Taylor Swift’s ‘Mine’ Reflects On One Of Her Crushes

New single about ‘a boy I liked at a certain time,’ says singer. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift in her “Mine” video Photo: Big Machine Records Forget Drew, the inspiration for “Teardrops On My Guitar” or Joe Jonas, who sparked “Forever & Always.” . When Taylor Swift sat down to write her latest hit song, “Mine,” she had a different dude, who remains a mystery, on the brain. “I was reflecting back on a boy I liked at a certain time,” she told Rolling Stone about the tune, which will appear on her forthcoming album Speak Now . “The song is about what it would be like if I actually let my guard down.” Speak Now comes out on October 25, and Swift is bracing for the onslaught of craziness that will ensue as the drop date nears. But she loves the chaos. “I’m obsessed with being busy. It’s hectic and nonstop,” she said. “But I’m so ready.” What Swift wasn’t ready for was “Mine” leaking online earlier this month . After its early arrival, the song was rushed to radio and iTunes and subsequently debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Swift admits that while she appreciated the overwhelmingly positive response to the track, she in no way was expecting it to be released prematurely. “[My manager] said, ‘I don’t want you to panic.’ And I said, ‘The song leaked, didn’t it?'” she said. “I turned on my phone and there were texts saying, ‘Congratulations.’ A leak is so out of my comfort zone, but it ended up good in the end. It made me so emotional that I started crying.” The video for “Mine” premieres this Friday (August 27) at 8:30 p.m. ET on MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com. Are you excited for Taylor Swift’s new album? ‘American Idol’ Winner Lee DeWyze’s Debut Due November 16

‘I’m really proud of what I’ve done so far,’ he tells MTV News of yet-untitled album. By By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by James Lacsina Lee DeWyze Photo: MTV News The major-label debut from season-nine “American Idol” winner Lee DeWyze will be released November 16. So far, that’s about all we know about the yet-untitled CD from the suburban Chicago singer/songwriter, who beat out dreadlocked soul mama Crystal Bowersox for this season’s crown thanks to an all-American story about his rise from humble paint-store clerk to household name. The soft-spoken DeWyze, 24, has been writing and recording songs for the album while logging miles on this summer’s American Idols Live! Tour and said in a statement accompanying the announcement of the release date that he’s been “very fortunate” to record with some amazing songwriters for the disc. “I can’t wait for everyone to hear my debut album.” Technically, it’s his third album , but it’s his major-label debut, since he released two previous efforts on the small Chicago label WuLi Records: 2009’s Slumberland and 2007’s So I’m Told. On those discs, he honed the everyman, sensitive growl that helped him win “Idol,” where his slow and steady rise and humble demeanor catapulted him past season-long favorite Bowersox. MTV News recently caught up with DeWyze at the Los Angeles stop of the “Idol” tour and he spilled a bit of detail on the songs he’s been working on and the sound fans can expect to hear. “I’ve written on every song. … I’m more or less looking forward to showing everybody what I do outside of the show and outside of this. To be able to be my own artist and do my own thing, I’m really looking forward to.” He said he couldn’t talk about which artists and songwriters he’s working with but hinted that they were ones he’s listened to and is a fan of. “What’s really most important about the album for me is keeping it true to what I want to do and the kind of music I like to make and having it be real, not just some words thrown together,” he said. “I like to write about love and relationships and emotions and feeling … being down and up. I like writing about things that everybody experiences and to be able to put that into my music … it’s going to be fun.” As if the grueling “Idol” tour isn’t hard enough, DeWyze said he’s flying in and out of New York, Los Angeles and Nashville on his days off to write and record the songs. “I have a lot of say in it,” he said of crafting the sound and mood of the disc. “I have a lot more say than people would think. It’s going to be really good. I’m really proud of what I’ve done so far.” Though there’s no official title yet, DeWyze said he has a few strong contenders. “These are things I dreamt about doing years ago,” he said of working on a major-label album. “To be able to actually do it now is pretty cool.” There has been no word yet on the release date of Bowersox’s album, though the runner-up’s disc has typically hit stores a few weeks after the winner’s effort. ‘I’m not holding anything back,’ the former ‘Hills’ star says. By Mawuse Ziegbe Spencer Pratt Photo: Jean Baptiste Lacroix/ Getty Images Spencer Pratt appears determined to ride out his breakup with Heidi Montag the same way the pair spent their short-lived marriage together: in the spotlight. The former “Hills” star told Us Weekly that he’s planning to divulge details about his relationship with his reality co-star and soon-to-be ex-wife in an upcoming tome. “My last book, ‘How to Be Famous,’ didn’t make the New York Times best-seller list because it was in the self-help section,” Pratt said. “This one is going to be totally different. I’m not holding anything back.” Pratt also revealed that the tell-all will highlight Montag’s strained relationship with her mother, Darlene , which was chronicled on “The Hills.” Montag has fired back about the forthcoming book. She recently told , “This is exactly why I left him.” Montag said she plans to halt the release of the book and told the website, “Right now, I’m looking into my legal options.” Pratt and Montag recently signed divorce papers , and their split is expected to become finalized in another six months. Earlier this year, Montag said the couple had grown apart , telling People magazine: “We just want different things in life.” However, Pratt put the deterioration of their relationship more bluntly, saying, “We love each other, but I’m a famewhore , and I’ll never grow out of it.” The planned tell-all isn’t the first time Pratt has milked his onscreen celebrity to work the publishing game. Keri Hilson Debuts New Single, ‘Breaking Point’

Timbaland-produced track is first offering from her sophomore album, No Boys Allowed. By Jayson Rodriguez Keri Hilson Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Keri Hilson debuted her new single, “Breaking Point,” on Atlanta radio Wednesday, the first offering from her forthcoming sophomore album, No Boys Allowed. The perky-but-slow number was produced by Timbaland, who, along with Polow Da Don, will executive-produce Hilson’s new project. On the track, Hilson is feisty and voices the frustration of women who are neglected and taken advantage of by men. “Every woman has a breaking point, y’all,” she sings on the chorus. “Hey, I know you know, some women can be lied to, cheated on and beat on/ Somebody know, hey, every woman has a breaking point, y’all/ Tell me how we put up with that/ You cant forget that/ See, I done did that/ But this time, there’s a limit to my love.” No Boys Allowed is slated for a late-2010 release, and a video for “Breaking Point” is set to be shot next month. Earlier this year, Hilson told MTV News that her travels around the world would influence her next album. “Everywhere I travel, I get music from that region of the world,” she said. “I’ve been to Nigeria, I’ve been to South Africa, three cites in Africa [in all]. I gather music from these regions, and African music is very drum-heavy. It was very inspiring. I’m definitely going to be using some of that inspiration.” In addition to Timbaland and Polow Da Don, Ryan Leslie is expected to produce material for No Boys Allowed. Leslie said he and Hilson have worked on music together, and one song in particular he described in April sounds like it would please Timbaland. “One of my favorite productions while I was out there is a Keri record, but it’s very reminiscent of Aaliyah,” Leslie said. “I remember making the record and her saying, ‘Man, [Timbaland] is gonna love this’ — we hadn’t played it for him yet — and saying, ‘It’s gonna remind him of baby girl.’ ” What do you think about Keri Hilson’s new song? Katy Perry Had To Escape L.A. To Write ‘Teenage Dream’

‘Everybody climbing on top of each other to get to that next step on the ladder … sometimes L.A. can get exhausting,’ Perry says. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Photo: Capitol Records Katy Perry decided to embrace her inner teenage girl when she sat down to write the title track from her forthcoming Teenage Dream album, out Tuesday. And she felt the only place she could get in touch with those warm, fuzzy feelings was her hometown of Santa Barbara, California. The song, which she co-wrote with and was produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Benny Blanco, recalls a simpler time when love felt like the first time. “Well, going to Santa Barbara, which isn’t very far from L.A., it was just like it brought me back home and it took me out of this fast-paced L.A.,” she told MTV News. “Everybody climbing on top of each other to get to that next step on the ladder … sometimes L.A. can get exhausting.” In fact, it was that song that dictated how the entire album would play out. “I wanted to call it Teenage Dream because, really, there’s a song on the record … I wrote that song in Santa Barbara and it was a really pure moment for me because that’s where I’m from. And it was where I started my creative juices, and it kind of exudes this euphoric feeling like everyone remembers what their teenage dreams were,” she said. “All the girls that were on your poster walls … and I want to continue to be one of those … teenage wet dreams.” The track, however, wasn’t all that easy to get right. “I’m in the studio fighting with them to change the melody, or I’m fighting for the best lyric at all times,” she told Billboard earlier this year. “I think we rewrote ‘Teenage Dream’ five times for 10 days straight. On the last day, I was so happy to finally get somewhere that we all agreed on.” Perry said that there is a bottom line to the euphoria of the track. “That song is kind of like feeling that way when you were a teenager: really emotional, really invested. … It’s intense being in love and being a teenager. That’s what ‘Teenage Dream’ is about.” Can you hear Katy’s teenage angst in the song? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream Sneak Preview

Are Weezer Planning A Pinkerton Tour?

Bassist Brian Bell expresses interest in touring around the 1996 album’s reissue. By James Montgomery Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images From the sound of things, it’s looking like it might be 1996 all over again for Weezer (minus Matt Sharp, more than likely). Because they’re planning to launch a tour in support of the reissue of Pinkerton, their willfully difficult sophomore album that sputtered out of the gate but has since gone on to be regarded as a classic and a touchstone of so-called “second wave” emo. That’s according to Weezer guitarist Brian Bell, who gave an interview this past weekend at the Mile High Music Festival in Colorado, saying the band were kicking around the idea of doing a tour where they’ll play Pinkerton in its entirety. “We … have a reissue of Pinkerton coming out with new packaging,” he said. “And, I’m praying, a Pinkerton tour, where we’ll play all the songs on [the album] soon.” That’s good news for fans of Weezer’s classic lineup — Rivers Cuomo, Bell, Patrick Wilson and bassist Sharp, who left the group in 1998 and has since released solo albums and music with the Rentals — though, at the moment, the idea of doing a Pinkerton tour might just be that: an idea. When contacted by MTV News, a spokesperson for Weezer had no comment about Bell’s interview, and though Amazon lists an October 5 release date for the reissue of Pinkerton, a spokesperson for Geffen Records — the band’s former home and the label that will apparently be putting the album out — could not be reached for comment. In the meantime, Weezer are gearing up for the September 14 release of Hurley, their in-no-way-based-on-“Lost” album that just so happens to feature “Lost” actor Jorge Garcia on the cover . Trey Songz’s ‘Bottoms Up’ Video Premieres

Clip features Nicki Minaj in a ‘funhouse’ atmosphere. By Jayson Rodriguez Trey Songz in the video for “Bottoms Up” Photo: Atlantic Records Trey Songz premiered the first video from his forthcoming album Pleasure, Pain & Pleasure on BET’s 106 & Park Tuesday night, the up-tempo “Bottoms Up,” featuring Nicki Minaj . The clip was directed by Anthony Mandler (Jay-Z, Rihanna, Drake) and shows the singer in a funhouse type of environment. Clad in all black, from his suit to his dark sunglasses, Trey Songz is surrounded by women dancing seductively behind glass walls. Themes of bondage and voyeurism are teased throughout the clip as the singer makes his way around the space, while quick edits and lighting changes create a frenetic vibe. Songz described the video as a tool that “heightens” the energy of the track. ” ‘Bottoms Up,’ I feel, is a very creative video,” he told MTV News earlier this month from the set. “[It’s] different from me or what’s expected from me and anything I’ve shot for that matter. Anthony used a lot of different shooting techniques. I think it heightens whatever it is that the song has already — the drive, the vigor, the club anthem, the energy in the record is definitely heightened in the video.” Nicki Minaj guests both on the song and in the clip, and Songz said the femcee did an “excellent job” contributing to “Bottoms Up.” Minaj spits, “Yelling, all around the world, do you hear me/ Do you like my body, Anna Nicki?/ Rest in peace to Anna Nicole Smith.” Minaj sports a blond wig and snug black bustier in the video. “She definitely comes in and spazzes,” the singer said. “She brings a different energy to the record. I wanted her to take it to a different place and that’s what she did, even in the video.” What do you think about Trey Songz’s “Bottoms Up” video? Let us know in the comments! James Cameron Discusses Sending 3-D Cameras (And People) To Mars

‘I want to make films about this and get people excited about [space] exploration,’ the ‘Avatar’ director says. By Kara Warner James Cameron Photo: MTV News For Oscar-winning director James Cameron, whose box-office clout at this point seems unmatchable, making mega-blockbusters like “Avatar” and “Titanic” might not be enough. So next year, Cameron is taking his filmmaking expertise to the final frontier. In April, it was announced that Cameron had partnered with NASA to help build a 3-D camera mounted atop the Mars rover Curiosity for a mission planned for launch next year. When MTV News caught up with the filmmaker, we asked if, in addition to sending 3-D cameras to Mars, he’s thinking about how to send humans there. “Oh, yeah, I’ve been thinking about the issues of sending human beings to Mars for a long time,” he admitted during a press day for the re-release of “Avatar.” “I started 11 years ago working on a Mars project that led me to doing a lot of research, meeting a lot of people at NASA, getting involved with people, and then at a certain point, a couple years ago, they said, ‘Wait a minute, this guy knows a lot about Mars, he knows a lot about 3-D cameras, zoom lenses, motion photography, all the things we’re incorporating into this new camera system. Why don’t we bring him in?’ ” Cameron said one thing led to another, and suddenly, a partnership was born. “I’m actually on the team developing the new camera for the Mars Science Laboratory, which launches next year,” he said, adding that if all goes well, we could see 3-D photos of the red planet in the very near future. “Theoretically, we will have a motion-image stereoscopic camera on the surface of Mars in 2011, and it will be making the first 3-D movie on Mars — well, it’s not a movie, but we’ll be taking 3-D shots.” As for humans making the trip, Cameron added that it will require a couple of things — namely, a shift in our national interest. “The public has to want it — that’s number one — because it has to be paid for. I think commercial, new, lean enterprises like [PayPal co-founder] Elon Musk’s company SpaceX , which is going to be creating human transportation to the space station. They’re a good candidate to build the systems that could get us to Mars, for example,” he said. “But it still requires the national will, and right now, that national will, quite frankly, isn’t up to the task. People don’t care about it enough, which is why I want to make films about this and get people excited about exploration.” Cameron ended his thoughts with a question for the public: “Frankly, what would you rather spend your money on: pointless wars in the Middle East to support our oil addiction or going to another planet?” What do you think about Cameron’s involvement with NASA and space exploration?
