Already a winner in the world of fashion, Christian Siriano is now a winner in the even more important world of love. He’s engaged to musician Brad Walsh! The former Project Runway winner made his designs on marriage clear in a Tweet yesterday, telling followers that “@BradWalsh and I exchanged engagement bracelets!” and including with the news a photo of said jewelry items. Walsh then confirmed the engagement himself in a social media message: “We’ve told our moms so now we can tell you. Yesterday we exchanged engagement bracelets,” he wrote. Siriano won Project Runway in 2008 and has enjoyed a successful career as a designer ever since, dressing such beauties as Christina Hendricks and Heidi Klum . He and Walsh, meanwhile, have lived together in Manhattan since 2010, with the latter often creating music for th former’s fashion shows, including Siriano’s 2013 fall/winter line. It has become almost second nature nowadays that the moment a film is the slightest bit successful and has the scant possibility of a sequel that a second or third, or in some cases even a fourth, movie is thought to be a certainty. So it’s hard to imagine that the hugely popular Bridesmaids was a one-off, but that’s exactly as Kristen Wiig wanted it. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar , Wiig made it clear that she has no interest in penning a sequel (with co-writer Annie Mumolo) to her 2011 hit. “It wasn’t a hard decision,” she says. “We knew during the first one that this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.” For now Wiig is undoubtedly focused on her upcoming film, Girl Most Likely , with Darren Criss, that opens on July 19th. The U.S. Supreme Court on Sunday denied a final request from Proposition 8 supporters to halt issuance of same sex marriage licenses in California. Justice Anthony Kennedy rejected the appeal with no additional comment. Dozens of same-sex weddings have taken place in the state since Friday, following the Supreme Court’s decision last week to dismiss Proposition 8 . Prop 8 controversially banned gay marriage in the state in 2008, only to be thrown out by appellate courts on grounds that such a ban is unconstitutional. The SCOTUS, which also struck down DOMA , determined that the Prop 8 petitioners lacked sufficient grounds to appeal the lower courts’ decision. As a formality, the high court said it would not make the Prop 8 judgment final until after a 25-day window in which supporters could request a re-hearing. Which they did, but the SCOTUS was apparently eager to move on from this much-watched case, as Kennedy turned down the appeal almost immediately. California thus becomes the 13th state in the nation with full marriage equality, with new licenses already being issued throughout the Golden State. Teen Mom 2‘s Kailyn Lowry is a big gay rights supporter. A photo shoot involving her son to bolster that cause has baby daddy Jo Rivera irate, however. The shoot by Kate Hedrick features Kail’s husband, Javi Marroquin , and model Wesley Watkins holding Isaac in between them, as if he were their child. “Doesn’t this make you sick?” a Twitter fan asked Rivera, to which he responded, “yes it does.” But not because of gay rights, or so he claims. Called out for being homophobic, Jo replied, “Oh no I’m all for equality. But I don’t see how that photo has anything to do with representing equality.” NoH8, for its part, issued a statement in support of Kailyn Lowry : “Children learn about love and acceptance at an early age,” a rep said, so “standing up for equality is one of the most important things a parent can do.” “Biases can be learned too, but taking the opportunity to show their child what it’s like to stand up for what’s right gives that child the ability to recognize and defy those biases.” Adds the rep for the campaign, “We’re proud to see so many parents using the NOH8 Campaign as a teachable moment in their child’s development.” Asked for her opinion on Rivera’s comment, Hedrick wouldn’t get into it, offering only, “I don’t know Jo. Fourth Grades Pens Essay Supporting Marriage Equality As the controversial debate over marriage equality continues to pick up across the United States, one fourth-grade student is gaining national attention after submitting an essay to his teacher in support of gay marriage. via ABC News What is one fourth grader’s argument for marriage equality? Essentially, “Get over it.” When the fourth grader’s teacher posted a photo of the essay on Reddit, a social news site where registered users can post content, Wednesday, it quickly took off. “One of my fourth grade students chose gay marriage as his topic for a persuasive essay,” the teacher, Reddit user rafa3l2, wrote. “This is the result. More sense than some adults.” The student wrote: “Why gay people should be able to get married is you can’t stop two adult’s from getting married because there grown and it doesn’t matter if it creeps you out just get over it. And you should be happy for them because it’s a big moment in their life. When I went to my grandparents wedding it was the happies moment.” “I am not sharing this because of how perfect the sentences are, but because of how clear his thought process is on this specific issue,” the teacher wrote on Reddit. “It isn’t as simple as pointing out mistakes and spelling errors.” While it’s certainly commendable for parents to encourage their children not to discriminate and treat all people with respect regardless of their sexual orientation, there can also be a downside to bringing children into the debate where they can choose sides. Kate told onlooker Rachel Sawyer that she is due “around mid-July, but apparently babies have their own agenda.” Indeed. As for what they’ll name him/her? “We have a short list for both but it’s very difficult.” “My friends keep texting me boy and girl names.” Accompanying Prince William on a visit to Glasgow, the royal (known in Scotland by the title Countess of Strathearn) charmed her audience of well-wishers. Earlier this week, Jeremy Irons’ gay marriage comments – musing on whether this would lead to incestuous situations in which fathers married their sons in order to avoid estate taxes – received major backlash. But not from Stephen Colbert! The Comedy Central host stood up for Irons, first by defending his view that “living with another animal, whether it be a husband or a dog, is great,” by explaining: “See? He’s cool with whatever. A new rumor suggests that Jay Leno will retire from The Tonight Show next spring. For real this time. Seriously. No backsies for a change. A pair of high level NBC executives say the network is concerned that Jimmy Kimmel’s move to 11:35 p.m. on ABC is sucking up all the younger late-night viewers – and that Jimmy Fallon should therefore be installed as Tonight Show host before it’s too late. “Kimmel has done extremely well,” a network veteran tells The Hollywood Reporter . ” Jay wins overall , but on any given night, it’s neck-and-neck in 18-49. I understand where they might have fear and also feel that they own the solution [in Fallon.]” According to the report, Leno would announce in May that he is stepping down from the coveted spot when his contract is up at the end of the 2013-2014 television season. Fallon would then premiere with a “soft launch” during the summer of 2014 before a formal fall debut. Asked about the possibility, a rep for Leno simply said: “We do not speculate on rumor.”
