This isn't the first time she's experienced big issues with her mental health — far from it. The Beginning Catelynn has dealt with depression and anxiety for as long as she’s been famous — which makes sense, given her childhood. Her mother, April, was an emotionally abusive addict, and when Catelynn made the difficult decision to place her baby for adoption, she received nothing but criticism and ridicule from nearly everyone in her life. 2. Moving Forward In the years after giving birth that first time around, Catelynn tried to improve herself, but again, her mother was just unbelievably horrible towards her. Like, remember when she went shopping for her prom dress and her mom told her she looked ugly and called her a bitch? Things like that leave scars, no joke. 3. A NEW Beginning After several years together, Catelynn and Tyler welcomed their daughter, adorable little Nova, in January of 2015. It was a beautiful time, since they’d obviously struggled so much with the decision to place Carly for adoption. 4. Postpartum Depression Unfortunately, Catelynn developed a particularly devastating case of postpartum depression after having Nova — and as we saw on Teen Mom OG, it nearly destroyed her. 5. Hard Times It took over a year for Catelynn to seek help with her depression. In that time, we saw her barely able to get out of bed or get off the couch, and it seemed like her relationship with Tyler suffered for it. 6. More Alaskan Bush People is on the way! Alaskan Bush People ‘s grim hiatus exists for a very good reason, but fans of the series and of the Brown family are about to get a reprieve. But we’re not talking about Season 8 filming. Not just yet. The Browns are coming back with an Alaskan Bush People Christmas special. But … will it involve Ami? That’s kind of the opposite of “roughing it.” (But it’s not actually surprising — Ami Brown’s chemotherapy can’t happen in the wilderness, and they’ve been making money for seven seasons of a reality series) TV Insider reports that this year’s “Bushmas” special features nearly the entire Brown family, and that is has already filmed. This is exciting news! … Mostly. (Honestly, “Bushmas” as a name is a mistake … it sounds less like a wholesome family special and more like particularly festive pubic hair) There’s been no formal announcement of a new season, and we probably won’t know about that until Ami Brown’s battle with terminal lung cancer is resolved. But the “Bushmas” special will air on December 15th. The Brown’s have done Christmas episodes before, but this will be a standalone special. It will be in Colorado. And … will it involve Ami? Like we said, the report doesn’t guarantee that every Brown will be there. And Alaskan Bush People is famous for its recycled footage, so there’s bound to be some of that. But Ami Brown was photographed in Colorado recently. Billy Brown ignited a firestorm of controversy by prominently displaying his preferred brand of cigarettes in his pocket while his wife dies of lung cancer. That sort of overshadowed questions of why Ami was there. Now it seems likely that Ami was there. We just hope that this “Bushmas” and the actual Christmas that follows won’t be her last. Patricia Spann and Misty Spann got married. They're also mother and daughter. You would think that a story about a mother and daughter who married each other wouldn't get any more bonkers than it already is. But in this case, their super creepy marriage is only part of the story, as you'll see in the video below. According to records, 42-year-old Patricia Spann married 25-year-old Misty Velvet Dawn Spann last year. Misty is Patricia's daughter. So it's super gross already. The details, however, make this even weirder than you'd think. First of all, though they were allowed to marry, their marriage isn't legal because Oklahoma law definitely doesn't allow you to marry your kids. Maybe the two most important things for you to know about these two are: Misty is the one who turned her mother (and herself) in, and has been sentenced to 10 years of probation after entering a guilty plea. (Under state law, felony incest can result in a lengthy prison sentence) The other thing that you need to know? Misty isn't even the first of Patricia's children whom Patricia's married. Patricia had previously married her son, Jody Spann Jr, in 2008. That marriage was annulled in 2010. Would you care to guess why? Patricia was the birth mother of both of them, but lost custody of them when they were young. Only in adulthood were they reunited. Now, Patricia said that her relationship with Jody Spann Jr was in order to prevent him from being deployed. (We have no idea what kind of ridiculous logic is behind that, as members of the military with spouses are deployed all of the time) With Misty, Patricia found another reason to marry her child — an alleged desire to adopt. One, that sounds horrifying as she had already proven so unfit that her natural-born children were taken away. Two, anybody's who thinks that marrying their child makes them a better candidate for adoption does not need to be caring for so much as a houseplant. Three, police don't buy that as Patricia's motive, and believe that she may have been trying to defraud the state into giving her more benefits. By the way, Cody Spann — the son whom she didn't marry — has been vocal and public about his disgust at Patricia, and believes that she forced Misty into it. Whatever you might think about Daenerys and Jon Snow hooking up on Game of Thrones , we all hopefully understand that real-life incest is almost never like that. In the case of Patricia Spann, it sounds like these marriages are also a means to an end … but there may be real elements of that genetic attraction scenario at play, even if they might be one-sided. Patricia's trial isn't until January, but it's likely that they'll dig into records to see how she may have used her marriages for financial gain. And you can bet that her now annulled marriage to her son is going to come up. This story is sensational, but a good reminder of a couple of things: No matter how we feel about relationships in Game of Thrones or other fiction, we shouldn't romanticize incest.
