Miley Cyrus is not engaged to Liam Hemsworth, and she simply can’t believe anyone would think otherwise… even if she did Tweet a photo of a giant ring on her finger over the weekend with no real explanation behind it. “I’m not engaged,” Cyrus Tweeted this morning. “I’ve worn this same ring on this finger since November! People just wanna find something to talk about! It’s a topaz people!” That does pretty much end the speculation, huh? Miley and Liam have been dating now for two years, however, and anonymous source do claim the pair talks about marriage someday. It will be interesting to see if the latter’s new, sky-rocketing, Hunger Games -based fame has any impact on the relationship. [Photo: WENN.com]
When Angelina Jolie signed on for the title role in Disney’s Maleficent , she did so relishing the idea of her kids seeing her as the Sleeping Beaut y villain. “It’s a really great script. I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve already got my horns fitted ,” Jolie told Entertainment Weekly on Friday. “My kids are very happy.” “It’s not anti-princess, but it’s the first time that they’re looking at this epic woman [in a different way],” she says of the new take on the fairytale classic. “You see a woman capable of being many things; just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn’t mean she can’t have other [warmer] qualities,” the leg-thrusting actress adds. “You have to figure out the puzzle of what she is.” Jolie says there are redeeming qualities to her character, despite her ruthlessness. “It sounds really crazy to say that there will be something that’s good for young girls in this, because it sounds like you’re saying they should be a villain,” Jolie says. “[Maleficent] is actually a great person. But she’s not perfect. She’s far from perfect.” The actress has already begun working with the costume department to perfect her look for the film, which begins shooting in June. “We’re experimenting with different things,” Jolie says. “But the horns are the horns – you can’t deny them. You have to have horns.”
Size Records label head packs his lineup with all-star beatsmiths like Max Vangeli, AN21 and Junior Sanchez at closing show. By Sam Hendrick and Akshay Bhansali Tim Mason performs at the Fountainbleu in Miami on Sunday Photo: MTV News MIAMI — As Miami Music Week wrapped up, MTV News went back to where it all began, heading again to the Fontainebleau on Sunday for another massive record-label showcase. Swedish House Mafia stalwart Steve Angello , joined by the brigade of ferocious all-stars that make up his Size Records, took over the same stage that deadmau5 and his Mau5trap crew owned just a day before. But while the Mau5strap set inspired fans through experimental sonic patterns, Size came with one mission in mind: To lay down banger after banger, many of them Beatport.com -charting hits produced by members of the Size team. The third edition of the always highly anticipated Size Records party featured proven beatsmiths — some EDM vets, some newcomers. Indeed, Angello presided over a staggering lineup that included Max Vangeli, AN21, Junior Sanchez, Third Party, Tim Mason, Qulinez and Wayne & Woods. Size newbies Wayne & Woods kicked off the night. The duo were followed by Qulinez, who delivered an impressive set highlighted by their smoldering bomb “Troll.” Tim Mason pleased the crowd by covering hit singles “The Moment” and “Anima”; Third Party took over from him with a strong set that featured their 2011 smash “Duel” and their newest single, “Feel.” Feeling a bit of hometown nostalgia, MTV News was excited to see the return of legendary New York house icon Junior Sanchez to the Size closing party. The Brobot boss kept the hands in the air for virtually his entire set, playing recent anthems like Otto Knows’ “Million Voices” and the Dirty South/ Usual Suspect collabo “Walking Alone.” Junior also drew smiles from the crowd with his unique blend of Jay-Z and Kanye’s “N—as in Paris” and Swedish producer Avicii’s “Levels,” a mash that was appropriately titled “N—as in Sweden.” Coming on last (but certainly not least) on the long list of talented openers were Max Vangeli and AN21, who were greeted with the energy one might expect for two of Size’s original signees. Showing no signs of nerves, the pair put on a set fit to introduce their label’s frontman. They doled out heavy party tracks like Dada Life’s “Kick out the Epic Mother—-er”. Sir Steve finally hit the decks, and partygoers at the Fontainebleau bum-rushed the stage, eager to rock out with the Size boss. And Angello obliged, unleashing track after track by tapping his SHM arsenal and much more. Fans danced in fits to Swedish House Mafia’s “Greyhound”; Michael Calfan’s “Resurrection” fused with Cold Play’s “Paradise”; and Nari & Milani “Atom,” among other hits. Angello just smiled, seemingly well aware of the euphoric chaos he was creating. Unfortunately, Angello was forced to cut his set short at around 11:30 p.m. Still, what fans will probably remember is that the Size guys came correct this year, laying down the perfect ending to Miami Music Week. We recognize the big-screen adaptation’s time constraints, but we missed these moments from the book. By Fallon Prinzivalli Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate Translating a novel into a Hollywood blockbuster is not an easy task. Since there is limited time, a lot of the juicy tidbits get lost in translation. With a book as popular as “The Hunger Games,” fan criticism lurks at every turn and the screenwriters are careful to include as many of the beloved scenes as possible. Luckily, the adaptation of the book to the big screen left this weekend’s moviegoers extremely pleased. While we are understanding of the time constraints — the movie is already over two hours — there were a few key “Hunger Games” book scenes we would have loved to see in the film. Wanna win a Hunger Games special edition HP laptop from MTV News? Click here to enter! For those of you who have yet to read the book, there are spoilers ahead. (Also, what are you waiting for?! If you enjoyed the movie, the book will fill in all the missing details.) From Haymitch’s drunken fall to District 11’s respect for Katniss to Katniss’ fight to get back to Peeta, here are our picks for the five key scenes from the book not in the movie: Haymitch Falling Offstage at the Reaping From the start of the Reaping scene with Prim stopped dead in her tracks to the end when Katniss is escorted to her holding room, the audience is left shaking in their seats. Katniss volunteering in place of Prim saw quite a few audience members already in tears too. In the novel, before Effie begins her infamous “Happy Hunger Games!” speech, there is a quick scene where Haymitch is so drunk he falls off the stage. It adds a little comic relief to his introduction, but it also sets up the mentor’s troubled state and shows the effect the Games had on him years later as a grown man. Peeta’s Father Bringing Katniss Cookies In the book, before Katniss and Peeta board the train for the Capitol, Katniss gets a surprise visitor: Peeta’s dad, the District 12 baker, brings her a plate of cookies and informs her that he’ll make sure Prim is eating. It’s a touching gesture that confuses Katniss at first. She is familiar with Mr. Mellark because he buys the squirrels she hunts in the woods, but he has no obligation to her or her family. Katniss comes to believe it is because everyone merely tolerates her but they cannot help but love innocent, friendly Prim. The scene sets the audience up for Katniss’ distrust of Peeta throughout the book. District 11 Sending Katniss Bread The District 11 uprising after Rue’s death in the movie adaptation is absent from the novel. In lieu of this scene, Katniss is sent a sponsor gift containing a loaf of bread. During their training before the Games, Peeta explained to Katniss the different types of bread in each district, and Katniss immediately recognizes the loaf as coming from District 11. In recognition of the gift, she says a thank you to the district out loud. While the movie scene shows the power Katniss already possesses against the Capitol, the book scene slowly sets up the other districts’ willingness to trust her. Katniss Telling Peeta the Story of Prim’s Goat While Katniss attempts to nurse Peeta back to health — to no avail, as his leg gets worse — a feverish Peeta asks her to tell him a story. Knowing that the Capitol and Gamemakers are listening to every word, she leaves out the details of her and Gale hunting in the woods and tells him the story of how she bought Prim’s goat, Lady. After selling a young buck at the Hob, Katniss has enough money to buy Prim a nice birthday present. She passes on a hairbrush and cloth for a dress in favor of an injured goat. Prim loves animals, and with her mother’s help, they were able to nurse Lady back to health. The milk from the goat helped the Everdeens survive after their father’s death. Katniss’ ability to open up to Peeta adds to the love-triangle dynamic. The more Katniss reveals about herself to Peeta, the more she starts to care for him and vice versa, whereas Gale was around to experience these moments with her. Katniss Screaming for Peeta After the Games One of the more powerful scenes in the book comes when Katniss and Peeta are airlifted out of the arena and onto a hover craft. Katniss sees Peeta being taken away, but at the time, she is unaware of the reason. As they are separated, Katniss begins pounding on a glass door while screaming Peeta’s name. While the audience is left to wonder whether Katniss is really in love with Peeta, this scene shows that, regardless of whether it was all an act, she cares about him. Later on, this scene is replayed in front of the Capitol during an interview with Caesar Flickerman and shows that the star-crossed-lovers act just might save her life — at least for now. In a milestone of human civilization right up there with landing on the moon and eating 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes , James Cameron reached the deepest point on the planet on Sunday — the Mariana Trench, nearly seven miles below the surface of the Pacific. Naturally, upon reaching bottom, he did what any record-setting blockbuster deep-sea diver would do: Tweeted. Just arrived at the ocean’s deepest pt. Hitting bottom never felt so good. Can’t wait to share what I’m seeing w/ you @ DeepChallenge — James Cameron (@JimCameron) March 25, 2012 Back from trip to deepest pl on Earth – #oceans hadal zone.Puts a new spin on “to hell and back”. Good to see the sunshine. #deepseachallenge — James Cameron (@JimCameron) March 26, 2012 It wasn’t all good, according to a report today from Cameron’s partners at National Geographic: The expedition was designed so that Cameron could spend up to six hours collecting samples and video at the bottom of the trench. But his mission was cut short due in part to a hydraulic fluid leak that coated the window of the sub’s “pilot sphere,” obscuring his view. “I lost hydraulics toward the latter part of dive, and I was unable to use the manipulator arm,” Cameron said this morning Considering the daunting task of sending humans into the deep, such technical glitches are to be expected, Cameron emphasized: “It’s a prototype vehicle, so it’s gonna take time to iron out the bugs.” And even with the hydraulic leak obscuring the explorer’s vision, word has it that the ocean floor looked better than Titanic 3D . After begging and pleading with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan community to please, please not engage in preemptive flame warfare over the rumors and vagaries surrounding the reboot of their beloved franchise, I now recognize the futility of my attempts at diplomacy. This comes after the film’s attached director Jonathan Liebesman — also of this week’s Wrath of the Titans and last year’s eminently regarded ( ahem ) Battle: Los Angeles — only complicated matters with his comments about the kerfuffle. And then there’s the movie’s reported name change. Liebesman toed the company line at last weekend’s Titans junket, urging TMNT devotees to calm down about producer Michael Bay’s proposed alien-turtle-ooze influence — which apparently “comes straight from the series.” I can’t believe I just wrote that, or this: “Look, it’s so funny — if everyone was such a die-hard fan, they would know that the TCRI canisters where the ooze comes from. That is alien ooze. Now I’m not saying what Michael said is exactly what the movie is, because we’re sitting in a room now figuring everything out. So we don’t know, but we are like Michael said: we’re expanding it, and the expansion will be true to the mythology. I promise you: fans will love it.” Even if those fans are to take Liebesman at his word, there’s also this reported nugget that no doubt have them soiling their Donatello jammies: Bleeding Cool has verified that the working title of the upcoming Paramount-Nickelodeon Turtle movie from producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Libesman is going by the working title of Ninja Turtles . We know all too well where the “Mutant” bit went, but now it seems we’re also losing “Teenage.” We haven’t been able to get a definite statement as to why this title change is occurring, and our sources are not 100% clear on whether or not the Turtles will indeed be adolescents. One of our sources has said: “It seems to be driven by marketing. Think of John Carter and how Disney wouldn’t allow for a title with either ‘Princess’ or ‘Mars.'” Whatever. See you at the refugee camp! I hope they have wi-fi. [ Collider , Bleeding Cool via AICN ] Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
