‘It all comes as a package, and you have to be ready for it,’ Aussie pop star tells MTV News of people caring about his music and personal life. By Jocelyn Vena Cody Simpson Photo: Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images With his Preview to Paradise EP out, a summer tour with Big Time Rush set to kick off next month and a rumored relationship with “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Kylie Jenner, Cody Simpson ‘s celebrity is definitely on the rise. And the Australian pop star understands that with a major music career comes interest in his personal life — including the prying lenses of the paparazzi following the 15-year-old as he makes his way through the world. When Simpson chatted with MTV News on Tuesday, the same day he dropped the EP, he said he’s taking it all in stride. “I’m getting there,” Simpson said. “For a while, it was always just about my music and establishing myself. I think it was a little different at first when people started taking interest in what I did other than that — the whole celebrity thing, I guess — and it’s something that I had to get used to. But, you know, it all comes as a package, and you have to be ready for it. I’m embracing it, and I love it.” These days, Simpson is focused on his career more than worrying about his road to megastardom. And, one of his main priorities is dropping his full-length album, Paradise, in October. “I just love music and I love to work hard, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last two years since I got my record deal, and I’m more than prepared,” he said. “I’m very motivated and I always stay motivated, and I’m very dedicated to what I do when I set my mind to something. It’s pretty much the music 24/7 for me. I’m ready for this year and 2013.” Have you listened to Cody Simpson’s new EP? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Cody Simpson

With new album Oceania, frontman takes aim at the ‘pomposity’ of the music industry. By James Montgomery Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan Photo: Jim Dyson/ Getty Images The Smashing Pumpkins will return next Tuesday with Oceania, their first proper album in nearly five years, but Pumpkins mastermind Billy Corgan is already making his presence known with a series of eye-opening interviews — including one where he claims to have “killed” the band’s backward-looking fans and a new chat in which he takes shots at the music industry and one of its most sacred cows: Radiohead . In an interview with Antiquiet , Corgan let it be known that he’s grown tired of a lot of things, chief among them an industry-wide “pomposity,” which values the contributions of newer artists over those that plied their trade in past decades, and then he provides an example of said pomposity to back up his point: “I can’t think of any people outside of ‘Weird’ Al Yankovic who have both embraced and pissed on rock more than I have. Obviously, there’s a level of reverence, but there’s also a level of intelligence to even know what to piss on,” he said. ” ‘Cause I’m not pissing on Rainbow. I’m not pissing on Deep Purple. But I’ll piss on f—in’ Radiohead, because of … this value system that says [Radiohead’s] Jonny Greenwood is more valuable than [Deep Purple’s] Ritchie Blackmore. Not in the world I grew up in, buddy. Not in the world I grew up in. “So I find myself defending things,” Corgan continued. “Is Ritchie Blackmore a better guitar player than me and Jonny Greenwood? Yes. Have we all made contributions? Yes. I’m not attacking that. I’m attacking the pomposity that says ‘this’ is more valuable than ‘that.’ I’m sick of that. I’m so f—ing sick of it, and nobody seems to tire of it.” Also on the list of things he’s f—ing sick of: music journalists who have repeatedly tried to typecast him throughout his career. And, not surprisingly, on Oceania, Corgan said he’s ignoring all of that and just going for broke — armchair psychologists be damned. “Musically, I’ve done riskier things. I knew what I was doing. I was conscious. … But it’s really hard to produce great work if you don’t open up that part of your heart that just doesn’t want to be opened,” he said. “It requires a level of honesty and vulnerability that’s just really uncomfortable, certainly at 45. Because I’m just tired of hearing it. I’m tired of hearing who I am. … From ’89 on I’ve had people tell me who I am. And they pick my personality as if it’s a one-or-two-dimensional thing, and I’m more like a tetrahedron.” What do you think of Corgan’s opinions on music? Let us know in the comments! Arquette and Cox have been separated for nearly two years. By Kara Warner Courteney Cox and David Arquette Photo: John Shearer/ Getty Images After nearly two years of separation, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are headed toward divorce. TMZ reports that Arquette officially filed divorce papers last week and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. According to the documents obtained by the website, Arquette is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their daughter Coco. He did not ask for spousal or child support and is apparently representing himself, as he did not list a lawyer. Also, it appears that Arquette signed the divorce documents on March 23 and only just decided to file them. Aside from his brief bit of oversharing about their relationship on Howard Stern’s radio show , Arquette and Cox have kept a relatively low profile since the news broke about their separation back in the fall of 2010. The former “Friends” star was quick to defend the behavior of her husband of 11 years during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last March. “If you didn’t hear the Howard Stern interviews and you just read quotes, I’m sure it seemed out of context, crazy,” she said. “I’m not saying there wasn’t some crazy behavior, but if you know who David is, you know what his intentions are, how honest he is, and how big his heart is. You can’t really get mad at David because he’s not a malicious person. He was dealing with things the best way he could. He’s not out to harm. But I’m his biggest protector. I can’t help it.” Cox and Arquette met on the set of 1995’s horror blockbuster “Scream” and recently reprised their roles in “Scream 4,” in which their married characters were also dealing with relationship problems. ‘I now quite like having short hair,’ actress says of super-shorn pixie look. By Kara Warner Anne Hathaway Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Sometimes just being a beautiful actress in Hollywood isn’t enough; what you need to do in order to really turn heads in this business is take a razor to your tousled tresses. Case in point, Charlize Theron’s radically different new ‘do for her upcoming role in “Mad Max: Fury Road” and Anne Hathaway’s super-shorn pixie look for her turn in the star-studded film adaptation of New York magazine’s Vulture blog recently caught up with Hathaway, who revealed that she is very much enjoying the close-cropped hairdo. “I did it for a film, so it really wasn’t about me and my security,” she said. “I’m just so pleased with how I look, so I now quite like having short hair.” The short hair is a requisite of sorts for Hathaway’s role in the film, in which she plays Fantine, an ill-fated prostitute who chops off her hair to buy food for her child, Cosette. The “Dark Knight Rises” actress also spoke about the pressure of having to sing one of the play’s most iconic numbers, “I Dreamed a Dream,” live on set during filming. “Well, that’s actually the thing we talked about when I first came in to film,” Hathaway said. “I apparently looked like I was ready to face the guillotines. They just kept telling me and the cast to ignore the iconic nature of ‘Les Miz’ and of the song.” Hathaway went on to say that she had to attempt to sing it as if it had never been sung or heard before, despite the fact that she basically grew up hearing the song. “My mom was in the show when I was a kid. She actually covered Fantine and went on the national tour, so it was a really big part of my childhood.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Les Miserables.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘My intention has always been to get this situation rectified,’ former Fugee says in a statement regarding her current tax woes. By Rob Markman Lauryn Hill Photo: Ilya S. Savenok/ Getty Images There’s a reason Lauryn Hill failed to file her taxes , whether it is a legally sound reason will be up to the courts to decide. The former Fugee released a statement on her tumblr on Friday, just a day after she was charged by the government. “For the past several years, I have remained what others would consider underground,” she wrote. “I did this in order to build a community of people, like-minded in their desire for freedom and the right to pursue their goals and lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda.” Hill said that she was taken advantage of as an artist, and she withdrew from the mainstream in order to wean herself and her family from a lifestyle “that required distortion and compromise as a means for maintaining it.” Hill rid herself of people she says she couldn’t trust and sought to be freed from the confines that she’s seen in the commercialization of music and art. The IRS estimates that the singer has earned more than $1.6 million in income cumulatively in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and failed to file in each of those years. If found guilty, she could face up to three years in prison and a $300,000 fine. Hill contends that her actions were a means of survival for her and her family. “Obviously, the danger I faced was not accepted as reasonable grounds for deferring my tax payments, as authorities, who despite being told all of this, still chose to pursue action against me, as opposed to finding an alternative solution,” she said in the statement. “My intention has always been to get this situation rectified. When I was working consistently without being affected by the interferences mentioned above, I filed and paid my taxes,” she continued. “This only stopped when it was necessary to withdraw from society, in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of myself and my family.” Hill is scheduled to appear in court on June 29. Madge is rumored to be filming the clip this weekend, ahead of her MDNA Tour date there next week. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Getty Images Madonna went cheerleader chic in her “Give Me All Your Luvin’ ” video. Then she recalled her “Erotica” days for the “Girl Gone Wild” video. Now, it seems she might be living La Dolce Vita in her “Turn Up the Radio” clip. Rumor has it that the singer will film the video on Sunday in Rome, under the direction of her “Give It 2 Me” music video director, Tom Munro. Oh No They Didn’t further reports that the shoot may take place at the Rome Forum. “Turn Up the Radio” was announced as her next MDNA single back in April. A rep for the singer had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Currently she’s in between shows on her MDNA Tour , having just performed in Istanbul on Thursday and gearing up to play in Rome at the Olympic Stadium on June 12. The tour kicked off on May 31 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and will continue to travel all around Europe before heading Stateside in August for several months. Then she’ll take the tour to South America in November for a handful of dates. The trek ends in December. Although no details have been confirmed about the video, “Turn Up the Radio” producer Martin Solveig told us recently there are “no limits” to what the pair can do. “We were working with no limits. I think the only thing that she said when we started was, ‘I just want people to be able to dance to my music and connect easily with my music,’ and also probably to take some risks at some point,” Solveig said. “Other than this, it was open to any kind of experimentation.” Related Artists Madonna Martin Solveig

‘I want to send it to them once it’s perfect,’ Wahlberg tells MTV News about long-in-the-works project. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Justin Bieber Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Justin Bieber might be ready to start “hooping” for his long-in-the-works basketball film with Mark Wahlberg , but the movie star explains that no one will get on set until the script is just right. “The Bieber movie? I saw 115 pages,” Wahlberg explained to MTV News last weekend. “Just waiting — I want to send it to them once it’s perfect.” It seems that Bieber’s team is also waiting for the script to be finalized. “I sent [Bieber’s manager] Scooter [Braun] a text … The last time I talked to him, I said, ‘Hey, I need Justin to do me a favor.’ He goes, ‘Not without the script.’ So, it’s a process. Cutting those albums and doing those videos is easy, building a movie career is a difficult thing.” Wahlberg previously told us the film would be in the vein of the Martin Scorsese-directed “The Color of Money,” starring Tom Cruise and Paul Newman, with Bieber playing the rookie to Wahlberg’s mentor character. And pool, in this case, has been replaced with basketball. Little else is known about the plot. “I’m still working on this movie with Mark Wahlberg,” Bieber told us in May. “I don’t know what the deal is. Turns out they’re rewriting the script or something, trying to make it fit better and stuff. “It’s really cool,” he added. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to do that as well soon. So, I’ll be hooping, I got to get back in the gym. I haven’t played basketball in a while. I did a little charity basketball game at Shaq’s house for Pencils of Promise. We did a little charity basketball game, and I won.” Before Bieber begins his acting career, he has lots of music-related business to handle. He will release his highly anticipated new album, Believe , on June 19 and will embark on a sold-out tour this fall . Related Artists Justin Bieber
