YG Says L.A. Is ‘Feeling’ His New Single ‘Patty Cake’

‘It’s a club banger, but it sounds different than ‘Toot It and Boot It,’ ‘ rookie rapper tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez YG Photo: MTV News YG scored a big hit with “Toot It and Boot It” and found an even larger audience once 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg joined the Los Angeles native for the remix . But the newly minted XXL cover star — he’s joined by 10 other upstarts for the magazine’s annual Freshman issue — intended to impress with much more than his breakout number. His track “Patty Cake” has been gaining air play. “I got another song on the radio on [L.A.’s] Power 106. It’s a club banger, but it sounds different than ‘Toot It and Boot It,’ ” YG told MTV News. “I’m just waiting on the label to get behind it. Everybody in L.A. is feeling it. “I got some songs. I got some hits,” he added. “I just got to get my label behind me. I’m all the way on the West Coast. So they gotta feel it, they got to get the buzz. So I got to go through the same thing I did with ‘Toot It and Boot It.’ ” Currently, the inked-up rapper is working on his next mixtape, the forthcoming Just Re’d Up, featuring guest spots by Chris Brown, Tyga and Nipsey Hussle, among others, and hosted by DJ Ill Will and DJ Mustard. Mustard doubles as YG’s personal DJ and one of his producers; he helmed the boards for “Patty Cake.” With “Patty Cake,” YG said he’s trying to get the club cracking once again. “To me, it’s something the ladies and the dudes want to hear when they get in the club,” he explained. ” ‘Cause it’s gonna get the girls dancing. And that’s what I like to see when I get in the club.” Are you excited for new music from YG? Let us know in the comments!

The New Orleans rhyme spitter’s second single from his forthcoming Tha Carter IV, “If I Die Today,” arrived online Wednesday (March 23), and the track is a take on Rick Ross’ “I’m Not a Star” from the Miami rapper’s Teflon Don album. Weezy’s version features a new verse from Ross and the same production by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League (Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, T.I.). According to Young Money President Mack Maine, the song was one of the first numbers Wayne heard when he was released from prison in November. The Cash Money MC liked Ross’s “I’m Not A Star” so much he decided to record his own version. “When I was in jail, she let me call her collect/ But if she get greedy, I’mma starve her to death,” Wayne raps. ” … You f— with me wrong, I knock your head off your neck/ The flight too long I got a bed on the jet/ The guns are drawn, and I ain’t talking about a sketch/ I pay these n—as with a reality check.” Last week, during the kickoff of his I Am Still Music Tour in Providence, Rhode Island , Wayne revealed the release date for his highly anticipated project . “May 16, believe that,” Wayne told MTV News. “It can come out tomorrow ’cause I’m so finished. … Tha Carter IV will be dropping May 16. If you’re not doing anything, do me.” What do you think of Weezy’s latest? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Lil Wayne Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)

Snoop Dogg And Wiz Khalifa Boast About Their Stashes In ‘The Weed Iz Mine’

Track is from their upcoming movie ‘High School.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa aren’t at odds on their new track, but the lyricists draw the line at partaking in their recreational activities without chipping in. On the latest track from their forthcoming movie “High School,” Snoop and Wiz retool Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” and Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s “The Girl Is Mine” into an ode to — what else? — their favorite environmental supplement. “The Weed Iz Mine” features both rappers boasting about their pot stashes. “I hear n—-s talk about what they rolling up,” Wiz spits on the synth-heavy number. “Smell what I smoke ‘fore the bag open up.” “This is church music, listen to the choir,” Snoop raps. “To burn my kush you must use fire.” Late last year, the veteran MC and the upstart lyricist announced they were teaming up for a movie and soundtrack venture called “High School.” “We decided to go ahead and say, ‘You know what? Let’s do a movie and a soundtrack and just become, you know, bosom buddies and do what we do ’cause we love what we do and we love each other and at the same time we know what the people want,’ ” Snoop Dogg said . “The people want to see the two generations come together where hip-hop ain’t about old school and new school. It’s just about good music and making good moves and putting something out there that’s classic where people can respect it and say, ‘Yeah, so now, this was some gangsta sh– that really made hip-hop gradually grow to another level.’ ” Related Artists Snoop Dogg Wiz Khalifa

Selena Gomez Says Her Next Album Is ‘More Mature’

‘It is very different, and I’m growing up,’ she says of the yet-untitled summer record. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News Selena Gomez isn’t a little girl anymore. She’s 18, in a high-profile romance and has left Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” behind for less tween fare. Her next step also includes her forthcoming album and the empowering first single “Who Says.” “We haven’t decided [a] title [yet for the album] and we’re dealing with the album artwork, ’cause it is very different and I’m growing up,” she told MTV News. “It’s a lot more mature.” Gomez admits that she really loves stepping out of the Disney shadow to grow up in a big way on this album. “I’m growing,” she said. “I’m constantly changing, and it’s fun being able to express that for my fans. So this album is a huge rave; it really is. It’s funky, it’s different. I’m liking it.” The album will not feature any duets or collaborations, but Gomez does have a wish list just in case she feels the need to throw someone on one of the tracks between now and the summer release date. “All of it is pretty much me,” she said of the yet-untitled album. “I love Bruno Mars; I’m obsessed with him. I love B.o.B. I love Adele’s new record; it’s insane. I would love to even just meet her.” Gomez has previously shared that “there’s a lot more depth [on this album].” She has tracks on it that fully express the wide range of emotions she feels as a young woman in the spotlight. “There is one [song] that I’m completely in love with, and it was written by Pixie Lott, who I am obsessed with,” she said. “And it’s my mom’s favorite song. It’s very sweet. It’s kind of a ballad, but not really. It’s basically about living in the moment; it’s about enjoying right now. I’m very much enjoying right now. I’m in a good place.” What are you expecting from Selena’s next album? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Selena Gomez Related Artists Selena Gomez

Mariah Carey Reportedly Not Joining ‘X Factor’

Pop diva ‘politely declined’ Simon Cowell’s offer to sit on judges’ panel, according to Essence.com. By James Dinh Mariah Carey Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images As anticipation grows for the debut of Simon Cowell’s “X Factor,” there’s one industry vet who will not appear on the reality singing show’s judging panel: Mariah Carey . Despite previous whispers about her joining the celebrity lineup , it appears that the soon-to-be mom has turned down Cowell’s request to judge the talent show, according to Essence.com . While Cowell did approach the iconic pop singer/songwriter with the request, the songstress “politely declined,” as she’s gearing up for the arrival of her twins and writing material for her next studio album. News of Carey’s decision comes just days after the pop megastar’s longtime label boss, L.A. Reid, joined the forthcoming Fox show . On Thursday, the record executive resigned from his chairman position at Island Def Jam for a spot on the judges’ panel. Reid joined the record label in 2004 and is most noted for assisting Carey with her comeback the following year. With Reid free to take up a position at Sony Music, the label that will provide the “X Factor” winner with a recording contract, rumors have swirled that Carey will wrap up her contract with Universal Music Group and follow the executive to Sony Music. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out the remaining judges who have signed on for “X Factor.” Last week, Cowell told MTV News that he was days away from unveiling the lineup. He also opened up about his efforts to collect a top-notch panel for the show. “It’s gonna be a balance between guys and girls, and it should be a balance between people who have been singers and also, like me, have worked behind the scenes and know what they’re talking about it,” the former “American Idol” judge MTV News. “It will be the best judging panel so far. I promise you: If I get the people I want, I’m really happy.” Who do you want to see judge “X Factor”? Share your ideas in the comments! Related Artists Mariah Carey
