Janet Jackson Tells Oprah She Thinks Of Michael Jackson ‘Every Day’

‘It’s hard to believe still to this day,’ she says of Michael Jackson’s death last year. By Josh Wigler Janet Jackson (file) Photo: MTV News Janet Jackson and director Tyler Perry appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Friday (April 2) to promote their latest film, “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?” During the appearance, Jackson spoke at length about the death of her brother Michael Jackson . Jackson recalled being at her home in New York City when she received a call from her assistant relaying reports that her brother had fallen ill. After speaking with her sister LaToya and brother Jermaine, Janet learned that her brother had died. “It’s hard to believe still to this day,” she said while holding back tears. “There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think about him. Our whole family thinks of him every single day.” Jackson said she has difficulty looking at pictures of Michael, so much so that she physically turns away whenever she sees videos or photographs of her brother. She can, however, view photos of Michael as a child, as it reminds her how much fun they had together in their youth. The last time Jackson saw her brother was a month before his death, when it was apparent to the entire Jackson family that Michael was very ill. Janet said she and her other family members staged an intervention for Michael, but the late pop sensation adamantly denied having any health issues. Perry took to Janet and her family’s defense, strongly emphasizing that the Jacksons did their very best to help Michael in the days, weeks and months prior to his death. In light of Michael’s death, Perry and the cast and crew of “Why Did I Get Married Too?” were very protective of Janet during filming . In fact, Perry revealed that certain scenes in the film, including one where Janet’s character speaks at a funeral, were altered in order to protect the starlet from public scrutiny, despite her own protests. Janet said: “He was so kind and everyone was so sweet. … He was by my side.” Janet, who revealed that she’s currently writing a self-esteem book titled “True to You,” said the last words she ever spoke to Michael were: “I love you.” Related Photos Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos Related Artists Janet Jackson Michael Jackson

Captain America: Chris Evans Confirmed & Bucky Has Been Cast

We’ve gotten some major Captain America news in the past 24 hours. While we may have already learned last week that actor Chris Evans had landed the prestigious title role in The First Avenger: Captain America , it was still sort of classified merely as a “strong rumor.” That status has now been upgraded to iron-clad fact, as Marvel has issued a press release today, which finally confirms his casting. However, that’s not even the big news. Marvel is also confirming the truth of a rumor reported late yesterday by Deadline , that Gossip Girl and Hot Tub Time Machine star, Sebastian Stan has been cast to play Cap’s legendary young sidekick, Bucky . Just a few days ago, the mere existence of Bucky in the film was still something that was up in the air. Now, we not only know he’s in it, but who will play him. Introduced in the 1941 debut issue, Cap’s young sidekick Bucky Barnes was always seen as a sort of “poor man’s Robin.” And much like Jason Todd, the second version of Robin, Bucky’s death was one of those moments in comics legendary for not only its harshness, but for Marvel’s faithfulness to the idea of keeping him dead. As the old saying went, O.B.S.D. (Only Bucky Stays Dead.) However, that venerable saying was squashed when he was revived in the comics as Winter Soldier in 2005. He would even eventually replace Steve Rogers as Captain America when he was famously killed at the climax of Civil War . How will the character of Bucky be handled in the upcoming Avengers prequel? The casting of Sebastian Stan for this character is rather interesting, and may lift the veil a bit, regarding the film’s character dynamics. Stan, at 26, is only about a year-and-a-half younger than Cap’s Chris Evans. If I were to speculate, based on what we now know, it seems that the two will likely begin the film as best-friends, when the opportunity to enter the Super Soldier program goes to Steve and possibly divides their friendship briefly. After Cap becomes infused with his new powers and abilities, he’ll probably enjoys his initial victories, but soon realizes that he still needs his old buddy at his side. So, it looks like we will see more of a situation of the two of them being friends and equals, rather than Bucky being Cap’s 15 year-old “young ward” type who was recruited to help rally youth to enlist in the military and fight the Nazis. In fact, just looking at Stan, it almost seems surprising that he wasn’t up for the role of Cap himself, based on the guys who were once in consideration . (One of which included Stan’s Gossip Girl co-star, Chace Crawford.) What do you think about the choice of Sebastian Stan as Bucky? Does it work? Should they have gone younger/older? Drink Up with this Exclusive Clip from The Good Heart, Starring Brian Cox and Paul Dano

It’s the end of the week and you’re ready for a drink, no? Still, it’s a bit early in the day, so why don’t you get your alcohol-related ya-yas out via Movieline’s exclusive clip from The Good Heart , released today on video-on-demand and in theaters on April 30. It’s a fitting introduction to the dive bar that’s the focus of the film, a gritty place owned by Jacques (Brian Cox), who’s grooming the homeless Lucas (Paul Dano) to take it over. You’ll learn the rules of this particular establishment: dogs are permitted (as long as they can hold their own in a staring contest), but new customers are not, especially when they’re looking for organic ingredients in their Bloody Marys. You’ve been warned!

Splice Trailer: Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley Make a Murderous Baby Together

“Hey, there’s a new Splice trailer,” I said today to my Movieline comrade-in-arms, who had caught the film back at Sundance. “That movie is f***ing disgusting,” he replied. Between that recommendation and this clip, I think I’m starting to get excited.

Stephenie Meyer’s ‘The Host’ Could Begin Filming Next Year

‘Twilight’ author’s first adult novel is well on its way to the big screen. By Christoper Campbell Stephanie Meyer Photo: MTV News With the film installments of her “Twilight” novels not yet fully completed, Stephenie Meyer is already well into the development of her next film franchise. According to Deadline.com , the adaptation of the author’s first adult novel, “The Host,” could go before cameras as early as next year. Published in 2008, the book involves benevolent yet parasitic aliens who have taken over the minds of almost all the humans on Earth. Upon its release, Meyer described the plot to MTV News as ” ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers,’ if the aliens had won.” Although financing is not yet in place and no definite shooting schedule is planned for the sci-fi/horror hybrid, producer Steve Schwartz divulged that “Truman Show” Oscar-nominee Andrew Niccol is currently working on his third draft of the screenplay, with the author’s close involvement. Niccol is also signed on to direct the film. Schwartz, who is now budgeting the project with co-producers Paula Mae Schwartz and Nick Wechsler, again noted that Meyer handpicked the filmmaker because Niccol’s directorial debut, “Gattaca,” is one of her favorite science-fiction films. However, his hire was not immediate. “We spent time with Andrew,” Schwartz explained. “Listened to his vision, introduced Andrew to Stephenie and she responded. There is very good chemistry in this group. Stephenie is a very smart collaborator, and she had an intuitive strong hunch he would be the right guy. Based on the script we’ve seen, we think she was right.” Fans will have to wait and see if Meyer is also right about her dream cast for the film, which she told MTV News in 2008 includes Robert Redford, Matt Damon and both Ben and Casey Affleck. Another uncertainty is when — or if — Meyer will ever finish her two planned sequels to “The Host.” Regardless of whether or not the adaptation spawns further novels or movies, a 2011 shoot could put “The Host” in theaters before the “Twilight Saga” ends, depending on when the second part to the two-film adaptation of “Breaking Dawn” is released. Plus, with Meyer’s announcement of the “Eclipse” spin-off novella “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner,” there’s now a tease that Summit Entertainment could extend the hot vampire film series even further than a fifth installment. MTV’s Bree Tanner Cheat-Sheet – Everything You Need To Know

MTV.com compiled a list of everything you’ll need to know about Bree Tanner – the young newborn vampire that Victoria created in Eclipse – due to Stephenie Meyer’s recent announcement of a novella she will release about Bree An “Eclipse” Exclusive: If you’ve only been watching the “Twilight” movies or read the first two books, don’t be shocked that you have no idea who Bree Tanner is. In fact, don’t be upset if you read “Eclipse” and still have no idea who she is. Tanner is a character introduced a startlingly short amount of time before she dies in “Eclipse” and could be considered (to everyone except Stephenie Meyer) to be a throwaway character. A Short Life: Tanner is only introduced 10 pages before she is killed off in Victoria’s war against the Cullens and the Quileute werewolf tribe. However, of all the newborn vampires discussed in “Eclipse,” Tanner was one of the few to be named and introduced to the readers. Unfortunately, it didn’t take very long after she was turned into a vampire for her to meet her end … again. Dramatic Death Scene: It turns out Tanner isn’t the best newborn vampire among them all, and she isn’t a big fan of killing innocents and drinking their blood. She tries to join forces with the Cullen clan and adapt to their “vegetarian vampire” lifestyle, but ends up being killed by Felix on the orders of Jane, a member of the Volturi guard (played by Dakota Fanning in the film), in the final battle. Newborn Vampires: A big part of the story in “Eclipse” surrounds the bad-girl vampire Victoria creating an army of newborn vampires in the Seattle area so she can wage war on Edward Cullen, who killed her beau James way back in “Twilight.” When a vampire is first created, it is at its strongest, so Victoria went around recklessly creating vampires so she could have an extremely powerful army behind her. Tanner was just one of the fatalities. Seattle: The trouble with the first-person perspective of “The Twilight Saga” is that the reader can’t read what is happening firsthand beyond what Bella Swan sees with her own eyes. Much like “Midnight Sun” gave (some) of the details behind what happened elsewhere in “Twilight,” “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” will show what happened in Seattle with Victoria during “Eclipse.” But since much of “Eclipse” is devoted to the characters wondering what exactly was going on in Seattle, seeing it through the eyes of a secondary character like Tanner is a smart companion piece to the book. Unseen First Life: Unfortunately for Tanner, the world will never know what happened to her before she became a vampire. She was introduced into “Eclipse” after she was a newborn and “The Short Second Life” will start off the same way. There is a chance of flashbacks telling about her life before becoming a vampire, but the way Meyer described the novella on her Web site made it seem as though Tanner was the narrator solely so the reader could see what went on in Seattle, not to learn her past. In The Movies: “Eclipse” director David Slade at least had more of a heads-up than fans and retailers did about “The Short Second Life,” and he cast 14-year-old Jodelle Ferland in the role. Slade and Ferland, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard (Victoria) and Xavier Samuel (Riley), were given advance copies of the book to read so they could have a complete knowledge of what went on in Seattle for the film. {via MTV }

Bree Tanner Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know About New ‘Twilight’ Novella

Character provides insight into Victoria’s creation of vampire army in Seattle. By Terri Schwartz “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” Photo: Little, Brown Books/ Summit Entertainment Oh my Edward. Stephenie Meyer has announced she is publishing a new book called “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner,” due in bookstores June 5 and available for free at BreeTanner.com from June 7 to July 5. The novella will act as something of a companion piece for the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” film. But it begs the question: Who exactly is Bree Tanner? It seems a bit surprising that Meyer would choose to write a novella about a character who shows up for such a short period of time in the novels. Don’t worry about hauling out your copy of “Eclipse” to find the surprisingly few pages Tanner appears on, because we did all the dirty work for you. Here is a cheat sheet telling you everything you need to know about the short-lived Bree Tanner.
