Still arresting minorities by the thousands over mary-crumbs … NYPD Continues Low-Level Marijuana Arrests Mayor DeBlasio promised that forces would no longer focus on low-level mary jane violations and prevent cops from pulling “stop & frisk” searches that clearly target minorities. But an NY congressman is pointing out that it’s all business as usual in NYC, and it’s sending more Blacks and Latinos to jail than anyone else. Via HuffPost : At a press conference outside One Police Plaza in Manhattan on Tuesday, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) pointed to recent data showing that thousands of New Yorkers are getting arrested for possessing pot, most of them minorities. “The new administration promised change, but instead we got more of the same,” Jeffries said, referring to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s campaign pledge to lower arrests for possessing small amounts of marijuana. Data released earlier this month from the New York state Division of Criminal Justice Services shows that from January to March, more than 7,000 individuals were arrested in New York City for possessing small amounts of marijuana, and 86 percent of them were black or Latino. That number of arrests, Jeffries said, puts New York City on track to have just as many low-level marijuana arrests in 2014 as it did in 2013, when nearly 29,000 New Yorkers were busted for low-level marijuana possession. The number of arrests in the first three months of 2014 are higher than they were in either of the last two three-month periods of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration in 2013. The vast majority of marijuana arrests in New York City are for the lowest misdemeanor charge — criminal possession in the fifth degree — in which the arrestee either possessed less than two ounces of marijuana, or had the drug “in public view.” Since 1977, possession of less than 25 grams of marijuana — a little less than an ounce — has been decriminalized in New York state. Under the law, those caught with such a small amount of weed are subject to a $100 violation for a first offense. However, since the late-1990s, NYPD officers have been asking the hundreds of thousands of people they stop on the streets each year empty their pockets. In 2013, 85 percent of those people were black or Latino. When pot comes out of the pocket, it becomes “in public view,” thus allowing police to make an arrest for misdemeanor criminal possession in the fifth degree. Arrestees can face up to three months in jail, and a criminal record. SMH! Yes marijuana is illegal…but this system seems to be in place specifically to place (and keep) Black and Brown people in the justice system over trivial nonsense. What are your thoughts?

Nigerian Military Knows Where Boko Haram Is Keeping Kidnapped School Girls In what should be a huge step to returning the 300 kidnapped girls to their families , the Nigerian military has announced that they know the location at which the kidnapped girls are being held. However, military forces are reluctant to burst into such a delicate situation for fear of harming the girls in the process. Via HuffPost : ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria’s military has located nearly 300 school girls abducted by Islamic extremists but fears using force to try to free them could get them killed, the country’s chief of defense said Monday. Air Marshal Alex Badeh told demonstrators supporting the much criticized military that Nigerian troops can save the girls. But he added, “we can’t go and kill our girls in the name of trying to get them back.” He spoke to thousands of demonstrators who marched to Defense Ministry headquarters in Abuja, the capital. Many were brought in on buses, indicating it was an organized event. Asked by reporters where they had found the girls, Badeh refused to elaborate. “We want our girls back. I can tell you we can do it. Our military can do it. But where they are held, can we go with force?” he asked the crowd. People roared back, “No!” “If we go with force what will happen?” he asked. “They will die,” the demonstrators responded. But in a truly questionable turn of events, it seems that the girls could have been back home under negotiated terms about a week ago. However, the Nigerian president found some reason to leave them in captivity… That appeared to leave negotiation the sole option, but a human rights activist close to negotiators said a deal to swap the girls for detained Boko Haram members was agreed last week and then scuttled at the last minute by President Goodluck Jonathan. The activist who is close to those mediating between Boko Haram extremists and government officials said the girls would have been freed last week Monday. Jonathan had already told British officials that he would not consider an exchange. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. President Jonathan was forced this month to accept international help. American planes have been searching for the girls and Britain, France, Israel and other countries have sent experts in surveillance and hostage negotiation. Jonathan’s reluctance to accept offered help for weeks is seen as unwillingness to have outsiders looking in on what is considered a very corrupt force. What is really happening in Nigeria??? What secrets are so valuable that they’ll gamble on the lives of their own daughters to protect??? SMH. Hopefully with this military knowledge and foreign involvement, these girls can be returned home soon. But at this rate…who knows?

Finally!!!! Boko Haram Preparing To Release Half Of The Kidnapped School Girls Via Telegraph UK reports: Boko Haram has dropped demands for the release of top commanders in talks with the Nigerian government and is prepared to start releasing up to half its kidnapped schoolgirls in coming days, sources close to the group have said. The militant Islamist group, which kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls a month ago, is willing to conduct a “gradual” release of its hostages in return for the release of Boko Haram prisoners in Nigerian jails, it was claimed. In a significant concession, the group has abandoned demands for its top commanders to be released, seemingly aware that this would be politically impossible for the Nigerian government. The Telegraph first reported details of Boko Haram’s offer of an imminent prisoner exchange last Tuesday, when sources close to to some of the militants’ families said that a senior Islamic cleric from northern Nigeria would be appointed to mediate on its behalf with the government. The cleric has since been joined by a former aide to one of the group’s founders. Neither man has been named, possibly for their own safety. While the Nigerian government has insisted that it is not willing to enter prisoner swap negotiations, the source claimed that dialogue had already been going in secret for several days. “Contrary to the public rejection of any swap deal by the Nigerian government, there are some on-the-ground talks taking place,” the source said. “An agreement was reached about two or three days ago in principle to start releasing some prisoners.” He said that among the prisoners that the group wanted released would be wives and families of Boko Haram fighters, some of whom have been taken into custody by the Nigerian government in order to exert emotional pressure on the fighters themselves. “The group also has a list of lower-level fighters that it wants released as well, but they are not high-profile ones,” the source added. He said that in exchange, Boko Haram was willing to start a “gradual” release of around 100 of the girls – possibly beginning as early as the coming the week. “Depending on how the other side responds, the girls will be released in small groups. They will be left at a certain safe location, and the authorities will then be told as to where they can pick them up from.” The mass abduction and the military’s failure to rescue the girls and young women has roused national outrage with protests in major cities. Protesters accused President Goodluck Jonathan of being insensitive to the girl’s plight. What the hell is going on in Nigeria? This recent event will hold Nigeria and it’s corrupt politics more accountable for the future.

According to Page Six: Pamela Anderson has revealed she was molested at the age of six, raped when she was 12 and gang-raped just years later. The former Baywatch star spoke about her ordeal at the launch of her charity, The Pamela Anderson Foundation, at the Cannes Film Festival. The Canadian-born Anderson, who is a long-time animal rights activist, revealed her childhood ordeal during a speech to 200 guests, the Daily Mail reports. She said she “did not have an easy childhood” and “despite loving parents,” she was molested at the age of six by a female babysitter. The 46-year-old then revealed how she was raped at 12 by a 25-year-old man. “I went to a friend’s boyfriend’s house and his older brother decided to teach me backgammon which led into a back massage, which led into rape. My first heterosexual experience,” she said. “He was 25 years old and I was 12.” Anderson went on to reveal how her high-school boyfriend “decided it would be funny to gang-rape me with six friends. Gucci Mane Pleads Guilty To Gun Possession And Will Be In Prison Until 2016 Via TMZ reports: Gucci Mane won’t get out of jail until late 2016 — according to a plea deal the rapper just struck in exchange for copping to a gun possession charge. Gucci pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail, but under Gucci’s plea deal, he’s only expected to face 39 months … minus 10 months credit for time served. Gucci will officially be sentenced in July. Gucci’s been locked up in ATL since September after cops arrested him for packing a loaded handgun (as well as kush). In addition to the jail time, Gucci also faces a fine of $250,000. You going to jail today Gucci! We can’t but to think he needs mental health counseling before being released. Didn’t he push a women from a moving vehicle (among other incidents) a few years ago?
