Here’s a lil Friday morning inspiration: A congenital birth defect left 25-year-old Kyle Maynard a quadruple amputee, but that won’t stop him from braving one of the toughest physical tests a person can face — the nearly 20,000 foot climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. Though Maynard’s arms end at his elbows and his legs stop at his knees, he will use no assistive device to climb the highest peak in Africa. He’ll make the climb using only pieces of bicycle tire taped to the ends of his limbs with heavy duty tape. “This is something I’ve wanted to do for years, just because of the level of the challenge. The harder something is, the better the experience tends to be on the other end once you get through it,” Maynard told ABCnews.com. Maynard has traveled the world as a motivational speaker, competed as a mixed martial artist and a wrestler and owns his own cross fit gym in Suwanee, Ga., but he says that Kilimanjaro will be the hardest feat he’s ever tried. A main mission behind the climb will be to “send a message” to veterans who have been disabled and to disabled children around the world “to show that there are challenges in life, but it doesn’t mean that you have to give up. You decide how you’re going to draw meaning from the challenges in your life.” The climbing team for “Mission Kilimanjaro 2012″ will consist of both “able-bodied” and “disabled” civilians and veterans who will set out on an approximately 16-day ascent in January. Before the climb they will be visiting the Mwereni Integrated School for the Blind in Moshi, Tanzania, where they will deliver $25,000 worth of donated medical supplies to the school. Among the climbing team will be several veterans who live with physical disabilities, traumatic brain injury or post traumatic stress disorder. Maynard explains that wounded veterans have made a “huge impact” on his life. He writes on the mission’s website: “I am climbing for the people who may realize how much potential they have in their lives. I am climbing to pay tribute to my heroes — the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have sacrificed so much to preserve my freedom.” Amazing. We wish him the best of luck. Source
Trey Songz wasn’t only the face of Rocawear’s Spring/Summer 2011 line, but he’s also been handpicked to pose for the brand’s Evolution fragrance for men. And in a teaser for the scent, Trey does what he does best. After watching a woman undress for him, the two tumble and tussle around in bed. See it below! He told Uptown : “Outside of Evolution, I’ve been the face [of Rocawear] for a while now. It all spawned from going on tour with Jay-Z – the Blueprint 3 tour last January. And you know we had a conversation about the clothing company. The fragrance was always in the industry talks. And it’s finally come to life now, after sending samples back and talking about it. It’s truly something that I represent so that makes it much more organic and a seamless transition for me than just taking pictures and then walking away from a shoot and spraying something else on [laughs].” WATCH! L.A. Reid – the man behind Rihanna, Usher and Mariah Carey’s careers – recently admitted he could’ve taken credit for Lady Gaga’s success too, but was having a bad day when he decided to drop her – only months after originally signing her to Island Def Jam. Of course, Gaga went on to sign with Interscope and L.A. moved to Epic Records, but here’s what he had to say about what could have been: “One day, this artist came to my office. She played piano, she had on white go-go boots, thigh-high boots. She sat down at the piano and she played and she sang and when she was done, I said, ‘You are an amazing artist, a true artist and you will change music’ and I signed her. Her name was Lady Gaga. “Then a few months later, I got her demos and it was a work in progress and I was having a bad day. A bad day. And I said, ‘You know what? I really don’t like it. Let her have her freedom. Let her go find her career.’ And it was the worst thing I’ve ever done.” Did L.A. Reid Sign Ciara? OutKast Signing With L.A. Reid’s Epic Records

Country star, however, claims he made the choice to pull his ‘All My Rowdy Friends’ from ESPN’s ‘Monday Night Football.’ By Gil Kaufman Hank Williams Jr. (file) Photo: Rick Diamond/ Getty Images ESPN officially parted ways with controversial country star Hank Williams Jr. on Thursday (October 6), just days after it suspended him for comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler. Williams’ signature song, “All My Rowdy Friends,” was initially pulled from this week’s “Monday Night Football” broadcast for one night, but the firing became permanent Thursday when the network formally severed ties with the notoriously rabblerousing singer. “We have decided to part ways with Hank Williams, Jr.,” ESPN announced in a statement. “We appreciate his contributions over the past years. The success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue.” The controversy began to bubble Monday morning after the outspoken Williams appeared on a Fox News morning show, during which he condemned a June golf outing involving Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner and Obama. “It’s like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu,” he said of the bipartisan golf game. The hosts of the conservative network’s “Fox & Friends” morning program seemed surprised by the comment, with co-anchor Gretchen Carlson asking Williams to clarify what he meant by the inflammatory statement, saying, “You used the name of one of the most hated people in all the world to describe, I think, the president.” Williams responded, “That’s true … but I’m telling you like it is.” A short time later, Williams issued the first of two apologies , writing on his website, “Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood … My analogy was extreme — but it was to make a point.” That appeared to do little to quell the firestorm over his comments, leading to Thursday’s firing. Williams’ “Rowdy” has been part of “Monday Night Football” for more than two decades, and the singer was clearly stung by the sports network’s actions. In a statement denying that he’d been fired, Williams wrote , “After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision,” he said, employing the classic “you can’t fire me because I quit” argument. “By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and ‘All My Rowdy Friends’ are OUT OF HERE. It’s been a great run.” Related Artists Hank Williams Jr.

‘I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully,’ she writes after a hemorrhage in her vocal cord. By Kara Warner Adele Photo: MTV This year’s chart-dominating diva Adele has once again been forced to cancel tour dates due to illness. According to her record label, the “Someone Like You” singer suffered a hemorrhage in her vocal cord and she will now have to cancel her upcoming sold-out 10-city tour. The hemorrhage seems a more serious condition than the laryngitis she suffered when she was forced to cancel other dates earlier this year. Adele expressed sadness in being forced to cancel the tour via an emotional post on her website: “Singing is literally my life, it’s my hobbie, my love, my freedom and now my job. I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever. I have great confidence in believing you know how much this upsets me, how seriously I take it and how truly devastated and annoyed I am by this,” she wrote. “Wanting to do something so bad and not being able to is the most frustrating thing as I’m sure you know! “My voice is weak and I need to build it back up. I’m gonna be starting up vocal rehab [soon] and start building my over all stamina in my voice, body and mind,” she continued. “I will be back and I’m gonna smash the ball out the park once I’m touring again. I apologise from the bottom of my heart, sincerely I do. I know it’s not only disappointing because of the show, but it’s plane tickets, hotel bookings, birthdays, anniversaries and time wasted. But please have faith in me that this is the only thing I can do to make sure I can always sing and always make music for you to the best of my ability. Truly yours and yours only forever, Adele xx” The British songbird has had a killer year, smashing music records left and right She is the first female to land two singles and two albums in the U.K. top five simultaneously — which only the Beatles had achieved back in 1963. Her sophomore album, 21, is the first album in U.K. chart history to sell 3 million copies in one calendar year, and it has spent the most consecutive weeks at #1 ever by a solo female, 11, beating a record previously held by Madonna’s The Immaculate Collection. Adele also logged the most cumulative weeks with a U.K. #1 for a solo female (18), beating out Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain, who shared the previous record at 11 weeks.
