that.” Read more from SXSW here . WATCH: Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman in HBO’s Hemingway & Gelhorn

I’m not quite sold on Clive Owen as Ernest Hemingway, Nicole Kidman as his war-correspondent third wife, Martha Gellhorn, or the sumptuous look of director Philip Kaufman’s take on war-torn WWII-era Europe, but here’s your first look at the May “epic motion picture event” Hemingway & Gellhorn . It immediately calls to mind Kaufman’s Henry & June , what with the tempestuous mid-century literary marriage and famous faces playing historical figures — David Straithairn as John Dos Passos! Lars Ulrich as Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens?? — but the trailer never lets you forget you’re watching Big Time Movie Stars, which is kind of the problem. Thoughts? [ HBO ]

The Bachelor’s Kacie Boguskie on Selling Out Courtney Robertson: Had to Be Done!

Kacie Boguskie did what she (or the producers) had to do. That’s how she explains traveling all the way to Switzerland just to “warn” Ben Flajnik about Courtney Robertson on last week’s episode of The Bachelor . With Southern charm, bright eyes and a big heart, it was easy to see why so many people fell in love with Kacie B. and were rooting for her over Court. Alas, Ben was not one of those people. Speaking with reporters about her hometown date gone awry, her trip to Europe and if she thinks Ben Flajnik and his fiancee will last, she had this to say: On her elimination : “I definitely didn’t think it was me. When it got down to one rose, I thought that Nicki would be going home. I was shocked.” On why she went to Switzerland after getting axed : “Initially, I was not going there in search of a second chance. I really wanted closure.” “I had to make my peace about Courtney, because I care. Of course, there was a little part of me that hoped he’d be like, “I made a mistake. Stay.” On why she cares so much about Courtney : “I have a problem with somebody who has two sides, because I don’t know which is really you.” “She was manipulating – I’m not sure who she manipulated more, us or him.” On whether her hometown date sent Ben running for the hills : “As much as I’d like to think Tennessee and California aren’t that different, they are.” “He wanted to live with whoever he [picked], and he owns a winery, so those are two things in his life that don’t line up with my parents’ views.” “If whoever I’m with doesn’t mesh [with my family], that causes problems.” On whether he should pick Lindzi Cox or Courtney Robertson : “I’m Team Lindzi. I love Lindzi, but it seems like he and Courtney get along great.” “At the end of the day, it’s what makes him happy. If they are a great couple, who are we to judge? If they are meant to be together, they should be.” On her own romantic status update : “Still single. Watching has helped me get over it. I’m in a great place and ready to see who I meet next.” Who do you think Ben should choose on the March 12 finale?
