Bobby Brown Didn’t Get Whitney Houston ‘Addicted’ To Drugs

‘I’m not the reason she’s gone,’ singer’s ex-husband tells Matt Lauer in upcoming ‘Today’ show chat. By Kara Warner Matt Lauer talks to Bobby Brown on “Today” Photo: NBC News Their relationship may have been tumultuous and their struggles with substance abuse well-documented, but Bobby Brown insists that he is not the reason ex-wife Whitney Houston started doing drugs, a habit that she battled right up until her death in February. “I’m not the one that got Whitney on drugs, at all,” Brown told “Today” host Matt Lauer in an interview set to air on Wednesday and Thursday. “I’m not the reason she’s gone.” Brown admitted that when he learned of his ex’s death, he was saddened to hear she had started using cocaine again. “I was hurt … because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years — I felt that she was, you know, I didn’t know she was struggling with it still. But at the same time, you know — listen, it’s a hard fight,” he said. Regarding his involvement in Houston’s drug use, Brown said that drugs were a part of Houston’s life before they met in 1991. “I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs at all,” he insisted. “It’s just, it’s just unexplainable, how one could [say that I] got her addicted to drugs. I’m not the reason she’s gone.” The New Edition member said that Houston seemed to have “a glow about her” the last time he saw her over dinner at a restaurant with their daughter, Bobbi Kristina, which was about a week before she died. “She just looked like she was in a good place,” he said. Waka Flocka Flame Can’t Accept Slim Dunkin’s Death

‘My dog ain’t pass; I ain’t accepting that,’ Waka tells MTV News of his friend’s December murder. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Michael Primo Waka Flocka Flame Photo: MTV News Despite the few months that have passed, it is still very difficult for Waka Flocka Flame to come to terms with the murder of his friend Mario “Slim Dunkin” Hamilton . “My dog ain’t pass. I ain’t accepting that,” Waka told MTV News after a photo shoot in Brooklyn, New York, last week. “You know that sh– is gonna carry with me, though, because he’s me and I’m him. Together we’re Brick Squad, man.” Dunkin, who was an emerging talent in Waka’s Brick Squad Monopoly crew, was shot and killed December 16 after an argument in an Atlanta recording studio. The day after Dunkin’s death, Waka expressed his grief via Twitter. “WISH IT WAS ME … MY F—ING RIGHT HAND IS GONE,” Flocka wrote. The “O Let’s Do It” MC continued to vent over Twitter, writing, “Damn I feel dead” and “IM LOST” in reaction to the tragic news. Flocka dedicated his upcoming June album Triple F Life: Friends, Fans and Family to Dunkin. “What’s behind my Triple F Life wave? The passing of my best friend Dunk. R.I.P. Dunk,” he said. “That boy there was special. That boy there was different.” In March, Vinson “Young Vito” Hardimon, the rapper who police say shot Dunkin, was indicted on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony by a Georgia grand jury. Before he passed, the rapper appeared alongside Waka on his 2010 debut album, Flockaveli, and on Gucci Mane and V-Nasty’s BAYTL LP last year. On Halloween, he dropped Menace II Society, a 20-track mixtape that featured Gucci Mane, Roscoe Dash and Pastor Troy. Related Artists Waka Flocka Flame Slim Dunkin

Machine Gun Kelly Fought ‘Wild Boy’ Initially

‘Maybe I should just hate every song I’m about to release,’ MGK tells MTV News about his Half Naked & Almost Famous single. By Rob Markman Machine Gun Kelly Photo: Jerod Harris/ WireImage Machine Gun Kelly relishes the underdog role, but the Cleveland, Ohio, rapper racked up another serious win on Tuesday (March 20) when he dropped his Half Naked & Almost Famous EP on Bad Boy Records. The five-song digital release marks MGK’s first major-label release and serves as a warm-up for his official debut LP. Tracks like the riot-starting “Warning Shot” and the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced and soul-bearing “See My Tears” help balance out the quick fix, but the EP’s anchor is its first single, “Wild Boy.” Initially MGK was skeptical about leading his charge with the Waka Flocka-assisted track, but Diddy talked him into it. “He was the one who encouraged ‘Wild Boy,’ he encouraged the whole thing. I was like, ‘Nah, no way, we gotta go serious with the serious stuff right now,'” MGK told MTV News during a January sit-down. “If we would’ve went that route, I would’ve fizzled off real quick” Kells was down on the Spiff TV-directed video as well after a miscommunication between Waka and his mom/manager Deb Antney almost halted production. “We had all these initial plans, but none of them fell through,” he said. “It was almost a wrap on it because Waka’s mom didn’t tell him that he had a video shoot today. So I was like, ‘Come on, hurry up,’… He was like ‘Video shoot? What are you talkin’ about?’ ” Waka eventually made it to the shoot and in the end everything worked out. Now, MGK understands the value of strong lead single. “I accept it. I totally accept it. I accept what it does for the people in the crowd and I accept what it did for my recognition.” In fact, thanks to “Wild Boy” and the tons of touring MGK does, the MC was able to gain enough support to be able to release Half Naked & Almost Famous and its accompanying documentary. “Maybe I should just hate every song I’m about to release,” he joked. Prodigy Crafts H.N.I.C. 3 From Mobb Deep Sessions

‘When you listen to the mixtape, you’re hearing all the songs that didn’t make the album that’s about to come out,’ Prodigy tells Mixtape Daily . By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum Prodigy Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily: Main Pick Mixtape : H.N.I.C. 3 Headliner : Prodigy Representing : Queens, New York Real Spit: : In the studio, Mobb Deep is all work and no play. For the group’s upcoming full-length album , Prodigy claims to have recorded a ton of songs — way more than an album’s worth of material. Rather than let them go to waste, Prodigy decided to gift-wrap 26 of those tracks and package them as his latest mixtape, H.N.I.C. 3 . “The process of recording the H.N.I.C. 3 mixtape, it’s basically when I’m working on an album, I’m working on hundreds of songs,” Prodigy told Mixtape Daily . “Mobb Deep, that’s just how we work: thousands and thousands of songs. When you listen to the mixtape, you’re hearing all the songs that didn’t make the album that’s about to come out, but it’s still good enough for representing Prodigy, representing H.N.I.C. , representing Infamous.” With a bulk of the production provided by Mobb Deep’s Havoc, Prodigy goes on a lyrical tear. The Queens MC balances out his features well. French Montana, Waka Flocka Flame, Cory Gunz and Lady Luck all show up to assist, but Pee remains the “Head N—a in Charge” throughout. On “That’s Nasty,” Prodigy shows flashes of the young version of himself that threatened to “Stab your brain with your nose bone” on his mid-’90s classic “Shook Ones Pt. II.” Over the bluesy Havoc-produced track, he starts, “Blood dribbling, while I stand back giggling/ Brass knuckles on my fingers and pain tingling.” The murderous theme carries throughout. On “Slaughterhouse,” Prodigy imagines bringing death to a government cooperative who takes the stand in court, and on “Make a Hole,” he recounts his days in jail, writing rhymes that he was unable to record. Now that he’s home, however, Prodigy doesn’t seem to be letting an opportunity pass him by. Maybe the thousands of songs he says he has in the stash is an exaggeration, but no matter the number, they all seem to be potent. Joints to Check For

Police say they believe a fight over candy led to the murder of Brick Squad rapper Slim Dunkin over the weekend. Slim Dunkin (real name Mario Hamilton) was shot and killed at a recording studio on Memorial Drive on Friday night. Police said Slim got into an argument with another man over a piece of candy prior to the fatal shooting. Despite there being 15-30 people in the recording studio at the time of the murder, so far, no witnesses have come forward. Slim Dunkin was headed to the recording studio to appear in the “Push Ups” video for Gucci Mane and V-Nasty, a track he rapped on that appears on the duo’s street LP, “BAYTL.” Slim Dunkin has also recorded with his best friend, Waka Flocka Flame , Roscoe Dash and others. Slim Dunkin Reportedly Murdered After Fight Over Candy

The Waka Flocka Flame affiliate fought with man over stolen piece of candy, Atlanta police say. By Rob Markman Slim Dunkin and Waka Flocka Photo: MTV News Atlanta police are still on the hunt for the man who shot and killed up-and-coming rapper “Slim Dunkin” on December 16, but new disturbing details have emerged in the case. On Tuesday, WSB-TV in Atlanta reported that the Waka Flocka Flame affiliate and Brick Squad Monopoly member was shot in an altercation which began over a stolen piece of candy. “The information we’re getting, it’s unconfirmed, but witnesses are saying this whole thing started over a piece of candy,” homicide detective David Quinn told “Action News” on camera. According to witnesses, Dunkin, born Mario Hamilton, grabbed a piece of candy from another man while inside an Atlanta recording studio, which led to an argument and then a fistfight. The scuffle ended with Slim being shot once in the chest. He was then transported to Grady Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There were a number of witnesses at the scene, but because police first arrived at the hospital and not the scene of the crime, they didn’t have the opportunity to properly interview all of the people who were present. There will be a public viewing on Thursday at Atlanta’s Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home, located at 1003 Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, from the hours of 6 p.m. ET to 9 p.m. ET. Dunk was an emerging star in Waka Flocka Flame ‘s Brick Squad Monopoly crew. Aside from key appearances alongside Flocka on his 2010 debut album, Flockaveli, and on Gucci Mane and V-Nasty’s BAYTL LP, Slim was also beginning to make waves as a soloist. This past Halloween the street-bred MC released Menace II Society, a 20-track mixtape that featured Gucci Mane, Roscoe Dash and Pastor Troy. Dunkin’s death has sent waves through the rap community; his close collaborators were undoubtedly hit hard. The day after he was murdered Waka took to Twitter to express his grief. “WISH IT WAS ME … MY F—ING RIGHT HAND IS GONE,” Flocka wrote the day after the murder. The “O Let’s Do It” MC continued to vent over Twitter, writing, “damn I feel dead” and “IM LOST” in reaction to the tragic news. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward and call 404-577-TIPS.

Waka Flocka Flame ‘Lost’ After Slim Dunkin Murder

Police have so far been unable to identify gunman in Friday shooting in Atlanta. By Rob Markman Slim Dunkin and Waka Flocka Photo: MTV News Waka Flocka Flame is taking the Friday shooting death of his friend and rap cohort Slim Dunkin very hard. “WISH IT WAS ME … MY F—ING RIGHT HAND IS GONE,” Flocka tweeted the day after the murder. The “O Let’s Do It” MC continued to vent over Twitter, writing , “damn I feel dead” and “IM LOST” in reaction to the tragic news. Dunkin, who was born Mario Hamilton, was fatally shot once in the chest after an altercation with another man inside an Atlanta recording studio. Slim was an up-and-coming rapper in Waka’s Brick Squad Monopoly crew and had collaborated heavily with both Flocka and BSM-affiliate Gucci Mane. Atlanta police have interviewed a number of witnesses who were on or around the scene at the time of the shooting, but police have been unable to identify the gunman. “Right now we’re just trying to … identify who may have seen what, really just trying to put the pieces together,” Atlanta Police Major Keith Meadows told The Associated Press. “It seems everybody witnessed something very different. We’re just trying to go back and make sense of everything.” Despite their musical beef, rival rapper Kebo Gotti explained that he was in no way involved in the murder of his onetime friend. “I just don’t know what to say rite now,” Kebo said in a statement issued to MTV News. “What can u say u know when people are pointing the finger at you saying you killed someone you cared about just [because] you just had a fight, what can you say, what are you supposed to say about something like that. He was my brother.” Kebo, who was an original member of Brick Squad, split from the crew and has been involved in a beef with both Dunkin and Waka for some time now. The drama has even gotten physical. In an edited viral video that surfaced on World Star Hip-Hop in October, Gotti spews numerous insults at Flocka and is seen having a street fight with Dunkin. On Halloween, Slim released Menace II Society, a 20-track mixtape featuring Gucci Mane, Roscoe Dash and Pastor Troy. Rest in peace, Slim Dunkin. Leave your condolences in the comments below.
