Worldchanging 2003-2010

Six years ago, the green blogosphere was pretty much TreeHugger for the lite, Grist for the funny, but if you were serious, there was Worldchanging. And it was Worldchanging. Co-founder Jamais Cascio wrote on November 19, 2003: We’re under no illusions. The world is stumbling its way to hell, environmentally, politically, economically — but whining about it isn’t going to change it. What can give us hope is a combination of good ideas, novel tools, innovative technologies, unexpected collaboration, and a healthy … Read the full story on TreeHugger

VIDEO: Kurt Russell, Sarah Silverman and Dozens More Sing ‘We Are the World’ for Funny or Die

Considering we’re only about four weeks away from Christmas — insert prerequisite “where did the year go?!” quip here — it’s about that time for celebrities to remember the less fortunate among us. With that in mind, here’s Comedy Death-Ray and Funny or Die presenting “We Are the World 25.75,” an almost anniversary celebration of the Quincy Jones supersong in support of the LA Regional Foodbank. Before you get too excited though, heed the words of Kurt Russell: “I want to stress that these are not good singers. This does not sound good at all.”

Ke$ha Tells ‘The Story Of The $’ In Funny Or Die Parody Video

Skit traces singer’s dollar-sign name back to a pizza-store sign. By James Dinh Ke$ha in her Funny or Die parody video Photo: Funny Or Die Ke$ha is perhaps as well-known for her unusually spelled name as her hard party-girl lyrics, sexy-grunge attire. And thankfully, she seems to have quite a sense of humor about the former. The pop star teamed up with comedy video website Funny or Die to tell “The Story of the $.” In somber, TV documentary tones and dressed in all black, Ke$ha tells the traumatic story of a childhood birthday party at a fast food pizza chain. “I used to be Kesha with an S, instead of a dollar sign, and then one year I had my birthday at Shakey’s Pizza,” she says, almost shedding tears. “On the sign, the big sign where they write ‘Happy birthday,’ they replaced the S with a dollar sign.” After a dramatic reenactment of the sign, the video then turns to Joe Trundle, an employee at the pizza joint, who recalls the day they didn’t have any more S letters to hang up. “Yeah, I remember that day,” he confesses. “We had a special going on sausage, salami and sundried tomatoes pizza so we were just all out of S’s.” Fans get a glimpse inside of Ke$ha’s real career aspirations as she reveals, “It ruined my life. I wanted to be a CPA, but you know who H&R Block doesn’t hire? People with dollar signs in their name. I pretty much had to be a pop star.” The singer’s painful story is all but relieved when the interviewer brings her back to the same Shakey’s Pizza location, in hopes of restoring her proper spelling. But she’s met with another unpleasant surprise when the sign shows “KESH4.” “We have an artichoke and anchovy pizza today, so we ran out of A’s,” the employee tells a heartbroken Ke$ha. After lashing out at Trundle, “Tik Tok,” begins to play as the shattered the singer forever known for her dollar sign name gets back into her black limo. Hayden Panettiere’s Cute Little Cleavage

It’s Oktoberfest in Germany and I’m stuck at home writing all kinds of crap about it instead actually getting to enjoy some giant beers, roasted pork and drunk German chicks in pigtails with scary accents. Here’s Hayden Panettiere and her friendly giant having a good time getting drunk in their silly outfits. I appreciate that Hayden tried her best to show off what little cleavage she had, but I’ve seen some sexy Lederhosen on chicks on the internet before and this homely outfit just isn’t doing it for me. Maybe next year.

Sara Bareilles Tops Billboard 200 Albums Chart

Eminem’s Recovery moves back up from #3 to #2. By Gil Kaufman Sara Bareilles’ Kaleidoscope Heart Photo: Epic Three months into its epic chart run, Eminem ‘s Recovery continues to provide stiff competition to chart newcomers. In one of the most modest #1 debut showings of the year, “Love Song” singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles will top the Billboard 200 next week with Kaleidoscope Heart, which moved 90,000 copies to snatch the pole position, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. That easily bested the #45 debut of her first album, 2007’s Little Voice, and it was just enough to keep Slim Shady at bay. The resurgent rapper moved up a notch to #2 as Recovery sold another 81,000 copies to push it over the 2.5 million mark. If sales continue at this pace, Em could soon surpass the year’s top-selling album to date, Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now, which has racked up 2.6 million in sales over the past eight months. Also debuting in the top 10 next week are the latest from Slipknot side group Stone Sour with Audio Secrecy (#6, 46,000); indie band Interpol , whose self-titled fourth album moved 38,000 copies (#7); and Florida rockers Anberlin , who hit #9 with Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place (31,000). The rest of the top 10: Now 35 (#3, 63,000); Katy Perry , Teenage Dream (#4, 59,000); Disturbed , Asylum (#5, 57,000, down 68 percent from last week’s #1 debut); Justin Bieber , My World 2.0 (#8, 35,000); and the Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam soundtrack (#10, 31,000). Fantasia ‘s comeback, Back to Me, continued its slide down the charts. It shed six more spots in week three to land at #11 on sales of 29,000, during a slow week when most of the top 20 saw double-digit sales drop-offs. Further down the line, rock icon Jerry Lee Lewis hits #30 with Mean Old Man (11,000), Minneapolis rap crew Atmosphere land at #38 with the EP compilation To All My Friends, Blood Makes the Blade Holy (9,000), and Swedish dance machine Robyn comes in at #41 with Body Talk Pt. 2 (8,000). It was virtually the same story on the iTunes albums chart, as Bareilles took the top spot, followed by Eminem, Disturbed, Perry, Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More, Atmosphere, Interpol, Stone Sour, Anberlin and “Camp Rock.” The iTunes singles chart was also mostly unchanged, with Bruno Mars taking the top spot with “Just the Way You Are,” followed by Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Nelly’s “Just a Dream,” Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” Em’s “Lose Yourself,” Enrique Iglesias’ “I Like It” and Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love.” iTunes doesn’t provide sales figures, but you can be sure Flo Rida was glad to see that his new single, “Club Can’t Handle Me,” came in at #8, followed by Ke$ha’s “Take It Off” and B.o.B’s “Magic.” Bareilles will probably have a short time in the sun, as next week brings the chart debut of Linkin Park ‘s A Thousand Suns , Trey Songz ‘s Passion, Pain & Pleasure, Killers singer Brandon Flowers ‘ debut solo album, Flamingo, and Weezer ‘s indie debut, Hurley , as well as new albums from Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant and insurgent country star Jamey Johnson . Katy Perry Says VMA Host Chelsea Handler Was ‘Hella Funny’

‘She said some stuff that I was like, ‘Oh my god, girl!’ ‘ singer says. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Audrey Kim Chelsea Handler onstage at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Chelsea Handler had a number of memorable moments as VMA host on Sunday, and Katy Perry , who is engaged to two-time VMA host Russell Brand , is giving the funny lady her seal of approval. There’s no VMA-host beef here. “No, [Russell] didn’t ask me how they compared, but he asked me how she did and I think, contrary to whatever rumors or whatever Internet stuff or whatever, I was in stitches,” she told MTV News. “I thought she was so hella funny.” True to form, not only was Handler funny, she was also a bit controversial, taking lighthearted jabs at everyone from Taylor Swift to Lindsay Lohan. And that resonated with Perry. “She said some stuff that I was like, ‘Oh my god, girl! You’re not gonna get away with this. You’d better watch your back when you get offstage!’ ” she recalled. “She definitely crossed lines, but I love a woman that can cross lines. “I thought some of her skits were hilarious. And even the video stuff that she did, they were really well-thought-out. I don’t know who helps her with some of it … whoever did it … and I know a lot of it’s her ’cause she’s funny just off the cuff,” she continued. She did a great job, fantastic! I would love to see her again.” One of Handler’s real-life pals, Natasha Bedingfield , praised her friend last week before the show. “I love her so much. She’s going to be amazing,” she told MTV News. “She’ll probably be the best one you guys have ever had, I think. She’s just amazing. I love her, and she’s always very honest, and I appreciate that, because there’s always a lot of people who kiss your ass all the time in this business. And it’s just nice to be with someone you just feel comfortable with and you know they’re not going to blow smoke.” Related Videos VMA 2010: Chelsea Handler’s Best Bits Related Photos Top 10 Moments Of The 2010 VMAs Related Artists Katy Perry

Lady Gaga, Chelsea Handler Have VMA Fan In Natasha Bedingfield

Bedingfield sings the praises of friend Handler and former tourmate Gaga. By Jocelyn Vena Natasha Bedingfield Photo: MTV News When the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards kick off on Sunday, “Unwritten,” singer Natasha Bedingfield will be rooting for two of her pals, nominee Lady Gaga and VMA host Chelsea Handler . Bedingfield isn’t placing any bets on how many Moonmen the 13-time nominated Gaga will take home, but she says her former tourmate deserves her latest accolades. “I was on tour with Lady Gaga two years ago, and I got to know her a bit, and she’s just fantastic. So, I hope that she wins for one of them, at least, ’cause that’s cool,” Bedingfield told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday. “She was opening for me and New Kids on the Block on the road. It was awesome! We were just two girls going around going to different states in America.” While Gaga will certainly have everyone talking by the water cooler on Monday, Bedingfield thinks that Handler will have everyone hoping for a return performance at next year’s show. “[Chelsea] will have to have a lot of outfits too! I love her so much. She’s going to be amazing. She’ll probably be the best one you guys have ever had I think,” Bedingfield said. “She’s just amazing. I love her, and she’s always very honest, and I appreciate that, because there’s always a lot of people who kiss your ass all the time in this business. And it’s just nice to be with someone you just feel comfortable with and you know they’re not going to blow smoke.” So, what is it like to be friends with the sassy comedian? “She’s funny. She lets other people be funny. I think that’s how you can tell someone is, like, comfortable with themselves,” she said. “They don’t mind people being funny and them being quiet, and sometimes she’ll be the funny one.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday.
