First Dredd Trailer: RoboCop Meets The Raid?

“Somewhere in this block are two judges,” a crime lord declares over loudspeakers in a concrete, locked-down tenement. “I want them dead.” Is this the American remake of Gareth Evans ‘ fantastic silat action pic The Raid ? Nope. It’s the first trailer for Dredd ! As in, the second cinematic coming of Judge Dredd, the futuristic crime fighting officer made famous by Sylvester Stallone , here replaced by a serious-faced, robotic Karl Urban, whose lower jaw we’re going to be seeing a lot of in the September reboot. Pete Travis ( Vantage Point ) directs (after some editing room drama ) the slick-looking Dredd — shot in 3-D — which promises a dirty future ridden with crime, the population under the control of Lena Headey’s drug-pushing villainess. The fictional narcotic “Slo-mo” makes characters feel as if time is moving at a slow crawl, giving Travis the occasion to give things that gorgeous speed-manipulated floating feeling, which should help distract from the glaring familiarity of the film’s set-up. Which brings me to the aforementioned issue; if I hadn’t seen (and loved) The Raid , which exploited the basic premise of a few lone law officers fighting their way through a slum building to get to its big boss with great aplomb, the trailer’s plot reveal would feel a lot fresher. Now I’m just wondering if any of the fights will come close to matching the inventiveness of Evans’ bone-crunching Indonesian picture. And with Urban set to never take off that Dredd mask in the film — and delivering lines like “I’m the law” with no trace of Sly’s charisma — this feels like a precursor to the RoboCop reboot , only with less emotion. And then there’s the Dredd -ness of it all. Olivia Thirlby in that Dredd -ful hairdo will have to work hard to measure up to Diane Lane’s feisty sidekick in 1995’s Judge Dredd , silly as that movie was, even as this Dredd — based more on the comics than its predecessor — is clearly taking a more solemn approach. The most promising element here is Headey and her scarred-but-hot lady crime lord — now there’s something you don’t see often. Verdict: More of a curiosity than a must-see. Dredd hits theaters September 21. [via Machinima ]

Space Suit Party! Is This the Most Adorable Prometheus Cast Photo Or What?

Here’s just what you need to keep that Prometheus mania going: A batch of fantastic Prometheus photos and stills featuring Charlize Theron , Michael Fassbender , Noomi Rapace , Logan Marshall-Green , and others from the cast in their spiffy (and skin-tight) Prometheus space suits. It’s a space suit party! Oh, the laughs Charlize and Fassy and Noomi share when they’re not on set staring ominously into the distant at unknown horrors, or resting those space helmets on those sassy hips. The adorbs moment below comes from an exclusive photo shoot for EW’s May 11 issue, which includes great looks from the set along with in-character portraits of the cast. Thankfully (?) these photos don’t seem to give away any spoilers, so you can click through to your heart’s delight and take notes for crafting your own homemade Prometheus Halloween costumes. But seriously, Hollywood: What is the deal with all these micro-textured hero costumes? Oh, nevermind. These space suits are pretty sick. Love the futuristic-retro take on classic space-age design. Can’t wait to see if space-chic catches on this summer. Head to EW for the full batch of photos. Prometheus hits theaters on June 8. [via EW ]

Katy Perry’s Going Back To Her ‘Roots’ On Next Album

‘I just think that it’s time for me to show where I came from,’ Perry says of her Teenage Dream follow-up. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry ‘s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection doesn’t hit stores until March 13, but with the first single, “Part of Me,” currently sitting atop the Billboard Hot 100, it’s almost as if Perry can never truly say goodbye to the album that has come to define her. Though, to be honest, she’s going to try. “It feels like the record that never ends!” she told MTV News recently in Los Angeles. “Obviously I’m going to close this chapter soon. … I am ready to make a new record and maybe try another approach artistically, and I will close the book on Teenage Dream soon, but [ Complete Confection ] just felt really organic. I’m doing it mostly for the hard-core fans, because they always love all the extras. And also, I couldn’t put more than 12 songs on the original Teenage Dream, and I had written more songs … and I finally wanted to incorporate them.” Perry said that, in addition to those two Dream holdovers — “Part of Me” and a track called “Just Enough” — the Confection collection will also feature a brand-new song … one that she just put the finishing touches on in a late-night recording session. “I just wrote [it] with a bunch of my co-writers, in two days,” she laughed. “It was nuts, I recorded it at 3 a.m. and I was slapping myself in the face to stay awake, singing the chorus … so tired! But it’s nice to have all those goodies [on the reissue.]” And while she wouldn’t give away too many details about the proper follow-up to Dream, Perry did say that she can’t wait to focus on writing new material. And she’s got no shortage of subject matter, either. “It’s a very therapeutic thing for me, songwriting. I’m kind of one of those people who is a bit emotion-less on the outside, especially in public, but what I do is I store it, and I file it, so when I need to write I can just push that button,” she explained. “I’m going to stick my finger out there and test the waters of what the world wants, or what I need to say … but, I’m all ears. If people want me to do another pop record, I can do another pop record … I definitely have a lot to say right now, and in general always have. If you want an opinion, I’ve got one, unfortunately.” Of course, whenever she gets around to making the new album, it may be a big-time departure from the futuristic, candy-colored pop confections she spun on Dream. The next time out, she may very well be looking backward, as opposed to forward. “I just think that it’s time for me in some ways to show where I came from,” she said. “I’ve always just been me and my guitar; and I’m not saying I’m going to make that record, but I do want to get back to my roots. I’ve been changing my hair color too much!” What do you hope to hear on Katy Perry’s next album? Leave your comment below! Bad Movies We Love: Logan’s Run

Sexually exciting news: This week’s important new movie Spy Kids: All the Time in the World 4D (that’s not the sexually exciting part) is both “futuristic” and “sci-fi” — which means we have reason to revisit the futuristic, sci-fi lovefest of Logan’s Run . Hooray! It’s one of the most decadent, senselessly gorgeous Bad Movies We Love of all time. Better we re-watch it now than after the remake comes out and destroys our nostalgia. Are you ready for ray guns, cult-like “carrousels” of death, and the hirsute hotness of Peter Ustinov?

Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried

“I have a clause in my contract that says if you put someone as beautiful as Amanda in the movie, I have to fall in love with her,” Timberlake joked at a press conference for the film at San Diego Comic-Con. The costars bonded over a grueling shoot for the futuristic action film, which has Seyfried and Timberlake on the run after his character is accused of murder, and the duo eventually spent time together “shooting” off camera as well. Actors have been known to make unusual requests in their

Katy Perry Says She Swiped ‘E.T.’ From Three 6 Mafia

Perry’s latest single was actually meant for the Academy Award-winning rap group. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sway Calloway Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry has already said that when she was writing songs for her Teenage Dream album, her goal was to “make a different ‘movie’ for each song.” So it’s ironic that her latest single, “E.T.,” was actually meant for a group who knows a thing or two about movies … and they’ve got the Academy Award to prove it. “I’ll tell you, it’s funny … this song, I remember writing with Max Martin and Dr. Luke, and there’s this producer they wrote with, named Ammo as well, and they were just showing me different samples of songs or tracks or beats, and they accidentally pulled up this beat, and it was for Three 6 Mafia,” Perry told MTV News. “I heard it and I always knew I wanted to write this futuristic, alienistic song, and they pulled it up and I was like, ‘Wait, I can wrap my head around this. I know this seems like a long shot, but I think I have the perfect material to put on top of this sound.’ And I did, and it really worked out perfectly.” So if you’re one of those Katy fans who’s a bit mystified by the abrupt change of pace of “E.T.” — and its equally left-of-center video — well, then you can sort of understand why: Deep down, it’s actually a Three 6 Mafia track. “It’s a whole different vibe for me. It’s kind of a bit harder, it does have that urban feel underneath it. I think that’s why Kanye added even another layer on top of it,” Perry explained. “And it has … amazing … sonics — I mean, there’s so much to it, there’s a lot in the song if you really put your headphones on and sink into the song.” And that’s just part of what drew Perry to the track in the first place. After all, on Teenage Dream, she set out to make movies … and though it may confound some of her fans, “E.T.” is perhaps the most wonderfully odd movie she’s ever made. And she knows it. “Even teasing people with different images from ‘E.T.,’ people are so perplexed, ” she laughed. “They’re like, ‘Katy Perry, you’re supposed to be Betty Boop! You’re supposed to be wearing pink!’ It’s exciting to be able to push my audience, to be like, ‘There’s always more, I’ve got all of this hidden up my sleeve that I’ve really longed to show people.'” What did you think of Katy’s new video? Katy Perry’s ‘E.T.’ Video: Watch An Exclusive Preview!

Clip’s on-air debut at 7:53 p.m. ET Thursday will be followed by live ‘MTV First’ interview with Perry on MTV.com. By Kara Warner Katy Perry in her “E.T.” video Photo: Capitol The Thursday night premiere of Katy Perry’s “E.T.” video with Kanye West on MTV and MTV.com is getting closer and closer. Until then, a 60-second teaser of the futuristic, otherworldly clip should tide fans over. The sneak peek shows Perry floating and spinning somewhere in outer space, decked out in an ethereal and dazzling-white ensemble. She looks like an angelic alien princess, complete with brightly colored makeup and cat-eye contact lenses. The footage of Perry singing is cut with what looks like footage from “Animal Planet” or National Geographic, showing big cats hunting game. The remaining 30 seconds show Perry exploring the desolate terrain in an unknown land. She is wearing another highly complex and stylized outfit, a long silky train billowing in the wind. This time, she looks part femme fatale, part warrior goddess, with a little Lara Croft from “Tomb Raider” thrown in. Perry approaches what looks like a broken robot, wiping dust from its eyes. She is then shown reaching down to place her hand over the device’s heart, which lights up at her touch. At this point it’s safe to say that this is Perry’s most complex, stylized and out-there video production yet. The new clip premieres online at noon Thursday on MTV.com, VH1.com and LogoTV.com. Then, “MTV First: Katy Perry’s ‘E.T.’ ” will bow on air at 7:53 p.m. ET before tossing to an MTV.com live stream, featuring MTV News correspondent Sway’s exclusive chat with Perry, an interview with director Floria Sigismondi and reaction from Perry’s fans. Don’t miss the premiere of Katy Perry’s “E.T.” video, featuring Kanye West, at 7:53 p.m. ET Thursday on MTV, followed by our live “MTV First” interview with Katy Perry on MTV.com! Lindsay Lohan’s Hot New Photoshoot of the Day

I heard that Samantha Ronson, the ugliest human in the history of humans, was tweeting about being in bed with Lohan last week and figured that meant they were both prepping their quest back to being the talk of the boring lesbian town. You know bottom feeding lesbian dykes in Hollywood who need each other to matter. So I’m not suprised these hot pics of Lohan in some photoshoot that may or may not be from her new “sober” days she’s faking, or if they are from her “heroin” days she couldn’t keep hidden and had to fake rehab to clean up her image, I just know that it makes me wish I was Sam Ronson’s dick for a night…herpes scabs, lesions and all. I’m a fan of Lohan and everything she does on her quest to dying before 30. It’s pretty much just that simple… You can tell it is her from the cigarettes and redbull product placement, in case you weren’t sure it was her.
