Lloyd Taps Lil Wayne, Andre 3000 For New Tune

The track, titled ‘Miss That Pu—,’ will appear on the Chicago R&B singer’s upcoming album, King of Hearts . By Jayson Rodriguez Lloyd Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images Five years ago, Lloyd scored a hit with “You,” a swooning, mid-tempo track from his sophomore effort, Street Talk , that featured Lil Wayne. For the remix of that tune, the then-Murder Inc. Records artist (Ja Rule, Ashanti) recruited Nas and OutKast’s Andre 3000, the latter of whom delivered a poetic verse reminding fans of his MC pedigree. Now, it looks like Lloyd has locked down both Wayne and Andre again for a track called “Miss That Pu—” that will be featured on his forthcoming album, King of Hearts . “I liked the way it used to be,” the R&B singer told Vibe magazine about the theme of the racy tongue-in-cheek number, for which his guest rappers have yet to deliver their verses. King of Hearts , which is due out April 19, will be Lloyd’s first album since he signed a deal with Interscope Records. Lloyd, who is working closely with producer Polow Da Don (Fergie, Usher, Keri Hilson) on the project, has gone on record saying that they are making music that’s comparable to some of the greatest producer/singer combinations of all time. “In my opinion, and this is a bold statement, but it’s like Michael [Jackson] and Quincy [Jones], it’s like Justin [Timberlake] and Timbaland, Usher and Jermaine [Dupri],” Lloyd told MTV News last year. “It’s that consistency that you can only find from really finding the right chemistry with the right person. As an artist, I can speak for everyone when I say chemistry is a big, big part of success.” Related Artists Lloyd Lil Wayne OutKast Andre 3000

50 Cent’s ‘Things Fall Apart’ Premieres In Miami Next Week

Fif reportedly lost 50 pounds for Mario Van Peebles-directed film. By Alvin Blanco 50 Cent Photo: David Livingston/ Getty Images It may have taken 50 Cent losing pounds to be recognized as a weighty actor. The film “Things Fall Apart,” which stars 50 Cent as a college football player stricken with cancer, will make its world premiere March 5 at the Miami International Film Festival . Last year, 50 Cent drew headlines over his commitment to playing the role of Deon Barnes, a University of Michigan football player whose hopes of an NFL career are derailed by a cancer diagnoses. For the role, 50 Cent reportedly lost more than 50 pounds. Stills from the film, directed by Mario Van Peebles, revealed that the rapper looking shockingly emaciated and nearly unrecognizable. “50 Cent’s physical transformation combined with Mario’s vision for the film kept the story fresh, gritty and powerful,” Miami International Film Festival Executive Director Jaie Laplante told AllHipHop.com . “Fans in Miami will have a unique opportunity to see the film well before the rest of the world does.” The film also lightened the Queens rapper’s pockets, since besides writing the script, he produced and financed the picture himself too, via his Cheetah Vision Films production company. Director Van Peebles also acts in the film along with Ray Liotta, who plays Barnes’ doctor, and Lynn Whitfield. 50 is taking the actor/rapper/mogul tag seriously. He recently signed on to star in a crime drama called “Freelancers,” which is going to be directed by Jesse Terrero. On the music side, the rapper is getting the buzz going on his forthcoming album, Black Magic, releasing a couple of new songs (“When I Come Back,” “Run Up on Me” freestyle) online to whet fans’ appetites. 50 also recently followed in the footsteps of Dr. Dre and launched his own high-end headphone line called Sleek by 50 Cent . Simon Cowell Breaks Down ‘X Factor’ Rules, Reveals Audition Dates

‘You will have never seen a show like this before in America,’ former ‘American Idol’ judge says in new promo. By James Dinh Simon Cowell Photo: Ian Derry / FOX While “American Idol” draws closer to the televised stage of the singing competition, the U.S. version of “X Factor” will soon begin its countrywide search for the next global superstar. In a new promo for the highly anticipated competition, Simon Cowell talks about the rules for the forthcoming series, promising that America has yet to see a show like this. “The show is basically a singing competition with a twist,” the music executive says in the promo. “The auditions are open to anyone who can sing. You can be 12; you can be 112. You can be in a group; you can have 100 people in the group. It doesn’t matter.” Cowell goes on to explain that the contestants are later separated into four categories: young guys, young girls, older singers and vocal groups. However, “X Factor,” which premieres in September, isn’t just a challenge between talented singers, but also between judges, who will mentor contestants once they make the final rounds. “I’ll assure you one thing. You will have never seen a show like this before in America and a lot is going to happen that will surprise you,” Cowell continued. “But as a platform, if you’re a performer, this is going to be a great opportunity for you.” In addition to the contest’s age freedom, Cowell explained that contestants will have to audition in front of a live audience, saying, “If you can come out and nail it in front of 3,000 or 4,000 people, then you’ve got the makings of a star.” Ultimately, the former “Idol” judge said he’s serious about his search for talent in America. “I’m going to come back to America and say, ‘I’m serious about this’ and ‘I’m serious about finding talent,’ ” he said. “I’m going to guarantee the winner of this competition 5 million cash. It’s a $5 million audition, and you’re going to get the cash if you win; you just better be good.” “X Factor” audition dates, according to a press release:

Lil Wayne Is ‘Entering Uncharted Territory’ In Hip-Hop, Lloyd Says

‘It’s like witnessing what rock and roll stars would experience,’ the ‘BedRock’ crooner tells Mixtape Daily of his longtime homey. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Rebecca Thomas Lloyd Photo: MTV News Celebrity Favorites: Lloyd R&B singer Lloyd has had a close up look at Lil Wayne’s career for some time now. The two collaborated on Lloyd’s “You” and “Girls Around the World” and later on Young Money’s breakout “BedRock,” which featured the former Murder Inc. star riding shotgun with Weezy, Drake, Nicki Minaj and company. Now, as the pair are working on their forthcoming projects — Lloyd’s King of Hearts and Wayne’s Tha Carter IV — the singer, who hopes to get the rapper on his new album, said the New Orleans MC is reaching rock-star status. “He’s entering uncharted territory, I think, for a lot of people in our generation in hip-hop history,” Lloyd told Mixtape Daily. “When Wayne walks into the building, it’s electric. It’s almost like witnessing, I would imagine, what rock and roll stars would experience earlier on in history. You don’t get to experience a lot of that in hip-hop, usually there’s a lot of hatred or a crabs-in-the-bucket mentality going on. But I think with Wayne, he’s overcome so much that the people are really embracing him across the board.” The “Lay It Down” singer has some good perspective in making that declaration: He attended Weezy’s first post-prison performance in Las Vegas and then rocked with him at the Bayou Classic, the annual football clash in Wayne’s hometown between Grambling State and Southern University. Next up, Wayne and director Hype Williams are putting the final touches on the rapper’s “6 Foot 7 Foot” video featuring Young Money member Cory Gunz. The clip was scheduled to debut on MTV last month, but was later postponed. The Bangladesh-produced standout is the first single from Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne’s first release since completing an eight-month prison in New York for a 2007 gun bust.
