Rabid Adam Lambert Fans Line Up 24 Hours Before New York Show

For Lambert, ‘I’d sleep on the sidewalk again,’ one fan says. By Jim Cantiello Adam Lambert Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Scorching temperatures and puzzled looks from passersby could not keep Adam Lambert fans from lining up outside New York’s Nokia Theatre a full 24 hours in advance of his Glam Nation Tour stop. For Eileen Monahan, spending the night sleeping on a “disgusting” Times Square sidewalk in front of the venue was the only way to guarantee she had the best spot inside the general-admission concert. “I want to be up front,” insisted Monahan, before admitting, “[For Adam], I’d sleep here again.” While Monahan only trekked from the Bronx, many traveled thousands of miles to see their favorite artist rock New York City. Fans from Denmark, Venezuela, England, Japan and Singapore mingled with Georgia peaches, Connecticut natives and Californians, making Adam’s Glam Nation a truly international affair. Even Peru had a message for Adam, via superfan Lilli Becker. “Peru represent! We love you, baby! I have a llama for you,” exclaimed Becker, just in case Adam ever wants a ride over the Andes. Perhaps the most exotic fans on the Lambert line were the dudes. Brooklyn native Chris Leavitt fessed up that his lady was the one to convert him into a Glamily member initially, but now he’s excited to “glam out” with the best of them. (His homemade jeans — complete with hand-drawn dragon and space rocks — certainly spoke volumes.) Elsewhere, 17-year old Brooklyn boy Billy Tropea was stoked to make Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation his first concert experience ever. “His hair is friggin’ awesome. I really want his hair,” he said. “I’m very jealous.” Some of Adam’s more seasoned followers insist they haven’t been this gung-ho about a musician since the days of Beatlemania. “I was still stalking Paul McCartney for awhile. I was on his website all the time, but now … sorry, Paul. Adam’s taken your place,” said Claudia Cohill. Armed with bags of snacks, bottles of water, and enough homemade signs to keep office supply stores in business through 2020, fans passed the time by taking bathroom breaks at a nearby McDonalds and dishing about their favorite glamtastic performances (his sultry six-minute acoustic take on “Whole Lotta Love,” which he debuted on tour, seems to be #1 for most). As the mass of Lambert lovers stretched around the block toward West 45th street, fans promised each other there would be no shoving once the doors opened at 7 p.m. “We made friends with people [in line]. We like being fair. No cutting,” promised 20-year-old Melanie Pellegrino. But if any latecomers try to sneak their way up front, the early birds are ready to throw some ‘bows. “I’m willing to cut a bitch!” one joked. Lambert’s tour moves on to Connecticut and New Jersey after his sold-out shows in New York. Related Artists Adam Lambert

Miley Cyrus’ MTV Live-Stream Show: The Good Girl Grows Up

During six-song set in L.A., singer speaks her mind and performs ‘Who Owns My Heart’ for the first time. By James Montgomery Miley Cyrus performs at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on Monday Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Her new album is available now. She has a brash new attitude to go along with it. And both of those things were on display Monday night (June 21), as Miley Cyrus took to the House of Blues in Los Angeles for a live-streaming concert called, appropriately enough, “Miley Cyrus: Live in L.A.” Her six-song set — streamed on MTV.com — showcased songs from her just-released Can’t Be Tamed and gave the 17-year-old Cyrus a chance to get a bit rebellious, speaking her mind on a host of topics (including abusive relationships and gay rights), prowling the stage with purpose and even working a profanity or two into the mix. She kicked things off with the title track from Tamed, a strutting, steamy thing that saw her spitting lyrics, tossing her hair, popping her hips and even re-enacting the faux kiss she shared with a female dancer earlier this month on “Britain’s Got Talent” (though, perhaps in the spirit of equal opportunity, she also shared a fake smooch with a male dancer). But it wasn’t all sass. At song’s end, Cyrus showed off her pipes a bit too, extending a “knoooooow” to glorious lengths. That was followed by another Tamed track, “Who Owns My Heart” (which Cyrus introduced by telling the rapt audience that it was the first time she’d ever performed the track live), which galloped along on a shuffling beat and was given added punch thanks to the addition of a live band. There was some heavy panting from Cyrus and a big-time chorus — “Who owns my heart/ Is it love, or is it art?” — that had the crowd shouting along. Loudly. She changed things up a bit with “Liberty Walk,” a song she co-wrote and dedicated to “women who are stuck in abusive relationships … to empower them.” The song — which features a stomping beat and even a bit of rapping from MC — also gave her the chance to slip a couple of “sh–s” by the censors too … much to the delight of the audience. Up next was her cover of Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” which featured some genuinely windswept guitar work, but not Poison main man Bret Michaels (the two performed the tune together last week on “Good Morning America” ) though she did dedicate the song to him and urged the audience to “pray” for his continued health (she also said the song was her mom’s favorite). “Rose” was followed by the anthemic “Robot,” which saw the reappearance of her backup dancers, and then the MTV.com live stream ended with “Heart Beats for Love,” a power-packed ballad that Cyrus introduced by saying that she wrote it “mostly for my gay fans,” adding that she abhorred the fact that, “We have people on this earth who hate someone for loving another.” She then launched herself into the song, eyes closed, making a pair of peace signs with her hands, and by the time the tune had reached its crescendo, everyone in the audience was doing the same, showing (much like everything else on this night) not just the power and confidence of Cyrus’ new songs, but the sway she holds over her fans too. Sway she’s apparently decided to use for good. And, really, that speaks a lot louder than some fake girl-on-girl action any day of the week. What did you think of Miley’s six-song set? Lil Boosie Could Face Further Charges Following Murder Indictment

Baton Rouge DA says rapper is under investigation for five other killings. By Gil Kaufman Lil Boosie Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images In addition to an indictment on first-degree murder charges handed down by a grand jury on Thursday, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rapper Lil Boosie (born Torrence Hatch) could be facing additional murder counts based on an ongoing police investigation into five unsolved killings in the area. According to The Advocate, Thursday’s indictment — which stemmed from an incident in October that left 35-year-old Terry Boyd dead after two men fired shots through a window in his home — is part of what prosecutors are calling a murder-for-hire case. East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III told the paper that investigators are looking into whether Boosie, 27, and others are involved in at least five other killings in the area since early last year. “We’re investigating the others in a similar fashion,” Moore said. “We are investigating the common pattern of these killings and money.” Boosie, already imprisoned since November for a probation violation, was also indicted on Thursday on multiple drug-possession charges and for an alleged scheme to smuggle illicit substances into the jail where he is being held. The Advocate reported that Boosie; girlfriend Walnita Decuir, 25; former correctional officer Joshua Wilson, 27, and fellow inmate Stacey Riley, 36, were all indicted on charges that they conspired to smuggle contraband, which included drugs such as codeine, marijuana, ecstasy and synthetic marijuana — into Dixon Correctional Institute, where Boosie is being held. Boosie is not entitled to post bond on the first-degree murder charge and will remain incarcerated while that case moves forward. Moore declined to say how much money Boosie allegedly paid to have Boyd killed, who pulled the trigger or why Boyd was targeted. Two other men, Michael Louding and Adrian Pittman, were also indicted on similar charges earlier this month in connection with Boyd’s killing. In total, investigators are looking at six slayings over a 14-month period, from the February 9, 2009, shooting death of local rapper Chris “Nussie” Jackson to an April 1 double-murder of two local men. In September, Boosie pleaded guilty to a third-offense marijuana possession charge and under a plea deal a judge was expected to sentence him to 10 years in prison with all but the first two years suspended, which would mean he’d be eligible for parole in one year. But after Boosie violated the terms of the deal in November by leaving his house during confinement, the judge doubled the term. Now, Moore told the paper, he is going to ask the judge to revoke the deal and resentence Boosie to the original 10-year term. A district attorney said the death penalty was not out of the question for Boosie in the murder case. A spokesperson for the rapper could not be reached for comment at press time. David Guetta Wants To Drop Dance Beats On Rihanna’s Next LP

The superstar French DJ/ producer tells MTV News he and the pop diva have discussed a collaboration. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Matt Elias and Akshay Bhansali Rihanna Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images When Rihanna released her Rated R last fall, she showed fans that she was in a darker, more serious mood. Tracks like “Russian Roulette” and “Hard” were decidedly more introspective than her past club bangers. But if superstar French DJ David Guetta has his way, he’ll have Rih back to singing tunes like her mega-hit “Umbrella.” “Well, you know I’m a DJ, so I make beats that make you wanna dance,” Guetta told MTV News at the Activision E3 party in Los Angeles. “And I think she was one of the first to do that in that urban world, so you know, I think it would be good for her to do it again.” While the producer already has some material in mind for the pop star, he said it was just a matter of scheduling. “We[‘re] thinking of doing something together, yes,” he revealed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah [the beat’s ready], we just have to make sure it’s okay with her schedule and my schedule cause we … this is what happens. Unfortunately, it’s not only about the music anymore, it’s also about schedules, which is really boring but, you know.” Dutch DJ/ producer Afrojack has also gotten behind the boards, Guetta said, crafting what he hopes will be the next big Rihanna hit. “Like, he was in the studio with me the first time [after] he finished the new song for Rihanna,” Guetta recalled of Afrojack. “He was like, ‘Oh, my God! You gotta hear this! It’s crazy!’ I was expecting some crazy club sh–. He played me that track and it was a good track. I think pop-wise it’s a fatter sound. Musically, it’s as high a level as RedOne, Lady Gaga’s producer.” Rihanna has been vocal about bringing up the energy level on her next album. ” Rated R, I love the sound of it, in terms of the bass,” Rihanna told MTV Korea in February. “I really like the bottom, the grime of it. But if I were to combine that with more energetic, up-tempo pop records, then I think that will be a happy marriage. And that’s where we’ll probably go next.” Where would you like to see Rihanna go musically on her next album? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Rihanna David Guetta

Lee DeWyze Admits ‘American Idol’ Theme Weeks Were ‘Frustrating’

‘There’s some songs I never would have sang in a million years, but I signed up for it,’ he says. By Katie Byrne Lee DeWyze Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Fox Lee DeWyze proved on “American Idol” that everyone truly loves an underdog. He might not have started out as a bold-faced name on season nine, but his consistent growth from ball-of-nerves to confident rocker resonated with America and landed him the coveted crown on Wednesday night. We caught up with Lee on Friday (May 28) to talk about the show’s frustrating theme weeks, how he chose U2’s “Beautiful Day” as his first single and what his upcoming album will sound like. Q : The judges often talk about showing who you’ll be as an artist, but then you’re forced to sing songs out of your comfort zone with the different theme weeks. Was that frustrating? A : I think a big part about “American Idol” that scares people and has, I’m sure, stopped people from trying out is the fact that you do have to do things that aren’t necessarily your genre. You’re given a song, and you do have some say in it, but you go with whatever song you have to go with. You take that song, and the judges always say, “Make it your own! Make it your own!” And sometimes it sounds repetitive when they say that. … I just wanted to take every song and make it sound like a song that Lee sang. The judges credited me; they said, “You had some great arrangements.” We were given free reign to arrange songs the way we wanted. That was what got me through that part, because if it was just “Go up there and sing the songs exactly like they’re written,” then that would have been a lot more difficult than it was. When we did Shania Twain Week , that was a rough week for me, because it’s so out of my element. But I did what I could with the song. It’s part of the game, though. That’s what “American Idol” is: It’s “go up on the stage, play a cover song, and do the best you can your way and make them original.” I think that I was able to do that. It was frustrating at times, I won’t lie. It was. Because there’s some songs I never would have sang in a million years, but I signed up for it, and that’s the rules. You play by ’em, and you get by as best you can. Q : This season, you also have a cover song as your first single. How did you feel about that, and how did you choose that particular song? A : I like that song a lot. It’s a really good song. Is it something that’s necessarily in my genre? No. But again, there were songs on the table, and that was the one I thought would represent the moment the best, because this year they didn’t have an original song written for this specifically. Whatever the reasons for that are — there’s reasons. [ Laughs. ] I don’t know all the ups and downs of the behind-the-scenes stuff. It’s just been a big game of “play by the rules.” If it was up to me, there were certain things I would have done differently. Like onstage, maybe a little bit longer sets would have been cool; to be able to get into the song, instead of just “ready, go.” But again, that’s all part of it. Just being able to accept it was the hard part. But then, once you accept it, you can just roll with it. You can make the songs your own, and then move on. Q : What artists could you see yourself channeling on your upcoming album? A : I just got the Kings of Leon album [ Only by the Night ]. I liked their first albums a lot; they were a little harder. I really dig their newest album. I like that sound. That’s a sound I go for a lot of the time. It’s very gritty, but at the same time, it’s got great hooks and great lyrics. They break it down, and they can be a little more chill [or] a little more heavy. I’m always looking for new music. I’m going to be listening to a lot of different things for inspiration. Q : Were you able to talk to Simon Cowell after the show? A : I did see Simon [at the “Idol” wrap party], and we cheers’ed, and he said, “Congratulations,” and told me he’s proud of me, and he’s excited to be working with me. And I told him, “Thanks for the opportunity,” because without “American Idol,” I wouldn’t have had this platform to start a career on a major level. It was cool. We got to spend a little time together and talk. And it was a moment I won’t forget, because that was a big moment for me. Will you follow Lee’s post-“Idol” career? Let us know in the comments! ‘American Idol’ Experts Say Tim Urban Tried Too Hard

‘He made an ambitious song choice this week and it did him in,’ one expert says. By Gil Kaufman Tim Urban Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images There are worse ways to fail than being too ambitious or too nice. But for booted “American Idol” finalist “Teflon” Tim Urban, it was a combination of his sunny persona and decision to stretch outside his comfort zone that contributed to his undoing on the show. After Urban was eliminated during Wednesday night’s “Idol Gives Back” special, some “Idol” experts said they weren’t shocked — and might have been a bit relieved. “Tim Urban was the little engine that could … not stop smiling,” said MTV News’ “American Idol” expert Jim Cantiello . “He went from being one of the worst semi-finalists to being one of the most well-liked contestants in a matter of weeks thanks to his ‘kill ’em with kindness’ attitude toward the especially nasty judges.” Even though Simon Cowell was annoyed by Urban’s grin-and-bear-it persona and often denigrated the Texas singer’s iffy chops, Cantiello said the mop-toppers’ undoing was deviating from his proven formula: singing songs with limited range that he could mostly nail. “That Goo Goo Dolls tune [“Better Days”] was way too big, too obscure and not romantic enough for him to make memorable,” said Cantiello, who actually thought it was Casey James’ time to go on Wednesday night. “Previously, his failures were AWESOME ones. Remember when he turned the Rolling Stones ‘Under My Thumb’ into a campfire reggae sing-along? Or when he decided to croon ‘Sweet Love’ while limping toward the front of the stage like a horror villain?” Like another finalist with limited skills (to whom he was often compared), Sanjaya, Cantiello said once Urban delivered a performance that lacked in water-cooler buzz, America dropped him like a cold bowl of soup. That said, Cantiello wouldn’t be surprised if Urban could still carve out a decent music career. “The guy’s got the looks and the personality and enough of a voice to cut a marketable album,” he said. “Or maybe I was just brainwashed by his gaze.” Another “Idol” expert, MJ Santilli of , also didn’t predict Urban’s ouster this week — she went with Aaron Kelly — but said it was clearly Tim’s time to go. “Tim did well as long as he chose songs within his very limited vocal range,” she said. “He made an ambitious song choice this week and it did him in. His pitchy, uneven vocals overruled his sincerity. Having said that, Tim didn’t really have much left in his tank anyway. He had a good, solid run for a contestant with so few vocal gifts.” MJ sees modeling and acting in Urban’s future, or possibly a shot at another reality gig. “If Jason Gaston moves out of the ‘If I Can Dream’ house, Tim could take his place as the resident hottie.” Do you think Tim Urban should have been sent home this week, or did America get it wrong? ‘American Idol’ Fave Crystal Bowersox Was ‘Never Angry’ With Ryan Seacrest

Bowersox says she didn’t threaten to quit the show. By Gil Kaufman Crystal Bowersox Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Despite the drama surrounding her alleged attempt to quit the show, Crystal Bowersox said she is not mad at “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest for talking to the press about her moment of doubt. Bowersox told People magazine that despite reports to the contrary, she doesn’t hold a grudge against the sometimes excitable host for spilling the beans about a conversation they had in the “Idol” parking lot a few weeks ago. “We were never angry with each other. We had a conversation. He gave me good advice, and I highly respect him,” said Bowersox, who confirmed that there is “no beef” between her and Seacrest. She also threw water on speculation that the conversation was a result of her contemplating leaving the show, on which she is the undisputed front-runner. “No,” was her simple answer to a question about whether he talked her down from quitting. Bowersox also explained why she had such an emotional reaction on Tuesday night when she sang “People Get Ready,” a performance that was instantly tagged as one of the best of the season , if not the history of the show. “I looked up and saw the mirror of the sunglasses my dad brought because he was trying to hide it if he cried,” Bowersox explained of the sight that brought her to tears before she finished her song. “And was like, ‘I know he’s crying.’ ” After breaking down onstage during her performance, Sox explained to Seacrest that seeing her dad in the audience for the first time had made her very emotional. Rihanna Calls ‘American Idol’ Performance ‘Nerve-Racking’

She also opens up about ‘time-demanding’ Last Girl on Earth Tour and the success of ‘Rude Boy.’ By James Dinh Rihanna Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Wednesday night might have marked Rihanna’s “American Idol” debut , but the superstar delivered a fearless performance of her new single, “Rockstar 101.” “It’s my first time performing on ‘Idol,’ and it’s a little nerve-racking, because we’re in the middle of our tour rehearsals and it’s a really time-demanding experience, and we just had to fit this in there.” she said in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight.” The songstress, who just announced her Last Girl on Earth Tour with Ke$ha this week, confessed that her performance was completely spontaneous, revealing that she and her band “came up with what we were going to do right here, right now.” Rihanna also explained the meaning behind the title of her Last Girl on Earth Tour. “I like to think about myself as the last girl on Earth, because sometimes people make decisions based on the outlook of others and, you know, to me, my life is my life,” she said. “It’s my world, and I’m going to live it the way I want to. That’s how I think about everything. That way I’m focused on me and my work. It’s a really narrow space, a focus.” Rihanna’s third Rated R single, “Rude Boy,” is holding strong atop the Billboard Hot 100 for the fourth consecutive week. “It’s so exciting. I can’t believe ‘Rude Boy,’ of all songs, was the biggest song on this album, and that’s the one that I really wrote the most on.” she said of the song’s success. Lil Wayne, T.I. Family Members Discuss Life With Jailed Rappers

‘No one wants to see anyone in jail, especially their kids’ father and husband,’ Lil Wayne’s ex Antonia Carter says. By Jayson Rodriguez Antonia Carter and Tameka Cottle Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Lil Wayne began his one-year prison stint this month just as T.I. is preparing to complete his sentence . While fans of both have expressed how much they miss the superstar rappers , the circumstances have been especially trying for each artist’s family members. The mothers of their children, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle and Antonia “Toya” Carter, spoke to Honey magazine recently and revealed what it’s been like for them as T.I. transitions from a halfway house to freedom and Wayne serves out his term. “No one wants to see anyone in jail, especially their kids’ father and husband,” Lil Wayne’s ex-wife Toya said. “Wayne and I have a great relationship. That’s just not anywhere that I want to see him. He’s never not been accessible. As long as we’ve been talking or dating I’ve never not be able to pick up the phone and call him no matter what is going on in my life. Now he’s locked up and it’s not like that anymore.” Late last year, T.I. was transfered from a federal prison to a halfway house in Atlanta. He’s permitted to leave the premises to work, which includes recording in the studio ; he’s already released his comeback effort “I’m Back.” On Friday (March 26), T.I. is scheduled to be sent home.
