Nick Offerman Talks ‘Juicy’ ‘Parks And Recreation’ Developments

Actor who plays Ron Swanson tells MTV News that ‘the evil Tammy Two’ returns in the fall. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Nick Offerman in “Parks and Recreation” Photo: NBC As the latest season of “Parks and Recreation” rolls along, fans of the quirky NBC comedy have been rooting for the show’s leading lady, Leslie Knope, as she tries to win the hearts of the folks in Pawnee, Indiana, by running for a spot on the city council. But Leslie isn’t having all the fun. Pawnee’s resident curmudgeon, Ron Swanson (played by Nick Offerman), is finding himself caught up in an unexpected friendship with the always-optimistic government star Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe). As always, Swanson is working to make sure government doesn’t run smoothly, and of course he faces the possibility that one of his ex-wives could show up and bring their own brand of trouble to his life. “If we can help it,” Offerman told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival when asked if there would be a chance to bring back one of his character’s former wives, both named Tammy (one played by his real-life wife, Megan Mullally, and the other by Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson ). “I know that there’s one juicy story coming up in the fall for Tammy Two, the evil Tammy Two [Mullally].” But until then, Offerman, offscreen, will be wearing another hat. He recently wrote one of the show’s upcoming episodes, and in addition to some more Knope-related election excitement there will also be a shakeup in his character’s romantic life. “Oh gosh. It was so fun and exciting and crazy. The episode is called ‘Lucky.’ Leslie Knope gets this really lucky interview with sort of the Anderson Cooper of Indianapolis. But then the interview is canceled and it comes back on, and some hilarity ensues,” he explained. “Meanwhile, Ron Swanson and Chris Traeger are vying for the attentions of Andy Dwyer’s women’s studies college professor. It’s very funny.”

Octavia Spencer Wasn’t Expecting An Oscar Nomination

‘It feels like I’m eating a bunch of cake right now,’ Spencer tells MTV News about her awards-season recognition for ‘The Help.’ By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer in “The Help” Photo: Dreamworks PARK CITY, Utah — Octavia Spencer needs no “Help” when it comes to feeling the love during this awards season. Having already won a Golden Globe for her turn as sassy maid Minny Jackson in “The Help” on top of numerous other nominations, Spencer can add another notch to her increasingly impressive belt Tuesday (January 24) — because, to the surprise of precisely no one, the 41-year-old actress has earned a well-deserved Best Supporting Actress nod at this year’s Academy Awards . “I am never presumptuous, because these sorts of things are beyond our control and I didn’t want to be set up for disappointment,” Spencer said in a statement reacting to the nomination. “A lot of us actually went to dinner last night and slept over and wanted to be together when we found out, so in case we didn’t get that call we wanted to be nice and hungover.” Earlier in the week, MTV News caught up with Spencer at the Sundance Film Festival , which she attended as part of the cast of the alcohol drama “Smashed.” When asked for her views on her probable nomination, the always humble actress revealed that she wasn’t even giving the possibility any thought. “I’ve been very good about not thinking about Oscar,” she told MTV’s Josh Horowitz. “I know I’m going to the BAFTAs, and I know I’m going to the SAGs. It would be nice to go to the Oscars. “That little movie was about something that resonated with people, and it became a phenomenon,” she said of her experience with “The Help,” adding that she hopes moviegoers will embrace her new movie “Smashed” with an equal amount of passion. “Hopefully I’ll continue to get more roles like this, in extremely wonderful and very relevant films. … It feels like I’m eating a bunch of cake right now!” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Chris Rock Perplexed By Spike Lee’s Sundance Tirade

‘I just asked a normal question,’ Rock tells MTV News about what prompted the director’s passionate criticism against Hollywood. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Chris Rock Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — The old refrain of “more money, more problems” seems to apply to Spike Lee’s “Red Hook Summer,” the director’s new drama he unveiled at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. During a Q&A session following the screening of the filmmaker’s religion-focused feature, actor and comedian Chris Rock (at Sundance for his new film “2 Days in New York” from Julie Delpy) asked Lee if he would have done anything differently had he “actually gotten… studio money” for the film. Lee’s response was a fiery one, fueled with comments that condemned the Hollywood studio system for knowing “nothing about black people.” “We never went to the studios with this film. I bought a camera and said we’re gonna do this mother[bleeping] film ourselves. I didn’t need a mother[bleeping] studio telling me something about Red Hook! They know nothing about black people,” Lee said in response to Rock’s question, according to the New York Post . “And they’re gonna give me notes about what a 13-year-old black boy and girl do in Red Hook? [Bleep] no!” Lee’s response was nothing short of perplexing to Rock, who told MTV News that he “just asked a normal question.” “I just asked him how it would have been different if he’d had it financed by a studio. If he had more money,” he continued. “That was it. That’s all I said. Everything else, I don’t know. You gotta ask Spike.” In “Red Hook Summer,” Lee tells the story of a young boy sent by his mother from Atlanta to spend the summer in Red Hook, Brooklyn, with his grandfather, a strict preacher he’s never met. The film stars Clarke Peters, Jules Brown and Thomas Jefferson Byrd. Do you think Spike Lee’s criticism at Sundance out of line? Sound off in the comments section! Michelle Williams ‘So Grateful’ For Oscar Nod

‘This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime,’ the ‘My Week With Marilyn’ star says in a statement. By Jocelyn Vena Michelle Williams in “My Week With Marilyn” Photo: The Weinstein Company Michelle Williams is getting Oscar love yet again. Williams is nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for “My Week With Marilyn,” facing off against screen legends and some fresh blood. “I am so grateful to be acknowledged by the Academy for my work, which was made possible by the support of our director Simon Curtis and the camaraderie of a terrific ensemble of actors — a special congratulations to [co-star] Kenneth Branagh — and the fearless Harvey Weinstein,” she said in a statement. “This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime. I would like to think that the recognition our film has received by the Academy is a testament to Marilyn’s legacy.” The other nominees in her category are Glenn Close (“Albert Nobbs”), Viola Davis (“The Help”), Rooney Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) and Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady”). Branagh, who earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his work in “Marilyn,” was equally amped about the recognition. “It was a rare honour to play Sir Laurence Olivier,” he said in a statement. “To be recognised by the Academy for doing so is overwhelming. I’m absolutely thrilled.” Williams already won the Golden Globe for her role in the film earlier this month. This marks her third Oscar nod after previous nominations for “Blue Valentine” and “Brokeback Mountain,” though she has yet to take one home. Recently, former “Dawson’s Creek” co-star Joshua Jackson opened up about Williams’ critically lauded career . “It’s surreal, in that it would be surreal to see any of your friends [up for an Oscar]. It’s amazing. She’s an excellent actress,” he told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival . “Of all of us, when we finished that show, she was the one who had the clearest idea about what it was that she wanted to do. To be able to go out and achieve that is no small feat. I just think it’s wonderful.” See the complete list of Academy Awards Nominations . AnnaLynne McCord Laughs Off Topless Twitpic Faux Pas

‘I am going to tweet myself naked all the time,’ the ‘90210’ actress jokes to MTV News at Sundance. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Annalynne McCord Photo: MTV News Much like a plot right out of her soapy CW show, “90210,” AnnaLynne McCord made headlines when she inadvertently tweeted out a NSFW photo of herself on January 10. It quickly became clear that she took the photo at the wrong angle, exposing a bit more of herself than she had expected to. After realizing her Twitter faux pas, she laughed off the incident. “This is for you, @meganraee You Rock! Xxx,” she initially tweeted, including the nipple-baring photo. She later added, “Hahaha! Megan, you feel like sharing? Very funny I actually LOL-ed xxxA.” When MTV News had the chance to speak to McCord during her trip to the Sundance Film Festival , she had a very amusing response to the tweet. “I am going to tweet myself naked all the time. I mean I am going to be a press whore from here on out. This is awesome,” she joked about the headline-making incident. “You know what’s so crazy to me, it’s the sensationalism. I mean so disappointing, I’m sorry for everybody who thought I was going to be naked. You see more of me naked as Pauline in [‘Excision’]. “Anyone with half of a brain knows it was an accident,” she continued. “I have a very small areola and I have to get a magnifying glass to make sure that it’s not in pictures in the future. That’s the moral of the story.” McCord had a few more laughs at her own expense, adding, “The moral of the story is not to stop taking pictures of yourself naked. We all like being naked. Just make sure that the little bit of your areola isn’t in the picture before you send it to a hundred billion people.” How did AnnaLynne McCord handle her Twitter photo faux pas? ‘Breaking Bad’ Star Aaron Paul: ‘I Know How It Ends’

‘It’s going to be pretty intense,’ he promises MTV News at Sundance about the ‘Bad’ finale. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston in “Breaking Bad” Photo: AMC By now, “Breaking Bad” fans are well aware that Walter White (Bryan Cranston) is the danger. He blew the face off of an ingenious criminal drug lord in a dramatic seasons-long showdown. He secretly poisoned a little boy as a means to manipulating his on-again off-again business partner into helping him kill said drug lord. Ladies and gentlemen, make no mistake: four seasons deep, Walt has finally broken bad. With only one season remaining before “Breaking Bad” closes the meth lab for good, it’s anybody’s guess how the saga of the cancer-stricken chemistry teacher-turned-murderous meth manufacturer will ultimately resolve itself. But there is one person who claims to know how the AMC drug thriller ends: Aaron Paul, the anything-but-“Bad” actor who stars on the show as reluctant drug slinger Jesse Pinkman. “I know how it ends,” Paul told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival , where he’s promoting the release of his new movie “Smashed.” You wouldn’t think Paul would spill any further details, but he proceeded to drop a bombshell bigger than the one that took out Gus Fring . “Jesse dies,” he deadpanned. And just like Fring, our jaws dropped to the floor at the stunning revelation. But true to Pinkman’s prankster ways, Paul immediately cracked up and cleared the air. “No, no, no! He doesn’t die! Or maybe he does,” he continued ominously. “I don’t know! Actually, I have no idea what’s going to happen. But I’m excited to see [it play out].” No matter how “Breaking Bad” reaches its conclusion, it will all come to an end one way or the other, sooner rather than later. “[There are only] 16 more episodes, and then we’re done,” Paul said. “We start shooting at the end of March. I think it’s going to be a full sprint to the finish, and it’s going to be pretty intense.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Oscar 2012 Predictions: Best Actress

Viola Davis, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams should continue their streak of awards-season love at Tuesday’s announcement. By Kara Warner Michelle Williams in “My Week With Marilyn” Photo: The Weinstein Company After a fun-filled start to the 2012 awards season with the People’s Choice Awards , Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and Golden Globes , the nominations announcement for the 64th annual Academy Awards are upon us. Before Tuesday morning’s reveal, we’re making a few predictions about which lucky leading ladies will get the good news. Here are our predictions for the nominees in the Best Actress category: Viola Davis : Davis has been a shoo-in for awards-season love since early August, when audiences first experienced her critically acclaimed performance in “The Help.” Davis has already won a Critics’ Choice Movie Award and received a Globe nomination for her portrayal of sweet-natured maid Aibileen Clark; the Oscar nomination is next. Meryl Streep : At this point in her illustrious career, it’s basically a given that any year Streep makes an appearance in a film, she will be nominated. As the most-nominated actor in history, Streep has 16 Oscar nods under her belt, along with two wins, plus 26 Golden Globe nominations and eight wins — including this year’s Globe for Best Actress in a Drama. And although the reviews of her film, “The Iron Lady,” have been mixed, the praise for her performance is expectedly high. Michelle Williams : Not many of those who first met Williams via her work on teen soap “Dawson’s Creek” would have predicted that she would become one of the most talented, respected and critically acclaimed actresses of her generation, and yet, here we are. Following last year’s nominations haul for her work in “Blue Valentine,” the recent Globe winner should expect to hear her name called tomorrow. Tilda Swinton : The nominating body within the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is just as likely to recognize performances in films with mass audience appeal and success as it is to single out performers in films that push boundaries and step outside the box. Tilda Swinton is an actress who has done just that in several films, the most recent being the harrowing drama “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” for which she will surely land an Oscar nomination. Rooney Mara or Charlize Theron : Singling out a fifth nominee is a tough call given the number of strong performances by leading ladies this year. It’s a toss-up between Oscar winner Charlize Theron’s performance in the dark comedy “Young Adult” and Rooney Mara’s bold, buzz-worthy transformation into Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Winner : Viola Davis. The woman is due; just check out her r

Michelle Williams’ Awards Success ‘Surreal’ To Joshua Jackson

Former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ co-star says at Sundance that ‘My Week With Marilyn’ actress ‘had the clearest idea about what she wanted to do.’ By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michelle Williams Photo: Jeff Vespa/ WireImage PARK CITY, Utah — A lot has changed since the days of “Dawson’s Creek.” Joshua Jackson is off fighting a war between parallel universes on “Fringe.” Katie Holmes is busy trying to get her husband down from that stupid couch. James Van Der Beek is … somewhere. But perhaps the most impressive arc of the old “Dawson’s” gang belongs to Michelle Williams. Since wrapping up her role as troubled teen Jen Lindley on the WB series, Williams has racked up two Academy Award nominations, for “Brokeback Mountain” and “Blue Valentine.” Very soon, she could be looking at her third, as many onlookers consider her a lock for a Best Actress nod for her work in “My Week With Marilyn,” a role for which she’s already won a Golden Globe. Though her days on the “Creek” are long behind her, Williams’ work has not gone unnoticed by her former co-stars. MTV News spoke with “Lay the Favorite” star Jackson at the Sundance Film Festival, where he expressed his joy in seeing his old friend’s success in the awards circuit. “It’s surreal in that it would be surreal to see any of your friends [up for an Oscar],” he said. “It’s amazing. She’s an excellent actress.” Still, Jackson doesn’t sound surprised by Williams’ continued awards buzz. “Of all of us, when we finished that show, she was the one who had the clearest idea about what it was that she wanted to do,” he said. “To be able to go out and achieve that is no small feat. I just think it’s wonderful.” That said, Jackson joked that Williams must be getting a bit tired of all the attention from Oscar voters: “You think she would be bored of it by now. She has to do a guns and explosions movie. ‘Come on! Enough! Quit giving me these awards!’ ” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Tracy Morgan is Fine, Tweets Tracy Morgan: ‘Superman Ran Into a Little Kryptonite’

A day after collapsing at Sundance — prompting his swift hospitalization and his publicist’s even swifter refutation of alcohol and drug speculation — Tracy Morgan has just tweeted that he’s recovering nicely. It was just that, well… Here, he can explain. For the record, “kryptonite” is clearly a euphemism for Melissa Leo, with whom Morgan was photographed (above, with screenwriter Ron Nyswaner) at a Creative Coalition event shortly before his incident. Must… retrieve… inhaler… Superman ran into a little kryptonite. The high altitude in Utah shook up this kid from Brooklyn.
