Leslye Headland Says Wes Anderson ‘Saved Sex’ For Her Thanks To ‘Rushmore’

Leslye Headland won’t forget her first time, but not for the reasons you might think. In a guest blog she wrote for The Film Experience , the playwright and filmmaker, whose buzzed-about debut, Bachelorette , opens theatrically on Sept. 7 wrote that while losing her virginity was “sort of a let down,” the experience was salvaged by a post-deflowering viewing of Wes Anderson’s iconoclastic teen romance story  Rushmore.  “It was awkward, sort of empty and was done mostly to just get it over with,” Headland wrote of the sexual experience in “Growing Up Cinephile,” adding: “Afterwards, a thick disappointment hung in the room. My deflowerer half-heartedly offered up a solution” to watch Anderson’s second feature, which he pronounced the “greatest thing you’ll ever see.” Turns out the guy had at least one redeeming quality: good taste in post-relations movies. “Watching  Rushmore , naked, innocence freshly lost, was one of the most beautiful moments of my life,” Headland wrote. “As the slow motion closing shot set to The Faces flashed before me, I was treated to the tears of real love and tenderness I’d hoped my first sexual experience would bring. “Thank you Wes Anderson,” the filmmaker concluded: “You saved Latin. But, for this cinephile, you also saved sex.” Headland also chose Woody Allen’s  Love and Death  and The Coen Brothers’  The Big Lebowski  as landmark films in life. Uncharted Is Re-Charted: Fan Boys Groan As Video Game Adaptation Gets G-Force Writers

On paper, adapting the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune  to the big screen looks like a no-brainer.  In the character of Nate Drake, you essentially have a young Indiana Jones, who escapes a creative array of baddies and one tight scrape after another while tracking down the golden statue of El Dorado. So why can’t Hollywood get this baby on the screen?  Variety reports that Limitless director Neil Burger — who took the helm of the movie last year after David O. Russell ( The Fighter ) left the project — has departed as well.  Instead of bringing a new director on board,   Dark Knigh t franchise producer Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainment and   Spider-Man producer Avid Arad’sArad Productions have hired Marianne and Cormac Wibberley to rewrite the script. Once they have that in hand, they plan to hire a director. The Wibberleys wrote the crowd-pleasing  National Treasure movies and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle , but the groaning you hear out there is coming from  some of the game’s incredibly passionate fans who are looking over the screenwriting team’s other credits and deciding that they don’t like what they see.  Much of the wincing is over G-Force , a cutesy movie the Wibberleys wrote about a special forces team of guinea pigs. The fans of Uncharted do not want cutesy. They even bristled when Russell was talking about incorporating a “family dynamic” into his adaptation. (That said, I really wanted to see Russell make this movie. He proved with The Fighter that he can make an thrilling movie with fully fleshed characters.) The fans of Uncharted want to see the game’s off-the-hook stunt pieces recreated on the screen with the taut, storytelling of the Bourne movies.  Oh yeah, and they really seem to want Castle star Nathan Fillion to play the role of Drake. Is that such a difficult challenge? [ Variety ] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Chloe Moretz Makes A Bloody Good Carrie In First Look At Remake Of Classic Horror Film

It’s time to ruin prom for a whole new generation of teenagers!   EW.com has posted an exclusive photo  of a blood-soaked Chloe Moretz f rom Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce’s remake of   Carrie . Moretz gave me a serious case of deja vu when I saw the photo of her as the title character of Stephen King’s classic 1974 horror novel about an alienated teen with telekinetic powers and a seriously wacko mother. Sissy Spacek,  who played the original Carrie White was fantastic in the role, but she was also in her mid 20s at the time. At 15, Moretz seems more age-appropriate to play the role of a high schooler. Julianne Moore plays Carrie’s mom in a role that Piper Laurie played in the original film.. EW reports that Moore intends for her portrayal to retain some humanity. “This woman has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps several,” Moore tells the publication. “But what’s sad about it for me is that she’s clearly sick and here’s this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill.” Peirce is reportedly modernizing the story for her remake, which will be released in March 2013, so it’s unclear whether Moretz comes to be bathed in blood for the same reasons that Spacek did: a cruel high-school prank that results in Carrie unleashing her telekinetic powers and ensuring that there will be no one in her class left alive to sign her year book.  The good news: she also destroyed the gym. Moretz told EW that she was under some pressure while shooting the scene: ”We only have, like, four chances to get it right,” she said. “Because that stuff stains your hair.” Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. First Look: New Photos From The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2

It is Christmas in August when Summit Entertainment releases more photos from the final installment of the Twilight Saga , Breaking Dawn – Part 2 .  And it just so happens that one of the photos depicts Bella ( Kristen Stewart ), Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and Renesmee, the half-vampire progeny of Bella and Edward rocking around the Christmas tree with some, um, traditionally  human appetizers.  Apparently, the half human side of Suri, I mean, Renesmee still digs Ritz crackers and Hershey Christmas Kisses. I’m guessing the summer sausage is for Jacob.  Okay, so enough about the holidays. Let’s just get to the pictures, which you can find after the jump. Breaking Dawn Part 2 , which reportedly will have at least one big plot surprise that does not follow the book from which its adapted, opens on Nov. 16. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. WATCH: Chris Rock On Why He Talks To An Obama Cut-out in 2 Days in New York: Rick James Wasn’t Available

Barack Obama occupies the same pantheon as late “Superfreak” singer Rick James, according to Chris Rock. In the Julie Delpy-directed 2 Days in New York , Rock plays a Village Voice writer and radio-show host who occasionally carries on one-sided conversations with a life-size cut-out of the president, and at the Cinema Society and MCM-hosted screening of the film in New York on Wednesday, the comic told Movieline pal Grace Randolph why the cardboard Commander in Chief got the nod. “He’s the first black president. You can’t really top him right now,” Rock told Randolph at the Landmark Sunshine Theater on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, adding “And it’s hard to find a cardboard cut-out of Rick James.” Randolph also spoke to Delpy and other cast members of the movie, as well as the Rev. Al Sharpton. Check out the video below. Watch It on YouTube. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

History Fast & Furious: Justin Lin In Talks To Direct L.A. Riots For Universal [VIDEO]

In what could be one of the unlikeliest director-project pairings to come down the pike in some time, Vulture is reporting that Fast & Furious franchise director Justin Lin is talking to Universal Pictures about directing L.A. Riots — a cinematic re-telling of the 1991 uprising that was sparked by four Los Angeles Police Department officers’ brutal beatdown of Rodney King. According to the website, the project was first set up at Universal six years ago, with Spike Lee set to direct a script by Red Tails screenwriter John Ridley, but the studio wouldn’t give the Do The Right Thing  filmmaker the $35 million he required to make the movie he wanted. If Lin gets the green light, he’ll be making the picture for Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, but it’s unclear whether he’ll still be using Ridley’s script. Video of King’s vicious beating during a March 3, 1991 traffic stop became one of the most horrific and indelible images of that decade, and during the riots, the construction worker appeared on TV to utter his now-famous line: “Can we all get along?” In June, King became news again when he was found dead at the bottom of the swimming pool at his California home. The February shooting of unarmed Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch coordinator for a gated community in Sanford, Fla., also recalled the incident. Lin is currently shooting the sixth film in the Fast and Furious franchise, which is slated for a May 24, 2013 release date. According to Vulture, Universal is seeking to keep the director happy “by allowing him to tackle a topic that’s quite a bit more serious”, though budget remains a question. One talent agent told the website: “They didn’t want to make this movie for $35 million with Spike [Lee] four years ago, and with the way the business has changed, I can’t imagine they’re going to spend even $20 million to make it now.” Watch It On YouTube.
