‘Glee’ Makes Cee Lo’s ‘Forget You’ One To Remember

Show featured Gwyneth Paltrow singing cleaned-up version of hit song. By Aly Semigran Gwyneth Paltrow performs “Forget You” on “Glee” Photo: FOX Out with the old music and in with the new. That was the focus of last night’s episode of “Glee.” And that motto has certainly served the show well this season, as witnessed by the reception for their cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” last week. The a cappella version, which featured hot new “Glee” commodity Darren Criss, shot to the top of the iTunes charts and moved an estimated 55,000 copies on its first day alone. The show once again decided to tap into the well of recent smash hits when they had the cast back up guest star Gwyneth Paltrow , who most recently showed off her singing skills during last week’s live broadcast of the Country Music Awards, for her classroom rendition of Cee Lo’s “F— You!” Of course, given the fact that it’s a hit prime-time series with a predominantly young viewership, “Glee” opted to go with the radio-friendly version, “Forget You.” But there’s nothing forgettable about Cee Lo Green’s career, all the way up until the surprise success of “F— You!” He’s a Grammy-nominated artist and a founding member of the rap group Goodie Mob, as well as the second half of the duo that is Gnarls Barkley (perhaps you’ll recall a little single from 2006 called “Crazy”?). Cee Lo has written songs for the likes of P. Diddy, Ludacris, Common and even penned (as well as produced) the Pussycat Dolls’ massive hit “Don’t Cha.” Leave it to the multi-talented star to be able to transform a profanity-laced track (with the F-word right there in the title, no less) into a top 40 hit. The first single off Cee Lo’s upcoming solo album The Lady Killer was released in the U.S. on August, 19, 2010, but was initially created during a recording session in a Los Angeles studio. The track was a collaborative effort with Bruno Mars and Phil Lawrence, among others. Cee Lo has said in interviews that while the song is mostly fictitious (he claims there was no particular woman in mind), it is somewhat based in reality. The song really made its impact on YouTube . A no-frills video featuring only the tune’s lyrics was released first (fans could now easily sing a long with the catchy chorus, “I see you drivin’ ’round town with the girl I love/ And I’m like, f— you/ I guess the change in my pocket wasn’t enough/ I’m like, ‘F— you!’/ And f— her, too’ “) and, to date, has had more than 7 million views. An official video followed soon after, which proved to be just as inspired and tongue-in-cheek as the song itself. A lovelorn youngster lip-synch’s Cee Lo ‘s decidedly non-kid-friendly words while pining after the girl that’s traded him in for a new model (“I guess he’s an Xbox/ And I’m more Atari”). Even 50 Cent opted to get in on the fun, releasing his own remix of the song. When the song hit a fever pitch, radio stations across the country picked it up, but rather than bleep out “f—,” most went with the alternate version of the track, “Forget You.” While Cee Lo prefers the original version, he understands the need for a more-PC take on the track. The artist told Entertainment Weekly , “[It’s] not as effective. But it’s politically correct.” In addition to becoming an instant fan favorite, the tune was equally appreciated by critics. Billboard called the unconventional mix of doo-wop, hip-hop and pop “too irresistible to be denied,” while the UK’s Guardian dubbed it “one of this year’s most uplifting releases, with a chorus that makes you want to punch the air and imprecate cheerfully at total strangers.” The 36-year-old has since performed the song on shows like “Late Show With David Letterman” and “The Colbert Report” (in which he strategically placed the “F— You!” lyric with “Fox News”). What did Cee Lo think of Mrs. Chris Martin’s take on his song for “Glee”? Cee Lo told MTV News that while he hadn’t yet seen the “Glee” performance, he was “flattered” that the show wanted to use the song and found it “too awesome” that it was going to be sung by none other than Gwyneth Paltrow. Kings Of Leon Turn Madison Square Garden ‘Radioactive’

The boys from Tennessee declared the New York venue their new home court on Tuesday night. By Jenny McCoy Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill performs at Madison Square Garden Tuesday Photo: Theo Wargo/ Getty Images NEW YORK — With red smoke, a clean, metallic set and a crowd as varied as their albums, the Kings of Leon launched into a 22-song set at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night with “Mary,” a song from their new album, Come Around Sundown. The Kings then took a very full (thought not quite sold-out) crowd on a two-song trip back to earlier times with “Crawl” and “Molly’s Chambers” before crooning this summer’s single, “Radioactive,” a song that sounds perfect for in the arena. From there, they continued to weave the best of their raw beginnings, sing-a-long hits from the hugely successful Only by the Night and new tracks from Sundown. The crowd was a mix of 30-something professionals, 20-something drinkers and the occasional flannel, and KOL’s song choices was made to please every variation of fan. While some commuters filtered out before the show’s end, most stayed on until the very end. After recording their album in New York City, the boys from Tennessee declared the Garden their new home court. “The first time we played here, we were the opening band. It feels good not to be the opening band tonight,” frontman Caleb Followill told the crowd. “Now that we’ve spent more time in this beautiful city, it means a lot more to us.” The Followill brothers and cousin took a couple minutes to announce a couple of very special guests: their moms. “Just want to say how wonderful it is to have our moms here tonight — the two prettiest women in the world,” Caleb announced before playing the fittingly titled “Back Down South.” KOL wrapped the show with “Use Somebody,” inspiring the crowd to use their best shower-singing voices and sway like they were at a seventh-grade dance. But the energy was turned up again for the encore — “Be Somebody,” “Sex on Fire” and “Black Thumbnail” — when the band said goodbye with a pyrotechnics show. Shakira Goes ‘Loca’ In New Guerrilla-Style Video

The Colombian star roller-skates, hip-shakes and fountain-dives for crazy clip. By James Montgomery Shakira in the “Loca” music video Photo: Epic For nearly two decades now, either due to her multinational leanings (the Colombian’s music is as indebted to Latin American rhythms as it is to Arabic dance, Euro disco and red-white-and-blue rock) or because she is sort of insane (see last year’s She Wolf album ), Shakira has managed to carve out her own, rather indefinable niche in pop music. On Wednesday (September 29), she premiered the video for “Loca,” the first single off her upcoming Sale el Sol album (due October 19). And while it’s not exactly a unique artistic endeavor — it echoes sentiments already expressed by the likes of Matt & Kim (in their “Lessons Learned” clip) and Erykah Badu (in her firestormy “Window Seat” vid) — it’s still undoubtedly her … mostly because none of her high-gloss pop contemporaries would ever dare attempt something like it. Shot run-and-gun style in Barcelona, “Loca” follows Shakira and her crew — which includes a few cameramen and, somewhat improbably, British rapper Dizzee Rascal — on a madcap adventure that includes roller-skating, public wardrobe changes, motorcycle cruising, an illicit hop in a public fountain (a move that landed her in hot, uh, water with local authorities ) and, of course, plenty of hip shaking. It’s a decidedly guerrilla endeavor that appears to have been done on a budget hovering around zero (aside from a performance scene, the entire thing appears to have been shot on handheld cameras). Drake Brings Out J. Cole, Young Jeezy And Birdman At NYC Show

Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour sells out two nights at Radio City Music Hall. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: Mike Coppola/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Let’s face it: Drake is big enough to be doing arenas like Madison Square Garden by himself. On his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour, he’s selling out theaters in back-to-back nights in major cities such as Miami and Chicago. But, although he’s ascended to the top of the music game way quicker than most MCs and singers, the 23-year-old is into paying dues and taking it slow.

Wildest Larry O’Donnell Tirades: Romney’s Religion Is Demented! So Is Criticizing Islam

Monday night marks the debut of Lawrence O’Donnell’s very own show, called The Last Word, on MSNBC and if his guest spots on various programs on that network and the syndicated McLaughlin Group over the last few years are any indication, he’s bound to give Keith Olbermann a run for his money for over-the-top loony tirades. O’Donnell reared his bigoted side on the December 8, 2007 edition of the McLaughlin Group . He not only went after former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, but also his faith, seen in the following rants he made after the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate delivered a speech defending his “demented, Scientology-like” Mormon faith: Here’s the problem. He dare not discuss his religion. And he fools people like Pat Buchanan who should know better. This was the worst speech, the worst political speech of my lifetime. Because this man stood there and said to you “this is the faith of my fathers.” And you, and none of these commentators who liked this speech realized that the faith of his father is a racist faith. As of 1978 it was an officially racist faith, and for political convenience in 1978 it switched. And it said “Okay, black people can be in this church.” He [Romney] believes, if he believes the faith of his fathers, that black people are black because in heaven they turned away from God, in this demented, Scientology-like notion of what was going on in heaven before the creation of the Earth….I’m saying he’s got to answer, when he was 30 years old and he firmly believed in the faith of his father that black people are inferior, when did he change his mind? Did the religion have to tell him to change his mind? And when he talks about the faith of his father, how about the faith of his great-grandfather, who had five wives?…And his religion is based on the work of a lying, fraudulent, criminal named Joseph Smith who was a racist, who was a, who was  pro-slavery, his religion was completely pro-slavery…He was given an opportunity to distance himself from the evils of his religion, and he didn’t…. Joseph Smith was a slavery champion, the inventor of this ridiculous religion…His religion is full of crazy beliefs. Everyone on this panel thinks his religion is full of crazy beliefs. Everyone of us does. You won’t admit it. Do you think the Garden of Eden was in Missouri?…Look Romney comes from a religion founded by a criminal who was anti-American, pro-slavery and a rapist! And his, and he comes from that lineage and says, “I respect this religion fully.” This is not exactly how O’Donnell talks of Islam — and O’Donnell admitted a few days later that he’s too scared for his physical safety to say anything like that about the birth and theology of Islam. O’DONNELL: Oh, well, I’m afraid of what the…that’s where I’m really afraid. I would like to criticize Islam much more than I do publicly, but I’m afraid for my life if I do. HEWITT: Well, that’s candid. O’DONNELL: Mormons are the nicest people in the world. They’re not going to ever… HEWITT: So you can be bigoted towards Mormons, because they’ll just send you a strudel. O’DONNELL: They’ll never take a shot at me. Those other people, I’m not going to say a word about them. HEWITT: They’ll send you a strudel. The Mormons will bake you a cake and be nice to you. O’DONNELL: I agree. HEWITT: Lawrence O’Donnell, I appreciate your candor.

Ali Lohan Modeling for her Sister’s Clothing Line of the day

Lindsay Lohan is following her family legacy by exploiting family members for personal gain. Here is Ali Lohan in a campaign for her sister’s 6126 clothing line and I guess it’s only natural that the torch gets passed from one haggard at 24 slut, onto the fresher version who will end up equally damaged, and now is as good a time as any, since the older washed up version is doing time…. I know American men love this underage shit, I just see a girl who probably comes with a lot of headaches and little skills in the bedroom to justify those headaches, but then again, I could legally bang her here, so she’s not the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden, she’s just some whore in training who will eventually hit rock bottom thanks to her rich kid problems that aren’t real problems and her insane family…

Lady Gaga, Pink Usher In New Age Of Pop Spectacle

‘We have returned to the age of P.T. Barnum,’ one expert says. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Popular music has always been about putting on a show. From the psychedelic fantasias of 1970s rockers Pink Floyd to Madonna’s many Vegas-like tours, KISS’ relentless pyro attack , the boy-band glitter parades of the early 2000s and the over-the-top plans for Michael Jackson’s never-mounted This is It farewell shows , major artists have always tried to pony up a big show for their fans. And now, thanks to a new generation of visually acute music stars, we could be living in a new age of the great pop spectacle. From Muse’s massive stadium light show to Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball outing and Pink’s Cirque du Soleil-like Funhouse Tour , artists are going above and beyond in an effort to give their fans a never-ending, eye-popping extravaganza. “We were missing a real element of showmanship [in music] for a while, but you see it in Gaga and her elaborate costuming and in artists like Pink,” music-industry veteran Jeff Rabhan, chair of recorded music and an arts professor at NYU’s Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music, said of Gaga’s now-legendary meat dress and string of outrageous getups at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards . He also pointed to the positive reaction for Kanye West’s visually stunning VMA performance as further proof that audiences were thirsting for a return of the pop spectacle. “It’s been lacking, and that’s the reason that people are drawn to it,” he said of the chatter that inevitably follows one of West’s unique set pieces. In fact, the rapper has more in store with his 40-minute film-noir project in support of the “Runaway” single , which is not surprising coming from an artist who has always been very tuned in to the importance of having great visuals to accompany his music. In rock music, bands like U2 have always understood the importance of giving their fans something unique, from their PopMart Tour in the late 1990s to their most recent 360 Tour , which included the largest, most elaborate stage ever built for a live show. More contemporary acts like Britney Spears have also done their part, hitting the road for her Circus extravaganza with a stage full of magicians, tumblers and glitzy costumes. On a smaller scale, “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert has made glitter bombs and gender-bending videos and performances part of his pop calling card, earning him the distinction of outpacing his onetime rival, season-eight winner Kris Allen, in album sales and concert tickets. What sets some of today’s stars apart, according to Robert J. Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University, is the immersive way they live their public lives. “Artists like Gaga and Ke$ha are always in costume,” Thompson said of the outrageous makeup and outfits those pop stars, and other such as Katy Perry, model every time they go out in public. “We have returned to the age of P.T. Barnum, no question about it. But I suppose these things go in cycles, a case you can make if you look at the biggest acts of all time, which were all spectacle-oriented: Madonna, Michael Jackson.” Thompson said outrageous characters have always played a part in popular music, but with the dawn of the video age in 1981, artists had a new medium to explore with flashy videos that added another layer to their radio hits. Then, with the rise of the Internet, the decade-long contraction of the music industry and a renewed emphasis on singles-oriented artists over the past nine years thanks to iTunes, the ability to reach a mass audience just through radio and video began to disappear. “We went into a period where music was being consumed not with a visual spectacular or with the visual of a big album cover, but as an

AUSTRALIA: Exposure to chemical TBT causes female snails to grow penises on heads

FEMALE marine snails living off the Perth coast are growing male sex organs on their heads after exposure to the chemical TBT, according to local researchers. Curtin University researchers have revealed the snails are suffering from imposex, a condition that involves the development of a second sex organ after being exposed to the chemical. Unlike garden snails, which are hermaphrodites, this species of marine snail has distinct sexes. Curtin's Department of Environment and Agriculture Associate Professor Monique Gagnon said studies on the marine snail Thais orbita over the past 10 years showed that although TBT contamination had declined at sites visited by recreational boats, a 100 per cent rate of imposex still existed at sites where commercial vessels were present. “These high levels are believed to be related to the continuous input of TBT into the area over a period of years, resulting in the presence of significant quantities in the sediment on the sea floor,” she said. Associate Professor Gagnon said Fremantle port and the Garden Island naval facility were the main sites where TBT contamination was present in the Perth region. She said studies had shown that imposex could stop the females from procreating, potentially reducing the number of snails in the shoreline environment. The samples of Thais orbita were collected along the Perth coast between March and June 2009. added by: eden49
