The Amazing Race Season 25 Episode 1 Recap: Go Big or Go Home!

Friday evening’s premiere of The Amazing Race Season 25 Episode 1 showed us that the long-running reality competition still hasn’t lost much of a step. Kicking things off in Times Square, the Race is off and literally running! Watch The Amazing Race Season 25 Episode 1 Online Sure, Friday night TV is sort of a graveyard for reality shows, but still. Sure, it could have benefited from an extra half hour like CBS gave Survivor Season 29 Episode 1 for us to better get to know the cast, but still. Sure, Bethany Hamilton didn’t get enough screen time, but still. Okay, all complaining aside? It was a solid premiere for a still-solid show, and we briefly break down the contestants in order of how they finished below: 1. Misti & Jim, the dentists, don’t lack for confidence, but were also willing to help out others and proved to be the most competent. First place? Well earned. 2. Tim & Te Jay capitalized on Jim to complete Roadblock and complained a little too much for our liking, but second place is still a solid result. 3. Kym & Alli, urban bikers who talk almost as big a game as the wrestlers they edged out, act like they’re embracing the role of the “target” early on. 4. Robbie & Brooke, wrestlers who might think they’re more famous than they actually are, sure talk the part. Can they back it up with their performances? 5. Bethany & Adam make you want to ride Team Soul Surfer all the way to the end. They need to work out some kinks, but could be real contenders. 6. Maya & Amy, a couple of enthusiastic scientists who specialize in candy and ice cream, did little of note, but that’s a unique hook for a team at least! 7. Dennis & Isabelle weren’t particularly impressive, or noteworthy in any sense that you wanted to root for or against them. Tune in next week. 8. Shelley & Nici, a pair of flight attendants, struggled a bit but made up for it with determination. And provided some comic relief with their frustrations. 9. Whitney & Keith, the Survivor contestants of years past, were not impressive at the onset. They won’t outwit, outplay or outlast many at this rate. 10. Michael & Scott, a pair of Boston firefighters, likely only survived this week because one team was even worse. But that’s all it takes to move on … Farewell, Lisa and Michelle. You’ll be missed for your good looks, but you proved that some of us should just stay home and watch The Amazing Race online . The realtors from Miami vowed to use their good looks to get ahead in The Race, and while that likely works in their day jobs, it didn’t do much here. Not knowing where the sun rises and sets? Never a good sign. Also, karma bit them hard when they left – then dissed – the firemen at the dock. That’s just asking for it.

Andy Cohen Joins Tinder, Seeks Love Connection

Andy Cohen officially has joined the dating application Tinder in search of true love. Or at least whatever you’d call the stuff people say and send on Tinder. The application is a no-holds-barred service matching people pretty much choose each other solely on looks, location and perhaps a witty “about me” blurb. Based on a user’s preference, Tinder produces a bunch of “results” or people – each profile can hold up to six pictures and an “about me” – for review. Users swipe left (not interested) or right (interested); if both parties happen to have swiped right, it’s a match! If there’s a match, the two parties can chat. Kind of awesome concept for a dating app … or at least hooking up with tech-savvy hotties who happen to be nearby. It was a hit at the Olympic village . In Cohen’s case, during an interview with Larry King, the 46-year-old Bravo producer demonstrated how the app worked and even “matched” with someone. “He has a nice body,” King said. We’re sure he does … but check out some of the best Tinder messages of all time to see what nonsense Andy could be in for if he pursues him: 21 Best Tinder Messages Ever 1. Lana Del Rey Ends Engagement to Barrie-James O’Neill

Well, if you were wondering why every love song on Lana Del Rey’s new album sounds more like a funeral dirge, we may have an explanation for you: Lana got engaged to Barrie-James O’Neill earlier this year, but the gloomy chanteuse revealed in a recent interview that she and O’Neill are “currently not together.” Asked to elaborate, Lana stated, “He is a wonderful person. But there are some things with which he has to deal. I will not explain it in detail. I no longer felt free. We’ll see how it goes.” We suppose the news isn’t entirely shocking, as Del Rey’s latest album, Ultraviolence , is filled with musings about breakups and bad relationships.  Still, Lana (real name, Elizabeth Grant), seems to have adopted a carefully constructed public persona, and has even been accused of playing a character to make herself more marketable. As such, many interpreted the doom and gloom sound of her latest release as a bit of artistic license on the part of the “Young and Beautiful” (and wildly successful) songstress. While an entertainer’s personal life shouldn’t affect our opinion of their work, in light of the revelation that Lana’s engagement came to a sudden end (she hasn’t specified when the split took place), songs like ” Shades of Cool ” seem more authentically heartfelt. Lana found herself at the center of a controversy last week when she commented that she wishes she was dead during an interview with a UK newspaper. Here’s hoping Ms. Del Rey recovers from her current funk…but not so much that she can’t keep churning out bleak heartbreak ballads.  Celebrity Break-Ups of 2014 1. Naya Rivera and Big Sean Naya Rivera and Big Sean called it quits while rumors that he cheated took the celebrity gossip blogosphere by storm.

Dads Respond to Frozen, Never-Ending Loop of Movie Soundtrack

The Frozen epidemic reached epic proportions over the weekend: Pearl Jam actually covered Let It Go during a concert in Milan. As a result of this never-ending influx of the Disney smash – from its incessant playing at home to its soundtrack taking over your car stereo every time you leave home – Ryan O’Quinn and Todd Wilkerson have recorded a video that perfectly sums up the frustrations of fathers everywhere. The footage depicts the irritation, begrudging acceptance and, finally, the affection parents have for the film, concluding in the song’s final verse: “And I know somewhere Walt Disney/Is smiling in his grave. ‘Cause while I’m filling up his pockets, while I’m driving up his profits/He’s driving me insane!” Dads React to Frozen Soundtrack Amen, right, Dads of America? Frozen, it should be noted, has made over $1.2 billion across the planet. It ranks as the fifth-highest grossing movie everywhere and parents are starting to name their children Elsa . 8 Artists Who Just Can’t “Let It Go” 1. Arnold Schwarzenegger Covers “Let It Go” Arnold Schwarzenegger sort of covers “Let It Go” in this Jimmy Fallon bit. But he definitely ruins it forever.

People Aint Isht: Couple Ties Their 4-Year-Old Daughter To Baby Gate, Kicks Girl So Hard Her Teeth Come Loose

People can be so cruel. Somebody needs to tie them to a table and pour hot lava on them. Couple Ties Child To Baby Gate According to Examiner Police in North Carolina are accusing two parents of intentionally inflicting pain and abusing their 4-year-old daughter. In a heartrending story of ill-treatment and neglect of a helpless child, authorities in Raleigh, N.C. have arrested 26-year-old Gerald Thomas Swinehart, and 28-year-old Marianne Victoria Coffey, and have accused the couple of using plastic zip ties to bind their 4-year-old daughter’s wrists and ankles to a baby gate, according to Raleigh authorities. The zip ties these so-called parents thought appropriate for a child are the plastic ties used by electricians to bundle wires. Police use them as well at times in lieu of handcuffs. Investigators also said Swinehart pushed or kicked the child so hard that her lower teeth broke through her lower lip. Arrest warrants obtained by The Associated Press indicate these incidents occurred in February and March, but the documents did not say if the parents had made this an ongoing practice of abuse or if it happened one time. In either case, cruelty to this degree of a child is a nauseating thought, and reflects the ills of some slapdash parents. Swinehart is charged with two counts of intentional child abuse and inflicting serious physical injury. Coffey is charged with one count. The father is being held under $100,000 bond. The child’s mother faces one count and is being held under $50,000 bond. Their child, whose name was not released, was taken into the custody of social services on March 31. Wow. They punched the kid so hard her teeth came loose? Sick people often take out their frustrations on their children because they did not want children in the first place. They need help.

Texas Secession Petition Garners 81,000 Signatures, Qualifies For White House Response

Everything’s bigger in Texas. That apparently includes secession petitions . A petition to allow Texas to secede from the United States has qualified to receive a White House response, garnering more than 81,000 signatures. The Texas secession movement’s leader said President Obama’s reelection was a “catalyzing moment” for his group’s efforts “to quit the United States.” Daniel Miller, president of the Texas Nationalist Movement, said: “I am completely aware that Election Day was a catalyzing moment, but I do not believe that the underpinnings of this are solely about Barack Obama.” “This cake has been baking for a long time – it’s the Obama administration that put the candles on the cake and lit it for us.” The Texas secession petition reads : Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union. To do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government . The support for the petition has surged despite Texas Gov. Rick Perry – who has flirted with the secession idea in the past – callng to support the union. The governor’s press secretary, Catherine Frazier, said that Perry “believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it.” Perry does, however, “share the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government.” The Lone Star State is not exactly alone. Residents in more than 40 states have filed secession petitions to the Obama administration’s “We the People” site. Though none of the breakaway efforts have come even close to Texas’ huge number, many petitions have attracted 20,000-30,000 signatures.

Rihanna Experiences Love, Loss In ‘We Found Love’ Video

Despite song’s sunny vibe, clip is a dark look at love and substance abuse. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna on the set of her “We Found Love” video Photo: PUSHfotografik.com/Splash News Remember how that Irish farmer got mad at Rihanna for what he deemed her “inappropriate state of undress” on the set of the “We Found Love” video ? Well, on Wednesday (October 19), fans got to see what all the fuss was about when the singer officially released the clip. Directed by Melina Matsoukas (“Hard,” “S&M,” “Rude Boy” and “Rockstar 101”), the video features British model/boxer Dudley O’Shaughnessy as Rihanna’s green-eyed love interest. The smoldering couple make their way through Belfast, Ireland, experiencing the ups and downs of love. Despite the song’s feel-good, sunny vibe, the video is a dark look at love and substance abuse. The mini-movie opens with a voice that sounds somewhat like Rihanna doing a cockney accent saying, “I saw you screaming and no one can hear. You almost feel ashamed that someone could be that important that without them, you feel like nothing. No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless, like nothing can save you. Then when it’s over, and it’s gone, you almost wish you could have all that bad stuff back, so that you could have the good.” The speech certainly foreshadows the events of the video. Perhaps inspired by films like “Trainspotting” and “Requiem for a Dream,” Rihanna and Dudley play gutter punks who are not only addicted to each other, but also drugs and partying. The video is a montage of their love affair: a dizzying mix of sweet, tender moments, sexier, naked moments and moments where both Ri and Dudley are too messed up to care much about anything but the feeling of being high, often leading to fighting. They skate, they kiss, he watches as Rihanna frolics topless in a field, they party. All the good is bookended by fights (one notably in a car) and drug-fueled benders. And, in the end, all of it becomes too much for the couple and the frustrations and pressures of their love affair begin to become more about the rush than the actual love. In the end, they can’t handle each other, and Rihanna walks out, leaving Dudley passed out on the ground barely able to do anything to win her back. Buzzworthy Finds References Aplenty In ‘We Found Love’ > > > The track, produced by Calvin Harris , is the lead single from her highly anticipated November 21 release, Talk That Talk, the follow-up to 2010’s Loud. The video is vaguely reminiscent of Rihanna’s own recollections about her past abusive relationships. In a 2009 interview with MTV News , Rihanna opened up about her choice to always be honest with her fans. “One of the big things for me, I always want to help young women and give them insight into life experiences,” she explained. “One of those things is going through an abusive relationship like I did. But that’s one thing for me. So I don’t want to be the big domestic-violence spokesperson, because that doesn’t define who I am. But if I can help young women in any way, and that being one of the things they need help with, then I’ll do that.” What do you think of Rihanna’s new video? Share your reviews in the comments! Kings Of Leon’s Caleb Followill ‘Just Trying To Get Better’

On Monday band canceled remaining U.S. tour dates, citing frontman’s ‘vocal issues and exhaustion.’ By James Montgomery The Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill Photo: Skip Bolen/ WireImage On the same day his band announced they were canceling the remainder of their U.S. tour due to his “vocal issues and exhaustion,” Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill was in New York, where he told a TMZ cameraman he was focused on healing. “I’m just trying to get better,” Followill said while walking with his wife, model Lily Aldridge . On Monday, the Kings of Leon scrapped their tour in the wake of a disastrous Dallas show during which Followill repeatedly complained about the heat and then abruptly left the stage after announcing to the crowd at the Gexa Energy Pavilion, “I’m gonna go backstage and I’m gonna vomit. I’m gonna drink a beer and I’m gonna come back out and play three more songs.” He never reappeared, leaving his bandmates to apologize to the audience. Following the show, KOL bassist Jared Followill took to Twitter to express his frustrations, writing, “There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed. I can’t lie, there are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.” Initially, the band only postponed a Saturday-night show in Houston, but citing Followill’s health, they made the decision to cancel their remaining U.S. shows, saying in a statement, “The band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break.” The Kings are scheduled to return to the road at the end of September, with a run of shows in Canada, but when asked about future touring plans by TMZ, Followill would only say, “I don’t know. … We’ll see how it goes.” The TMZ cameraman then asked Followill how he plans to heal his voice, to which he jokingly replied, “[I] try not to do interviews.” Related Artists Kings Of Leon
