Is George Lucas Planning to Bring Actors Back From The Dead?

In one of the more bizarre rumors in a while, George Lucas-collaborator Mel Smith (director of Radioland Murders ) claims that Lucas is buying the film rights to dead movie stars in hopes of casting them in a movie with the help of digital effects. Given his track record for the last ten years, I honestly didn’t think Lucas could do anything that would make my jaw drop for even a moment. But bravo. I was wrong.

‘The Vice Guide To Everything’ Goes Everywhere, Because No One Else Does

Vice co-founder Shane Smith and company bring their worldwide adventures to MTV Monday at 11 p.m. ET. By James Montgomery “The Vice Guide To Everything” co-founder Shane Smith Photo: MTV News Over the past year, “The Vice Guide to Everything” stars Ryan Duffy, Thomas Morton and Shane Smith have spent quality time with Yemeni rebels, Palestinian car thieves and Russian mobsters … to name just a few. And they did it basically because no one else will. “Well, I think journalism has changed … there was a time we actually believed what the news told us,” Smith, co-founder of Vice, the magazine and burgeoning media conglomerate that proudly goes places others won’t (both literally and physically), told MTV News. “And I think after the last two wars, where mainstream media was completely co-opted by the government and, in its own admission, failed in what it was supposed to do, that young people got totally disenfranchised … and because mainstream news media failed its job, people like us had to come and fill the vacuum.” And on Monday (December 6) at 11 p.m. ET, Smith and his cohorts will begin fighting that good fight on MTV, with the premiere of “The Vice Guide to Everything,” a 30-minute, wholly irreverent, oft eye-opening look at people and places that the mainstream media wouldn’t dare cover, let alone spend time with. Armed with only cameras, the occasional translator and the odd “fixer” (basically a local hired to ensure they’re not killed) these three went there, and came back with some incredible stories. “I was most scared in Yemen, when we were shooting with the rebels and the Houthis and tribal leaders who have death warrants on their head,” Smith explained. “The secret police arrested us, took all of our stuff, and we had all these cards of every rebel leader that the government wanted to kill … so the guy who helped us out there actually had to bribe the secret police to give us the tapes so we could wipe them … then we were able to get out.” “[There were] these car thieves in the West Bank that, because of all the restrictions on trade — importing car parts, specifically — if you want a car in Palestine, you basically pay some guy, he sneaks into Israel, he steals a car, brings it back and nobody finds you,” Morton added. “And we were hanging out with these guys who basically do that for a living, and … we steal a car together, and then a day later, he and a couple of his goon buddies showed up and tried to shake us down. The problem was they only spoke Arabic, our field producer spoke a little bit of Arabic, but we were basically relying on a translator for them to shake us down. And it was the most dragged-out event on the planet. … It just kept going for so long that, by the end of it, everybody was visibly bored with the proceedings, and they gave up.” And despite the near-death experiences, the “Vice” crew said that their show isn’t about pushing the boundaries just for the thrill of it (though, certainly, that plays a part). It’s to tell compelling stories and introduce American viewers to the kinds of things that go on every single day, no matter how hard the news networks try to ignore them. “[It’s] not that we’re Walter Cronkite or anything, but that whole era is over,” Smith said. “So, I think one of the things we do is we just show a story that resonates with people … and that’s what we’re trying to do with this show, which you should watch, Mondays at 11.” “The Vice Guide to Everything” airs Mondays at 11 p.m. ET on MTV.

Katy Perry Joins ‘Glee’ Actor Darren Criss For ‘Teenage Dream’ Duet

Singer takes the stage with ‘Glee’ guest star at Trevor Project fundraiser Sunday night. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry and Darren Criss Photo: Angela Weiss/ Toby Canham/ Getty Images While Katy Perry and “Glee” guest star Darren Criss have both had chart success with Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” the two had yet to perform the track together. Criss originally performed the tune on the hit Fox show, while Perry released it earlier this year as the second single from her album of the same name. The two finally took the stage together for the first time at the Trevor LIVE annual fundraising event held at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday night. Criss, dressed in a suit, was performing the track with the show’s Dalton Academy Warblers, when Perry, dressed in a sequin dress, hit the stage to belt out the last bit of the tune. Footage of the performance hit the Net shortly after the event. Other performances for the night included a spoken-word number from Queen Latifah as well as the Hollywood Bowl cast of “Rent” singing “Seasons of Love” and “Will I.” Kathy Griffin was honored by “Glee” star Jane Lynch for donating her paycheck from an L.A.-area stand-up gig to the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. Some of the other names in attendance included Neil Patrick Harris, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Arquette, Sarah Silverman, Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel, Kate Walsh, Wayne Brady, Justin Long, Joe Manganiello, Kristin Davis, Brittany Snow, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Josh Duhamel, Anna Kendrick, James Marsden and Jessica Alba. “She’s been really sweet,” Criss said of Perry’s support after his “Teenage Dream” performance on “Glee.” ” … It’s a great tune. I really lucked out that I got to sing that song. I mean, you’ve gotta sing what they give you.” Whose version of “Teenage Dream” do you prefer: Katy’s or Darren’s? Justin Timberlake Injury Delays Filming On Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Now’

The movie will be on hiatus until singer/actor’s muscle injury heals. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Timberlake (file) Photo: Christian Petersen/ Getty Images Last week, Justin Timberlake was spotted on crutches after sustaining an injury on the set of his sci-fi thriller “Now.” And now, more details are emerging about what happened to the singer/actor when he attempted to do his own stunts on the set of the Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde co-starring flick. Sources say they “heard a pop” in Timberlake’s leg, and E! News confirmed that Timberlake’s injury has temporarily shut down production on the film. A rep for the studio said in a statement, “Justin Timberlake sustained a muscle injury to his calf on the set of Andrew Niccol’s thriller ‘Now.’ Production has taken a brief hiatus and will resume shortly.” A set source told the website that the shutdown should last about two weeks. “He hasn’t heard anything about the MRI results,” the source added. “But they’re freezing production until he’s off crutches and able to act again.” Timberlake was spotted at the Arclight theater in Hollywood for a “Social Network” Q&A session last Thursday, and he seemed to be having trouble walking. The session took place shortly after he was injured. Timberlake has been making waves as an actor as of late thanks to his roles in “The Social Network” and “Friends With Benefits,” which also features Mila Kunis and Emma Stone. “I gotta tell you, breaking up with Justin Timberlake is really fun,” Stone recently told MTV News . “It’s a feel-good time. He’s such a nice, funny guy. It was really fun. We had a good time.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Restrepo, or How I learned to Love War

This film is overflowing with camaraderie, buddy love, friendship, honor, glory, patriotism and all those heartwarming, good feelings we’re supposed to have about our country. There is no better subtle propaganda tool than a film like Restrepo to prop up this useless futile extravagant waste of a war. We feel for these soldiers and what they have to go through. But why the fuck do they have to go through it in the first place? That question is never asked. added by: JonRaymond

Kate Bosworth Calls ‘Warrior’s Way’ ‘Hodgepodge’ Of Genres

‘You have cowboys and ninjas, and clowns and babies and Westerns,’ actress tells MTV News of new flick. By Kara Warner Kate Bosworth Photo: MTV News Those who’ve seen the trailers for “The Warrior’s Way” may be confused as to what genre the highly stylized actually fits into. Turns out there are so many things going on even the film’s stars are finding it difficult to categorize the ninja/Western-style flick. “I suppose I’ve been sort of describing it as outside the box,” Kate Bosworth told MTV News. “Even reading the screenplay was a really unique experience, and that is what really excited me about the film,” she said. “I’ve never read anything like it before, so the idea of an audience never seeing a film like that before is always an initial thrill going into making a movie.” Bosworth described the film, which opened on Friday (December 3), as a cross-culture, cross-genre extravaganza. “Visually, it’s just so beautiful,” the actress said. “You have cowboys and ninjas, and clowns and babies and Westerns, and it’s just a hodgepodge of excitement happening in this movie.” Speaking of excitement, Bosworth experienced plenty on set, particularly during her character’s fight sequences and the training required to execute them. “I would’ve liked to have had more time [training], to be totally honest with you, because this film sort of happened really quickly,” Bosworth explained. “It was sort of one of those things that you read and everyone came onboard and then you’re flying to New Zealand and training and trying to keep up, and then shooting. “I trained as much as possible, obviously, because I wanted to be prepared,” she added. “The sequences are so intricate. They’re more of a dance with the other actor than a fight, even. So it was almost like learning ballet, I think, more than martial arts.” “The Warrior’s Way” also stars Danny Huston and Korean superstar Jang Dong Gun. Nicole Kidman Talks Babies, Nightmares At ‘Rabbit Hole’ Premiere

‘I was having nightmares and I was really shaken,’ she tells MTV News about tackling difficult role. By Eric Ditzian Nicole Kidman Photo: MTV News Several years ago, when Nicole Kidman was pregnant with her daughter, she began developing a big-screen adaptation of “Rabbit Hole,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about parents suffering through the unimaginable loss of their young son. The experience of bringing a life into the world while simultaneously shepherding a project about a life lost was an intensely affecting one for the actress, as she explained on Thursday at the film’s red-carpet premiere. When production on “Rabbit Hole” began, daughter Sunday Rose was a year old, and Kidman found it difficult to let go of the characters at the end of each day. “[It] deeply affects me,” she told MTV News. “There were times when I woke in the middle of the night and I was having nightmares and I was really shaken by it. And that’s when I know when something’s really seeped into my subconscious and is disturbing me.” Co-star Aaron Eckhart — who plays Kidman’s husband, one half of a couple being torn apart by the death of their child — similarly found himself reevaluating the idea of marriage and fatherhood. “It made me reflect on parenthood,” he explained. “I’m not a father and I’m not married. Maybe someday I will be. I just put myself in that position of losing my son and almost losing my wife. I learned a lot about grief.” As dark as the material can be at times, the red carpet was anything but a depressing affair. Kidman was all smiles as she posed for pictures and answered questions alongside her husband, country music star Keith Urban. Jon Hamm, Parker Posey and co-star Sandra Oh were also on-hand for the celebration. Director John Cameron Mitchell pointed out that the festive mood was in keeping with the overall message of “Rabbit Hole,” which opens in limited release on December 17. “It isn’t depressing,” he said. “You are going to intense places, but everybody loves a good cry. Some people get that out in therapy, but many Americans do it through their entertainment. And this is an entertaining film despite its heaviness and it does end up with a lot of hope.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Rabbit Hole.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Rihanna, Justin Bieber Top Billboard’s Social 50 Chart

Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj round out the new tally’s top 5. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Evan Agostini/AP Photo As if Rihanna and Justin Bieber needed another chart to conquer, Billboard has given them one. The magazine has just launched the Social 50 chart , which ranks the most active artists on the world’s leading social-networking sites, and the two pop juggernauts have landed at the top of the tally. Rihanna and Bieber place first and second on the list, respectively, followed by Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj. Filling out the top 10 are the Black Eyed Peas (#6), Katy Perry (#7), Ke$ha (#8), Linkin Park (#9) and Shakira (#10). Other artists who made the list include Taylor Swift, Usher, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Paramore. “We continue to adapt the way we chart the changing landscape of music,” Billboard editorial director Bill Werde said about the new chart. “The Social 50 is yet another step in the evolution of Billboard and an important response to our changing times.” For those wondering how the magazine came up with the list, here’s the science: Social music-tracking service Next Big Sound collects data from the MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and iLike websites and tallies artists’ popularity using a formula blending their weekly additions of friends, fans and followers. The online behavior of these websites’ users and the number of artist page views and song plays they rack up are among the data used to determine the rankings. “The Social 50 provides a weekly snapshot of the artists with whom music fans engage with the most in the social arena, which in today’s world is a significant validation of their investment in an act,” Billboard director of charts Silvio Pietroluongo explained. “The chart is a logical complement to Billboard ‘s other popularity rankings.” “The volume of online activity that top artists now receive is too big to ignore,” Next Big Sound CEO Alex White said. “We are thrilled that social music activity now receives the same emphasis as the music charts for which Billboard is synonymous.” The Social 50 will be published each week in Billboard , and also will be available on Billboard.com and Billboard.biz. Mila Kunis on Fake Sex with Justin Timberlake: Awkward!

Mila Kunis is having a lot of sex these days. On the big screen, that is. (We’d like to think her and shocking long-time boyfriend Macaulay Culkin never actually get past first base.) The actress stars in Black Swan , a thriller that focuses on the relationship between a veteran ballet dancer and a rival. Kunis and co-star Natalie Portman make major love during the film. Up next, Mila will appear opposite Justin Timberlake in Friends with Benefits , a comedy that asks the question: Can VERY attractive pals also be casual sex partners? In an appearance on Ellen this week, Kunis was asked what it’s like to fake do JT on camera. “It’s very awkward. It just is,” she said. “He’s great. The truth is, we got to have very uncomfortable scenes for two weeks… there’s like 150 crew men watching and you see each other’s bits and pieces. The whole thing is just wrong.” And also so hot! Check out the red band Friends with Benefits trailer now!
