Cee Lo’s ‘Anyway’ Is ‘A Little Dark,’ Wallpaper. Says

Party starter worked with Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo on sultry single. By Gil Kaufman Cee Lo Green Photo: Jay West/ Getty Images You’ve probably heard Wallpaper.’s music on “Jersey Shore,” and maybe you saw him tagged as one of Buzzworthy’s 11 artists to watch in 2012 . The brainchild of rapper/songwriter/remixer Ricky Reed began as an attempt to bring some lighthearted fun to dance music with songs like “F—ing Best Song Everrr” and “#STUPiDFACEDD.” But after gaining attention with a sax-blasting remix of Das Racist’s “Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell,” remixes of songs by Passion Pit and Local Natives, and an album and EP of party-starting originals, he’s hooked up with two music legends for a deceptively tossed-off-sounding song called “Anyway.” “The hook wasn’t right, you know, and every song needs a great hook, so who better than [Weezer singer/songwriter] Rivers Cuomo to come in and finish it up for us?” Reed said of his collabo with the geek-rock icon on Cee Lo Green ‘s recently released sultry single. The tune — co-produced and co-written by Wallpaper. — appeared on the platinum edition of Green’s Lady Killer album, released last month. Getting to share a writing credit with Cuomo was yet another career highlight for Oakland, California’s Reed, who signed with major label Epic Records late last year after a meeting with Epic CEO and “X Factor” judge L.A. Reid. “It’s a little dark,” he said of the Green song, in which the singer recounts his many flaws. “In the co-write, I did a lot of the verse lyric, then Rivers came in with this really sentimental hook, which is kind of what the song needed. … It needed to balance out. If there’s anybody to be sentimental, it’s Rivers, and if there’s anyone to be f—ed up, it’s me.” What do you think of the collaboration? Let us know in the comments! Lil Wayne To Release Prison Memoir In November

‘Gone Till November’ will come out two years after Weezy’s release from Rikers Island. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne has a story to tell. Well, Lil Wayne probably has a bunch of stories to tell, but this fall the multiplatinum rap superstar will release “Gone Till November,” his memoir based on the diaries he kept while he was locked up for eight months on Rikers Island in New York. The book, which will come out in November, two years after Weezy’s release from prison, is being described as an internal monologue, according to the Associated Press . It will be released through Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group. Weezy was freed from Rikers Island on November 4, 2010, after he served eight months of a year-long sentence for an attempted gun possession charge. Police had arrested the rapper in 2007 following his headlining performance at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Wayne eventually pleaded guilty to the charge and turned himself in to authorities in March of 2010. MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway caught up with Wayne in Miami at a welcome-home party just days after his prison release. When asked how his transition from prison was going, Weezy simply responded with a grin. “I forgot about yesterday,” he said after thanking his fans and family for their support. He hasn’t completely forgotten, however, now that Wayne, who has since toured the world and released his double-platinum Tha Carter IV, plans to reminisce a little. ‘Sweet Valley High’ To Be A Musical, Diablo Cody Confirms

‘It’s going to blow people’s minds,’ screenwriter tells MTV News about the in-the-works adaptation. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Diablo Cody Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Diablo Cody explored the life of one particular “Young Adult” author in her screenplay for the Charlize Theron film. Next up, she herself is taking on the challenge of adapting a beloved young-adult franchise, “Sweet Valley High,” for the big screen. And while she’s knee-deep in work for the project, when MTV News caught up with the screenwriter at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on Thursday night in Los Angeles, she revealed one very juicy detail about the adaptation. “Oh my gosh! OK, so I am so excited about ‘Sweet Valley High.’ There’s original songs being written for it right now, which is the most exciting development. They’re amazing. They’re being written by these Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning songwriters from Broadway who are the best,” she gushed, confirming that the film will be a musical version of the novels. “Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, who wrote [the Broadway show] ‘Next to Normal’; they’re amazing and I’m sorry, I could go on and on. But I’m very excited about ‘Sweet Valley High.’ It’s going to blow people’s minds. I haven’t really had the chance to talk about this yet, so it’s exciting.” The Francine Pascal novels (which debuted in 1983) follow the lives of twin teenagers, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, who live in Sweet Valley, California. The series is full of puppy love, teen angst and the kind of drama and comedy that keeps people tuning into the CW and ABC Family week after week. If you’ve never read the books before, Cody assures you that you can still love the movie. “It [has] a lot of familiar ’80s awesomeness for fans of the series, and if you’ve never heard of ‘Sweet Valley High’ you will want to,” she said, noting that casting plans are still to be determined. “Obviously I will be playing the twins. Old-fashioned ’60s-style split screen,” she joked. Will Adele Perform At The Grammy Awards?

Singer is rumored to be opening the show, where she’s up for six awards. By Jocelyn Vena Adele Photo: Getty Images Adele has been lying low since a vocal surgery in November , but now it seems she could be poised to hit up the Grammy Awards come February. Sources tell Radaronline.com that the six-time nominee is in talks to perform at the show, which takes place next month. “Adele will be at the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 12 at the Staples Center,” a source says. “She’s thrilled to be nominated, but it’s been a hard time for her because of the surgery. She has begun talking more, with her doctor’s permission. Adele’s best friend in recent weeks has been warm compresses around her neck to help the healing process of her vocal chords.” Adele, who keeps topping the charts nearly a year after dropping her album 21 , is just waiting it out until she knows for sure that she can be at her best for the broadcast. “Producers of the Grammys would love to have Adele perform and open the show, but she isn’t able to give them an answer yet,” the source added. “She won’t be able to give them an answer until the beginning of February, and they completely understand.” The singer took home two Grammys in 2009. Shortly after her surgery last year, she released a statement to the fans: “Sorry I haven’t written for a while. Thank you for all your positive thoughts and get well wishes,” Adele wrote . “I’m doing really well, on the mend, super happy, relaxed and very positive with it all. The operation was a success, and I’m just chilling out now until I get the all clear from my doctors.” Adele is still riding high off the release of 21 , spawning several inescapable singles including the ubiquitous “Rolling in the Deep,” which topped MTV’s list as Song of the Year for 2011 . Adele’s Grammy appearance could be timed with a potential March cover of Vogue . Related Videos Adele’s ‘Magical’ Road To Success Related Artists Adele

Adele Helps Push Music Biz To First Sales Jump Since 2004

Music sales posted a 3 percent sales increase last year, thanks in no small part to 21 . By James Montgomery Adele Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ FilmMagic Call it the Adele Effect: Music sales actually rose in 2011, the first time the industry has posted a gain in seven years. According to Nielsen SoundScan, overall sales were up a modest 3 percent last year, as consumers purchased some 458 million albums — digital downloads of albums rose 20 percent, to 103 million, while sales of compact discs sank nearly 6 percent, to 225 million — and downloaded more than 1.2 billion singles, a 9 percent increase from the previous year. It’s all a welcome change of pace for the music industry, which in recent years has been battered by double-digit declines in sales. And, while there are certainly mitigating factors that contributed to the sales gains — the RIAA’s ongoing antipiracy efforts, an increase of consumers with mobile devices, the rise of services like Spotify and Google Music — it certainly didn’t hurt that Adele released one of the biggest-selling albums in recent memory last year, not to mention a pair of much-downloaded singles. Her 21 album sold more than 5.8 million copies in 2011 — the most of any album since Usher’s Confessions in 2004 (which, incidentally, marks the last year the industry saw increases in total sales) — and her massive “Rolling in the Deep” has also sold some 5.8 million copies. She sold nearly 900,000 copies of her debut album, 19, last year, too. Big sellers like Lady Gaga ‘s Born This Way and Michael Bubl

Chris Brown Won’t Be Doing Interviews In 2012

‘If people are going to judge anything, judge him for his talent,’ manager tells Billboard of crafting strategy for the pop&B star. By Rebecca Thomas Chris Brown Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images There’ll be no chair-throwing in 2012. After a year in which Chris Brown ‘s applause-worthy feats — Billboard 200 chart-topper F.A.M.E. and a successful tour of the same name — at times threatened to be overshadowed by his penchant for (social) media gaffes, the singer’s team has announced they’re implementing a ban on interviews. Asked whether there was a specific strategy planned for Brown in the New Year, the 22-year-old’s manager, Tina Davis, told Billboard magazine it was to “not have him do interviews but to concentrate on performing and recording,” adding that the idea had been germinating for some time. Last May, Breezy made headlines after a “Good Morning America” interview , when he vented frustration over a line of questioning that zeroed in on ex Rihanna by hurling a chair through a backstage window afterward. The wave of bad press that ensued hit just as the Virginia-born crooner was making the rounds to promote his fourth studio effort, F.A.M.E. Now, as he preps the follow-up to that disc, Fortune, Davis seems determined to steer clear of any possible speed bumps. “We’re not trying to be rude, selfish or disrespectful to anyone in any way,” she told the mag. “If people are going to judge anything, judge him for his talent. He signed up to sing and entertain. Not to talk about his personal life.” Brown may be taking a cue from another superstar, Kanye West, whose self-imposed press-lockout has yielded some impressively expansive Twitter sprees . But it remains to be seen whether the singer will take to the social-networking site as an outlet in similar fashion. On New Year’s Eve, the “Look at Me Now” singer sent a heartfelt message to his fan faithful: “I LOVE Team Breezy unconditionally! Goodbye 2011. Let 2012 bring as much peace positivity and happiness as possible!” he wrote in a hopeful, if wistful, post. He hasn’t tweeted since. Hugh Jackman To Take Lead Role In ‘Houdini’ Musical

‘I’ve been preparing for this role my whole life,’ actor says. By Jocelyn Vena Hugh Jackman Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Hugh Jackman is ready to hit the Great White Way once again. The actor has been confirmed to take the stage as the lead in “Houdini” Deadline reports. “I have been deeply fascinated by the life of Harry Houdini since I was young, and in many ways I’ve been preparing for this role my whole life,” Jackman said in a statement. “I am thrilled to be collaborating with this collection of artists who are all at the top of their game.” The play, written by “The Social Network” screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, will open during the 2013/2014 season. Sorkin will work with composer Stephen Schwartz and director Jack O’Brien. “Rather than being a biography, ‘Houdini,’ told in a contemporary tone, tells the story of an epic battle that took place between the world’s greatest illusionist and a trio of women, known as ‘Spiritualists,’ who convinced millions of people, including the editors of Scientific American and the New York Times , that they could communicate with the dead,” Sorkin said. “The chance to collaborate with Stephen Schwartz, Jack O’Brien and Hugh Jackman on a new Broadway musical is a huge gift.” Before he takes the stage, Jackman has a number of other projects on his plate, including the big-screen adaptation of “Les Miserables,” the next installment of “Wolverine” and “Unbound Captives” with Robert Pattinson . Most recently, Jackman starred in the one-man show, “Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway” and has also starred in “The Boy From Oz” and “A Steady Rain.” Will Hugh Jackman make magic in the role of Harry Houdini?
