‘Twelve’ Stars 50 Cent, Chace Crawford Choose Their Favorite Movie Drug Dealers

‘One of my favorite movies of all time is ‘True Romance,’ ‘ Crawford says about the Quentin Tarantino-penned flick. By Jocelyn Vena Chase Crawford Photo: MTV News In their new drama “Twelve,” out this weekend, Chace Crawford and 50 Cent both play New York City drug dealers, following in the footsteps of a long line of celluloid drug dealers. So the duo had plenty of inspiration to fuel their own work in the film. Al Pacino’s legendary role of Tony Montana in “Scarface” was cited by several of the “Twelve” castmembers as favorites, including Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Billy Magnussen. But Rory Culkin called out his co-stars for making such an obvious choice. “Movie drug dealer? Everyone’s gonna say ‘Scarface!’ ” he said. ” ‘The Wackness’s Josh Peck was a pretty badass little pot dealer. I dug it.” There was one other flick that came out on top. “One of my favorite movies of all time is ‘True Romance,’ ” Chace Crawford said. “Brad Pitt obviously plays a hilarious character in that. He’s funny. Gary Oldman is awesome. That’s probably, as far as that goes, my favorite.” Like Crawford, director Joel Schumacher also named the 1993 Tony Scott film, which was written by Quentin Tarantino. “My favorite drug dealer in a movie would be Gary Oldman in ‘True Romance.’ The lovely red-headed woman [Zo

‘The Other Guys’ Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know!

Before hopping in the squad car with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, check out these fun facts. By Eric Ditzian Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell and Steve Coogan in “The Other Guys” Photo: Sony Pictures Up on the big screen, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay have what you might call “vocational schizophrenia.” They hopscotch from the local-news business to the NASCAR circuit to the lines of the happily unemployed. Now, after “Anchorman,” “Talladega Nights” and “Step Brothers,” comes “The Other Guys,” an action comedy that has McKay in the director’s chair and Ferrell teaming up with Mark Wahlberg for a flick about two New York Police Department pencil-pushers who get pulled into the middle of a multibillion-dollar fraud case. But whereas Bernie Madoff perpetrated his crime via expensive suits and stuffy country clubs, the villains in “Other Guys” take breaks from stealing cash to fire guns, blow up buildings and rob stores. It’s up to Ferrell and Wahlberg to get away from their desks, brush up on their surveillance skills and risk life and limb to bring some justice to the city streets and bank accounts. MTV News has been conducting our own investigation on this project for a year — tracking each development and bringing you inside peeks at the production — and now, we present to you another of our cheat sheets: everything you need to know about “The Other Guys.” Rounding Up the Guys We first chatted with McKay about the movie last summer, when he’d flown into New York to kick-start the casting process. He already had Ferrell and Wahlberg locked down and was looking to round out the rest of the cast. By autumn, the pieces started to fall into place : Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson signed on to play rival cops, and Steve Coogan came aboard to play the central bad guy. Going Behind the Screen As the film shifted into production, MTV News was lucky enough to be invited onto the New York set for an exclusive look at the production . Ferrell and Wahlberg gave us a tour around their police precinct, joking about the film’s “Avatar”-like special effects and revealing one character’s daily affirmation: “Nobody does it better. Nobody!” But that visit wasn’t the only chance we got to talk to the cast and crew. Separately, Wahlberg revealed to us his epic day on set with Derek Jeter — or, to be more specific, how his character gets into an unfortunate confrontation with Jeter that results in the Yankee shortstop being shot in the leg. Johnson bragged about how he and Jackson were the true superstars on set. And McKay talked about Wahlberg’s balletic dance moves , some of the movie’s action scenes, and how the first cut ran over four hours. These Guys Can’t Take Anything Seriously So what is this movie all about? It’s about hope and Barack Obama — at least that’s what Ferrell and McKay will tell you . What’s more, they’ll try to convince you they shot this movie on VHS tapes . And Jackson will wax poetic about his “man love” with Johnson . If you’re looking for serious answers, you’ve come to the wrong place. Then again, if you’re looking for a serious movie, “Other Guys” ain’t for you. But if you dig a whole lot of hilarious weirdness of the type you got in “Anchorman” or “Step Brothers,” then a few hours with “The Other Guys” is exactly what you want. Just check out one early scene, in which Ferrell and Wahlberg get into a ridiculous argument . “If I were a lion and you were a tuna, I would swim out in the middle of the ocean and eat you,” Wahlberg says. “First of all, a lion swimming in the ocean? Lions don’t like water,” Ferrell responds. “If you’d placed it near a river or some sort of fresh-water source, that’d make sense. But you find yourself in the ocean, 20 foot waves — I’m assuming it’s off the coast of South Africa — coming up against a full-grown, 800-pound tuna, with his 20 or 30 friends, you lose that battle! You lose that battle nine times out of 10!” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Other Guys.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Jerry Garcia Musical Biopic Loses Rights to Jerry Garcia Music

Deadheads might call this a bad trip: The planned biopic about Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia has been Jackie Jormp-Jomp’d . Reps for Garcia’s estate announced it will not participate in the film, meaning filmmakers won’t have access to his music or his family. If director Amir Bar-Lev ( The Tillman Story ) needs any tips on how to navigate a musical biopic without the artist’s actual music, he should probably give Jack Donaghy a call. Christina Aguilera’s ‘Burlesque’ Trailer Debuts

Trailer features Cher and shows Aguilera’s character’s struggle to make it as an entertainer. By Eric Ditzian Christina Aguilera in “Burlesque” Photo: Screen Gems It’s been a while since Christina Aguilera was an up-and-coming artist on the pop music scene, and even back then, she didn’t struggle for long. Her debut album hit the #1 Billboard spot and went platinum eight times. But Aguilera’s starring turn in “Burlesque” thrusts the 29-year-old back into the role of aspiring artist, and as the movie’s first trailer shows, Aguilera has taken to the portrayal quite well. Our first glimpse of Xtina comes as she books a one-way bus ticket out of her small town and toward the bright lights and skimpy outfits of Los Angeles. She lands at a nightclub run by none other than Cher and fights her way onto the stage and in front of an audience as a burlesque performer. “When you are putting on your makeup, it’s like you’re an artist, but instead of painting a canvas, you’re painting a face,” Cher explains. The trailer gives us a glimpse at Aguilera’s attempts to convince Cher to give her a shot to perform, her burgeoning relationship with Cam Gigandet, her rivalry with Kristen Bell and, of course, her crazy vocal abilities. “It’s sexy, it’s sensual,” Aguilera said of the film last month. “The whole idea of burlesque has always intrigued me . The art of the tease, the dance, beautiful women — need I say more?” Though “Burlesque” marks Xtina’s feature film debut, director Steven Antin revealed she didn’t have any trouble getting the hang of a movie set. “She figured out how it works within weeks,” he said. “She is a little bit of a freak of nature and a perfectionist. This girl is a movie star.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Burlesque.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Amy Adams, Viggo Mortensen Added To ‘On The Road’ Cast

Kirsten Dunst and Kristen Stewart also star in the film based on Jack Kerouac’s novel. By Adam Rosenberg Amy Adams Photo: Ethan Miller/ WireImage And the Beat goes on. Two more have joined the cast of director Walter Salles’ upcoming adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel “On the Road,” which already counts Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kirsten Dunst and Kristen Stewart among its stars. Viggo Mortensen and Amy Adams have signed on to play the husband and wife couple Old Bull Lee and Jane, according to Deadline New York . Both drug abusers, Sal (Riley) encounters the Lees later in his story and, for all their faults, sees in them the sort of connection that he is looking for in his own sought-after relationship. For those who are unfamiliar with the novel’s background, Kerouac’s writings are a largely autobiographical account of his journeys around the country, though specific names have been changed. Old Bull Lee and his wife, Jane, are believed to be noted author William S. Burroughs and his common-law wife Joan Vollmer. Burroughs accidentally shot and killed Vollmer in 1951, an incident he initially said stemmed from a William Tell act gone wrong. Adams will next appear in David O. Russell’s “The Fighter” alongside Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. And “On the Road” isn’t her only project with a connection to counterculture: “Twilight” producer Wyck Godfrey revealed a few weeks ago that she is also attached to star in a Janis Joplin biopic. For Mortensen, this marks the second “Road” movie in a short period of time. He starred opposite Kodi Smit-McPhee (“Let Me In”) in last year’s adaptation of the post-apocalyptic Cormac McCarthy novel “The Road.” He’ll next star with Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley in director David Cronenberg’s “A Dangerous Method” as the famed psychotherapist Sigmund Freud. New Poster for Joaquin Phoenix’s I’m Still Here Devoid of Debauchery

For a film shoot that was loaded with enough sordid conduct to sustain two sexual harassment lawsuits , you would be right to think the poster for I’m Still Here might feature some crazed lunacy. Or at least a picture of Joaquin Phoenix getting crapped on . Alas, that isn’t the case. But with a single headshot of the film’s bearded star looking as dazed and confused as ever, Magnolia Pictures has probably gotten to the core of this faux-documentary better than any bodily function could. Click ahead to see the full poster.

Nicolas Cage Decides to Make Trespass After All, Probably

Nicolas Cage just can’t make his mind up about the new Joel Schumacher thriller Trespass . Originally set to star with Nicole Kidman as a husband and wife who turn the tables on their kidnappers, Cage then decided he’d rather play the lead kidnapper before ditching the project entirely as of yesterday. Now, like a wayward Amish youth with a Rumspringa hangover, Cage has returned to the film in his original role. We give it a week before he switches parts with Nicole Kidman. [ Deadline ]

The Debt Trailer: Sam Worthington May Not Age Well

John Madden’s long-shelved thriller The Debt cuts between its main characters in two distinct time periods, which allows the film to indulge in my favorite game: “What will these actors look like when they get older?” According to the new trailer , Jessica Chastain turns into Helen Mirren after thirty years, which is not a bad deal at all. How about Sam Worthington, though?
