Asher Roth Talks Working With ‘Genius’ Pharrell On Next Album

Plus: Game asks for DJ Skee’s assitance on The Red Room, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Matt Elias Asher Roth Photo: SRC/Universal Celebrity Favorites There’s a method to Asher Roth’s madness. He rapped over beats from the likes of the RZA, Q-Tip and J. Dilla on his mixtape Seared Foie Gras With Quince and Cranberry because you might hear him flow over original tracks by those super producers on his next album. One dude who is definitely working on Roth’s upcoming LP is Pharrell Williams — and Skateboard P might even serve as executive producer on the project. “We linked up in Miami,” Roth said of the Williams sessions. “Very good chemistry as far as creating music. We was down there while it was all snowy in New York. We had a blast. I think we have some really beautiful music for warm weather. “He really is a genius,” Roth gushed. “Working with him, it’s really fast. We wound up doing 12 records in 12 days, which is really good numbers. It’s quick. He gets an idea and he harnesses that idea really quick. It’s cool when someone like me gets to step into the studio with him. I feel it’s probably different vibes. … I feel like it’s different vibes. Even though he works with everyone from Britney to the Clipse, he can do that because he stays in his lane. He stays true to himself. He’s got a very real sound he’s harnessed with the Neptunes stuff; he’s got a real sound he’s harnessed with N.E.R.D. We wrote 12 different records. We didn’t try to write one record 12 times — we have stuff all over the map, from live drums that are going to incorporate itself well into a live show … I’m excited for you guys to hear that stuff.” The Streets Is Talking: News and Notes From the Underground Game’s new mixtape The Red Room is set to drop very soon, but there has been a slight change in the lineup — instead of making the mixtape a Gangsta Grillz and putting it out with DJ Drama, Game said he secured the services of DJ Skee. “I immediately called Skee, but he was in Toronto,” Game said about reaching out to Skee once he and Drama amicably agreed to part ways on the project. “He got back, came in and then the tape took a turn left, man. But it’s all good, man, ’cause me and Skee got history. Skee’s at home right now just going in working on it to get it out to the people ASAP. So there ain’t no love lost to Drama, I talk to him. He asked me if there wasn’t gonna be anymore G-Unit disses on the tape and I was like, ‘Not really,’ but I reserve the right to do whatever I want. So it’s probably best that I use Skee.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .

T.I. Announces Album Title, Preps New Mixtape With DJ Drama

‘I think this is going to be exciting for the streets,’ Drama says. By Shaheem Reid T.I. and DJ Drama Photo: Atlantic T.I. has feen finalizing plans for the release of latest round of music. The Grammy Award-winning MC announced Thursday (April 15) via his Web site that the title of August 24 LP will be King Uncaged. And on Wednesday, Tip released a promo trailer for an upcoming mixtape he has with DJ Drama and DJ MLK, one in the Gangsta Grillz series called F— a Mixtape. While some were confused by the title, rest assured that all parties involved are not turning their backs on the mixtape circuit — after all, the project is a mixtape and both Drama and MLK have several other mixtapes with various other artists on deck in the coming weeks. But Drama declined to elaborate on the meaning behind the title. “Take it how you wanna take it,” Drama, who describes the quality of King Uncaged as being so dope it’s “ridiculous,” said about any controversy the name has caused. “I’mma let Tip explain.” However, Drama did say that he was one of the people championing Tip’s return to the circuit. “We been talking about it for a minute — a long time,” Dram said. “It’s been quite a while since Tip has a done a Gangsta Grillz. I guess The Leak was the last one. When Tip first got home, I had the conversation with him. ‘You home, Gangsta Grillz as a brand is still as hot as it ever was, almost helping breathe back life into the mixtape game. I think it will be right to come back full circle to where you are, to where the brand is.’ That’s how the conversation started.” The tape is around 80 percent done and going through some tweaks. It’s almost all original material thus far. “I’m about to go in and see if I can get Tip to murder a couple of people’s beats real quick,” he continued. “I’m gonna get on his head about that, but for the most part, all original material.” Tip and his P$C family earned status as underground heroes with their In Da Streets series. “Right up there with it,” Drama said of how the new project compares to the classics. “Right up there with it. I think this is going to be exciting for the streets. It’s a lot of sh– that is ’24s’-type Tip. Tip is like a f—ing superstar right now. He makes a lot of big records with a lot of worldly feels — but they gonna love this in Zone One.” Are you looking forward to T.I.’s new album? Let us know in the comments below! Fabolous Talks New Mixtape, ‘Evolving’ On Next Album

‘I’m looking to come with another summer release,’ MC says of Loso’s Way 2. By Shaheem Reid Fabolous Photo: MTV News Fans can stop hitting Fabolous up on Twitter. It took a few more months than expected, but Fabo’s Gangsta Grillz mixtape The Funeral Service: There Is No Competition 2 was uploaded to the Internet Thursday. The tape contains guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Red Cafe, Paul Cain and others, with a slew of jacked beats and some original material. So now that the unofficial tape is out, when is Loso’s Way 2 coming? “The new album — I’m looking to come with another summer release,” he said. “Probably late July or early August. I’m gathering joints together — so any producer trying to make that Loso’s Way 2, you can send them in. I got a couple of things in the stash. I always keep beats on the side even if they don’t work at the time. I know a hot beat when I hear it. The ‘Throw It In the Bag’ [remix] I had for seven, eight months before I used it. I knew it was a hot joint. When I did the remix I started digging in the crates and pulled it up. I haven’t went it to start [laying] vocals [on the album] yet, but we in the motion of it.” After one of his most successful years in 2009, Fab wants to grow in 2010. “Just the next level in the career, the evolution of Fabulous,” he said of the direction of the next Loso’s Way. “Me, a kid coming from the housing projects in Brooklyn and having the ability to make music, from the mixtape level to graduating to the album level, now just being able to make good music. Keep stable who I am as an artist, as a person. Of course, the next level of my life. On the first Loso’s Way, I touched on having a son and stuff like that. That was the next step for me in general, in life — evolving as a man. Now there are things I’m evolving in as an artist as well.” Related Artists Fabolous

Eminem And Jay-Z Should Rock Cowboys Stadium, Jerry Jones Says

Plus: DJ Drama talks about recent collabos with Fabolous and Chris Brown, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Eminem and Jerry Jones at Cowboy Stadium Photo: James D. Smith/ AP Images Celebrity Favorites While most members of the Mixtape Daily family are big fans of the Dallas Cowboys’ rivals (Shaheem rolls with the G-Men for life, J-Rod loves the Eagles, and Rahman bleeds Jets green), we have to give it up to owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys Stadium. The massive, breathtaking, suspended hi-def screen alone sets it apart from the pack. We won’t get too sentimental about spending NBA All-Star Weekend there, but we did get a chance to catch up with Jerry at Jay-Z and LeBron James’ “Two Kings Dinner & Afterparty.” The owner of America’s Team recalled giving Eminem a tour of the palatial venue when Mr. Mathers attended the Cowboys vs. Chargers game in December. “We, of course, are great fans and were tickled to death to have that kind of interest,” Jones said of Em coming to the stadium. Jones said we might eventually see a huge rap show at the stadium, which could hold well over 100,000 fans for a concert, and he thinks Em or Jay-Z would be perfect to pack the venue. “Those are the kinds of stars or the kinds of individuals that people are so interested in seeing,” he said. “We’ve got a venue there that can show them and their skills and talent. We could put a crowd in there to watch them.” “I’m here [playing Dallas] in a couple of weeks, actually,” Jay-Z said when asked about Jones’ comments. “I’m not playing the big stadium, but one day.” Meanwhile, Jones said he got the feeling Em was interested in rocking Cowboys Stadium. “I believe he was thinking of how it would sound in there for him to be involved [for a concert],” Jones said of Eminem’s tour of the venue. Cowboys Stadium hosted the 2010 NBA All-Star game this past Sunday, which broke the record for attendance with more than 108,000 fans. “[Dallas Mavericks owner] Mark Cuban initiated the idea as we were building the stadium,” Jones said about how the All-Star game ended up in Dallas. “I dreamed of having a basketball game in there — basketball or soccer. A chance to do the All-Star game was a dream come true. It’s been great working with [NBA commissioner] David Stern. It’s been great working with Mark with what we’re doing. … I’ve been out there spending most of my time watching them construct the setting for the game. The NBA hasn’t spared anything making it special for the fans.” Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From the Underground It’s been quite the wait for DJ Drama and Fabolous’ The Funeral Service: There Is No Competition 2. First, the Gangsta Grillz presentation got pushed back from Christmas because of Fab’s show schedule. Then, Fab decided to hold the tape up a few more weeks after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. While his tape has nothing to do with what happened in Haiti, the Brooklyn native wasn’t going to release a mixtape with the title The Funeral with so many in mourning worldwide. Then Fab decided to put a few more songs on the tape. We spoke to DJ Drama on Monday night, and he said Fab was in ATL with him, in the lab finishing up, and the mixtape could be out within the next week. Drama’s Gangsta Grillz schedule is stacking up quite nicely. He and Cam’ron are making another mixtape, he and Yo Gotti also have a tape that will be going into production soon and, of course, there’s Trap or Die 2. Dram said he hasn’t heard any music from TOD collaborator Young Jeezy but is eagerly anticipating what the Snowman is going to come up with, just like the rest of us. On Sunday, Dram and Chris Brown released the mixtape In My Zone. C. Breezy’s tape is more of an underground street album than a regular tape. There are a lot of new and unreleased songs rather than freestyles. But one freestyle in particular that has people talking is Brown’s take on Trey Songz’s “I Invented Sex.” “A lot of people weren’t expecting the project to be in this direction,” Drama said. “It’s really an album. His fans are happy. Even the doubters had to come in, sh– is crazy. It’s grown. It’s definitely grown music. “To me, good music is good music,” Dram added about Chris’ take on Songz’s hit. “I’ve always been a supporter of quality music. Chris is a grown-ass man. It’s topics that’s grown men speak on. … A lot of the music, if it was to come out in stores, it would have an explicit rating. But homie’s grown up.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
