Ben Carson Says Gay People Don’t Get Extra Rights Via HufPo reports: Conservative Ben Carson let loose on gay marriage during his Saturday CPAC speech, reinforcing his belief in traditional practices. “As you know, I am not a fan of political correctness,” Carson told onlookers, drawing cheers. “I still believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.” Carson went on to add that the political world is full of “ideologues” and the only people that can stop them are the American people. While he believes gay people are entitled to their rights, Carson drew the line at “extra rights” that alter the institution of marriage. “Of course gay people should have the same rights as everyone else, but they don’t get extra rights,” Carson said. “They don’t get to redefine marriage.” Back in April 2013, Carson stepped down as commencement speaker for Johns Hopkins University’s School of Medicine after making some gay marriage comments that sparked outrage from students and faculty. “It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society, and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality — it doesn’t matter what they are — they don’t get to change the definition,” he said in a Fox News appearance at the time. Ugandan Newspaper Publishes Identities Of “Top 200 Homos” In The Country The Ugandan community has been making national headlines lately as a result of their very public anti-gay rhetoric as a country, which reached its’ peak thus far yesterday when Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni officially signed the “Anti-Homosexuality Act” into law. Now, one day after the signing a Ugandan newspaper has released a list of the top 200 gay people in the country, all but urging resident who see anyone on the list to bring them to “justice.” via Gawker If you were curious about the practical implications of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act, signed yesterday by President Yoweri Museveni, look no further than its Red Pepper newspaper, which has published the identities of what it deems the country’s “200 Top Homos” on its cover. If you thought the law banning gay sex would exist only in the realm of gay sex, you were wrong. This is a war on gay people. Red Pepper’s move is similar to that of a now defunct paper called Rolling Stone (no relation to the U.S. music magazine), which published a list of Uganda’s “Top 100 Homos” in 2010. It was a call to action: “Hang Them” read the issue’s cover. About three months later, Ugandan activist David Kato who was among the paper’s Top 100, was bludgeoned to death. In response, Rolling Stone publisher Giles Muhame said, “This looks like any other crime. I have no regrets about the story. We were just exposing people who were doing wrong.” In the 2012 documentary Call Me Kuchu, which details the struggles of the LGBT community in Uganda, Muhame giggles as he discusses his paper’s detrimental outings (there was a followup a few weeks later, which identified 10 more Ugandan gays). Regardless of your personal beliefs with regard to the LGBT community, no human being deserves to be physically harmed or brutally ridiculed for they way the choose to live their personal lives, which most likely what’s coming next following the release of this “list”. SMH!

This world is really changing … High School Crowns Transgender Student Homecoming King Via NewsOne reports: Blake Brockington recently made history when he became the first transgender teen in the state of North Carolina to be crowned homecoming king, according to WCNC. The 17-year-old senior made headlines earlier this year when he was nominated by his peers at East Meck High School and had to compete against 13 contenders for the covetous title. In order to win the honor, Brockington, who was born a girl but identifies as a male, had to raise the most money for Mothering Across Continents, an international non-profit working to build schools in South Sudan. He managed to raise an impressive $2,335.55 of a total $3,203.22. The monies for the charity he raised came from everywhere statewide but mostly via help from Time Out Youth, a local LGBT youth services agency. Brockington, whose life has not been a breeze, is living with foster parents because his father is reportedly unaccepting of his gender identity. Despite his own personal struggles, Brockington is viewed as an exemplary role model by fellow students, according to student adviser Bill Allen for the Gay-Straight Alliance on campus, “Our young people understand we are all different. We have all races, genders, and religious backgrounds. We have kids representing 30 to 40 languages in this school and people learn to accept each other as they are, and I think this is an example of what is going to be happening in North Carolina,” he contends. The teen, who is honored to have been bestowed with such a title, plans on enrolling at the University of North Carolina come fall. He will also continue playing rugby and mentoring young transgender students. As homecoming king, Brockington, wants to drive home the point that no matter what adversities someone faces, he or she should always cling to their aspirations and never let go, “They can be themselves regardless of what anybody else says. Even though you go through some things and have some negative encounters in your life, anything is possible. You can do anything you set your heart to.”
