Rebecca Black’s Film Debut Sunday Comes Afterwards: A Musical Armageddon

Already sick of next year’s April Fools’ Day? Renew your faith with this Funny or Die preview for Rebecca Black’s “Friday” film adaptation, Sunday Comes Afterwards , which sounds like a delightful Tennessee Williams tale. Unfortunately, it’s an apocalyptic thriller. The lack of Auto-Tune during Rebecca’s triumphant call of “I don’t want this world to ennnnnd ” is a cinematic touchstone for the ages.

‘Spider-Man’ Musical Going Through ‘Trial By Fire,’ Julie Taymor Says

‘I am in the crucible right now,’ Tony-winning director told TED2011 conference. By Terri Schwartz “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” Photo: Don Emmert/ AFP To say “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” has had its share of problems is to say “Avatar” was fairly successful or “The Twilight Saga” is moderately popular. It seems that anything that could possibly have gone wrong with the show has. There have been delays , injuries , bad reviews , script issues and actors leaving , and all before the show has officially opened. Fortunately, the preview shows are selling out across the board, but the musical is struggling and director Julie Taymor knows it. The Tony-winning director hasn’t made a public statement about the problems in production since aerialist and stunt double Christopher Tierney was severely injured back in December. But during the TED2011 conference in Long Beach, California, on Wednesday, Taymor discussed the current state of the musical with an audience of more than 1,000 people. “I am in the crucible right now. It is my trial by fire. It’s my company’s trial by fire. We have survived because our theme song is ‘Rise Above,’ ” Taymor said, according to The New York Times . “Anyone who creates knows — when it’s not quite there. Where it hasn’t quite become the phoenix or the burnt char. And I am right there,” she added. At the moment, the show runners are deciding whether to continue with the planned March 15 opening or delay the musical for a sixth time. Lead actress T.V. Carpio talked to MTV News about the constant changes going on behind the scenes of the show and how she refuses to give in to the negative thoughts pressing on “Turn Off the Dark” from the outside. Both she and Taymor seem to feel that the musical is on the precipice of greatness, and they have the faith to continue on until it reaches that goal. “It’s right there in the palm of my hands,” Taymor said. “In all of my company’s hands. I have beautiful collaborators. We as collaborators only get there all together. I know you understand that. You stay there going forward and you see this extraordinary thing right in front of your eyes.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Rumored ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Star Marion Cotillard Praises Christopher Nolan

The French actress, who reportedly is set to accept a role in Nolan’s upcoming ‘Batman’ flick, calls the writer/director ‘a very, very smart guy.’ By Eric Ditzian Marion Cotillard Photo: Dominique Charriau/ Getty Images Another week, another report of an “Inception” star potentially joining Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” Tom Hardy has already signed on to the project, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly in talks and now it seems Marion Cotillard is in discussions to accept a role, as well. In addition to their shared screen credits, the three actors have at least one more thing in common: a whole lot of love for Nolan. Hardy has previously told us that working with the writer/director was akin to being “swept up on this carpet of love,” while Gordon-Levitt has called Nolan “a genuine artist” and “a master.” Cotillard, too, has spoken effusively about her experience with Nolan, so it’s no surprise that she might sign on for what is widely thought to be his third and final “Batman” film. “The guy is so interesting,” she told us back in June of 2009, shortly before production on “Inception” began. “He writes his own scripts. He seems to be, from what I saw and what I read, so rich inside. He’s got so many things to say and share and he’s a very, very smart guy. You really can feel it in his writing.” As he did on “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” Nolan is sharing screenwriting duties on the new film. He also earned an Oscar nod for his “Memento” script a decade ago and is nominated again this year for his writing on “Inception.” While Cotillard confessed to us that she didn’t exactly understand everything in “Inception” when she first read the script, the French-born actress put her faith in Nolan’s talents as a writer of uncommon depth. “Most of it really moved me and touched me, even though I didn’t get everything,” she told us last summer. “But I felt that it was something filled with so many things and that when you read a script like this, the first thing is it is Christopher Nolan’s movie. He’s a writer. I had a lot of questions, but I knew that I would have answers. “I think it’s the kind of movie that each person will have their own interpretation, and that’s a good thing because it creates conversations about it and you can share what you think,” she added. “It’s a beautiful way to gather people and share something.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Clipse’s Malice Helps Fans ‘Appreciate’ What They Have In Debut Book

‘Every time I told the story, everyone was totally amazed,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting Cristopher Schafer and Samuel Rogers Malice Photo: Samuel Rogers and Cristopher Schafer Fire Starter: Gene “Malice” Thornton Clipse’s Gene “Malice” Thornton might not be a rookie, but the MC — who has blessed us with a bevy of healthy verses over Neptunes production throughout the years — is a first-time author, readying the release of his book “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked.” Admittedly, a literary career wasn’t in the plans for the former armed forces member. But after a tumultuous period in his life that Malice said began in 2008 (he didn’t elaborate on the incidents; a year later, in 2009, longtime Clipse manager Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez was charged with leading a multimillion-dollar drug ring), he had a story that he would repeat often, and the idea for a book arose. “Every time I told the story, everyone was totally amazed,” he explained. “The story is nothing short of phenomenal. I thought I was gonna be rapping, and I still rap; I’m gonna keep making music. But I had to stop what I was doing for a minute to really get this burden off my chest. And it’s basically the vehicle that’s gonna shed light on life and it’s gonna open up the eyes of any young person that’s aspiring to be, not just in hip-hop, but music, sports, doctors, lawyers, whatever your profession is. It’s just gonna help you be focused and learn to appreciate what you already have.” As the title suggests, “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked” has a spiritual angle. Leaning on his faith, however, is nothing new, Malice said. Since the Brothers Thornton first arrived on the scene with their debut album (which was shelved by Elektra Records), their rhymes have been imbued with the Lord’s guide to living. “This thing just happened, but all of my fans know, and people who have listened to my music, they have always heard me referring to my faith, even from the first album, Exclusive Audio Footage, it gave some insight into my beliefs. I was just listening to a song form that album, I had an interlude called ‘The Prayer,’ and right after that, there’s a song called ‘Watch Over Me,’ and after I listened to that, it just confirmed who I am and who I already been. I think what happened was I strayed away from my faith and I wasn’t practicing it. I was doing what I wanted to do, whatever I felt like doing. Doing what everybody else was doing.” Now, he’s rededicated and preparing to put out his tome on Monday, Valentine’s Day. “A lot of people want more, more, more, and I think it’s just important that you stop and realize where you’re at right now and try not to take anything for granted,” he said.
